  63. Thanks to all my volunteers that are going to help prepare some of the
  64. Roswell shooting scripts (that the actors use when filming) for the web
  65. site.
  66.  
  67. The neat thing about the scripts, is that they often times answer questions
  68. or have nifty tidbits we don't get to see for various reasons, such as not
  69. enough time allocated, last minute changes in story lines, etc.
  70.  
  71. I was reading Independence Day earlier, and thought I'd share just a couple
  72. of the cut scenes. Here's a couple of questions answered:
  73.  
  74. Diane and Philip Evans are the names of Max parents (I don't remember if
  75. that was ever mentioned in the show?), Nasedo is the correct spelling, and
  76. yes, it was breath mints (tic-tacs) that he took at the end of the episode.
  77.  
  78. Anyway, I thought I'd share some of the cut scenes with you here, but in the
  79. future, they'll be posted on the web site for you to see.
  80.  
  81. Okay, remember at the end of the third act (typically segmented by the
  82. commercials) after Michael had his confrontation with Hank, and he, Max, and
  83. Isabel talk about it in the jeep? (One cut line from that confrontation, was
  84. Michael telling Hank he spends the Foster money on 'Juggs Magazine.')
  85.  
  86. Here's some cut portions, my comments in brackets[]:

  89. MAX:  You heard what Hubble said. He's a KILLER. A SHAPE SHIFTER.  And he's
  90. out there. He could be ANYONE.  We need to stick together more than ever.
  91.  
  92. MICHAEL:  You're wrong, Max.
  93.  
  94. Michael goes. This time, Max starts after him and it's Isabel who stops Max
  95. and lets him go.
  96.  
  97. ISABEL:  Run away, Michael, that's what you do best.
  98.  
  99. [Camera] On Max and Isabel as they watch Michael go.
  100.  
  101. [Here's the cut scene]:
  102.  
  103. We get the feeling Michael has ben wandering for a while, facing a dark
  104. night of the soul.  And now he's ended up here.
  105.  
  106. Feeling completely abandoned, he raises his arms out and SCREAMS at the sky.
  107.  
  108. MICHAEL:  Where are you?!  Why did you leave me here? WHY?
  109.  
  110. Just then, WIND BEGINS TO BLOW.  A sign from above? Or another rejection?
  111. Michael turns his face up to the sky, forever searching.

  114. Another cut scene from Act Four:
  115.  
  116. MICHAEL: I'll do whatever it takes. I mean, I've thought about it and I want
  117. to... You know, take control of things. And I'm ready to do it, so...

  119. Another beat [as you might have guessed, "beat" means 'short pause' in the
  120. script world]. Now all eyes on Philip.
  121.  
  122. PHILIP:  Come by the office this afternoon. We'll talk. I'd like to know
  123. more about your situation.
  124.  
  125. MICHAEL: (thank you)  This afternoon.
  126.  
  127. [Here's the cut scene]:
  128.  
  129. Then there's a KNOCK at the door.  Philip goes over to answer it. Isabel and
  130. Diane take a seat. Max comes over to Michael.
  131.  
  132. MAX: Can I give you a hand?
  133.  
  134. MICHAEL: Yeah. You can do the bacon.
  135.  
  136. Max and Michael share a smile.
  137.  
  138. EXT. EVANS HOUSE - BACK PORCH - SAME MOMENT
  139. [Ext = External/Outside in the script world]
  140.  
  141. Philip opens the door to find Valenti. They talk privately.
  142.  
  143. VALENTI:  Mr. Evans.
  144.  
  145. PHILIP: (surprised to see him)  Hello, Sheriff.
  146.  
  147. VALENTI:  I understand Michael Guerin is here.
  148.  
  149. PHILIP:  Yes, he is.
  150.  
  151. VALENTI:  I've got to take him to meet with Social Services.
  152.  
  153. PHILIP:  He's not going to be needing that. I'm going to help him look into
  154. emancipation.
  155.  
  156. VALENTI:  Mind if I ask why?
  157.  
  158. PHILIP: Who's going to want a 16-year-old? They can't even find homes for
  159. infants.
  160.  
  161. VALENTI:  Mr. Evans, this is a potentially serious situation you're getting
  162. involved in. His father's clothes were found this morning in the south
  163. desert. Shredded. Still no sign of him. Looking more and more like foul
  164. play.
  165.  
  166. PHILIP: I can't see that the boy could have had anything to do with that.
  167.  
  168. VALENTI:  I gotta warn you about getting involved with this kid. You don't
  169. know him. He's a trouble-maker.
  170.  
  171. PHILIP:  My children trust him. That's good enough for me.
  172.  
  173. VALENTI:  Well, then, I guess you're on your own.
  174.  
  175. Valenti's surprised at Philip standing up for Michael. But he has no choice
  176. than to accept it.
  177.  
  178. Philip closes the door and turns around.  Sees Max has turned and overheard.
  179. Knows his son saw him stand up for Michael. [Camera] Hold on the look
  180. between father and son.

