She's been home already for nearly a week, but her lovely postcard from
Alaska (postmarked Aug. 1) arrived today.
Seems like Wendie was successful in finding stamps to purchase even all
the way up there.
Thanks Wendie. Love it.

Please tell Diana that her card was absolutely beautiful and that I would
like to know what company makes those stamps. I really really love her
card. And if she is new, then I would sure like to see her work when she
gets better. Thanks also for the tip on crystal lacquer, I'm sure I've
seen posts regarding it, but don't pay much attention to them until I see
something that strikes me and then inquire about it, so now I will have
to start reading all the "crystal lacquer posts" to increase my knowledge

Subject: RS: Re: Bran Muffins..and more
Here are a couple of really food recipes. I hope you like them!
ALWAYS READY BRAN MUFFINS
3 c Unprocessed wheat bran
1 c -- Water, boiling
1 c Sugar
1/2 c Margarine
2 Eggs
2 1/2 c Flour, unbleached
2 1/2 ts Baking soda
1 t Salt
2 c Buttermilk
Raisins (opt.)
Pecans (opt.)
* I use whole wheat flour and add water to the
recipe.
Put 1 c of the wheat bran in a small bowl. Add the
boiling water, stir once and let stand to soften.
Cream the margarine and sugar in a mixing bowl. Beat
the eggs slightly and add to the margarine mixture,
mixing well.
Combine the flour soda and salt in a mixing bowl.
Combine the wheat bran, the softened bran, and the
flour mixture, and then combine with the
egg/margarine/sugar mixture alternately with the
buttermilk. Stir until thoroughly mixed.
Pour into a plastic container with a tight lid. Store
in the refrigerator for a minimum of 12 hours and a
maximum of 6 weeks. Makes 2 dozen.
These muffins are made, stored in the refrigerator,
and baked whenever they are wanted. About 25 minutes
before serving, preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Spoon the batter into teflon-lined or buttered muffin
tins, filling them 2/3 full. Bake 18 minutes and
serve.
I like to add rasins and pecans to the muffin tins
before cooking.

This seems to run in spurts...no doubles for a while, then occasionally,

don't get 'em for a while.
It seems to come from some burp in cyberspace...I get 'em occasionally on

That's where we have ours. The spare bathroom is the cat's room.
We also have a box in the cupboard in that bathroom with a little
cat door to get into it, because one of our cats won't let the other one use
HER box. The food and water is up on the counter. I hate kicking over
a water bowl in the middle of the night so this arrangment works out fine.
It keeps everything together and if guests come over we just pull the
bathtub curtain and the only thing different about the room is the food and
water bowls on the counter. Oh yea, and the plastic cover on the toilet
paper to keep the cats from playing with it.

Been there...Carleigh (2 1/2) has done similar things....she loves my
decorative scissors...she thinks they are way kewl! SO she goes in my room,
grabs the kewlest ones she can reach...usually the deckle or majestic (her
favs) and cuts whatever is in sight!!! Once she ruined a couple of cards,
some new colored cardstock ($), some photos and some letters from stamp pen
pals...that was fun trying to piece it all back together so I could write
back to them! OF course it wasn't all in one day.... She does this in a
matter of time...and steps...It's their plan to see how far they can push us.
LOL
But I'll keep her all the same...cute little pumpkin (or dumplin as Marsha
calls her).

