very very very very very good...in fact, i've been reading them since the
very beginning and am one of the few who was flipping out when i found out
they were going to make them into a tv show...the plot lines are majorly
different with a few small exceptions...but they are excellent books.

Wow, Irene!
You're analyzing this pretty deeply!
I just thought they showed Hubble's wife to make it clear to us that 1)
it WAS Nasedo that Liz was kissing and 2) that Nasedo did kill Hubble's
wife (as if there was any doubt about that). Like the flash could have
included any of his many victims, but the one we'd be likely to recognize
would be Sheila Hubble since such a big deal was made of her death in a
previous ep.
Very interesting theories though. Why did he kill Sheila? Hubble wasn't
chasing him yet, so what kind of threat did the Hubbles pose to him?
Unless he just wanted their car?
It's possible these questions will never be answered, because the writers
don't go into the stories as deeply as we do!
As the series continues, someone will eventually write a book analyzing
and explaining all the eps, as has been done for the X-Files, and then
we'll know!

I'm currently on the sixth book. If you like the show,
or like *really* love it, I wouldn't recommend reading
the books if you don't want a different perspective on
the characters. They're not the same people on the
show. Isabel is much more shallow, Alex is much more
butch, and Max is... blonde! It's kind of disturbing.
I am now totally devoted to the show, so I read the
books. It's my way of filling space in between
episodes. I like to the characters in the situations
that the books present. I don't know... if you're
looking for stories at the quality of the show, I
would recommend FanFic over the books. Seriously.
The books introduce new alien characters and don't
have anything to do with the plot of the show. The
first book has situations similar to the pilot, but
even then not exactly. I don't know what to say about
this really. I suffer through the books because it's
ROSWELL. That doesn't mean it makes them any better.
Bottom line: I pay $5.00 a book. You shouldn't.
It's just not worth it.

Roswell Renewed - Official Word from Katims' Office
May 12, 2000Posted by Fehrocious
It's official!!! The WB has purchased 13 episodes of Roswell and will keep
airing it on Monday nights this fall.
London2LA, Kdberg, Lyoness and myself just got back from Jason Katims'
office, where we were invited to a screening of Destiny. The legalities were
just finalized and it's now official!
The producers, writers, cast and crew would like to thank the fans for all
their support and all their efforts paid off!

Wow that's great. But I'm just wondering why they were only picked up for
thirteen episodes. That's not usually how it works. I mean, I know they had
22 eps. this year, but if a show is picked up again and it is positive,
isn't it costomary to order more episodes than thirteen. Thirteen episodes
is what the usually give a freshman show to see how it will do. Anyway. I
still am thrilled that the show was picked up, I'm not sure what I would
have done if it had just ended how I think it is supposed to end on Monday.
Can't wait till then.

Thanks for posting this! And now I feel better that we can keep the list(s)
going, and have something to look forward to next season. :)
It *is* interesting that only 13 episodes were slated for renewal, but not
surprising. Considering the show was on the ropes as it was, the WB is
probably keeping their options open for the second half of next season. If
some other show comes along, that the WB feels is better, they could bump
Roswell for it. Otherwise, if Roswell remains good and keeps the ratings up,
hopefully a final 9 episodes will be ordered.
I suspect this is probably a fan-based decision, and not a ratings decision.
Perhaps since the ratings finally grew a bit when the show went to Mondays
(and Monday slots are a hard spot (but not as bad as Fridays)), coupled with
the fan[atical] mailings to the WB prompted their decision to renew.
In any case, I'm sure we can all rest much easier now. :)

