  50. I'm like Feathers, I have over 50 teapots (my favorite is a mama unicorn
  51. with her baby) and over 300 cookbooks...I figure if I get one really
  52. good recipe out of a book, then it's worth keeping.  Oh, and postage
  53. stamps...started that to try to interest my son in geography...but it's
  54. addictive.  And pocketbooks!!! well, they're not really a collection,
  55. because once they're read, they go on to other people, but we have
  56. enough to fill a library at any one time...and with rubber stamping,
  57. who has time to read?

  71. Is this disucssion only about stealing phrases out of Hallmark cards? Most
  72. of the stampers I know of are pretty bright cookies and can come up with
  73. MUCH better ideas than those Hallmark folks. Better to stretch your own
  74. creativity maybe and end up with superior resluts.
  75.  
  76. Do people use rubberstamp catalogs as quote refrence books and copy the
  77. quotes and sayings onto their computers and use those in their cards rather
  78. than buying the word stamps? If so, there is a bigger issue than whether
  79. this is legal or not legal.
  80.  
  81. Quotes are obviously not the property of anyone. But it takes many hours of
  82. research to find the collections you see in catalogs. I read and reject
  83. hundreds and hundreds of quotes when I am selecting them for my catalog.
  84. MOST are not useful.  By the time they appear in a catalog, a lot of time
  85. has gone into them. The ones that I have made up myself DO belong to me as
  86. much as an image belongs to someone who draws it. You can as easily say
  87. that an image can be scanned into the computer and a few lines changed as
  88. you can say that a saying can be copied in a different font.
  89.  
  90. But what does the person who made these available for scanning get out of
  91. it? Nothing. So, why in the world would they CONTINUE to produce? They
  92. won't. Ultimately the source will dry up or at least be greatly reduced
  93. because nobody works just for the heck of it.
  94.  
  95. I am not at all picky about my stamps being used without copyright
  96. restrictions so long as the stamp is purchased. However, if catalogs are
  97. being used as a source of quotes this does not seem fair, whether legal or
  98. not. Ultimately,if companies discover they are losing business, they are
  99. bound to take steps such as: not offering many word stamps, charging $8 to
  100. $10 for their catalogs which are being used as reference books and not as
  101. "catalogs," offering word stamps in a separate catalog, raising the prices
  102. of word stamps to compensate,  or selling  them only in grabbags. I guess
  103. what I am saying is that abuses, whether legal or not, lead to undesirable
  104. results for consumers because businesses will always react to the market.
  105. When the stamps are not purchased the market for them is reduced and they
  106. will dwindle or disappear.  People who like to have a large variety of
  107. stamps to choose from at reasonable prices are the ones who ultimately
  108. lose.
  109.  
  110. I would ask stampers to ask themselves not only whether uses are  legal,
  111. but if they are right. Each stamper has to decide the climate that they
  112. want to create.

  130. I collect thimbles and bells. Oh I guess you'd say cookbooks too because I
  131. have over 300 of them. Then theres the hat pins I seem to accumulate, in
  132. the closet I seem to have lots of unspun fibers and the yarn lots of yarn.
  133. I design sweaters so yarn is here in my office, in my closets in my spare
  134. room and in the shed. Anyone need any yarn??<G> Now  it seems to be stamps
  135. and paper, oh but lets not forget the embelishments. I've just received a
  136. bunch of metalic fabric, bags of it. I guess I collect more than I
  137. thought!:))

