  37. I haven't tried any converting techniques, but I am discovering a lot of
  38. closet Roswell fans. Sometimes merely bring up the show, during a
  39. conversation, allows those who watch the show but feel they are alone in
  40. Roswell Land, to let the Roswellite out. If anything, getting them to join a
  41. Roswell message board is even harder, which doens't make much sense!

  93. it to Mondays, but I haven't seen anything official myself. If the ratings
  94. are staying around 5-6.0, there's little reason, I think, why they should

  120. Well, I'm the converted here :) I watched the pilot and couldn't get into it, 
  121. but then all my friends started watching it and told me I *had* to start 
  122. watching it. So I watched "285 South" with them (that's what it was called, 
  123. right?) and that was it, I was hooked. Mostly thanks to Michael and Maria, 
  124. those two cracked me up in the way they were interacting with each other. And 
  125. then I spotted someone on the Xmission buffylist subbed to a Roswell list so 
  126. I asked for subbing instructions and here I am!

  185. In the beginning, Roswell was about three aliens trying to survive on a
  186. planet where they were "alone." Trying to fit in to a world that they knew
  187. was not theirs. As the show progressed, I thought I was looking at another
  188. Dawson's Creek, 90210, and the like. The show seemed to center around the
  189. intimate moments between Liz and Max.
  190.  
  191. **The shows writers were asking themselves...How many times during the next
  192. hour can we have Liz and Max all over each other?
  193.  
  194. Don't get me wrong, intimacy is a good thing. Prior to the last two or
  195. three, which were more sci fi then anything, the show had the appropriate
  196. mix. You had your sci fi, mystery, intimacy, and comedy all in tandem.

  198. There will never be another X-Files! There may be another Friends! If
  199. Roswell can stay right in the middle, it will last as long as the story
  200. allows it to.

  345. on trust.  Lucky for our plot line!

  348. Something I keep trying to overlook is that Liz is always leaving the
  349. restaurant un staffed!  Does Liz run that restaurant or what?  I never see
  350. her parents working there.  What's up with that?  How many hours does she
  351. put in?  Argh!  I just have to cool it and realize I'm being obsessive.
  352. The restaurant isn't real.  It's there for a convenient meeting place, and
  353. occasional humor.  Love the menu.

  355. Sadly, in 'real life', there are lots of families where there is no need
  356. for subterfuge or trust.  The parents just couldn't care less where or what
  357. their children are into.  Making a bomb in the garage, ordering automatic
  358. guns, cutting up the neighbor's daughter for convenient disposal, are all
  359. recent examples of our society's 'lack of parental involvement' with their
  360. children.  Brrr.

  397. Crazy episode. I was watching it today with the little girl I babysitt for 
  398. (who by the way loves the show and me for taping all the episodes since she 
  399. had never heard of it before, she's getting caught up this summer) and was a 
  400. little confused. I think when I watched it the first time I was confused as 
  401. well, but figured everything would pan out by the end of the season. Well it 
  402. didn't, at least not for me, after I watched this episode again. Ok, now 
  403. that I have just confused everyone reading this and myself even more, I'll 
  404. get on with why I'm confused. Here goes. Nasedo posed as the psychiatric 
  405. doctor that was supposed to be taking care of Topolsky in Maryland. Why? 
  406. What reason did he do this for? It seemed like Topolsky was trying to help 
  407. the "pod squad," so what's with him pretending to be her doctor? If anyone 
  408. has any feedback to offer on this, it would be appreciated. I am beyond 
  409. perplexed. Thanks.

  503. Was Topolsky not picked up, or captured, later in that same episode. Maybe
  504. Nasedo posed as her psychiatric doctor to keep the "pod squad" from getting
  505. to close to her. This may have kept them from being captured as well. If you
  506. believe Nasedo's whole protector angle. Was it not reported that she died
  507. later on?

