Subject: [roswell] Scripts and stuff
Thanks to all my volunteers that are going to help prepare some of the
Roswell shooting scripts (that the actors use when filming) for the web
site.
The neat thing about the scripts, is that they often times answer questions
or have nifty tidbits we don't get to see for various reasons, such as not
enough time allocated, last minute changes in story lines, etc.
I was reading Independence Day earlier, and thought I'd share just a couple
of the cut scenes. Here's a couple of questions answered:
Diane and Philip Evans are the names of Max parents (I don't remember if
that was ever mentioned in the show?), Nasedo is the correct spelling, and
yes, it was breath mints (tic-tacs) that he took at the end of the episode.
Anyway, I thought I'd share some of the cut scenes with you here, but in the
future, they'll be posted on the web site for you to see.
Okay, remember at the end of the third act (typically segmented by the
commercials) after Michael had his confrontation with Hank, and he, Max, and
Isabel talk about it in the jeep? (One cut line from that confrontation, was
Michael telling Hank he spends the Foster money on 'Juggs Magazine.')
Here's some cut portions, my comments in brackets[]:
- -------------------------------------------
MAX: You heard what Hubble said. He's a KILLER. A SHAPE SHIFTER. And he's
out there. He could be ANYONE. We need to stick together more than ever.
MICHAEL: You're wrong, Max.
Michael goes. This time, Max starts after him and it's Isabel who stops Max
and lets him go.
ISABEL: Run away, Michael, that's what you do best.
[Camera] On Max and Isabel as they watch Michael go.
[Here's the cut scene]:
We get the feeling Michael has ben wandering for a while, facing a dark
night of the soul. And now he's ended up here.
Feeling completely abandoned, he raises his arms out and SCREAMS at the sky.
MICHAEL: Where are you?! Why did you leave me here? WHY?
Just then, WIND BEGINS TO BLOW. A sign from above? Or another rejection?
Michael turns his face up to the sky, forever searching.
- --------------------------------------
Another cut scene from Act Four:
MICHAEL: I'll do whatever it takes. I mean, I've thought about it and I want
to... You know, take control of things. And I'm ready to do it, so...
Another beat [as you might have guessed, "beat" means 'short pause' in the
script world]. Now all eyes on Philip.
PHILIP: Come by the office this afternoon. We'll talk. I'd like to know
more about your situation.
MICHAEL: (thank you) This afternoon.
[Here's the cut scene]:
Then there's a KNOCK at the door. Philip goes over to answer it. Isabel and
Diane take a seat. Max comes over to Michael.
MAX: Can I give you a hand?
MICHAEL: Yeah. You can do the bacon.
Max and Michael share a smile.
EXT. EVANS HOUSE - BACK PORCH - SAME MOMENT
[Ext = External/Outside in the script world]
Philip opens the door to find Valenti. They talk privately.
VALENTI: Mr. Evans.
PHILIP: (surprised to see him) Hello, Sheriff.
VALENTI: I understand Michael Guerin is here.
PHILIP: Yes, he is.
VALENTI: I've got to take him to meet with Social Services.
PHILIP: He's not going to be needing that. I'm going to help him look into
emancipation.
VALENTI: Mind if I ask why?
PHILIP: Who's going to want a 16-year-old? They can't even find homes for
infants.
VALENTI: Mr. Evans, this is a potentially serious situation you're getting
involved in. His father's clothes were found this morning in the south
desert. Shredded. Still no sign of him. Looking more and more like foul
play.
PHILIP: I can't see that the boy could have had anything to do with that.
VALENTI: I gotta warn you about getting involved with this kid. You don't
know him. He's a trouble-maker.
PHILIP: My children trust him. That's good enough for me.
VALENTI: Well, then, I guess you're on your own.
Valenti's surprised at Philip standing up for Michael. But he has no choice
than to accept it.
Philip closes the door and turns around. Sees Max has turned and overheard.
Knows his son saw him stand up for Michael. [Camera] Hold on the look
between father and son.
- -------------------------------------------
The last cut scene is when Michael gets his new apartment. This is right
after the Judge grants Michael a petition for emancipation:
INT. MICHAEL'S NEW APARTMENT - DAY
[INT = Internal/Inside in the script world]
A modest studio apartment, just around the corner from the Crashdown.
Mostly empty, a tattered couch, a few empty milk crates, stuff that's been
abandoned from the previous tenant.
Michael sits on the couch next to his duffel bag that he still hasn't
unpacked. It's hard to look lost in a 10x12 room, but somehow he manages. A
long beat. Then:
The door flings open. Max, Liz, Maria, Isabel.
GANG: Surprise!
MICHAEL: Whoa! What're you guys doin' here?
But they rush past him, carrying mop, bucket, cleaning supplies, pizza boxes
and other stuff.
ISABEL: We're here to help clean up.
MICHAEL: I kinda like it the way it is.
MARIA: Michael, some of these stains are neither animal, vegetable or
mineral.
MAX: This place is so cool.
MICHAEL: Two-fifty a month cool. Man, it was great of your dad to help with
the deposit, but I gotta get a J-O-B.
