  5. We hate rules, but unfortunately, they're a necessary part of life. So we're
  6. keeping ours short and simple. Basically just use common sense and play
  7. nice!

  15. Please don't quote an entire post only to respond to a few lines. Only quote
  16. what is necessary.

  18. Rules concerning Spoilers If you get advance information on a new episode,
  19. or see an episode earlier than the national viewing time, and you want to
  20. post about it, YOU MUST do the following:
  21.  
  22. **Mark the post as a "spoiler" in the subject header.
  23.  
  24. **DO NOT give away the spoiler in the subject header--be vague!
  25.  
  26. **Leave about twelve lines at the top of the post. Don't leave them blank or
  27. with periods/dashes-- some mailers think the message is over and will cut it
  28. off. Use non-spoiler info or do something like this:

  33. l
  34. e
  35. r
  36. For the required number of lines, of course.

  38. This ensures that anyone who doesn't like knowing about an episode ahead of
  39. time is "protected." The blank space is for people whose mailers
  40. automatically open up the next piece of mail, without giving them a chance
  41. to see "spoiler" in the header.

  43. Spoiler warnings are not necessary after the start of the episode's national
  44. viewing time, which is currently set at 9 p.m. Wednesdays, Eastern Standard
  45. Time. Spoiler warnings are NOT necessary for reruns.

  47. Additional spoiler info: Once a promotional "trailer" has aired at the end
  48. of an episode, the information in that trailer does <not> need to be spoiler
  49. protected, even if it contains advance information that has been under
  50. spoiler protection previously. The general rule is: if it has AIRED, it
  51. doesn't need spoiler protection.

  53. Episode information of ANY kind from TV Guide or local TV listings MUST be
  54. spoiler protected until the episode airs, unless it's exactly what has
  55. appeared in an aired promotional trailer. TV Guide info is often very, very
  56. specific, and this is the kind of spoiler info some people just don't want
  57. to know ahead of time.

  59. Speculation about upcoming episodes does not constitute the need for spoiler
  60. space.á

  62. These are the rules for now. If we feel that further ones need to be added,
  63. we will alert the list and add them here.

  65. The list moderator(s) may declare any message thread dead, regardless of
  66. these rules to protect the list from unforeseen problems.á
