You just did all you need to do. When I get it complete (Which should be
soon) I'll just e-mail you a copy. I'm still collecting info, but hope
to start typing it up soon (by the end of the week)

Subject: Deb Lockwood's SS (long)
Dear SS-
WOW!!! My February package is impressive!!! Not only wonderful gifts but
two beautiful collaged cards and a letter from you. I feel so special to
have you as my SS :) THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
The package must have arrived on Saturday. We had been out all day and
then decide to take a last minute trip to visit my parents. I didn't
notice the package had been left by the door. It had fallen behind the
bottled water by the door. It was a great surprise to find it there today
when we returned home.
The cards you collaged are so cool. I've just started to explore collage.
I just had finished my submissions for a collaged box swap that Rachael
Innes is hosting. Last summer I took a collage class from Sandra McCaul.
Her work was featured on the cover of the first issue of Sommerset...but I
digress...
Anyway, back to your wonderful package...I loved the use of the cord to
make a heart that frames the image of the elephant and all the great
texture of the different papers along with the postage stamp and the
sealing wax. The other collage with the asian images is also beautifully
done. I really like the way you used a window to frame the image of the
woman. I'll be stealing this idea ;)
Your thoughtfulness just blows me away! I really appreciate the time
you invested into the making of this package. Your generosity continues
to show with this collection of the many bits and pieces that you included
in this package for me to use in collage. Every item included is
beautiful as well as functional; the paper (both handmade and cardstock),
ribbons, cloth, envelopes, used postage stamps (foreign and domestic),
silver and gold foil heart lace doilies, the map, the zip-lock bag filled
with all sorts of goodies including the beads, mini jewels, and the
coolest assortment of mini-vegetables, and the terrific stamps - the two
Petit Fours from Hero Arts, Posh pedestal and the Rhinoceros from Rubber
Stampede. I forgot to mention the feathers!
These items will be added to my stash of supplies but will remain very
special because I'll always be reminded of you when I survey the ever
growing inventory. It's a good thing I have a stamp/sewing room to keep
all my "stuff"! You must be psychic or something because you seem to know
just how to add to my collections of "stuff". How can you possibly know
my taste so well?
This package is wonderful but I have to add that I also really enjoyed
your letter. It makes this whole SS thing much more personal. During the
last round of the SS swap I never received any correspondence form my SS
when I got the packages. Your letter added such a special touch to the
package. I loved the poem you wrote and included in last month's package
too!
In answer to your question about me, I teach theatre at USC. The courses
I teach are stage lighting (which focuses on technology and how we use
various tools in theatre lighting) and lighting design (which is the
artistic application of those tools and concepts). I also work as a
free-lance lighting designer and work in small theatres in the Los Angeles
areas as well as other colleges. Right now I'm working at Pomona College
on a production of Ibsen's Ghosts that opens in a Feb. 20th. I'm also
working on two other projects the are scheduled for March as well as doing
M Butterfly for Cal poly Pomona's theatre department. As you can imagine,
this keeps me pretty busy but I try to spend most of my time and energy
with my husband Edwin and two kids, Dana (7 yrs.) and Adam (3 1/2 yrs).
This semester I only teach on Thursdays (12 to 3) and attend various
planning meetings while the kids are in school. It works out pretty well
because I can pick them up from school and then my husband is with them
when I have to attend rehearsals in the evenings.
My stamping time is somewhat limited so I try to make the most of it. I
enjoy participating in swaps and have a few friends that are stampers. I
try to go to the local conventions and take classes on new techniques. I
really don't know how to classify my stamping style. I'm definitely not
into cute. Like yourself, I do scenes. I like putting together lots of
different images. I'm trying to do collage so your package is very much
appreciated. I'm also trying to do more layering in my stamped work.
I've also gotten interested in bookmaking.
It's gotten pretty late and my fingers are refusing to type correctly.
Please forgive any grammatical errors. When I'm tried my grammar and
spelling skills (what little I have) go away. I just wanted to make sure
I got this post off to you tonight because I've got a few busy days ahead
of me this week. Your thoughtfulness and generous spirit have made a big
impression on me. I am blessed to have been matched up with you. I'm
looking forward to finding out who you are. I already can tell that you
are unique person and I look forward to "meeting" you. Thank you so much
for the time and effort you put into this package. This professor gives
you an A plus!!!
Deb Lockwood

Subject: RS: A public post to the Judge of swap cards
To the person who sent this message:
> I feel if you can't MAKE a real effort on making your cards, please don't
do

> All the other cards I rec'd have thought, effort and work to them.
I don't know if there is more to this post or if I'm reading these words out
of context, but if what is stated above is what the gist of the entire post
was, my following post stands as written. If on the other hand I have
grossly misjudged what was said, I know I'll be informed of it and an apology
will be forthcoming. That said, my comments:
If you have to be so crass as to send this post out, whether it was intended
for one person or for everyone's eyes, I don't think the nonjudgemental give
and take of this group of people is for you.
How dare you assume you know what kind of an effort it took someone to make a
card. Was the stamping crooked? Maybe someone's arthritis was flaring up
and she did it in pain. Were the images smudged? Maybe someone has a lot of
heartache, but just being able to create something may have taken her mind of
her troubles. Was the coloring a little off? Maybe it looks "amateurish" to
you but maybe this is someone just starting out with a lot of enthusiasm who
still has much to discover and learn.
Who are you to tell any one of these or any other person they shouldn't join
a swap just because their work isn't up to *your* lofty standard?
How dare you make the beginner, or selfconscious or shy people who chanced to
read your incredibly insensitive post question their own talent and creative
worth? And worry about how their work will be recieved. And shy away from
joining a swap and learning?
*Every* piece of art is worthwhile and valuable. And some pieces, if we only
knew what went into the making of them, would be even more so.
I think that if the chance of your getting a card in a swap that isn't up to
your ideals so troubles you, *you* should rethink joining swaps.
And I also think that you should rethink the things you say before you say
them. And be ashamed of the post you sent.

Subject: RS: Stamping On Wood
Has anyone stamped on wood before? I'm thinking of trying it, do I need to use
any special ink or can I use clear embossing ink and heat it?
I saw a video last night <sorry, can't recommend it-zzzzzzzzzzzz> and it showed
stamping on paper mache round boxes and stamping directly on wood, then
coloring in. I've seen all those little wood do-it-yourself kits at Michael's
and might give one a try. Any suggestions or hints before I take this plunge
into yet another project?
Thanks in advance,
Kandee...
