Subject: RS: Aussie Xmas Swap arrives
Wow, wow, wow.......I just love these local swaps. So much talent, so much
fun. I think I get as much fun out of seeing who I got cards from as I do
looking at the cards.
I finally got to see a card made by Helen Jenkins! Heard so much about you
Helen, chatted to you on the e-mail but never seen any of your art. Newbie
indeed! This is a lovely card made of sandy coloured card stock with a red
insert. A silouhette (sp?) Christmas tree has been used across the bottom
of the card and each little Christmas tree is decorated with squiggly rows
of glitter glue. Popping up from the top of the card is a really cute
little dog, wearing a Christmas hat. He looks as if he's sitting in a
chimney or a piece of piping (he's from the Creative Stamp Collection).
Inside the card (stamped and embossed in black) reads "Christmas Cheer" On
the back of the card is a great stamp "Art by Helen - My Other Card is in
the Louvre" I love this stamp!
From Penny Maine, a white card, edged in gold and with a window cut in the
middle also edged in gold. Through the window, in turquoise ink she has
stamped a dove, carrying a gold ribbon. Very simple card, very effective
Nerolie made a great card. She used a "Merry Christmoose" stamp from Far
North Images. The moose is stamped on creamy cardstock, cut out with deckle
edged scissors, layered over green and then layered on a creamy coloured
card. The moose is done paper tole style but Nerolie has very cleverly used
what looks like liquid applique on the white trim of his santa outfit.
Great card!
From Julie Russell, an alabaster card, layered with burgundy paper layered
with white paper stamped and embossed in gold with the PSX large "Noel"
stamp. Coloured with purple and green markers. The colours blend together
beautifully.
No name - a green card overlaid with red and then again with green
cardstock. The top layer of green is stamped and embossed in gold with a
large holly frame stamp. Inside the frame reads "Wishing You a Merry
Christmas" The reds and greens used in the card are rich and dark - very
Christmassy, very inspiring!
From Helen Franklin a card which shows the true meaning of "less is more"
This card is eye-catching but very simple. White card with a santa (Stamps
Happen) stamped and embossed in gold, coloured in red and black. Above him
(in gold) "Merry Christmas" Inside also embossed in gold it reads "Wishing
You a Wonderful Christmas" I can't really do this card justice but it looks
great!
From Nikki (our wonderful hostess) a green card with a white insert.
Layered with silver paper and then vellum. Stamped and embossed on the
vellum in white is a Hero Arts bold Christmas Tree (Nikki this is a stamp I
have admired on one of your invoices before!) The card is topped off with a
bow of silver organza. This is a very elegant card.
Many thanks to Nikki for hosting - great swap!

Subject: RS: Re: use for stencils
This is being shown alot on T.V. but not for cards . Since I have wrist &
thumb pain I have a huge collection of stencils , that never get used.
So I thought why not try using those texture pastes that are in art &
craft stores near the paints. It's fantastic & adds a new demension for
cards & stencils.
Put stencil on the cardstock , pick up some texture paste with a
palette knife , spread evenly over stencil area being careful to keep
paste in the stencil area, carefully lift up the stencil. Now while it's
wet shake on glitter, beads, let dry & then I apply a clear glaze over
that ( cause the paste is not really a glue) .Or you can let it dry &
paint over it (apply the stencil back over it as a mask) apply pigment
ink or embossing ink & then embossing powder & emboss.
You can also add pearl ex, interference or regular paints to the
paste before spreading over the stencil & let that dry . I think it opens
up a great new use for stencils on cards. Sandy Lane

Hi Kath,
I haven't used the embossing edger, but the marker will give you
a nice edge. Slightly wavy of course, unless you can draw a much
straighter line than I can. But then, that wouldn't be too hard!
Not sure how large you want the edge, but have you thought about
miracle tape? it's great for edging. I know it comes in 1/4 inch widths
because I have some, but it might come even smaller.

Just like the science teacher I had that would glare around the room and

From: Terrie Price <mkterrie@conterra.com>
Subject: RS: TAN: The Invention of Sex (clean)
The Invention of Sex...
Sex was invented by Thomas Alva Edison on July 16, 1876.
At the time, Edison had been working to develop "entertainment devices"
for the masses-and during the previous months he had invented the
whoopee-cushion, the hand-buzzer, Play-Doh, fake-nose eyeglasses, the
first cordless vibrator (a massive steam-powered unit that covered six
and a half square city blocks and required 235 men to operate), and the
one device he considered to be his greatest gift to mankind at the time:
the ball-point pen that turned over to reveal a naked woman.
Upon being introduced to sex, the country was thrown into a turmoil-and
in order to maintain order, the government seized all of Tom's patents
and drawings, and locked them away in the federal archives until the
year 2186. (The only exception to this were his plans for the
steam-powered vibrator, which were released in 1964 and used as the
basic design for the nuclear submarine USS Trident.)
Devastated at the havoc he'd created, Edison redoubled his efforts to
provide entertainment for the masses and quickly invented movies, the
mimeograph, and the phonograph. In fact, his greatest invention of all,
the light bulb, was created as a means of deterring sex.
Because as Tom himself put it, "Who in God's name would ever want to do
it with the lights on?"

Subject: RS: Newbie Nisa's Question of the Day: Stamping on Wood?
Can anyone give me basic pointers on stamping on wood? Well, something a
little more detailed than "Make sure you stamp on wood taken from a tree
and still not attached to it." Like, let's say I have a wooden box and I
want to stamp on it - what kind of ink do I use, how can I protect what I
stamp, what embellishments that I can use on paper can I use on wood, etc.
blah blah blah.
I'll appreciate any and all info!

I love gadgets, so it's hard to pick just one. I have the Fiskars desktop
rotary paper trimmer and hand -held rotary trimmer, but just recently
discovered the mini personal paper trimmer and find that for many projects
it's more useful and exact than the others.
Also, I love my Xacto with the X200 with the rubberized barrel covering. I
have a set of Xactos witht he metal covering and I always had difficulty
using them. One day I took a class and the instructor had the covered
barrels, and suddenly I could cut like everyone else! Anyone who is not
satisfied with their results with the original Xactos, try this type.

In case anyone doesn't know how Dale counts, I think it goes something
like this:
Dale doesn't count,
"One, two, three."
His count is great,
For you and me.
More like,
"One, five, seven and eight."
The way he counts is surely great!
And with these specials you will find,
Cardstocks to blow your mind.
So pick some up and you will see,
How great Dale is to you and me!
This was an unsolicited testimonial (obviously). I have no connection to
these great folks.