  153. Ok here it is, All of you who hate fruitcake can delete Now<VBG>
  154. Jeweled Fruitcake
  155. 1 Pkg(8oz) dried apricots(about 2 cups)
  156. 1 Pkg. (8oz) pitted date
  157. 3/4 pound whole Brazil nuts (i've used pecans sometimes instead)
  158. 1 cup drained red and green maraschino cherries
  159. 1/3 pound red and green candied pineapple(I can only find natural colored
  160. here)
  161. 3/4 cup flour
  162. 3/4 cup sugar
  163. 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  164. 1/2 tsp. salt
  165. 3 eggs ( 1/2 to 2/3 cups)
  166. 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  167. Mix all ingredients in a bowl thoroughly. Line a 9x5x3 pan (8 1/2x4 1/2
  168. will work) with aluminum foil; grease and pour more like spread mixture in
  169. pan. Bake 300 * for 1 hour 45 mnin. or until toothpic comes out clean
  170. remove from pan and cool. store in a cool place wrapped .
  171.  
  172. once you have the ingredients it's easy and tastes great.

  367. if someone inquires about the company, they will say we've had a
  368. complaint.. and like that.

  372. BBB and ask them what they've got on this company?  I think.

  386. I collect thimbles.  When I got my first job at 17, my grandmother gave
  387. me the thimble that her mother gave her when she got her first job
  388. working for a hat maker.  That thimble is about 80 years old now and
  389. that started the collection.  I have about 75 thimbles and all have a
  390. story or memory to go with them.  My husband dosen't mind the collection
  391. - - it takes up alot less room than the stamps and stuff.

  694. My husband and I started collecting those little souvenir pins a couple
  695. of years ago, when we realized that there really isn't room in the house
  696. to keep storing memory items from every place we visit..  Now we have
  697. them hanging on a curtain in our camper and a banner in the house.
  698. Along that same line- we collect all the "swaps" from years of Girl
  699. Scout events.
  700.  
  701. I'm constantly collecting craft ideas , especially small type of items
  702. that I can share with Girl Scouts and Sunday School.  I finally gave up
  703. saving all the craft magazines and now simply pull out the pages that
  704. interest me and file in one of many craft notebooks.  My only hope is
  705. that I live long enough to retire and have time to try them all out (and
  706. that my hands, eyes, etc. still work!!)
  707.  
  708. Of course, we never know what new collection could be started in our
  709. house, since hubby loves flea markets and second hand stores.  He's
  710. really brought home some incredible items at times, but alot of the
  711. other stuff I hope to sneak right back out in our yard sale. Maybe I
  712. should let you all know when so you can all rush right down to pick up
  713. these "treasures"!!! :>

  736. to me - My Clearsnap rollergraph wheels from Ruthann,
  737. also a Stamp I had ordered for a Stamping Buddy and  a priority mailer from
  738. Ruthann - with the catalogs that I had ordered- Thanks Ruthann - Great Sevice

  741. A great handmade envelope from Jackie Foster- ( it even had the words
  742. Massachusetts on it!! ) I had sent her the instructions for the Tea Bags -
  743. and she sent me a wonderful card - creme cardstock - looks like handmade
  744. cotton paper in  a diamond shape layered on top then a larage rose stamp cut
  745. out color' d ?? and embossed - I have to find out if this is colored or what
  746. - - is is just so pretty - she also enclosed a great selection of wallpaper and
  747. background paper samples - I love them --Thank you Jackie.

  749. Meridee- Rak'd me big time - we had decided to trade some stamps for some
  750. background papers and I knew I didnt send her enough - she not only sent me
  751. the stamps but tons and tons of white glossy cardstock 
  752. full sheets and the card size sheets and postcard size sheets Great textured
  753. wallpaper samples - rough feeling - the glossy and the wallpaper is perfect -
  754. Meridee your a doll - Oh she also made me a beautiful card with tiny
  755. footprints and a larger footprint done in that Verdgiris(Sp) ep - just very

  1032.  You will find the Tombow blender a wonderful tool for achieving soft,
  1033.  watercolor-like effects.  The best way to use it, in my opinion, is to do
  1034.  your blending of color ON THE TIP of the pen, not on paper.  Touch the
  1035.  blender onto your waterbased marker, then apply this lightened color to
  1036.  your work.