  182.  
  183. The last cut scene is when Michael gets his new apartment. This is right
  184. after the Judge grants Michael a petition for emancipation:
  185.  
  186. INT. MICHAEL'S NEW APARTMENT - DAY
  187. [INT = Internal/Inside in the script world]
  188.  
  189. A modest studio apartment, just around the corner from the Crashdown.
  190. Mostly empty, a tattered couch, a few empty milk crates, stuff that's been
  191. abandoned from the previous tenant.
  192.  
  193. Michael sits on the couch next to his duffel bag that he still hasn't
  194. unpacked. It's hard to look lost in a 10x12 room, but somehow he manages. A
  195. long beat.  Then:
  196.  
  197. The door flings open.  Max, Liz, Maria, Isabel.
  198.  
  199. GANG:  Surprise!
  200.  
  201. MICHAEL: Whoa! What're you guys doin' here?
  202.  
  203. But they rush past him, carrying mop, bucket, cleaning supplies, pizza boxes
  204. and other stuff.
  205.  
  206. ISABEL: We're here to help clean up.
  207.  
  208. MICHAEL:  I kinda like it the way it is.
  209.  
  210. MARIA:  Michael, some of these stains are neither animal, vegetable or
  211. mineral.
  212.  
  213. MAX: This place is so cool.
  214.  
  215. MICHAEL: Two-fifty a month cool.  Man, it was great of your dad to help with
  216. the deposit, but I gotta get a J-O-B.
  217.  
  218. Max and Liz exchange a look.
  219.  
  220. LIZ: I heard you made a pretty mean breakfast the other day. There just
  221. might be something for you at the Crashdown.
  222.  
  223. MICHAEL:  Wow. (then, quickly)  Wait. Does that mean SHE'S going to be my
  224. boss?
  225.  
  226. He means Maria.
  227.  
  228. LIZ: (smiling wickedly)  She's the manager.
  229.  
  230. They all crack up at the irony, suddenly, there's a tiny sound. Almost like
  231. a meow. It IS a meow.
  232.  
  233. MICHAEL: (suspciously)  What's THAT?
  234.  
  235. MARIA:  That is... Sigourney.
  236.  
  237. She pulls out of her back pack a LITTLE TABBY KITTEN.
  238.  
  239. MICHAEL:  Ha.  Funny.
  240.  
  241. LIZ:  She was an orphan.
  242.  
  243. MICHAEL: The lease said no pets.
  244.  
  245. MARIA:  What's one more secret?
  246.  
  247. [Camera] Off all of them as they dig into the pizza, laughing, Michael's new
  248. family. Two chicks, three aliens, and a cat.

  250. [The next scene is when Hank arrives at the Valenti's office].

  602. They're actual shooting scripts... not transcripts or fanfic.  Personally I 
  603. would have loved to have seen the final scene in the script.  I wonder if it 
  604. was filmed and then cut out later, or if it was never filmed at all.