  542. In early episodes, the parents were *much* more
  543. visible, and there were other waitresses at the
  544. Crashdown--Agnes comes to mind.  But you're right; the
  545. parents just haven't been around much lately.

  547. Now, www.roswellscripts.com has the original scripts
  548. from season one, complete with the stuff they edited
  549. out for time.  And the Destiny script does contain a
  550. reference to all the parents freaking out over all six
  551. (Tess's "parent" knew where she was) kids
  552. disappearing, which several people on the boards
  553. thought would have added a nice touch.

  555. Maybe it's me, but does anybody remember the parents
  556. being around much post-Sexual Healing?  And given the
  557. way Max's and Liz's parents reacted to *those*
  558. activities, it would have done a lot for reality if
  559. we'd seen something about Max's parents losing it when
  560. he disappeared from the carnival.

  604. That episode was confusing, what happens to Topolsky?
  605. She is killed right? Was the fire an accident or did
  606. the FBI set it? Was she really nuts because everything
  607. she said turned out to be true. And if she wasn't nuts
  608. why was she in the insitution? Why did Nasedo pose as
  609. the doctor when Topolsky was telling the truth and
  610. trying to help them?

  670. mental institution so they could classify her as insane, and therefore no 
  671. one would believe her stories. It was Nasedo who turned up, because he knew 
  672. that Pierce was on Topolsky's tail - which would've led Pierce to the kids. 
  673. So he lied about Topolsky in order to protect them. As we know, Nasedo 
  674. doesn't care about who gets hurt, so long as the kids are safe.

  917. School Incident in Littleton, Colorado (aha, I did some research).  In all
  918. the news reports I read the assailants were referred to as the "gunmen" and
  919. the "shooters".  I had to dig a little to discover that the assailants had
  920. also made pipe bombs and something called a "20 lb. propane bomb".

  922. I confess I quit digging after that so I don't really know if anyone was
  923. killed by a bomb, or if they made their bombs in a garage.  My mind is
  924. tickled, tee hee, about some reference to an informal shooting range way
  925. out from town?  But the tickles don't help the memory much, just irritate
  926. it!  Most of the references seemed to indicate the victims were shot by
  927. "low quality weapons" (shotguns and pistols).  That was a lot more
  928. information than I needed to know, but, it was all there for anyone to find.  
  929.  
  930. (Additionally, there were some very sensitive and nurturing memorial sites
  931. dedicated to the incident.  I'm sure they were developed as a cathartic
  932. exercise for survivors, family's of victims, and anyone traumatized, or in
  933. otherwise affected, by this dreadful incident.  If you are still so
  934. strongly affected by this incident after 1 year and 2 months, you might
  935. want to check them out.)

  937. Also, I made three separate references to (fairly) recent crimes committed
  938. by adolescents.  
  939. Do you realize how you denigrate the other incidents by only mentioning one
  940. of them?  
  941. Are the other crimes less horrific because they mean nothing to you?

  1310. audience and making that audience feel comfortable. So the comment about 
  1311. "who cares who runs the restaurant" isn't really relevant. It may be a plot 
  1312. device, but still, a world has been created, and in that world... life goes 
  1313. on! This isn't a personal flame, just my opinion on the topic...

  1364. I'm surprised no one had any comments (so far) on Heat Wave yesterday. Of
  1365. course, I've always felt this was more of a 'filler' episode and it's
  1366. probably the type of episode the network is wanting the show to get away
  1367. from.

  1369. Still, if there's anything that really makes that episode worth watching,
  1370. it's the Isabel/Alex dream-walk scene. It was nice, also, to see some
  1371. parental units having some kind of story to them.

  1373. This episode also had quite a few good songs in it, which I missed in the
  1374. last couple of episodes that were a little more devoid of music. (Thank
  1375. goodness for Napster!) ;-)

  1408. This was actually my first time viewing of "Heat Wave". I was really a spotty 
  1409. Roswell watcher til about March, so I'm using this summer to fill in all the 
  1410. gaps and to actually add visuals to what I read at the Crashdown.

