Subject: RS: TAN: Postal Question
Hi: On September 10 I sent some swap cards to Deni Johnson. She didn't
get them, so upon checking and e-mailing back and forth, we discovered
her zip code on the snail list is wrong.
Does anyone know what happens to mail that has the wrong zip code on
it? Will it eventually be returned to me, or will it sit in a pile
somewhere to be manually sorted?
Just wondering.

From: Shauna <poong@earthlink.net>
Subject: RS: Winter Solstice Swap
Almost every culture on the planet has evolved some type of celebration
for the Winter Solstice. The Winter Solstice marks the center of the
dark half of the year -- the longest night of the year. Here we
celebrate the birth of the sun. After the solstice, the days begin to
grow once more until at the Spring Equinox they are equal.
In some cultures, people stayed up all night singing and telling stories
in the darkest night. In other cultures, yule logs are lit to re-kindle
the light. In some, a party is given to entice the sun to return. Gift
giving is a part of the celebrations of many cultures. In fact, early
Christians moved the celebration of the birth of Jesus to December so
they would not be left out.
Come celebrate the return of the sun . . . the dark of the year . . .
the blessings of friendship . . . the Holy King with
some stamping!

Hi everyone,
I have one catalog plus supplements to trade. I am interested in the
following catalogs: Darcies, DeNami, Stamps Happen, Love You to Bits,
Judi-Kins..........or some cutesy/country mounted stamps with animals.
Also, are there any vendors out there for Stamp of Excellence that I can
order from for discounts?
I will be out of town until Saturday, so don't fret if I don't respond right
away.
All offers will be seriously considered.
Thanks! Eva

From: "Michele E. Swarts-Smith" <mess@home.com>
Subject: RS: Fall Swap Received (long)
Hi All,
I received the Fall Swap cards this week...some really beautiful cards.
I would really like to thank our hostess.....who ever you are. This is
really embarressing...but, I can't find the envelope the cards came in, I
lost the original posting (re-formatted hard drive recently)...hold on...I
need to see if my head is still attached.
OK I'm back...head and all.
Brenda Volpe - Light aqua (linen I think paper), leaves stamped all over in
an orange and brown ink. Layered on top is a small square piece of paper
(this is really neat...did you make it?) Layered on top of that looks like
a die cut leaf. I love leaves.. who makes this stamp?
Sharon Jsandahl@hutchtel.net White cardstock with a fireplace stamped on it
and colored with pencils ( I think?) pumpkins, basket, lanatern & candles
are stamped and placed on the fireplace. On inside is a shelf with dried
flowers stamped on it. Nice card.
Gloria Glomom23@otn.net - Gold cardstock with flecks in it (I'm too new to
now my papers). Layered on top is a brown paper with a great PSX stamp of
a wagon, with pumpkins, corn & oats in it. Partially colored in I believe
with markers. Some really kool beads in the middle of the flowers. I'd
love to know the name and/or number of this stamp and are these the beads I
keep hearing about? Where did you get them?
CP (not really sure?) Tan cardstock, with a hunter green cardstock layered
(ribbed or corragated?) On top of that is a layer of lighter tan with edges
trimmed. Beautiful fall leaf stamped, embossed and colored in. Another
PSX stamp I really like.
Dixie Banks - White paper with a sheen, Leaves, acorns, squirrels, and 2
toddlers stamped on it. All colored in with markers. Inside the card is a
large stamp with fruit & vegetables colored in. All around the outer edge
she weaved raffia and has a bow in the center. A heck of a lot of work
went into this card, very nice.
Our hostess gave us a blank notecard and really cute envelope. Also a cute
little stamped card with some yummy candies.
Thank you all! I have really enjoyed doing these swaps. Your cards are
inspirational and give me some wonderful ideas.

