Subject: RS: January birthday swap
I finally received my first January birthday card! It's a really neat
postcard from Sandra Luck. It's been described before so I won't go into it
again. It only lost one bead - not bad considering it had to travel all the
way to Australia :) Thanks again Sandra and I'll get on to making a card
from you asap.
If there are any other Group 1 people who will be sending me cards, can you
please send me an E-mail just to let me know. So far I've only made cards
for my own Group 2 people - I'd like to send something to you before I go
off on my vacation (Yippee! I'm leaving in two weeks for a holiday in Hawaii!)
Rubber hugs to everyone,
Jessica

From: lingama@ozonline.com.au (J & A Lingam)
Subject: RS: Aussie Swap received
Yippee - I received my cards today as well. After reading all the
descriptions, I just wished I made more cards for swapping.
The cards I got were from:
1. Sheryl Hodge - Sheryl stamped the background with the Hero Arts travel
word stamp using blue ink. Sheryl then stamped and embossed a map of the
world using the Continent stamp set from Hero Arts. I'm not sure which ep
she used but it's wonderful. If you look at it straight on, it is black but
if you tilt the card a bit, it's got flecks of shiny blue ep. It's really
great!
2. Fay Oliver - a simple but really elegant card. Fay used the rose and leaf
corner stamp from Hero Arts to stamp on the four corners of the card. She
then embossed in gold. In the centre, she gold embossed 'Thinking of You'
(by Stamp World) and right under that, was a gold embossed swan (by Stamp
Art). The whole card is just in white and gold, and the embossing is really
neat!
3. Michelle Cullen - On a white card, Michelle has stamped a shell in the
middle in blue and embossed with clear. The bottom corners are stamped with
matching shell borders, again in blue and embossed in clear. All the images
are coloured using watercolour pens. Michelle has cut off 0.5cm using
decorator scissors and inside the card, she has glued down a strip of
colourful decorator paper on the edge, so that part of it can be seen from
the front of the card.
4. J. Sexton - Wow! This is my very first explosion card! On the outside
of the card, she has stamped 'Thanks so very much' (Posh Impressions) using
a pastel rainbow pad. She then created a frame by masking with a post-it
note and sponging on the outside with various shades of purples and pinks.
The 'explosion' insert has been stamped using the paint splatter
Rollergraph. She embossed the butterfly in each of the top corner with
copper ep. In the centre, she has black embossed 'God Bless You'. What can
I say except that I love this card and I'm going to try to make an explosion
card soon.
5. Nerolie Oakes - this is a great card! Nikki and Megan has already
described this but I just wanted to add my 'oohs' and 'aahs' to theirs. I
think Nerolie used the tripple embossing technique (?) that was being
discussed on the list - you know where you keep putting on eps layers upon
layers and stamp on the final layer while it is still warm? Well, that's
what I'm guessing as I've never actually seen this technique before - but
whatever it is, it's beautiful.
6. Kym Pottinger - again, this shaker card has been described by others.
But I just wanted to say thanks for sending me one because I absolutely love
shaker cards!! How did you guess <BG>!
Well, this was a really fun swap - thanks Kym so much for all your hard
work. Now to get cards out for Aussie Swap no 2!

I buy the "gourmet" brand they have in the store, that you measure out the
beans and then grind them (I'm not a true purist, I use the store grinder
rather than grinding my own for each pot)...we only go through a few
teaspoons-worth a week so it lasts for several months in the fridge. I
checked the price on it last week and it was stable at $7.99/lb.
As for your dilemma--I would stock up on enough for a month while it's on
sale; that way if the prices don't come down for awhile you are okay; if
they do come down you won't have so much coffee at the higher price that
you are kicking yourself.