Subject: [roswell] The White Room
Welp, I usually don't go on and on about specific episodes, but I must make
an exception. Perhaps I should start doing this all the time? (That is to
say, that I'm about to bore you with a long drawn out analysis of the show
:-)
Okay, this is one of those episodes I had to watch again and again. This is
saying a lot for me, because I'm not the type of person to watch or listen
to anything over and over. To me, if it's good, I like to not ruin it for
myself by watching something or listening to some song so many times that
the thrill and enjoyment of it finally goes away. And as such, I still get
excited when old shows or songs I hear are aired.
I haven't heard of anyone stating that they didn't like this episode. I
myself give it a 9.5 out of 10 -- only for the fact that we've been deprived
of the parental units and the ridiculous notion that 3-4 persons could even
get close to this place, much less outside some skimpy fence with no guards
to speak of.
I can't say I'm a Roswell Crash Conspiracy fanatic, but that whole area is
locked down so tight, that people can be killed on the spot and there's no
law or government that they'd have to answer to for doing so. Not to mention
the motion detectors and who knows what else...
So putting that aside for a second, let's start with the teaser portion of
the show. Max being asked what the name of his home planet is, is funny and
sad in it's own way because Max really doesn't know. Earth is the only home
he's ever known, yet a dangerous prison to the whole Pod Squad at the same
time.
The second orb: some people have asked where this was located, but I assume
Max still had it after Valenti gave it back to him. It's unlikely Max
allowed Michael to hold on to it, after the Topolsky fiasco. So the agents
must have picked it up at Max's house.
Speaking of Topolsky, I thought perhaps she was still alive somewhere buried
in some FBI hideaway. It didn't occur to me the first time I watched the
eppy, that Nasedo was most likely referring to Topolsky when he said that
the only female agent was killed. I don't guess we're to assume Nasedo posed
as one of the agents, and killed her himself.
Regarding our favorite (?!) character Tess, once again she didn't do a whole
lot for me, and still sticks out like a sore thumb with the rest of the Pod
Squad. Did anyone else notice she lost her American accent when she saw
Nasedo-Agent and said, "It's you!"? It appears she'll be in next season. I
doubt they'd kill her off in Destiny.
Isabel/Kathi really shined through in both M2TM and TWR (as well as Toy
House). It's not often we see incredibly drop-dead beautiful actresses that
are also *good* actresses. As someone else mentioned, the camera work was
excellent all the way around, especially during the dream-walking states.
The unfocused narrow camera shots allowed us to see how claustrophobic,
weird and terrifying it must have been for Max in the white room.
Also, I like the way her character has really grown since the beginning of
the season. She used to be just any other girl, with a normal life and
friends -- even a bit shallow, and now with the realities of who she is and
the danger they are in has forced her to grow.
Liz, Maria and Alex got pretty little air time, but that's okay. Not every
episode can be equal to each character, and I wouldn't want it to. As with
most new series, many of the episodes this season have been a 'character
episode' -- that is, one that revolves around a particular character so that
the audience can get involved by getting to know the character and his/her
past.
But I did feel a bit for Liz during the first act, when Maria and Alex went
straight to Michael and Isabel, respectively, all hugs ensued, and Liz had
no one now. The only thing she could do was confront 'the other woman' and
try to get some information out of Tess.
Finally, Nasedo. He makes a great 'evil' character you can like. Is he
really dead? He was shot at least once, probably twice, and we saw him go
down. I don't think we're to believe that Tess or Nasedo-agent forced the
image of himself being shot or going down. (In other words, I don't think it
was a trick.) But we didn't see him beyond this. What I don't understand is
why Pierce (Pearce?) didn't take better notice of the fact that 'Madison' (I
think that's what the black agent's name was) wasn't Madison. He had become
so engrossed in Max, that he didn't realize that he had another alien on his
hands. And it appears that Pearce could be the primary antagonist for the
next season.
One last thing about TWR: Some people mentioned that they didn't like the
way the storyline revealed that the Pod Squad are just about as human as
they could get, and their powers are in fact of advanced human nature. I
thought this was a great twist myself, because I too would like to believe
the human race is capable of SO much more than what we current believe and
can understand. Without getting too philosophical here, it's hard for me to
believe that this incredibly intelligently designed universe is arbitrary,
and that living creatures are at least one facet into understanding the
greater mysteries of it all.
Okay, the promo for Destiny. I watched this in slow-mo and here are my
thoughts on what we saw:
Apparently Max finds an agent in Valenti's home, and he punches him. (I
think this because I'm pretty sure that was Kyle's back to the right side).
So the partnership with Valenti must be secure for the time being. I doubt
the Sheriff will have a job anymore, and it certainly puts his character in
jeopardy. We may see him get snuffed out in Destiny as well.
We also see Pearce in a uniform, which looks like the deputy's again. Looks
like he'll continue to play that part, or could he possibly, even
temporarily, take over the position of Sheriff as well if in fact Valenti is
fired (or now on the run for his own life)?
We also see Max standing behind Pearce with that sharp device Pearce was
going to use on Max. Is it just a dream, or does Max get to confront him in
this way -- even hurt Pearce? I doubt Max would, even after what he went
through...
And we also see something about them seeing some kind of ghost of their
mother. I looked closely at this apparition, but it was hard to tell whether
it was Diane Evans or someone else. We saw how Max could allow us to see the
dead when Liz's grandmother died, so it certainly could be her. If it was
Diane, does that mean the special unit has already killed of their parents?
I think this is quite possible, since we've heard that the WB wants less
teen drama and more sci-fi. That could help divorce the characters of their
teen status, if they're on the run without parents. Pure speculation,
however.
Well, that's all for now. After the last couple of episodes, I'm wondering
how Destiny will hold up in comparison...