Subject: RS: InkyPaws (Lisa) July SSS Finally here!
After a LONG and very HOT and HUMID day, I came home to a pretty big pile of
mail. My sister said that there was a package there for me so I quickly made
my way to the pile and opened it up! It was from Amazon Books. I didn't
remember ordering anything from Amazon Books! Then inside on the invoice
there was a note from my SSS. No, they didn't reveal who you are, so your
safe there. :)
It looks like it took forever to get here though. It was mailed Aug 4th
(priority) and didn't get here until today, the 9th. Some priority that is!
Anyway....just wanted to thank you for the 2 books! The one is absolutely
FANTASTIC!!! It's called POP-O-MANIA, How to create your own pop-ups, by
Barbara Valenta. What's so kewl about this book is that the whole book is a
pop-up! She tells you how to do it and you can see it before your very eyes!
I've read through it about 5 or so times already! I can't wait to try some
of the techniques! I feel a Pop-Up Swap coming! :)
The other book was neat too, but I don't think I'll be able to use it. :(
Maybe some one can help me figure out a way that I could use it? It's a
Teddy Bear Punch out stencil book. There's 16 really cute teddy bears that
you can use as stencils but they're way too big to use on a card. Each one
is a half sheet big. I need it about half or less that size to be able to
use them on my cards. I really like the book too. Maybe they make another
book like it with smaller stencils? I thought of maybe copying them and
shrinking them that way, but don't know if that would work. Most copiers
don't take thick card stock. What do you all think?
Anyway...thanks so much for these 2 books! I look forward to learning how do
to the pop ups!!

PS....Please contact Dawn <sunrise@wolfenet.com> of Golden Sunrise
Enterprises. She has my Judikin's wish list and there's several
there that I really want/need.

I'm lucky enough now that our cat has her own space. We installed a cat
door (specially made to fit in windows- made of clear plexiglass) in the
dining room window that looks out onto a screened in porch. The window
is floor to ceiling. She goes out on the naturally ventilated screen
porch for litter box. Her food is on the floor in the breakfast room,
under a table full of plants. We're all happy with the arrangement. I
no longer have to move the litter box when we have overnight guests!
I also know about having two cats who won't use each other's boxes.
Prissy (current) is very neat, very fastidious, unlike the other cat we
had until she died a few years ago. She didn't like sharing with Chaz,
who had gotten too fat to jump onto the table on the porch, so that's
where Prissy's litter box was, along with her food bowl. Chaz's was
under the table. Suited everybody. And worked also to keep Chaz from
eating both bowls full of food.