Subject: RS: AD: Spectra Art Tissue - Price good thru 8/10
Last call on SPECTRA ART TISSUE at this price!!! I will hold this price
until Aug. 10th. I called my supplier yesterday to order more, and they
told me the price went up Aug 1, and that I must have gotten in just before
the price hike. I wonder why they didn't tell me the price was going up! I
would have ordered more....
Each package contains one sheet (19"x30") each of the following 10 colors
(blue, green, yellow, red, magenta, pink, brown, kahki, purple, and orange)
for $3.50 + $1 shipping.
Not just your regular tissue, Spectra Art Tissue is tinted with a dye that is
water-based and not permanent. If you wet it, the dye will come off, so you
can use it to get very pretty watercolor effects (for background!) You can
also glue this down with a glue stick or spray adhesive. But the neatest way
of using it, is to cut a shape, wet it, then lay it down on your card (before
you stamp). Wait a few minutes for the color to work out, and lift it off.
The color stays behind for a very pretty watercolor effect. You can re-use
the piece as the colors last a long time, but fade with each use.
After Aug. 10th, the price will go to $5.50 per package (+$1 shipping).

Very true about the food, but at my place they are stored it

might get mixed up and microwave the EP instead.

Wow, three times in one day. Is that a record?????
First I got a card from my friend Lindaloo. She is coming to my house
to stamp for 5 days in August, so she sent me a card with a calendar on
the front and stamped each day we will be together with a small rubber
stamp. Too KEWL - she always thinks of the neatest things.
Secondly, I got a really neat card from Michelle Sibert. Light brown
cardstock with pumpkins along bottom. A scarecrow all colored up and on
a stick. Crows layered and raised. Really cute Michelle thanks.
(Don't be so hard on yourself Michele) All is said, done, and
forgotten!!
Thirdly I got my Christmas in July Swap back and my birthday twin Dennie
hosted this one. She RAKED me with a really cute card that I think I
can take apart and hang on my tree as an ornament, plus in the package
was an Award Certificate printed on Vellum. Wow, I don't think I'd
better hostess a Swap. This girl outdid herself. Thanks Dennie, and I
won't forget your birthday <G>.

Thanks Dennie for hosting this swap, and thanks for all the extras you
put in. The stickers are great and the Certificate is awesome. Where
is the Santa from on the card you RAKED me with? Did you make and
emboss your business cards or did you have them professionaly printed??
I have that DOTS bear also!!
Carole Mork: A neat card of a little guy standing on his dog's head
while he attempts to look in a parcel. "No shakin' pokin' or peekin'
raised and layered on Christmas paper. A piece of raffia and a button
for embellishment. Very nice.
Glenyce Mork: Dark green linen cardstock punched at top and a silver bow
tied through the punches. Trees and Merry Christmas embossed in silver.
I do believe this is a Denami stamp = I love it. Wow, I think those
Morks have the rest of us outnumbered<VBG>
Starlight Stamper: This card is so cute, I love it! How can I get some
of that snowflake background paper. Card stock is midnight blue with
white snowflakes on it. Joy to the world stamped and embossed in white.
A snow scene with 5 snowmen all colored. She has put her family names
here and assigned one to each snowman. Simply awesome idea!!! Not one
but two verses inside.
Katrice Faulkner: Red linen cardstock with snow flakes and snow stamped
and embossed. A sprig of holly and a snowman layered. I don't know how
there can be so many terrific ideas in this one swap. It is too KEWL!!
Kate Farricker: She says this is her first swap, but this gal is
obviously NOT a NEWBIE! She has brayered her background - I need to
know how (I don't use my brayer enough) Then there is a white layer,
and then a dark green layer that has white splotches on it (how did you
do this???) There is red sparkly strings on the card then a glossy
ornament with a Cool Dude Santa in the ornament. This is a great card.
This was definitely a swap to be in! It was so much fun.

