Subject: RS: TAN: A Story to Live By.... Inspirational
A friend sent this to me, and I thought a number of y'all would enjoy it.....
A Story To Live By
by Ann Wells (Los Angeles Times)
My brother-in-law opened the bottom drawer of my sister's bureau
and lifted out a tissue-wrapped package. "This," he said, "is
not a slip. This is lingerie." He discarded the tissue and handed
me the slip. It was exquisite; silk, handmade and trimmed with
a cobweb of lace. The price tag with an astronomical figure on it was still
attached. "Jan bought this the first time we went to New York, at least 8 or
9 years ago. She never wore it. She was saving it for a special occasion.
Well, I guess this is the occasion." He took the slip from me and put it on
the bed with
the other clothes we were taking to the mortician. His hands lingered on the
soft material for a moment, then he slammed the drawer shut and turned to me.
"Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Every day you're alive is a
special occasion."
I remembered those words through the funeral and the days that
followed when I helped him and my niece attend to all the sad chores that
follow an unexpected death. I thought about them on the plane returning to
California from the Midwestern town where my sister's family lives. I thought
about all the things that she hadn't seen or heard or done. I thought about
the things that she had done without realizing that they were special.
I'm still thinking about his words, and they've changed my life. I'm
reading more and dusting less. I'm sitting on the deck and admiring the view
without fussing about the weeds in the garden.
I'm spending more time with my family and friends and less time in
committee meetings. Whenever possible, life should be a pattern of experience
to savor, not endure. I'm trying to recognize these moments now and cherish
them.
I'm not "saving" anything; we use our good china and crystal for every
special event-such as losing a pound, getting the sink unstopped, the first
camellia blossom.
I wear my good blazer to the market if I feel like it. My theory is if I
look prosperous, I can shell out $28.49 for one small bag of groceries without
wincing.
I'm not saving my good perfume for special parties; clerks in hardware
stores and tellers in banks have noses that function as well as my party-going
friends'.
"Someday" and "one of these days" are losing their grip on my
vocabulary. If it's worth seeing or hearing or doing, I want to see and hear
and do it now. I'm not sure what my sister would have done had she known that
she wouldn't be here for the tomorrow we all take for granted. I think she
would have called family members and a few close friends. She might have
called a few former
friends to apologize and mend fences for past squabbles. I like to think she
would have gone out for a Chinese dinner, her favorite food. I'm guessing-I'll
never know.
It's those little things left undone that would make me angry if I knew
that my hours were limited. Angry because I put off seeing good Friends whom I
was going to get in touch with-someday. Angry because I hadn't written
certain letters that I intended to write-one of these days. Angry and sorry
that I didn't tell my husband and daughter often enough how much I truly love
them. I'm trying very hard not to put off, hold back, or save anything that
would add laughter and luster to our lives.
And every morning when I open my eyes, I tell myself that it is special.
Every day, every minute, every breath truly is...a gift from God.

Stacie,
Pigment ink is on a foam pad and is nice and juicy and stays wet =
longer so it is perfect for embossing.
Dye ink is on a felt pad and dries quickly. It is perfect for =
anything that you aren't going to emboss because it dries so quickly. =
You can color your image or stamp other images very soon after stamping =
without fear of smudges.
Watercolor or Outliner pads are permanent ink that takes the place =
of embossing. You can use watercolors without the colors mixing. =
Wherever the stamped line is acts as a barrier to the color.

Okay. I give up. It's quite evident that no amount of pleading that we
keep from beating each other will bring about a change in attitude.
There is evil on this list and to quote Diane, I can smell the ovens.
Whip the snot out of each other. Show your stuff. Have at it. Fight,
bitch, complain, snarl and bite. How far are you people willing to take
this? When is enough enough?
This diatribe will continue until someone stops talking and since I can
see I've been talking to the walls, it will be me. Think I'll add more
names to the filter.

Subject: RS: Cascarones
Which are really cascaro'nes (accent over the o) but I'm too lazy to go
look up the ascii code for that and it wouldn't translate right for
everybody anyway.
This is a southwest custom, originating in Mexico I THINK. These are eggs
filled with confetti that you crack on people's heads. Back in the good old
days ladies of the court would make them and fill them with perfume, then
crack them on the heads of their lovers. Sorta like marking territory?
Anyway, you blow out some eggs and you don't even have to work at it all
that much because you've got to have a decent sized hole to get confetti
inside the egg so might as well make a bigger one to begin with. So blow
'em out and wash and dry them real good.
Then fill them with confetti, cover over the hole however you want (I
personally put bands of wondertape around my eggs covering the holes, then
embossed the tape with sparkly black). Then decorate. You CAN stamp eggs, I
find it easiest to use unmounted stamps and do NOT mount them, but rather
sort of gently mold it around the egg.
Eggs can be embossed, too. They retain heat so be careful touching them
right away. And if you didn't wash and dry them out real good, they'll
smell like, well, like burned eggs. But embossing works great.
Then go find someone good and crack that egg on their head.
This is almost as good as chocolate cake for what ails ya. Nothing like
smashing something you put hours into... and covering people with confetti.
I personally made Elvis ones this year. Face of Elvis on one side, blue
suede shoes (that flocking stuff is cool) on the other. The band of black
glitter EP all around the egg. And the neato keeno Elvis confetti from VLVS.