  1038.  If I'm coloring a leaf, I'll touch the tip of the marker to a yellow
  1039.  marker and then touch a green marker tip.  This gives me a light green. 
  1040.  With this color on the blender tip, I can apply the color where I want it.
  1041.   I can then take my marker and add darker bits here and there.  It dries
  1042.  pretty quickly.
  1043.   I then go back into the area for fine line detail.

  1045.  I've had less success in blending colors that have already been applied to
  1046.  a card surface.  You might try it for yourself.  I think it would work
  1047.  best on a gloss cardstock that would slow absorption.  The softer papers
  1048.  will just suck up the liquid like a sponge.

  1050.  The Dove blender works very well, too, and has a different composition, so
  1051.  it's jucier.  You can also buy a pack of replacement tips to freshen the
  1052.  point as it wears down over time.  There is also a replacement fluid, so

  1069. you use the blender over colored pencils. It gives it a soft effect and
  1070. blends colors together.. I use mine ALL the time. Be sure to wipe the tip
  1071. off when changing colors on your artwork.

  1074. I was told to use the inside top of an inkpad (or other plastic/metal water
  1075. repellent surface) and "scribble" my marker on to it.  That will create
  1076. little beads of marker ink.

  1078. Then take the blender pen, dip it in the beads of ink and color onto my
  1079. card.

  1081. When it's time to change colors, scribble the blender pen onto a
  1082. towel/napkin and start all over--

  1085. The one I bought only cost 3 dollars and I love it!!!  You can buy extra
  1086. nibs (tips) and it's refillable!!!  I would highly recommend this over the
  1087. tombow any day but this is just my opinion!!  You can do all kinds of neat
  1088. things and it's nice and juicy and works great.  I color a marvy on a piece
  1089. of acrylic (from my positioner) and then use my blender pen to get just the
  1090. right amount of color.  You can also color on your image and drag the
  1091. color.  Works both ways and I really like it.  Use it all the time!!! Sorry
  1092. I don't have any info on where to buy it though, got it at a convention.

  1096. Both the Tombow and the Dove are great pens.  I have both and also sell
  1097. both (though not retail, sorry!  check your favorite RS source).  They are
  1098. quite different so if possible you might want to try both to see what works
  1099. best for you.  Dove is juicier, has replacement nibs for when they wear
  1100. down eventually, and is also refillable.  Tombow is not as wet, so it's
  1101. more controllable in tiny spaces of your artwork, and the pen body and nib
  1102. are thinner.

  1110.  Not regular colored pencils. You can use it with watercolor pencils,
  1111. though, and markers. Also, glossy paper doesn't seem to take a Dove blender
  1112. very well. I've used it on watercolor stock and Bristol vellum. Some coated
  1113. papers will also not take the blender easily.

  1121. Tombow Blending Pen  N00
  1122. Open Fine line stamp
  1123. Base card
  1124. Embossing Powder 
  1125.  
  1126. 1.Cut base card paper, fold and measure.
  1127. 2.Cut Watercolor paper to a size that will fit on the base card with a 1/4"
  1128. border of base card showing around the watercolor paper. 3.Stamp your image
  1129. on the watercolor paper and embosss. 4.Take the tombow marker of your
  1130. choice and begin working in a small area, draw lines with the marker where
  1131. you want darker highlights. 5.Take the blender pen and in a circular motion
  1132. blend out from the highlight marker and pull color to surrounding areas. 
  1133. Continue with that color highlighting and blending until all the areas with
  1134. that color are completed.  6.  Clean the blender by coloring on a scrap
  1135. piece of paper to remove last color before using on the next color.

  1137. *For creating new colors or just for a more watercolor look you can
  1138. highlight
  1139. one area with several coordinating colors before blending.  
  1140. *Before mixing colors in an area try them on a scrap piece of paper.
  1141. *Blending pens run out of ink more quickly than colored pens because of the
  1142. large amounts of space you use them on while blending. *You can use a
  1143. lighter color of the same shade to blend colors then go over the area with