Max and Liz exchange a look.
LIZ: I heard you made a pretty mean breakfast the other day. There just
might be something for you at the Crashdown.
MICHAEL: Wow. (then, quickly) Wait. Does that mean SHE'S going to be my
boss?
He means Maria.
LIZ: (smiling wickedly) She's the manager.
They all crack up at the irony, suddenly, there's a tiny sound. Almost like
a meow. It IS a meow.
MICHAEL: (suspciously) What's THAT?
MARIA: That is... Sigourney.
She pulls out of her back pack a LITTLE TABBY KITTEN.
MICHAEL: Ha. Funny.
LIZ: She was an orphan.
MICHAEL: The lease said no pets.
MARIA: What's one more secret?
[Camera] Off all of them as they dig into the pizza, laughing, Michael's new
family. Two chicks, three aliens, and a cat.
[The next scene is when Hank arrives at the Valenti's office].

They're actual shooting scripts... not transcripts or fanfic. Personally I
would have loved to have seen the final scene in the script. I wonder if it
was filmed and then cut out later, or if it was never filmed at all.

The next new episode of Roswell doesn't air until Monday April 10th. It's
called "Crazy". The remaining episodes will air all in a row after that.
(OT: I've heard the next new Buffy won't air until April 4)

Subject: [roswell] Fanfic: Nothing heals me like you do Part 1
Title: Nothing heals me like you do
Author: Danielle M. (opel70@aol.com)
Rating: PG13 I guess, I don't think anyone under 13 would want to read this
Characters: Max/ Liz mostly
Comment: This takes place after the balance, when Max broke up with Liz.
Disclaimer:Don't worry I don't own any of the characters...but I can only
dream of what I'd do to Max/Jason if I owned him!
This is my first fic, please give me feedback good or bad.
"Maybe one day soon
it'll all come out
How you dream about each other sometimes
With a memory of
How you once gave up
But you made it through the troubled times"
Fountains of Wayne
PART ONE
"Liz...Liz Parker!" yelled out Mrs. Kessler their English teacher.
"What...Huh?" Liz answered.
"Stop daydreaming, and start paying attention!" Mrs. Kessler said.
"Oh sorry" Liz replied.
Maria DeLuca looks back at Liz with a worried look on her face.
:The bell rings:
Liz gets up and rushes out.
"Thank God that was my last class" she thought.
Maria catches up to her in the hall.
"Hey babe are you okay? Mrs. Kessler was calling your name like five times
before you answered."
"Oh, yeah, I'm fine." Liz told her friend "I guess I was just in deep
thought or something. So anyway, I'm just gonna go now, I'll talk to you
later."
"I don't think so" said Maria said. "Why don't I come over to your house
early before work, we need to talk."
"Maria, there's nothing to talk about, I'm fine, really."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm fine. I'll see you at work." With that Liz turned around and
walked off.
The thing is I'm not fine, Liz thought the only person I want to be with,
isn't with me.
Max Evans still had another period to go before school was over. He hasn't
really been paying attention in his classes either. Luckily his accounting
teacher didn't care. As always, he was thinking of Liz. When he slowed
things down between them he didn't think it would be that bad that they would
still be friends and everything would be okay, but it wasn't. He and Liz
hadn't talked for 15 days. 15 days he thought of not talking to Liz, really
talking. He missed her so much he could hardly stand it. I could still be
with her now, if I never took a step back, but I need to keep reminding
myself that it's safer this way anyway.
Isabel Evans caught up to Michael Guerin in the hall.
"Hey Michael"
"Hi Iz" he said.
"Michael, I'm getting even more worried about Max, he's not getting any
better."
"He isn't?" Michael asks with concern.
"No, he just sits in his room and listens to the Counting Crows, I've never
seen him like this before, what are we gonna do?"
"I don't know, but I told you she was trouble from day one." Michael said
I really need to get a life, Liz thought as she walked home. But she
couldn't stop thinking about Max. All the good times, everything they
shared. She thought about the first time she knew she was in love with him.
It was when they got in the car accident. Seeing him lying there, not
knowing what was going to happen to him, she knew she loved him and no matter
what she always would. She held back her tears until she made it home. Then
she ran up to her room and cried.
"Maria, she'll know what to do" Isabel thought as she saw Maria walk out of
school.
"Maria, wait!" Isabel called out.
Maria turned around "Excuse me, do I know you?" Maria said in the tone
Isabel did the when she asked for help when Liz's grandmother was in the
hospital. "I thought I told you not to talk to me until we have complete
privacy."
"Please not now, Maria" Isabel said. "I need your help, we have to do
something about Max and Liz."
"Yeah I know" Maria agreed as they walked out onto the street. "Liz has been
like a walking zombie."
"Same with Max" Isabel added. "We have to get them to talk or something."
"Hey, why don't you get Max to come to the Crashdown today, and I'll make
sure Liz will talk to him." Maria said.
"Alright, its worth a shot, I guess." Isabel said.

