Subject: RS: TAN: Airport Security-long
Hi Ginny & All,
You know how in the old movies where the police escort you out of town,
well the last time I visited the US I was escourted out of the
country!!! Just imagine arriving at LAX and the place is swarming with
security, even more than usual, and being greeted - You're travelling
Air NZ Flight ###...Yes...This way please. There were special check-ins,
and ALL our luggage was hand searched not just the xrays. They spent 20
mins trying to get the laminator out of my cabin bag it was so jammed in
with other things and no more room in my bags. Finally they passed our
bags which were then all sealed with special security tape and we had to
go directly to the transit lounges, wernt allowed in the airport proper
and wait 2 hours for the flight.
Finally we are on the plane and able to go. Well they had completely
cleared all the runways (this is LAX remember) and as our plane is
taxi-ing down the runway the whole place is surrounded with police and
security and we have 2 cars escourting us outside each wing.
And we hadnt done anything wrong...Arrived in NZ and everything was
normal on the runways and in the terminals, you'd never have guessed
that it was the Queen of Englands one & only public flight on arrival
here.
Sorry to hear about Tom

No, this is a book with plenty of room for stamping or illustrating.
It's 8.5 x 5.5. I may make it into a bit smaller pages, but not a mini
sized book. I would include in the package the ribbon for binding,
decorative paper for the cover, card board for the cover itself, the
printed pages of the book, that were scored and holes punched for the
binding, along with directions.
Thanks for your responses. Please keep them coming!

Subject: RS: COMM: Grab Bags for SSS and whoever else would like them
Hi there stamping friends. I can make up grab bags for your SSS or for you.
I can make a $15, $20, or $25 grab bag. You must add $3 for shipping. I will
ship out of the country for a little extra in shipping. The stamps are a
mixture of All Night Media, Stampendous, Art Impressions, Holly Pond HIll,
Azadi, and That's All She Stamped, Sweet Impressions, SonLight Impression,
Hippo Heart, Effie Glitzfinger, and Dewey, Inkum, & Howe. I can do the bags
according to themes as well. The following themes are currently available:
Christmas, Bears, Mary Engelbreit, Florals, Halloween, Inspirational,
Country, Landscapes, Under the Sea, Thanksgiving, Borders & Corners, Birthday,
In The House (doors, bathrooms, chair etc.), Hearts, Holly Pond Hill, Tea &
Coffee, Fantasy, Animals, Easter, Wildflower Nestling stamps, Frames, People,
Fantasy, and Odds and Ends. Individual themes are limited, so first some first
served.
I also have some accessory grab bags that may include any of the following:
pigment pads, embossing powders, punches, brayer, chalks, Kaleidacolor pads,
glitter glue, Mini Vivids, Vivid pads, liquid applique, foils, matchbook pads,
dry embossing stencils and stylus, punches, decorative scissors, & markers.
If you want to mix some accessories with your stamps to create a grab bag just
email me and we can work something out.
If the grab bag is for a SSS I will gift wrap each item in the grab bag as an
extra special touch and package it in an attractive manner. I will also
enclose a card explaining that it is from their SS! I will also email you to
let you know exactly when it went out and what was in it.
I take money orders or checks. I look forward to helping you fulfill you SSS
needs or your own stamping needs.

Subject: RS: More Zip Code Information
What the last four digits of the 9-digit zip contain are specific street and
block information. So, if one customer was at 301 E. Main, and another at 401
E. Main, they would have different 9-digit zip codes . . . probably by one or
two digits (it varies depending on how long the streets are!).
So while it doesn't pinpoint your exact home, it does put it in the right
block--which makes it very easy to sort when it gets to the local post office
doing the deliveries!

That takes, I believe, 11 or 12 digits. So they do scan further.
The process will bar code a mail piece to the point where it is
automatically sorted into delivery order. Then trays are loaded
for the driver in the order that s/he will put them in the
mailboxes. Anything that isn't compatable with this system is
handled by exception and that always takes longer.