From: Janet Detter Margul <janet@dallas.net>
Subject: The List (and all I know)
Dearest Dad Frank (and a few little pitchers with big ears),
I just heard from Andy, our Dueling Modems and RS list technical guru. It
seems yesterday we had corrupted files on one of DM's disk drives, which
effectively crashed everything (including our Design chat yesterday at
noon, Happy Hour at the politics bar chat last night, all the newsgroups
and... THE LIST).
In the process of restoring, the list subscription files were hosed. I
could see exactly where things went south, too, I started getting bounced
mail messages for retro@ho -- I didn't know Chris was a ho, no wonder she's
the happiest girl alive, huh? (No, little pitchers, you are NOT allowed to
ask questions when eavesdropping... but yeah, Chris Rolik is
TheHappiestGirlAlive and the file did corrupt and fall apart in the middle
of her e-mail address, making it retro@ho)
Anyway, Andy is still struggling with everything and if everybody needs to
be resubscribed, then he'll ask me to do that again. Right now all
subscribe and unsubscribe requests are bouncing back to people, as the DM
server goes down. And up. And down and up. I wish the list was working so I
could tell everybody to just hang loose and trust us to take care of them.
I miss the list.
It's actually sort of scary how dependent I am on technology and the list
and everything. But there it is. And judging from my mail, there are about
500 other people just like me. And you. But I will take care of them, and
do whatever Andy says he needs. I don't think the subscription lists are
corrupted again (and if they are, I'm blaming the Naughty Room party), I
think we have no list because the whole server is flipping up and down
fixing these drives.
Anyway, I thought I'd let you know what was going on here. And tell you if
anyone writes you asking for the list back, to assure them I'll take care
of the subbing parts if that needs to be done, but to hang loose and trust
in The M.O.M. Oh and I learned my lesson last time, all those little
pitchers are getting this as a blind carbon copy.
Tell "the kids" to go surf the net and to admire our web pages on Dueling
Modems. Point them at the ones you wrote, they are things of beauty and can
be found as links off the http://publicforum.dm.net page in the chat schedule.
Hugs and kisses and I'll see you at our chat tonight with the high school
students. I'm sure Andy will have the irc.dm.net chat server working by
9:30 EDT.
Love,
M.O.M. (since there are those 578 little pitchers with big ears listening)

Subject: mail art exchange! a delightful day!
hello friends,
today was a windy autumny day here in nova scotia and the leaves blew
around my legs and the sun shone and the trees glowed. and in the mail i
received three mail art thingies from the groups i am involved in. and
what a thrill each and every one was. i could tell that my thoughts of
harvest and the changing leaves were on the ninds of my compatriots in
mail art too wherever the happened to live.
from darlene sybert i received my first halloween treat. in a matchbook
like card she has stapled a package of m&m's and on the outside we have a
brightly coloured squash, pumpkin or gourd (i am not clearly up on my
vegies. a lovely surprise and such a great idea.
from theresa durn a yellow cardstock (muted, not bright. the yellow of
the fall, not of the summer) a pattern of rust and orange and gold with
leaves interspersed. very effective. and inside some mrs. grossman
stickers of leaves and a wreath of leaves. many thanks!
from max lees a remarkable card of three women in a big brass basket
surrounded by leaves, mostly green and shades of brownish green but here
and there a brass one or a gold one. these are real metal things these
leaves and this bucket! and overlooking it all is the quiet wisdom of a
large celestial sun. and her message is of leaves too. how gorgeous it
is, this card!
and my october delights (?) are nearly completed and will be mailed to you
all from a little town in the country near here where i am going next week
to spend a week in these gorgeous leaves riding a sturdy pony through the
woods and down to the sea... watch for a hello from me!
and thanks

Subject: RS: Newbie Swap Group 6
Hi!
Received a cute card from Mary Ellen Conn today for the Newbie Swap Grg.6.
Mary Ellen took creme cardstock and stamped Hero Art's Java stamp all over it
for a background. On top of that she layered a piece of brown cardstock and
then beige. Coffee is my best friend is embossed on the beige cardstock. I
love the stamp she stamped the envy with. It reads "I need to lose about 175
poiunds. But he doesn't want a divorce." What a hoot!
Good job Mary Ellen,
Pebbles