  925. Maria DeLuca looks back at Liz with a worried look on her face.

  927. Liz gets up and rushes out.
  928. "Thank God that was my last class" she thought.
  929. Maria catches up to her in the hall.

  935. "I don't think so" said Maria said.  "Why don't I come over to your house 
  936. early before work, we need to talk."
  937. "Maria, there's nothing to talk about, I'm fine, really."

  940. walked off.
  941. The thing is I'm not fine, Liz thought the only person I want to be with, 
  942. isn't with me.

  944. Max Evans still had another period to go before school was over.  He hasn't 
  945. really been paying attention in his classes either.  Luckily his accounting 
  946. teacher didn't care.  As always, he was thinking of Liz.  When he slowed 
  947. things down between them he didn't think it would be that bad that they would 
  948. still be friends and everything would be okay, but it wasn't.  He and Liz 
  949. hadn't talked for 15 days.  15 days he thought of not talking to Liz, really 
  950. talking.  He missed her so much he could hardly stand it.  I could still be 
  951. with her now, if I never took a step back, but I need to keep reminding 
  952. myself that it's safer this way anyway.

  954. Isabel Evans caught up to Michael Guerin in the hall.  
  955. "Hey Michael"
  956. "Hi Iz" he said.
  957. "Michael, I'm getting even more worried about Max, he's not getting any 
  958. better."
  959. "He isn't?" Michael asks with concern.
  960. "No, he just sits in his room and listens to the Counting Crows, I've never 
  961. seen him like this before, what are we gonna do?"
  962. "I don't know, but I told you she was trouble from day one." Michael said

  964. I really need to get a life, Liz thought as she walked home.  But she 
  965. couldn't stop thinking about Max.  All the good times, everything they 
  966. shared.  She thought about the first time she knew she was in love with him.  
  967. It was when they got in the car accident.  Seeing him lying there, not 
  968. knowing what was going to happen to him, she knew she loved him and no matter 
  969. what she always would.  She held back her tears until she made it home.  Then 
  970. she ran up to her room and cried.

  972. "Maria, she'll know what to do" Isabel thought as she saw Maria walk out of 
  973. school.
  974. "Maria, wait!" Isabel called out.

  1109. organization for putting an ad in Variety magazine from the fans. Here's =
  1110. all the info plus mailing details. Please contribute if you can and keep =

  1115. I talked to Variety today - very wonderful contact, by the way, who is =
  1116. very excited about the whole thing. We have a full page ad reserved for =
  1117. April 6th - this is the Thursday before the show moves to it's new time =
  1118. slot. Think this will be good timing, as we will be heard by the WB, as =
  1119. well as giving the show a little shameless plug for the new time slot. =
  1120. How can the WB not love us for that?  The page we have reserved is the =
  1121. "3rd right hand page of advertising" - which is apparantly a prime =
  1122. location that she should charge extra for, but is waiving it because, =
  1123. well, she just loves us! =20
  1124.  
  1125. The cost for the ad is $2530 - that is for the full page ad in black and =
  1126. white. If we add color, even one dot of it, add on an immediate $3100. =
  1127. So, I'm thinking.....color? What color?  By the way, silver is color. Oh =
  1128. well. =20
  1129.  
  1130. We have two different deadline dates for the ad - one if we do it all =
  1131. ourselves or another one if we decide to take them the bits and pieces =
  1132. and they set it up. If we take them the bits and pieces and let them do =
  1133. it, there is an extra charge, but no more than $100. I have to check =
  1134. into the exact numbers for that - it was all very confusing by that =
  1135. point. If we do it ourselves, we have until April 4th. If we take it to =
  1136. them, we have until April 3rd. Big difference, I know. =20
  1137.  
  1138. If we do create the ad ourselves, it all has to be in Mac format using =
  1139. Photoshop 5. Since I am a PC girl, I can't do this myself, but I'm sure =
  1140. someone can. Let me know. Either way, I'm fine with how we work the ad =
  1141. out - I don't think an extra $100 is all that much to worry about, if we =
  1142. decide to have them to do it, but it's up to you guys. We'll figure it =