From: AnnelouR@aol.com
Subject: RS: Time for another tip from ex fast posto--adhesives
Was thinking about stuff for my upcoming Treasure Book "live" class down at
Stampers Garden, and assembling stuff to share, and all that, and considering
what I would tell the class about things they could use for other stamping
activities.
I am gonna show them several kinds of glue: Miracle tape, mono roller, and
Elmer's--and Perfect Adhesive. I thought maybe some of you are not familiar
with the various uses for these, and other adhesives, and might like to hear
a tip or two.
I LOVE the Mono adhesives--all of them; I use the clear liquid or the white
to close roller cards when Mono roller sticky isn't strong enough, and to
attach the spines of wee books. I use it to stick pieces of cardstock
together for pull tabs, and other parts that need to be double-strength.
Liquid glues can be tricky--their wetness stretches the paper, and so you
have to be careful about getting the right amount; not enough, it won't
stick, and too much, it wrinkles and stretches. Experience is the best
teacher with this, so take time to experiment so you won't spoil a treasured
project. All the wet glues will creep beyond their original placement, so
take that into account too--don't put them right on the edge of your paper.
If you should have adhesive creep out from underneath, gently wipe with a
damp cloth. DAMP--not wet.
Another wet glue I use for book and box projects is PVA (polyvinyl adhesive).
This is archival, and wonderful. But it is wet, and all the caveats above
apply. I use it on oriental papers, expecially, as it will not stain, and
dries clear. It is spendy, though.
Elmer's, the old standby, works like the other liquid glues, and is what to
get when you have run out, are desperate, and the only place open is the
all-night drug store. Elmer's is everywhere. It's good to take for classes,
as it isn't very expensive.
Aleene's tacky is good for most anything, and I always have some of that
around. You can use it wherever you need a wet glue; and you can thin it down
if necessary. Be careful when thinning glues, though--you can thin the sticky
right outta them!
Perfect Adhesive is good for adding those Beedz, mica, and other stuff like
that there to paper. It is also good for collages. But it IS a wet adhesive,
and can take awhile to dry. So be careful to put it where you want it, and
don't let it run. Cover your collage while it dries, lest is pick up dust. Or
maybe your house doesn't HAVE dust--mine sure does!
Elmer's, Aleene's tacky, PVA, and Perfect Adhesive can be used as a glaze
over your work. They all dry clear, and they all will give a shiny look.
Don't use them--any of them--with papers that will fade or run when wet. Use
dry adhesives for these.
Sometimes you want to cover a fairly large area with adhesive--when you are
covering a box, for example. If you don't have a stickflat glue like Yes!
paste, you can brush on the PVA or Elmer's or Perfect Adhesive. Use a brush
that will not trail loose bristles over your project, and if the box is
large-ish, glue a bit at a time and be sure it is smooth, then proceed.
Miracle Tape is amazing stuff. Use it to attach paper to paper, paper to
metal, metal to paper, etc., etc., etc. It is NOT good to cover large areas,
of course--that's where you need the Yes! or the liquid adhesives. Or, if you
are lucky, a Rollataq.
A Rollotaq is liquid adhesive in a controlled applicator (refillable), and
can save you making those unwanted globs of adhesive in unwanted places. It
is another spendy item, but if you do a lot of box- and/or book-covering,
this is the toy for you. When you cover a box, or book boards, put the
adhesive on the box or board, not your paper--the paper will stretch more
than the cardboard material, and the application will be more difficult with
stretchy paper.
Some folks like to use rubber cement for box-covering, etc., because it can
be repositioned some. But it doesn't last forever, though there is one out
there now that is archival, to use with scrap books. I haven't tried it yet,
so can't tell you how it behaves.
Glue stick is wonderful for most paper sticking. The trick is to use enough.
The other trick is not to use too much, and make lumps in your project.
Again, experience is the best teacher. My favorite is Uhu, but others are
good, too.
Yes! paste and other stickflat glues are fairly dry, and can also be thinned
with water. Put these on with a brush. Wash the brush out well afterwards, so
you can use it again. Otherwise, it will be like a board.
The tapes--Dryline, Mono, etc., and the spendy but very useful 3M gun--are
super time savers. Any time you can use them, you save effort and time. I
have become enamored of the Mono roller, though I have my trusty 3m gun when
I have big projects like Halloween cards for a multitude. The Mono travels
really well, and I like the fact that is rolls on plastic, and therefore
won't break like the Dryline sometimes does.
For sticking on rhinestones and such-like, Aleene's jewel-it cement is
wonderful. Other folks make similar products--but I stick to Aleene's cause
it's what I first got and it works so why change. Allene's tacky is a second
choice. You can also use 527, but I try to avoid glues that require
ventilated areas unless I have to use them--like for pin backs.
Ah, yes, pin-backs! My favorite is Elmer's Stix All, which I tried in
desperation one time when the store was out of both Goop and E6000, and have
loved ever since. I use it on poly clay as well as laminated pins. Works on
wood, too--and metal. And friendly plastic...if any of you are still messing
with that stuff.
There's Goop (not the hand cleaner) and E6000, too--these used to come in
lifetime-supply sized tubes, and these would dry out before you could use up
the glue. Now they come in smaller sizes, and if you are not gonna
mass-produce tons of pins, get the smaller sizes--you won't waste as much.
Stix All comes in a small tube, BTW, and you may even use it ALL before it
dries in the tube.
Silicone seal is good for attaching those brass charms, and for supporting
sculptured forms. Tole--real tole--doesn't use the supports, but if you are
gonna have to mail the stuff, it's wise to use the silicone seal to support
and foil the post office smash machine.
Have I left anything out? Oh, yes--I didn't mention tack it over and
over--another Aleene's treasure, or the post-it stuff, or leather glue, or
contact cement, or carpenter's glue...Oh, well.
The thing to remember about adhesives is: Suit the adhesive to the project,
follow the instructions, if any, and allow the stuff to dry before you
manhandle it. Don't mail a project while it's still wet, unless ou can count
on the recipient's ability to stick it back when it comes apart. Right, Nan
Johnson????
Cheers, ex fast posto (Nan)
