  290. Isn't my MIL the greatest!!!

  293. The Americans and Russians at the height of the arms race realized that
  294. if they continued in the usual manner they were going to blow up the
  295. whole world.
  296.  
  297. One day they sat down and decided to settle the whole dispute with one
  298. dog fight. They would have five years to breed the best fighting dog in the
  299. world and which ever side's dog won would be entitled to dominate the
  300. world. The losing side would have to lay down its arms.
  301.  
  302. The Russians found the biggest meanest Doberman and Rottweiler females
  303. in the world and bred them with the biggest meanest Siberian wolves.
  304. They selected only the biggest and strongest puppy from each litter,
  305. killed his siblings, and gave him all the milk. They used steroids and
  306. trainers
  307. and after five years came up with the biggest meanest dog the world had
  308. ever seen. Its cage needed steel bars that were five inches thick and
  309. nobody could get near it.
  310.  
  311. When the day came for the dog fight, the Americans showed up with a
  312. strange animal. It was a nine foot long Dachshund. Everyone felt sorry
  313. for the Americans because they knew there was no way that this dog could
  314. possibly last ten seconds with the Russian dog.
  315.  
  316. When the cages were opened up, the Dachshund came out of it's cage and
  317. slowly waddled over towards the Russian dog. The Russian dog snarled
  318. and leaped out of it's cage and charged the American dachshund. But,
  319. when it got close enough to bite the Dachshund's neck, the Dachshund
  320. opened it's mouth and consumed the Russian dog in one bite. There was
  321. nothing
  322. left at all of the Russian dog.
  323.  
  324. The Russians came up to the Americans shaking their heads in disbelief.
  325. "We don't understand how this could have happened. We had our best
  326. people working for five years with the meanest Doberman and Rottweiler
  327. females

  392. What do you guys use to adhere vellum to cardstock?  I tried double-sided
  393. tape, tape runner, Sailor glue, and finally had to just adhere under what I
  394. had stamped on top of the vellum and let the rest just hang.  The cardstock
  395. is a very dark blue if that's any help on telling me what to use.  I just
  396. couldn't find anything that didn't show!

  415. I got my one stamp swap! Thanks Lisa for a wonderful job....sorting 85 
  416. must have been something!
  417. I got:
  418. 1.April Tripp used white cs sponged with green alyered with white tissue 
  419. edged in green and topped with 1 large floral heart [PSX?]. Very pretty!
  420. 2/Karen Mellinger used white gloss cs that she masked a square in the 
  421. middle of. Thera are pink and turq. radiating form the center out. The 
  422. white block in the middle has a Happy Birthday stamped with a rainbow 
  423. pad.Very colorful!
  424. 3.Cindy Fitzgerald brayered blue and pink over white gloss cs. She had 
  425. stamped a feather on it first with clear embossing ink. When you go over 
  426. it with a brayer it leaves an impression! I use this technique alot for 
  427. backgrounds! Then she embossed the same feather in purple glitter over 
  428. the top....very kewl card!!!
  429. 4.
  430. Linda Farrell did a wonderful fairy hiding in tulips in a floral 
  431. flowerpot. Great watercoloring and she lightly lifted the 3 tupils with 
  432. foam tape and glittered the fairy wings. This was layered on peach cs on 
  433. a confetti card! Wow!
  434. 5.Ann Stone did an Acy Duecy stamp if a flamingo dancer embossed in black 
  435. with the rose colored red and the hummingbird green. Everything else was 
  436. black and white! the fan has benn done twice, cut out and layered for a 
  437. neat 3-d look. this image was layered on black on a confetti card.

  484. I wanted to let everyone know that it wasn't someone on this list that
  485. was making me crash - I tracked it down tonight, and it turns out
  486. another list that I sub to has a member who was using the year 2098
  487. instead of 1998!  My computer was flipping out and crashing every time
  488. she posted - 3 times today!  I wrote her an email to let her know. 
  489. Anyway, several of you were concerned that it was theirs - and actually
  490. only 2 or 3 of you have your dates off from what I've noticed lately,
  491. and none of them have bothered my system so far.  So any way, just a
  492. gentle reminder to check your posting dates - 
  493. BTW, all the news lately about the year 2000 and what will happen to
  494. computers - does it scare anyone else??

  539. Carson.  Just an update on dinner for Saturday....I've called the
  540. Outback in Torrance(5 minutes from Convention Center) they will not take
  541. any reservations.  Told me I could call early in the day and they would
  542. try to save us a table.  So I think we're back to square one for
  543. Saturday.  I can go ahead and make reservations for the Alpine Inn
  544. (German food) or you can let me know what types of  meals you like and I
  545. can find restaurants and send out a list and put it to a vote.

  569.     I didn't have much success with rubbing them on with my fingers because
  570. I didn't have much control over exactly where they went.  I use my stylus
  571. and a letter opener and eyeshadow sponges.  This gives me the control I
  572. want.  I joined Ant Judy's rub-on swap, so I can hardly wait to see what
  573. everyone else did with there's.  I may be completely off base on what I did
  574. with mine.  I do tend to work myself to death over nothing sometimes.

