You know, I really feel silly! That will teach me not to open a box that
comes from a stamper. That box of Twinings Tea? Well, it was REALLY two
stamps--the Posh teapot and teacup! And they are gorgeous! Of course, there
were a few tea bags too!
Thank you again for your generosity--and your spirit of fun!

I don't believe this! This SS Buddy says she only started stamping at the
end of July. How could this be true? She sent me SO MANY neat goodies!
First of all, there was a BIG box, stamped with the Tumbling Teddies roller
stamp. As I attacked the tape, I noticed a very delightful scent seeping
out--the box had lots of potpourri all through it. The next sensation I had
was a riot of color--things were all tissue paper wrapped--pink, yellow,
blue, and teapot. Yes, I did say teapot. That's not really a color, I know,
but let's consider it a theme! There was a box of Twinings English Breakfast
tea, some NEAT teapot stickers, and some extra sheets of the pretty teapot
tissue paper.
She created some really pretty return address labels with notes on them--now
how did she know I love music??? (What swap?) And have you ever head of
Cow Tales? I never had, but let me tell you, I have three of them now, and
I'm not sharing--they're chewy caramel candy with a cream center! And there
is a package of Fran's fabulous Spectra Art Tissue everybody's been talking
about, in it's beautiful colors.
There was a journal, with a rose fabric cover, and bookmarks inside. And a
great pair of Fiskars that I didn't have! Two kinds of embossing powder!!!
Two kinds of post it notes!!! A little glass bottle stuffed with gold curly
ribbon and two silver and stone heart earrings!!! AND, two beeswax
candles!!! And several sheets of vellum!
AND I'M NOT DONE YET!!!
She put together a package for Heather (my 17 year old who's moving across
the country to Boston next week). She included a map of the town she's
moving to (Worcester, MA), a PHONE CARD so she can call home, CARDS with
envelopes, AND POSTAGE STAMPS FOR THE CARDS!!! (See, this stuff is really
for me, not for Heather, 'cause I'm hoping Heather will use those cards to
send MEEEEE a note!) And on top of that, she typed out a list of places for
her to shop, get coffee, and be welcome--just a great idea, and Heather too
was very touched by her thoughtfulness.
And after all that, I have a note from her that says there's ANOTHER package
coming from Fran! WOWEE ZOWEE!
Let me tell you SS Buddy, that you have not only been very generous, you have
hit on a WHOLE Bunch of things that I really love--like candles, post-its,
paper, tissue, sweetly smelling stuff, tea, and candy! (BTW, now there are
only 2 Cow Tales left, and I'm still not sharing!!!). And for you to go out
of your way to help Heather settle in her new "home" town is just incredible.
Your note is so sweet--thank you from the bottom of my heart!

From: stephaniemanifold@juno.com
Subject: RS: Re: TAN: Talcum bad?
This was soo true with mine to. When I had my oldest (who is now 7), we
were told to put her on her tummy. With my second (who is now 3), we
were told to put her on her side. With my third (now 1), we were told to
put her on her back. Well, she would NOT sleep on her back. She would
fight and fight to lay on her tummy. We, figuring it was our third
decied that it would not hurt to put her on her tummy, after all, the
other two were okay!! Well, how wrong we were.
She was 7 weeks old and I had put her down for a nap (at this time she
was sleeping in three/four hour increments. Anyway, she had been asleep
for about 3 1/2 hours (not unusual) and I decided to check on her. She
was fine. So at 4 hours, I checked on her again because it was about
time for her feeding and I wanted to see if she was awake (she was not a
child who cried a lot, so I kind of made it a habit to see if she was
awake). Well when I found her, she was blue. I totally lost it - and
usually I am a very calm and handle problems very well, but this was just
a total shock. All I could do is scream. Thankfully my husband was home
and took control right away (he was a deputy/investigator with the
Sheriff's Department for 8 years so took control immediately). The rest
of the story is such a blurr. It was almost as if I was watching the
whole thing through a tunnel. Very strange. It only took him three
breaths to get her breathing again (her heart was still beating so we
didn't have to perform full CPR). After a few days in the hospital and
being hooked up to a monitor until she was 9 months old she is perfectly
healthy without any problems. We were lucky and I must have had my
guardian angel with me in order for me to find her in time.
Moral of the story - DO NOT put your child on their tummy and DO learn
CPR (never thought I would need it, now I am a firm believer). They say
that the talcum powder is bad for their lungs. Not sure what the effects
were, but I'm sure there is a very good reason.
Sorry to get off topic, but I figured this would be a good time to stress
to those parents out there who DO NOT know CPR. Please, please, please
check with your local Red Cross. I don't know what I would have done if
my husband had not been here!!!