We got these types of calls ALL THE TIME when I worked at an answering
service. One guy kept calling the Exxon switchboard after hours and
requesting we patch him to "102880".. which is AT&T's operator-assisted
long distance call line. One of our newbie ops fell for it one night and
the &*^%** placed a TWO HOUR OVERSEAS CALL. I hadn't heard of the number
sequence in the above message, maybe that command is specific to that phone
system. But anyway, the warning is a good one.
Oh, and if you answer the phones at an office, beware of the "We service
your copier and we need the model number" calls. You will shortly receive a
case of unwanted, really cr*ppy copier toner, and be BILLED for it. These
people target larger offices, where someone in accounting is likely to
think "Well, SOMEONE ordered it" and just pay the bill.

Updates to a website doesn't make it unaccessible, because they
serve the old page to you until the new page is completely up.
At most there would be a 1 or 2 second break as the system
directory is updated. So if you pressed reload it would come
down. You may have problems with links if the person updating
doesn't know what they are doing and uploads the files in the
wrong order.
I have been updating and using on line systems for over 20 years

Subject: RS: RE: Specta Tissue Paper - What I do with it.
HI! This is my favorite way of making watercolor backgrounds. You mist a
piece of cardstock, (glossy makes dull colors, flat makes bright colors). You
rip different colors of tissue paper up and lay it on the wet paper. Then you
mist the whole thing. Let dry, and then peel off the tissue paper. Save the
tissue paper to gule down on cardstock to make backgrounds. Use the cardstock
to make beautiful backgrounds a al watercolors. Does this make sense? Just
keep playing with it till you find what colors blend well, and so on and so
on. The more you play with it, the more fun you'll have. I know I'm not
explaining this very well, but just e-mail me with any questions.
Have Fun!

Subject: Re: RS: TAN: Airport Security-funny
A simliar thing happened to an uncle of mine back in the 60's. He was drunk
and joked about hijacking a plane to Cuba. He was put in jail for a few days
while the checked him out. It was a scandal in our family. No it seems kind of
fun but at the time it wasn't. I'm sure your DH's coworker will not make this
mistake again.

Hi All,
Mt Dh, who had been out of town on biz since Sunday, just called me from
the Minneapolis airport. He called to tell me he wouldn't be in at the
reported time because his co-worker was arrested at the airport.
Seems Jon, a UK citizen, made a smart, funny remark about how the bag he
was checking was filled with guns and ammo. Or something to that effect.
Tom and Jon were in a lounge drinking a few beers before the flight and
were approched by two armed officers. They took both Jon and Tom into
the airport police office and interogated Tom. Jon, who was the real
offender, is at this time, getting strip searched!
Just wanted to let you know that the crack down on security at your
airports is very real. They don't take anything "lightly". Since Jon is
NOT a US citizen, and it is a federal crime to make such jokes, he faces
deportation along with whatever else the crimes is punishable by. And
from what Tom says, they are not joking with Jon. They are very serious.
So, don't make those jokes at the airport! Tom may not be in tonight,
they may hold them overnight!

Subject: RS: Joseph's coat advice
Hi
I've been trying to get a bunch of Joseph's coat cards done, but am running
into a problem. I can't get the black to totally cover the colors underneath.
I'm using glossy card stock, and have used either Adirondack dye based rainbow
pads or LePlumes to color the first layer. The stamping and embossing parts
are fine, but I can't seem to totally cover with the black ink. I am using a
black dye based ink pad to do this as well. I have been applying the ink pad
directly to the card stock, as it doesn't cover AT ALL if I use my brayer.
I've waited for each layer to dry and continue to apply more black and then
buff. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Kath

I live near Notre Dame, and the Goodyear blimp makes regular appearances at

Now you have another blimp fact to add to your collection!