  1412. I really liked this episode . . I'm not sure if I'd call it "filler" because 
  1413. it established the Liz/Max relationship as something concrete and also 
  1414. involved Alex's finally finding out the secret, even though he doesn't 
  1415. believe. I really like that "I believe that you believe line". The whole 
  1416. scene in the jail from Liz telling him to Alex standing up to Valenti really 
  1417. worked for me.

  1419. And I was glad to see the show had actually addressed in some way the fact 
  1420. that it seemed odd that it was okay for Michael to kiss Maria but not for Max 
  1421. to kiss Liz. I was nitpicking at that before I saw the ep, but now I feel 
  1422. much better :)

  1439. it reminded me of things I'd forgotten during the rest

  1443. needed to let Alex in on the secret, because they
  1444. would better off including him. That really points to
  1445. later episodes where he was important.  In Balance,
  1446. when Michael is so sick, the circle they formed would
  1447. have been incomplete without Alex--it took everyone's
  1448. involvement to save Michael.

  1451. concerned about hurting Maria all along and had
  1452. acknowledged that perhaps it wasn't a good idea to get

  1513. because caution was always so prevalent with Max/Liz, it seemed strange to me 
  1514. that it wasn't with Michael/Maria, so I was glad to see that it had been 
  1515. brought up at one point. Max was afraid to even kiss Liz, yet Michael just 
  1516. seemed to kiss Maria without a second thought. I guess it just chalked up to

  1648. today she was so totally dissapointed about "heat wave"..... her words were 
  1649. " last nights ep reminded me of 90210, but on a junior high level. i wanted

  1674. I have, and have had the opportunity to have seen it again recently. The
  1675. thing is, we're really not mean to like the 'Ford' character that Behr
  1676. played, and I don't recall that it was a favorite among 'Buff-a-holics.'
  1677. Basically it helped establish that Buffy was alone and could not trust even
  1678. some of her closest friends, as Ford had once been. Still, one can't help be
  1679. somewhat sympathetic to his character. He had some kind of terminal brain
  1680. cancer and was going to die unless, as he believed, he became a vampire.

  1925. There are several campaign suggestions in the works
  1926. for following-up the Tabasco blitz from the spring. 
  1927. Right now the front runners seem to be: 
  1928.  
  1929. 1. a silver handprint on black paper with Roswell: We
  1930. Still Believe (or We Believe) on the paper, sent to
  1931. the same addresses the fans used before.
  1932.  
  1933. 2. an 'orb' mailed to WB as well.  Instructions for
  1934. making the orbs are at the NORoswellCancellation
  1935. egroup, but the upshot is getting some arts and crafts
  1936. easter egg kind of things and spray painting them
  1937. silvery, then tracing the alien glyph symbol onto it.
  1938.  
  1939. The biggest debate seems to be timing for mailing all
  1940. this in.  Some people have suggested starting a wave
  1941. in late September/early October to coincide with the
  1942. season premiere, and then perhaps a second wave in
  1943. November after the initial ratings have come in.  The
  1944. idea would be to marry these two campaigns together
  1945. somehow.

  1947. Anyway, fanforum asked that those of us on bigger
  1948. mailing lists start postings these ideas and rounding

  2048. out for time.  And the Destiny script does contain a
  2049. reference to all the parents freaking out over all six
  2050. (Tess's "parent" knew where she was) kids
  2051. disappearing, which several people on the boards
  2052. thought would have added a nice touch.
  2053. Maybe it's me, but does anybody remember the parents
  2054. being around much post-Sexual Healing?  And given the
  2055. way Max's and Liz's parents reacted to *those*
  2056. activities, it would have done a lot for reality if
  2057. we'd seen something about Max's parents losing it when
  2058. he disappeared from the carnival.