From: Katina Choovanski <katchoo@randomc.com>
Subject: RS: TAN One More Thing About Piercing
In the last few years it seems like bellybutton/navel piercing has made it
to the "normal" list along with ears--it's cute, maybe sexy, socially
acceptable, etc.
Didja know it's also THE hardest piercing to heal and maintain? That's
right, harder than all the "scary/freaky" piercings you have heard of...
It's not a place that has a great deal of blood circulation so healing is
much slower.
It's a place that is often aggravated by waistbands and other friction
from clothing.
Navel piercings take at least a year to heal and many never heal properly.
They are also quite unstable and very prone to growing out. They are also
quite vulnerable to catching on things and tearing (ouch).
So if your teen is wanting a navel piercing, explain all this to her (or
him) and then gently recommend a tongue or genital piercing instead--they
are much easier to heal and keep happy!
(Um, just kidding with that last bit of advice.... :)

Subject: RS: SSS Karan T rc'd July and August!
Well, TWENTY days after it was mailed, I received July's SS package. (The
post office must have WALKED this package to me!) I think the fetti would
have gone everywhere, but for some strange reason I opened it from the
bottom :-). Inside was a neat stamp of an angel from Portfolio, three
little soaps with different frangrances, star tissue paper that I love, a
package of fresh scents stuff, and great paper in bright colors. (Did I
mention that on my way home from the post office with SS package close to
my side I got hit by another vehicle???? That wonderful BRIGHT YELLOW card
stock came in quite handy!!!! I made the driver right his information on a
piece of it, thinking it would be hard to misplace!) Thus, the reason why
I didn't come straight home and post like I had planned!
Then, low and behold, two days ago I received August's package! Hurray!
Two large animal stamps, one is an elephant, the other is two hippos in the
water, liquid applique in pink (I think), some stick em dots, a bar of
stress relief thyme soap (ok, how DID she know???), a flower stencil, and a
package of dillicious dill dip kit. I love it all! What a variety of
stuff! :-) I think I will use the stress bar in my shower this am!
Thanks, SS! I appreciate your efforts, and will enjoy each and every gift,
thinking of you when I use them! It must have been hard for you not
hearing about July's package yet. Sorry for my delay in posting. I
checked out the date you mailed it, and it truly was twenty days later that
it arrived. I wonder what they do with these packages........
THANKS! THANKS! THANKS! THANKS! THANKS! THANKS! THANKS! THANKS!

