Subject: RS: Re: Birdhouses swap
Tracy,
Thanks a bunch for hosting a swap that I could join in on.
All of the cards are great and the extra one makes it even better.
The ones I got are:
Bin Yamamoto: On beige cardstock layered with brown corragated paper
and the whte layer stamped with 3 birdhouses and these perfect shaped
leaves sort of falling around. Where are those leaves from. I love them.
D1derly: light tan cardstock with a layer of very shiny multi color
background and birdhouses in black with gold accents. They are outlined
in the gold. I'm sure this is some special technique that I don't
know the name of. I have no clue how this was done. It's over my head.
What is this called? Very cool indeed.
Sharon, mouse potato: wonderful scene card. A fancy park bench with a
ladies hat and some dafodills laying on it. Grass and flowers and a
birdhouse next to park bench. Then, a fence in front (3-D). The fence
really opens up so you can see the rest of the scene. It's a real white
picket fence with dafodills and grass growing around it. The background
is stippled or something like that, it's a blue sky. Very pretty card. I
love that fence, I keep opening it up and closing it!
Linda Edwards: Nice original card using Rubber Moon stamps. I've never
seen their stamps before so this was a treat in itself. It's a birdhouse
with sunflowers around the base and a bird (garden pecking bird) holding
a large sunflower like it is a staph. Blue glittery birds flying and
some pretty copper embossed star flowers at the bottom. My description
does not do it justice. It is very original and interesting. Real neat.
K.C.Davis: Off white cardstock layered with a checkerbox print done in
brown and tan. Top layer off white with birdhouse and plants, and
watering can and a topiary ivy plant. All colored so well, that I can't
tell if it's markers, chalks or what. It is colored perfectly. Then,
there's a botton in the corner tied with raffia. The botton is a pair
of gardening gloves and a spade. It is so neat. I love that button.
A pop-up card with no name. If I made this card, I'd write my name all
over it! It's a real pop-up card. A bee hive with flowers (lupines or
glads) bird houses hanging from a tree branch above and more birdhouses
in front of a fence. The tree branch is raised with cushion so it stands
out and the bee hive and other houses pop up (out) at you. Sunflowers
are also with the group of birdhouses. The background of the whole
scene is stipples very pretty in green. This is a great card. Wish I
had made it.
Thanks to everyone for sending in such wonderful cards that I can learn
from. Thanks again to Tracy for having a fun swap topic.

Katchoo,
I, too, started off with a cheapo FIMO, except it was a glorious purple
rather than a rich blue. I agree that FIMO is much harder to work, but
on the plus side is that it retains an image much better <and gives much
sharper details>than Sculpey To get really sharp images with Sculpey, I
find I have to put it in the fridge repeatedly.
Just my nickel's worth.

It is a PERMAMENT dye-based ink. That's why you can use it for
watercolors, markers and colored pencils and they won't bleed.

I don't know if it's good or not.. if I'm lucky, I'll get a taste before
it's gone.. odds are I won't though! brownies and cream sounds pretty
tasty too, actually.. but perhaps a disappointment if you had your heart
set on oreos. you got harris teeter? or anybody that sells president's
choice? they have a peanut butter decadence or somesuch that is way way
way good for store ice cream.. the tiramisu decadence one isn't bad
either!

The only ink that I could get to dry was Fabrico.
I even tried EP, but that has lots of other problems.

I prefer to use Fabrico Real Black, I stamp it, set the stamp in
my baby wipes and then heat set it. After Fabrico is heat set it
can be colored with pencils (used oil pencils) or markers again
I used Fabrico markers, but I'm sure that others will work.
When I'm done stamping the stamps clean right up, that have been
sitting in the baby wipes.

My mom sent me a TTPO. I was on the phone with her when it came. It
was a nice ink pin that has angels on the case. I LOVE ANGELS!!! She
wanted to see if they could get it to me in one piece cus' of its size.
It came just fine. But Mom puts so much tape on stuff I didn't think i
would ever get it unwrapped. She is having as much doing this as we
are. She sent me a sponge 2 weeks ago.

Subject: Re: RS: Fimo?
Y'all,
I used to be addicted to Fimo and the other brands before I started
stamping a couple of years ago.
Fimo and the others make great fake sealing wax thingys. I love sealing
wax and all the great things it can do, but it is rather fragile..it almost
always cracks or breaks in the mail. I read it somewhere, so I can't claim
it is an original idea. You just make a nut sized ball of Fimo and lightly
coat your stamp with some clear embossing fluid and stamp into it. I use
foil as a under sheet...then bake..and you've got a durable 'sealing wax'
imprint to glue on your cards or the back of envy's. I've been thinking of
trying the same method with the white bread/glue clay..I think it would
work as well.
Just a thought,
Sandy

Hi all,
I received my prize from the Baggie's labor of love. I won two sheets
of um rubber from evolving images. They sent the seashells and
penguins. I love the images! Thanks Terri and Ellen and Dale and
everyone else involved in the "raffle". It felt really great to know
that I could give a little something back to the list, not to mention
getting something myself at the same time!

Subject: RS: Re: TAN: Fimo?
Linnzie,
Hmm, the problem I have with FIMO is that I'll FINALLY get it conditioned...
then one of the kids will need me... or the dogs... or DH... or something
else will come up... and it will be an hour or so before I can get back to
the clay project and then the FIMO will be TOO HARD to work with yet once
again... so I spend another hour or so getting it ready for me to work
with... and then one of the kids will need me... or the dogs.... or DH...
and so on, ad nausem. So, I have very poor luck with FIMO. I have heard
that it is better for caning but I can't get my canes to turn out even with
FIMO. Have you tried Clay Factory clay? I've heard wonderful things about
that clay; namely, that it's easier to condition but still maintains it's
shape and firmness for cane making. Only mail order right now... and I just
sent off for some for a mask swap I'm doing (due in October so I have time
for mail order clay).