  2089. Um, actually the show would tend to focus on the
  2090. *stars*. Since the parents aren't the stars of the
  2091. show and the show doesn't focus on them, they wouldn't
  2092. be major players. I think it's more to a directed
  2093. audience. Teens watch shows about teens. Adults watch
  2094. shows about adults. "Once and Again" on ABC Monday
  2095. nights is kind of a revolutionary show in that it has
  2096. over a dozen characters, teens and adults, and each
  2097. week they focus on only one or two people. I think
  2098. it's better to focus on the same few people for one
  2099. show, even though I really love "Once and Again."
  2100.  
  2101. The Snoopy reference is cute, but I don't think the
  2102. reason the writers of Roswell and other teen shows
  2103. leave out the parents in ever episode because they are
  2104. Charles Schultz fans. Although, anything's possible :-)

  2129. Dido is becoming more popular all the time!  I have always loved the Roswell 
  2130. theme song. I have had two unexpected hearing of  "Here with me."

  2132. The first occured a couple weeks ago.  I was in a tack shop (place you buy 
  2133. stuff for horses) in New Hampshire, and on the radio what do I hear - but 
  2134. Dido's "Here with me."  I was shocked and totally excited that it was being 
  2135. played on the radio.  I am a die hard Roswell fan so it just made my day!  
  2136. Unfortunately, I have no idea what radio station was playing but I liked the 
  2137. other songs that were on that channel.

  2139. My second sighting happened yesterday when I was watching a tape of my soap, 
  2140. As The World Turns.  One of the characters turned on the new Dido CD, and

  2199. I tend not to watch television that much during the summer. Mostly due to
  2200. the reruns which I have already seen. Shows like The X-Files, Roswell, BtVS,
  2201. Angel, though this is the first "summer" for Roswell and Angel, lose me
  2202. during the summer because, these shows are series and not like Law & Order,
  2203. where one episode may have nothing to do with the next or last. I do tune in
  2204. when there is an episode I prefer to see again. I "recruit" new viewers
  2205. during the summer months, especially those who may have watched an episode
  2206. or two during the regular season. I do make a point of taping the season
  2207. finale of the past season, watching it right before the first show of the
  2208. new season aires.

  2232. one. I have my best friend Emily that I've shown the
  2233. greatness of Roswell to- and it has been good. She
  2234. would like to rant a little about Alex and his
  2235. "misinterpreted" idea about his *bass*. Here she is:

  2237. Okay, I know this is all, like, petty and crap, but
  2238. everywhere I see people referring to Alex playing his
  2239. guitar: in fan-fiction, in re-caps of episodes, all
  2240. over the internet. The only problem with this is that
  2241. Alex doesn't play the guitar; he plays the bass. Watch
  2242. "Blood Brother" and "Blind Date" again; he's sitting
  2243. there playing a bass, not a guitar. There are two
  2244. other guys in "The Whits" who play the guitar, one on
  2245. rhythm and the other on lead (I can't remember their
  2246. names), and Maria even looks at Alex and says
  2247. something about turning down the reverb on the bass.
  2248. So, in conclusion, Alex plays the bass, not the

  2288. happen, and webpages are being constructed to explain
  2289. the details regarding those 'waves.'  However, at this
  2290. time, nobody is supposed to send a handprint anywhere.

  2293. might actually annoy them.

  2669. Essentially, you can go to any craft store such as
  2670. Hobby Lobby, and buy an oval shaped wooden object,
  2671. along with some spray paint.  Some people layer
  2672. several different colors of paint together, but I
  2673. think a basic silver would do just fine.  
  2674.  
  2675. Spray paint your 'easter egg' and then take a darker
  2676. color of paint (black I guess) and trace the alien
  2677. symbol on it.  
  2678.  
  2679. Now you can get really creative and use an Easter egg
  2680. that opens up.  Spray paint that, and put some kind of
  2681. wacky message inside the egg, maybe a We Believe note
  2682. or something.  However, I'm going to have a hard
  2683. enough time explaining oval orbs to kith and kin, so
  2684. I'll be avoiding the jack-in-the-box approach...
  2685.