  620. your little organizer book and your order will go into

  623. In case you want to know how I did the cover: I used Petal-Points
  624. to smoosh calico colors onto glossy sticker paper, then rubbed
  625. off the surface with a paper towel and set it aside. In CorelDraw-7,
  626. I typed "Meow" and "Purrr" using a font called "Ogilvie." I added 
  627. a little kitty pawprint after each word, then grouped them, tilted
  628. them 45 degrees and duplicated again and again, until I had filled
  629. enough area to make the book cover. (Please let me know if you
  630. think this word make a good wordprint rubberstamp, k?) I printed 
  631. this out onto plain white paper with my HP Office Jet. Then I used 
  632. my Canon copier to copy the wordprint onto the glossy cardstock I 
  633. painted earlier. (I didn't want to risk smearing with the inkjet.) I
  634. then glued it to the book and heat embossed with clear EP. I think 
  635. it looks pretty kewl, hope you like it! This was a fun book to make. :)

  696. 2.Kim Burkett did a frame, very colorful lime green checkerboard with red 
  697. hearts in the corners. The center had 3 wonderful Laurel Burch cats done 
  698. with a rainbow pad. Loved it!
  699. 3. unknown: used white cs for sampler with Happy birthday clown set from 
  700. SU. Nice....with it had a name on it!
  701. 4. Eileen deMars did a great sampler stamped in blue on white cs. She cut 
  702. out the large piece and the purple layer underneath showed through. There 
  703. is confetti hugs & kisses, purple punched heart , pieces of mulberry 
  704. paper and a great piece of gathered organdy ribbon with beads in the 
  705. middle! All of this layered on hot pink cs. The inside says..."lovable, 
  706. snuggable hugs to you!"

  727. for the first day and then late that first after noon go on to Cape Cod for a
  728. weeks vacation.  Well, he suggestion we leave home early, 3-4AM!!!  (New York

  731. a different trip, but I am almost more excited to meet list members that in

  828. into stamping when I made a little book with the things I liked about
  829. him - character traits as well as little things like his very
  830. masculine hands. . .   From what you've said, your husband is
  831. thoughtful, he's good with his hands, he's interested in what you do .

  850. Here are some inexpensive idea's for Valentines Day. Construction
  851. Paper, crayons, markers : with these tools you can make your own
  852. decorations, Cards, etc. If you cut out small hearts out of the
  853. construction (or any paper for that matter), write sayings on them.
  854. Poems, lyrics to love songs, little IOU's for your significant other
  855. (like doing the dishes, making their favorite dinner, good for
  856. ?????.) Take these hearts, fold them in half. Buy a bag of balloons,
  857. blow up the balloons, and place a heart in each balloon. Place these
  858. balloons in a room with the door closed, in a car at work, or while
  859. they are sleeping. Make a card, string a needle on thread, or string.
  860. Tape the string to the card. Tell the person in the card that they
  861. have to pop the balloons to get goodies inside.

  902. Here is an idea that I have actually used and that  went over big with
  903. my husband.  The idea is to make a sort of "bead" curtain for a
  904. doorway ... only instead of beads, you use paper hearts about 2"-3"
  905. across. You will need:
  906.  
  907.  * colored paper (shades of red, pink, and purple) for the hearts
  908.  * scissors
  909.  * Scotch tape
  910.  * Thread or some sort of lightweight ribbon (or even long strip of
  911. paper) to fasten the hearts to.
  912.  
  913. 1. Cut out your hearts (draw around a heart-shaped object of the right
  914. size or fold the paper in half and cut).
  915.  
  916. 2. Write little sayings on the hearts, like on those little candy
  917. hearts. Use your pet names for each other, lines from your favorite
  918. songs, quotes from your favorite movies, whatever you find romantic.
  919.  
  920. 3. Tape the hearts to your thread, ribbon, or paper strips, then
  921. attach the string of hearts to the top of the doorway. I used thread,
  922. but it tangles! To avoid this problem, use ribbon or paper, or if you
  923. must use thread, tape it to the top of the doorway first, and then
  924. tape the hearts to it. Saves lots of aggravation.  That's it! It's
  925. charming and romantic.

  932. There are two books I can recommend for not only Valentine's Day ideas
  933. but for ideas for romance all year long. They are 1001 Ways to Be
  934. Romantic and 1001 More Ways to Be Romantic by J.P. Godek. There
  935. are many, many ideas that don't cost much money and some that could
  936. add up. Best of all, whether you use one of the ideas or not, it gets
  937. your romantic creativity going. For those who don't have much
  938. creativity, it could give you that idea that would mean so much for
  939. your significant other so check them out! Romance is always
  940. appreciated whether you're male or female! Don't spend time
  941. complaining about your mate/significant other if you're not doing your
  942. part either!

  974. can actually get quite suggestive or quite tame. You would be

  986. expense. One year (no special occasion) I wrote out 100+ reasons why I
  987. love my husband on little pieces of paper. Get creative with this--it
  988. can be "the way you brush your teeth" or "your big green eyes." Then I
  989. folded up the papers and shoved each on in a balloon, blew them up,
  990. tied them, and filled his car with them while he was at work. The sign
  991. I put on his window read, "pop the balloons and read all the reasons I
  992. love you." He loved it! Of course, he was late getting home from work
  993. that night!