Subject: RS: TAN: Dad's hurt, Send cards please (LONG)
Hi everyone. I want to ask your help.
Last week my Dad took a white water rafting trip. He's been planning for
it all year. The actual trip was a two week trip through the Grand
Canyon and out the other side but he could only take a week of it so he
and a buddy were getting out in the middle of the canyon, hiking 7-8
miles up to the top in one day so they could get out and catch their
planes on time. Well, I have been worried about this ever since he told
me. There are no cell phones etc that work there and they wouldn't have
a radio so if anything happened he would be out of luck.
He was due back Sunday and I never heard anything so I assumed all went
well. Until last night that is. I rec'd a phonecall and apparently there
was an accident and Dad was hurt. Now I know it could have been worse
but it is still upsetting. My Dad, even at 64 is such a go getter and I
have never known him to be sick or laid up for any reason.
As for the details of the injury: It seem that it happened the day
BEFORE dad was to hike out and the water, of course, was rough. Three
people bounced up in the air while going through the rapids and all 3
landed on Dads leg as the rapids forced his leg under a section of the
boat. He heard it snap and knew right away it was broken but they were
in the bottom of the canyon and he was stuck there. I guess they were
able to stop and get Dad situated but then had to get back in the water
and go through some MORE rapids to get to the camp site for that day.
Since there was no ice etc. Dad had to spend the night with his leg in
the river! The next day they put him in a wheelbarrow and pushed him
several miles to the ranger station where they radioed for help. Then a
helicoper came and airlifted him out and he went to the hospital. The
helicopter ride was 8 minutes at a cost of over $1300.00. What a way to
get out of the canyon!!!! Plus he's not even sure if insurance will
cover it!
Apparently the hospital confirmed his leg was broken and the knee
fractured. They gave him a removable cast and let him fly home to see
his Drs. 30 xrays later...................He has a broken leg and his
knee is fractured in 4-5 places (I found out this mean pieces of bone are
now missing). He needs to have surgery today to have the fracured areas
filled with silcone and have some pins put in. I just hope and pray all
goes well.
I also hope he recovers to be good as new. The recovery is expected to
take 3 months which will be rough for a man who is so athletic (hiking,
boating and on his way to becoming a master diver in addition to still
working full time at one job and part time at another)! He won't be
doing any of that for a while! Of course the bottom line is that he is
ok and alive and I am so very grateful for that. What a trip for him
though!
My Dad has been great in supporting my interest in rubber stamping. He
couldn't wait to take me to the stamp store in his area when I last
visited him and is always very intersetd in my work! I know he would get
a big kick out of receiving cards from any stampers who cared to send
them. Any kind, even humorous ones about his rocky adventure would be
fine, just no nasty ones. If you can help out please e me for the
address. Getting some cheery mail from everyone will help him through
this time when he is so confined. Thanks!

Terry and Cyndi,
You are most welcome, I'm glad I could help out Baggie..and someone else as
well.
I got it out so quickly in self defense <g>. It was a day or two before
the UPS strike and I was afriad that the postal system would become backed
up and the regular mail really slow down, so I wanted to get it out before
that became a problem. Glad it worked!
Blessings and thank you both,
Sandy

Subject: RS: Antique-? Avon Rubber Stamp ..
My nephew, age 11, and a natural born scounger if ever there was one, spent
a happy hour yesterday afternoon going through some household "rejects" in
the woods back of here. He located an Avon decanter ... this one is brown
glass, in the shape of a rubber stamp, and even has a rubber die with the
image "PAID" on it. It's bottle (which is also the handle and mount for
the "stamp") is about 5 1/4" high and about 3 3/4 wide. The die on the
bottom is 3 1/2 x 1 inches.
Does anyone know when Avon might have had this in their catalog? I've
never seen this particular decanter before, and am just curious.
I'm presently unsubbed, and will be until about August 20 or 21 ... if you
have any clues as to this mystery Stamp Decanter by Avon, I'd love to hear
from you ... please e-mail me at hornbrkj@nbnet.nb.ca

I never get any mail and Monday there were three pieces for me! One was from
sweet Lindaloo who sent me the pinwheel pattern, simultaneously daring me to
enter the swap. So Linda if you send me the swap info, I think my mechanical
engineer, aka Lynzoid my DT (Darlling Teen), can help me. Was the paper you
used card stock weight? We certainly enjoyed all the kitties. I've been
thinking of collecting kitty stamps myself so we carefully examined each one.
Such fun. Thank you so much Linda. Be expecting a surprise in the mail
yourself. I'm not saying how soon cuz this heat makes me sloowwwwww.