Subject: RS: shrinkin' shelf-liner..
well.. I've resisted even reading about this thus far. Jhone brought me a
bit of shelf-liner other week, today I read lynette's note about it, dug out
the somerset, looked it up there, and decided what the heck.. lets melt some
of this stuff.
This stuff has GOT to be toxic! The smoke alarm went off, so I shut the
door to the back hall where it lives.. went to open some windows.. it's
60ish, I'd live. course, the painters from hell have me foiled now.. they
broke the catches on the screens so I can't open the windows from the bottom
or the cats will get out..(and my inlaws were here last night on a
pass-through visit and my FIL let one of the cats out and didn't even
notice, so hour or so later I'm out wandering the neighborhood in the dark
tryin' to find a de-clawed inside cat that really would prefer to be an
indoor/outdoor cat so once he's out is reluctant to BE found, specially when
he's had an hour's head start.. oh.. did I mention he's black? did find
him... he's also kind of stoopid.. but I don't want to DO that again today!)
and they're painted shut at the top so I can't open 'em there either.. so I
turned on the ceiling fan and melted the stuff some more.. it didn't shrink
very much.. is it spozed to? perhaps I didn't cook it enough.. but.. there
was smoke! I was afraid it was gonna alla sudden go POOF! maybe I decided
to start with too big a hunk, but it said was gonna shrink... it's a little
interesting.. if I wasn't convinced it was gonna kill me, I'd try another
piece.. but like I told libby just a sec ago, I think I'ma put some shoes on
and go do some shoppin' while the house fan spreads this smoke around a
bit.. maybe I'll.. um.. get some more of this shelf stuff..
somerset said to mix up all kinds of ep's and then save 'em in seperate tub
labeled "mixed stuff" or somesuch.. do I really wanna do that??

Subject: RS: TAN: A Real Bad Week
I guess I just need to write because I've just about had one of the
worst bad hair weeks in history. Let's see, last Saturday, Valentine's
Day the order I had place 1 1/2 weeks earlier with the Disney Online
Catalog for DH PoohGram was never going to arrive. I got a postcard
from them at 3:30 in the afternoon telling me they were out of stock.
Then on Tuesday I got a box from the US Postal Service. In it was this
wonderful piece of art work (art work did I say) well if you can call a
mangled, totally destroyed Global Priority Envelope that had been sent
two week earlier for a swap to our neighbor to the north. Fortunately I
had some extra cards I had done for that swap and only needed to do 3
more cards and I got the package out again on Wednesday Morning first
thing. Then we come to yesterday. DH and I will be married 25 years at
the end of April. We've been planning a trip to Disney World since we
went on our Honeymoon there. I wanted everything to be perfect. Then I
found out Disney was going to be launching a cruise ship while we were
going to be at WDW. WOW what a great way to end a 2nd honeymoon with a
cruise besides DH needed to get as far away from phones and computer
hook-ups as possible and being in the middle of the ocean was the
answer. And then lo and behold Disney burst my balloon and sent my
travel agent a fax to the affect that they would be pushing the
inaugaural sailing of the ship back over three months to August 1998 and
they would offer me 25% discount for rebooking the trip. Well needless
to say my anniversary is in April not August and a 25% discount then
even though its money is worth diddly to me in August. I called Disney
Cruise Line Travel and asked what other choice I had, none basically
except to cancel the whole thing. I was so pis--- off that I did the
thing most natural to me I started to cry. Anyway, they've decide that
I could add more days on to my trip to WDW, that I don't have to cancel
the whole thing but my travel agent had to make all the arrangements.
The thing is I know I'm going to WDW but the thing I was looking forward
to more was being on that brand spankin new ship with all kinds of
innovations. So here I sit trying to figure out now if I really want to
go at all. Didn't even look at e-mail yesterday..just collected all my
messages, now I have 438 to go through, and I did have a great mail day
yesterday but that will be in a happier post later today. Everyone keep
smiling. Thanks for letting me just write my thoughts down. Letty