It varies from show to show. Buffy only had 12 episodes it's first season,
and it was picked up for only 13 episodes initially for the second season.
Joss Whedon had to work on those 13 episodes with the idea in mind
that the series could end after the 13 eps (and Spike and Dru were
scheduled to die if the series ended then).

It's supposed to be abandoned; guards might draw attention. Also, the Special
Unit might have limited resources. And/or not want too many people aware of
its existence. You want a bunch of bored guards standing around wondering
what's going on inside? Or knowing, and telling someone in a bar?
Now, a gate made out of depleted uranium -- jeez! Maybe that's why they can't
afford motion detectors.
Bonus points to the show for _using_ the phrase "depleted uranium". I'm not
sure I find the stated mechanism is plausible (a heavy atom is still really,
really light) but since telekinesis is magic anyway I guess they can tack on
any limitation they want, as long as they're consistent.

First orb, to the audience... I still sort of hope it's a rock, that Nacedo
swapped it with the original while Max and Liz were sleeping.

We, now, are capable of more than earlier humans would believe. Tools and
high technology are wonderful things. No doubt we'll do even more in the
future. But psychic powers emanating from the existing human cortex, without
enabling technology? Bah. IMO. Not to mention the conservation laws.

I'm actually okay with both of those problems... there just wasn't any
time left in the episode to show the parents... and the government
place was supposed to be abandoned, so it had to look abandoned.
My problem was the fact that an agent was killed on the grounds

they didn't go on high security alert or something?! Uh-huh... sure!
Very good episode! Can't wait until next week!
And I think I must be the only person who doesn't hate Tess.
I didn't really care for her at first, but she is growing on me. But
now that I've found out her power, I have more questions about
her. Did she manipulate the pod squad into remembering them
coming out of the pods together and leaving her behind? And if
so, why?

That sounds promising!
Jason Katims did a chat about a month or so ago and when asked that same
question, he said that were they to be renewed for another season, they
definately would put one out.
I only hope that they don't go the route of the Buffy soundtrack. (Which,
don't get me wrong, I loved!!!) Rather than a collection of songs from
upcoming episodes, I'd like to see (hear! <g>) the songs that set the tone
for key moments in the show. Like Gomez' "We Haven't Turned Around" (from
that final scene in "Heatwave"); Santana/Everlasts'
"Turn Your Lights On" from, well, from the same episode, actually, (first
scene. . .); and whatever song was playing during the worst of the Max
torture scenes in White Room. That one's still haunting me at the moment. .
. Just to name a few.
There's been some great music. . .
And of course, since it's the theme song, we'll get to hear "Here With Me".
Really, really looking forward to it,

I think this'd be fun to see! I made a suggestion they use any or all of the
Pod Squad. We've had cool Buffy and Angel posters. Roswell'd only be a
natural choice. Let's make sure they realize this!

Majandra for milk mustache poster girl?

Thanks to Beth for tracking this down, and suggesting this campaign!
Majandra stated in a recent interview that that she would love to
do a Milk ad. Below is the url address for submitting feedback to
the "Milk Mustache" website. Beth asks that we all push for getting the
"Roswell"
cast on a milk add, especially now that it has been determined that the
aliens have human bone structures!

Gina you are a ghoddess! Thanks so much for the heart warming picture and url
link to it.
IMHO: Max looks like he's just --soooo-- digging being near her. How
could he
reject her for that lil' blond alien!!
At least I think that was the teaser on the trailer for tonight. I can't wait
for tonight's episode!

everyone,
I hope this goes out okay, I wasn't all that sure what I was supposed to do
to get a letter out to the list. I just wanted to say hi because I am a new
member to the list. I just started watching Roswell recently (my brother got
me into it) and I thought it might be fun to talk to other people about the
show and the characters. So, hi everyone! My name's Jenn by the way