Subject: RS: TAN requesting customers to hurry up
I received my monthly newsletter from a stamp store I frequent in the MPLS
area.
"Please Note: We would like to address our most frequent
complaint...employees asking people to make their purchases prior to
closing time. Approximately 10
minutes to closing time employess will request customers to begin moving to
the
register. Employees still have much work to complete after our stated
closingt
time. Please be aware that employees are on a schedule and we appreciate
coop-
eration in allowing the business to close at the stated time. Thanks."
I don't know about you, but I wouldn't think of harrassing customers to
hurry up and
get done by 5. We all run a little late in getting to destinations and
sometimes need
an extra minute.
I won't be shopping there anymore. I guess if I would have this many
customers
shopping at the last minute, I maybe would extend my shop hours!

Subject: RS: Sherri's SSS (Long)
I have the most wonderful, superb, awesome SSS in the whole wide world!!
She sent me the most awesome package. I have a couple of clues to her
identity but it is to hard to figure out and I don't think I want to
even try yet. I do know she is a Very Sweet person!!!
My package came and the secretary put in the DH's desk. As soon as I
walked in the room and saw it I knew what it was! I went into her
office and said "Guess what I have. A package from my Stamping Secret
Sis." She immediately cleared a place on her work table so I could open
it. I laughed and asked her if she wanted me to open there. "YES", was
her reply!
So what before my eyes did I see:
A card in a translucent envy. A pretty kitty with a watering can on
white card stock that has fine pink lines on it. She is layered on
crimped pink paper and the card says, "Take Time to enjoy life's little
pleasures." Inside the new Hero Arts Word prints "From the heart" is
stamped. Over it is layered pink mulberry and a Friends Forever stamp
plus a personal not on pink paper. A beautiful card that mere words
alone can't describe.
A beautiful pink case to carry my supplies. (perfect for camp next week)
Stamps - Stampendous - little bear girl pulling a wagon of puppies.
MOMR - Summertime is rubbertime
MOMR - Artist palette Handmade stamp
These are great and I love them, secretary loved art
palette as she is an artist. Too bad its mine!
Rubber Stamp Tack Pin - This is so cute I have never seen one before,
we both went crazy over it.
Glitter - Ultra fine in green, pink and yellow pastels
I only had white, these are so pretty and glittery.
Colorbox Cat's Eye - Turquoise, a color I don't have!
Glitter - I love glitter... Makeover, Baby Safari and Easter
I've been meaning to make some shaker cards now is my chance.
Pink Tulle Netting
Tulip Paper Paint - Red and Green I haven't used this before, looks fun!
Glitter Glue Pens - Red, Silver, Gold, Purple, and Green - Cool
Ribbon - 7 different pastels and white
Envy's - Clear Translucent ones, I have been dying for these ever
since I received your card in one. Thanks, thanks, thanks!
Gift Bags - Translucent with gifts and confetti on them
Paper, Paper, Paper - Green, Confetti, white and paper for envy's PLUS
some 3D style plastic sheets (please, some one tell me the best way
to use this so I don't ruin it)
And a Pottery Tea set (how did you know I collect these, I didn't
tell you that:)) It is a flower garden set with a watering can pot
and 4 little "clay" pots for cups. It is so cute!!!
SSS, you out did yourself, was this my whole 6 months in one package. I
am very pleased and awe-struck at your gift. I wish I knew who you were
so that I could thank you better. I can't wait to see what else you
have in store for me, your cards are beautiful and I know you are too!
Sherri :~)