Nisa,
If you'd like to receive a color flyer on the self-adhesive=20
postoids stickers of my own original designs, just send me your=20
snailmail addy and I'll pop it in the mail for you. Thanks for=20
asking the question! The answer is below, probably more info=20
than you really expected, but the following is an explaination=20
that was posted to the list a while back, by Gretchen Davey.
Sheryl=20
"Postoids" by Gretchen Davey <daveym@proaxis.com>
Postoids, =93Faux Postage Stamps=94, Artistamps, Mail Art - all of these
are names for a fun hobby that=92s been around for a long time, but hasn=92=
t
been all that well known around this area. These neat little =93postage
stamps=94 can be extremely elaborate, resembling real stamps very closely=
,
or they can be quite simple and very easy to do. Some are made on the
computer, or using a copy machine. The techniques we will cover will
exclusively use rubber stamps, doing each postoid individually.
Postoids are a fun way to enjoy stamping when you don=92t have a lot of
time or space to do a large item. They=92re a great portable project
because a lot of it can be done ahead of time. The finish work can be
done anywhere - on vacation, in the car, in a waiting room, or anywhere
you can color, glitter, or cut! Finished postoids make great envelope
decorations and are great for =93swapping=94 with other postoid enthusias=
ts!
Postoids are usually gummed so they can be stuck to envelopes as a
decoration, so peel-&-stick paper or gummed paper is a great thing to
have on hand. You can also make your own adhesive and paint it on the
back. Since this tends to curl the paper, you need to let it dry
completely and then iron it flat with a DRY iron (using a cloth). Of
course, you can also individually apply glue to each postoid to adhere
them to the surface, but if you want to exchange postoids with others,
you need to have the adhesive on them in a way that lets others use them
easily.
The three techniques we will cover are: 1.) Pre-made postoid stamps,
2.) Empty postoid frame/tiny stamp postoids, and 3.) design-your-own
postoids.
Method #1: Pre-made Postoids. Many companies carry pre-made postoid
stamps. Hero Arts, Peddlar=92s Pack, and All Night Media are just three
companies that carry lots of fun designs. With these, you just stamp the
postoid on your surface, color it in, add glitter or other special
effects if desired, and cut out. The =93Stamp Edgers=94 from Fiskars make=
a
great postage stamp edge!
You can also stamp your postoids right onto the envelope and color them
in. This is a great way to decorate your envelope when you don=92t have
time or the materials to make full-fledged postoids. Sometimes you can=92=
t
tell if they=92ve been stamped or stuck to the outside of the envelope!
Materials needed:
Gummed or Peel & Stick Paper
Postoid Stamps
Coloring markers
Glue
Stamp Edgers
Method #2: Fill a Frame Postoids. Empty postoid frames are carried by a
number of companies, such as Hero Arts & TooMuchFun. You then take one
of your tiny stamps (didn=92t we all start out buying a bunch of those
because they were cheaper, but now don=92t know what to do with them?) an=
d
stamp the image inside of the empty frame. Depending on how your eye is,
some prefer to stamp the frame first and then fill it; others stamp the
tiny image first and then stamp the frame around it. After coloring the
image, add a =93postal saying=94 and =93value=94 and, voila!, you have a
postoid!
Materials needed:
Gummed or Peel & Stick Paper
Postoid Frame
Tiny Stamps
Colored Pens
Stamp Edgers
Method #3: Design your own Postoids. Sometimes you see a stamp that
would make a terrific postoid, but it=92s too big for an empty postoid
frame. You may have a great idea, but you=92ll need to combine a couple o=
f
stamps to achieve the results you want. This is where your creativity
can kick in! On a piece of paper, play around with your stamps, trying
different placements and combinations. When you get the image you want,
draw a plain rectangle around it and see if the finished product is what
you want. If it is, duplicate your design a number of times on a piece
of adhesive backed paper, color and decorate as you please, draw the
frames around them, and cut them out with your stamp edgers. Some of
these =93do-it-yourself=94 postoids are the neatest of all!
Materials Needed:
Gummed or Peel & Stick Paper
Small stamps
Colored pens
An extra fine-tipped black pen (for the frame)
Stamp edgers
Recipe for Adhesive: 1 Tablespoon white glue (like Bordens or Alene=92s
Tacky Glue)
1 Tablespoon white vinegar
1 drop peppermint (or other) flavoring
This can be stored in a small plastic container to have ready to paint
onto the back of your paper with a small paint brush. If you want a
larger amount, just keep the proportions the same: 1 measure of white
glue to 1 measure of white vinegar. Remember that the paper will curl as
it dries, so be prepared to iron it flat when it=92s dry (or flatten it
under a heavy book).

The deferal area thing has been going on here (rural Northeastern Wisconsin)
for quite a while now (before the strike). My DH had ordered some things
2nd day air via UPS. He couldn't figure out why they weren't arriving. He
called the company he ordered from and they said that they sent them and
gave him the tracking numbers. He looked up the numbers on the internet UPS
site and it said "delivered". Well, it wasn't! I finally arrived two days
later. He asked the driver why and they said cuz we are in a deferal area
they only deliver here on certain days. Well, needless to say, DH was not a
happy camper!