Subject: RS: Embossing problem
Okay, somebody please explain this:
I embossed, using Colorbox gold pigment pad and PSX clear ink. I've used
both of them before, together and separately, no problem. Tonight I used
them on dark blue cardstock and when I embossed, parts of the image turned
black. I didn't heat it for a long time, just long enough to melt. I
tried a couple times using different stamps and it happened each time. But
when I used the same combination before I didn't have this problem. Does
anyone know what would cause this to happen?

JOY!!
BOOOO HOOOOOO! I received your beautiful butterfly in the mail today - and it
was in pieces! I was heartbroken! But I can see the artistry in the acetate
part of it - it is absolutely gorgeous. I was just sorry that the poor thing's
body couldn't take the post office's abuse! It is very beautiful though, and I
thank you very much for sharing your art!
Hugs,

Kellie, thank you for brightening my day!
Kellie sent me an adorable kitten card! Using lime green cs that was
deckle cut around the edges, she layered a piece of white cs over it.
Using her markers she created a great backround of multi-colored flecks!
In each corner of the white cs are a set of kiddy paw prints...and in the
center of the card is an adorable kitten with a bow on the top of it's head
just sitting there holding a ball of yarn while smiling innocently at you!
Take care and stamp with a light heart!
Her message on the inside..."Wishing you a 'purr'-fect day!"
It was Kellie! Thanks for making it extra special!!!

Awesome card, Carole!!
Carole sent me a beautiful card on burgundy cardstock (my FAVORITE!!) with
wallpaper backgrounds (gold heat emboss around the edges - VERY ELEGANT). The
front has "thinking of you" gold embossed on it. Gorgeous!! Thanks so much.
And thank you for the directions for MS Outlook as well! That's terrific!
Unfortunately, I just found out that I can't use it with AOL...oh well!!
Your kindness is well appreciated!!

Ok I can handle the recipe directions no problem...but what are cascarones???
Dump almost all of the cake batter into the pan. NOT all of it!!! Just
until the pan is about 2/3 full. Put the pan in the oven now and set the
timer for 30 minutes.
Now eat the rest of the batter with a spoon. By the time you're finished
licking the bowl, it's time to check the cake.
Oh yea, this is definitely my kind of recipe! I have printed it out and will
happily report back on how much I'm gonna love it...which I am quite is a lot!
By the way, Janet...thanks for having the brainchild of starting the RS list.
This has been a great source of pleasure and RS education for me and I love
it! Jan (actually, Janet...but only when I'm in trouble which I hope I
never manage to do on this list! I have very thin skin! lol!)

If you look at most molded plastic products, you'll find a small triangle with
number inside it. I believe the clear plastic with a 3 inside the triangle
can be used as shrink plastic.
Many stores and delis sell sandwices in a plastic "box". You know, the ones
with the lid connected on one side that folds over and snaps down. Next time
you get one, wash the plastic, cut off a piece and try shrinking it with your
heat gun.j

Subject: RS: Sara's Grab Bag! Longish
I received my order before I even got the check sent in the mail. Sara
must have ESP (Extraordinary Stamper's Perception)! The corrugated box
that the papers came in will do very nicely for a gift!
The wonderful assortment of papers includes (please forgive the meager
explanations) a light gray mulberry, with different colored strings
throughout. A tan tobacco? paper, a black linen-type with fine gold
tinsel throughout. Two pieces of a dense black mulberry. A black
mulberry with a copper sheen on one side. Two different brown colored
papers. A shiny silver piece. A sample of paper that has a 'wavy'
pattern on it in silver, blue, pink, black..... Pearl-Ex? maybe. A
small, but very rich sample of a black paper with a paisley swirl
pattern on it. Tan banana? paper. A cloudy blue-gray mulberry, really
soft. Navy wallpaper type. A sheet of very fine grained cork, so soft it
almost feels like suade. A sample of a white paper with copper flecks on
it. A terra cotta colored sheet. Several sheet of a gray-blue
'parchment' paper. A sheet of gold cardstock. A sheet of white petal
inclusion paper. A sheet of Vellum. Not sure what this one is.... a
see-thru sheet of patterned shelf paper? similar to a vellum, but very
light weight.... lots of potential. A piece of screen printed? wrapping
paper in a purple and gold printed, very vibrant. A half sheet of fine
black corrugate. Couple sheets of black linen card stock. A couple
sheets of burgundy linen card stock. A sheet of navy linen card stock. A
sheet of 'Barney' purple card stock. A piece of steel gray lace paper.
One sheet each of bright pink and kelly green card stock. A piece of
vibrant turquoise handmade paper. A sheet of green marble linen card
stock. A sheet of light gray heather felt paper. Two sheets of the
finest mulberry paper I have ever seen.... it is a nice soft yellow with
almost a golden sheen. Two sheets each of green and lavendar thermal
change paper... not sure what you really call that, but it changes color
when you touch it. My little goodie bag was loaded with oriental themed
papers and tidbits....fun!
Please forgive me, as I don't know the names of all the different
papers. This was a $15.00 package. Definately will be ordering again.

Hi,
I wonder if I am first on the list to get their May SS gift. Today in
the mail I got a Somerset Studio magazine with a letter that said my SS
gave me a subscription. This is as neat as having a fairy godmother.
Make a wish and there it is!. You are such a great SS. This is the most
beautiful magazine I have ever seen. Now I have to go and decorate some
pots as featured in the magazine.
Thank you again.

I have an idea!! Next time, since we have a lawyer on the list, Why don't you
write up a legal and binding contract in liareze and then when someone screws up
you can lynch them!! Would take care of them screwing up ever again! Heaven
forbid, get rid of those humans who make mistakes. Then, we would have no need
for lawyers.