Hey Guys,
How are you? Just wanted to pass this info along to all of you. =
Kristi and Mandy of the fanforum have started up a fund and an =
organization for putting an ad in Variety magazine from the fans. Here's =
all the info plus mailing details. Please contribute if you can and keep =
sending the tobasco sauce. It's really making an impact. Thanks again to =
Gayla and Mel! Gina :)
Okay - here we go! =20
I talked to Variety today - very wonderful contact, by the way, who is =
very excited about the whole thing. We have a full page ad reserved for =
April 6th - this is the Thursday before the show moves to it's new time =
slot. Think this will be good timing, as we will be heard by the WB, as =
well as giving the show a little shameless plug for the new time slot. =
How can the WB not love us for that? The page we have reserved is the =
"3rd right hand page of advertising" - which is apparantly a prime =
location that she should charge extra for, but is waiving it because, =
well, she just loves us! =20
The cost for the ad is $2530 - that is for the full page ad in black and =
white. If we add color, even one dot of it, add on an immediate $3100. =
So, I'm thinking.....color? What color? By the way, silver is color. Oh =
well. =20
We have two different deadline dates for the ad - one if we do it all =
ourselves or another one if we decide to take them the bits and pieces =
and they set it up. If we take them the bits and pieces and let them do =
it, there is an extra charge, but no more than $100. I have to check =
into the exact numbers for that - it was all very confusing by that =
point. If we do it ourselves, we have until April 4th. If we take it to =
them, we have until April 3rd. Big difference, I know. =20
If we do create the ad ourselves, it all has to be in Mac format using =
Photoshop 5. Since I am a PC girl, I can't do this myself, but I'm sure =
someone can. Let me know. Either way, I'm fine with how we work the ad =
out - I don't think an extra $100 is all that much to worry about, if we =
decide to have them to do it, but it's up to you guys. We'll figure it =
out.=20
The P.O. Box is set up for receiving donations if you guys want to =
start. Like I said, every little bit will help. It's a lot of money to =
raise in a short period of time, so we need to do this quickly. We may =
set a deadline date for donations, but we'll see how it goes first and =
then decide later. If we have extra money, I have some other ideas that =
I'll get into at some other time. Rest assures, if we make more money =
than we actually need - we will put it to good use in some other =
campaign. I promise you that.=20
I would like to request that when you send a donation, please please =
please write your posting name on the check and include some kind of =
post it or index card with your name, posting name and email address on =
it. I would like to keep this very organized and be able to confirm with =
everyone that I have received your donations. I'm predicting that this =
will get pretty crazy and I will not be as timely in this as I want to =
be, but I will try very hard to keep it together. I'm a little anal =
retentive and highly organized when it comes to this stuff - as I'm sure =
you've noticed - so help me out with the little things like that if you =
would. I really appreciate it.=20
All that being said, here you go! =20
Alien Blast
P.O. Box 1869
Burbank, CA 91507=20
Make checks payable to "Alien Blast".=20
I want to thank everyone so much for their support in this. I have said =
a few times how excited I am about it and I can tell you all are too! =
I've been trying to keep up with this thread, but it's been tough =
because my darn day job keeps getting in the way. But I promise to read =
it all and all the other threads about the ad over the weekend and will, =
hopefully, be able to compile all the ideas that have been offered into =
one long list. I'll work on that tomorrow and try to get it posted here. =
Maybe we can start some kind of vote to narrow our ideas down.=20
I do want to post a few thoughts of my own here - Like I said before, I =
completely agree with what Olderfan said above. This is an ad for the =
WB, not to advertise the show - that's their job. We are trying to get =
their attention and let them know how dedicated we are to the show, so =
the ad should reflect that. The three slogans that have stuck out in my =
mind are:=20
Roswell fans are having an Alien Blast!
Roswell, We Believe, Do you?
Roswell has touched our lives.=20
I don't know why they can't all be combined somehow, depending on how we =
lay out the ad. We should focus on getting original artwork of some =
kind, as I think the legal ramifications of getting by copyrights, etc. =
is a little too much right now, for the speed we are trying to get this =
done. One thought I had about getting around the silver handprint is =
making it gray and in the background of whatever we decide to say. I =
would love to have it be a letter to the WB saying what we love about =
the show and why it should continue for many years. Those are just my =
thoughts.=20
I do love Mandy's idea about not posting actual names in the ad, as I'm =
hoping that we will have a lot of names and that's a lot to put in the =
ad. We should sign it by some fan name we come up with for the ad. Then, =
one thought I had was that we can send copies directly to the three =
people at the WB with a cover letter listing everyone's names =
individually along with all the Crashdown information (although I do =
think the Crashdown information should appear in the ad). Is that what =
you had in mind also Mandy?=20
Okay, I really am going to wrap this up. I just want to say THANK YOU =
again to everyone for their support. A special thank you to Black Widow =
for getting this up on the S.O.S. website so quickly. Let me know if you =
need any more info than what I've said here.=20
Think I covered everything....Wow! I think the length of that post has =
to be some sort of FanForum record! =20
Night all!
