ok, so i was sort of half-watching the miss america pageant on sat.
(watching while reading, actually). during one of the commercial breaks i
looked up when all of a sudden the volume disappeared, and i saw the tail-
end of an announcement on the screen that LOOKED (in the fleeting glimpse i
got) to be an announcement that the rodgers & hammerstein version of
"cinderella" would be on that channel sometime in the near future. (didn't
get to see enough of the commercial to be sure.) now, i seem to remember a
discussion back during the nurses ball on pc online that stuart damon
(alan) had starred as the prince in that version of cinderella, and i've
never seen it. i was wondering if anyone else watching the pageant saw
that announcement, or did i imagine (or mis-read) it?
i was watching it at my parents' house, and they have one of those
satellite dishes, which means i was watching the abc affiliate based in (i
believe) washington d.c., even though i'm in new jersey. (i don't know if
that's relevant or not--sometimes the satellite dish only gets local
commercials rather than national, so i'm not sure.)
if anybody else saw the same thing, and caught the whole commercial, could
you let me know when the movie's going to be on, and if it's going to be on
abc nationally or just the affiliate i was watching? i'd appreciate it!
thanks,
julie

Subject: GH/PC: love 'n stuff
oh my oh my oh MY.
that's about all i can say! last night i finally got to watch friday's and
yesterday's episodes of both pc and gh...and i was just really confused.
why, you ask? well, let's start with two facts i had always considered a
given: one, i LOVE sonny and brenda! always have, from day one. loved
their passion, their intensity, their chemistry...god, the looks they used
to give each other (particular sonny to brenda--lord, those EYES!) just
made me MELT. two, i was very ANGRY at pc for the mess they made of karen
and jagger, sacrificing a character i used to LOVE on gh for the sake of
this artifical "karen and joe" thing. i don't care WHAT they say...jagger
would NOT cheat on karen. period.
so...you can imagine my surprise when i watched the past two episodes of
both shows, and found my entire world turned upside down! i'm sitting
there minding my own business, and out of the blue there comes this INTENSE
kiss between karen and joe--and all of a sudden i'm feeling the chemistry i
refused to accept the existence of, right down to my very toes. then i
watch gh, with sonny and brenda's supposed last night as single people, and
their last night in their home town to boot, and i feel NOTHING. nothing
at all, except an exasperated "when is this nonsense going to be OVER" type
feeling. (i don't know why. s&b have been missing their old magic for
quite a while, since the reunion actually, but lately, in view of brenda's
stepford wife behavior, it's gotten UNBELIEVABLY painful to watch.)
to be quite honest, i'm not used to being surprised by soap operas--the
last time i was honest-to-god shocked by something that happened on a soap
was probably when robin was made hiv+, and before that, when bj was killed.
so when one of them manages to do something that DOES catch me off guard,
i'm even more thrilled. so i guess i'll have to admit it--that set of
scenes between karen and joe made me a convert. (jagger WHO??? and i'd
like to KILL that nurse that called karen!) but while we're on the
subject, any idea who's at the door? i have two guesses. one--jagger.
(which i consider fairly unlikely) or two--a cop supervisor sent to inform
karen jagger's been killed in the line of duty. three guesses which
scenario i'd now prefer! :)
as for sonny and brenda...i think they're beyond hope. which i should be
thankful for--it'll make maurice's departure easier to bear. because if i
had to watch many more of these "yes dear" scenes from brenda, i think i'd
lose it completely. at this point, i'm just hoping for a good, dramatic,
emotional set of scenes surrounding sonny's departure, and some sort of
closure that allows brenda to return to some semblance of a rational human
being. because this puppy dog routine just isn't cutting it for me.
that's about it for now. except i REALLY hope we see more karen and joe
very VERY soon!!! wow. just WOW! :)

Subject: GH/PC: gh/pc tidbits from tvguide's logan
fellow addicts,
well, seems i've now added a wednesday check of the transcript from tuesday
night's tvguide online chat with their soap guy, logan, to my list of gh-
related web nonsense. and since i was there, i thought i'd do a little
(probably illegal, shhh...don't tell!) cutting and pasting to share with
y'all...here's what he had to say, related to gh/pc (mostly gh):
********************************************************************
from "ask logan" (tvguide online)
Dear Logan,
Will Rena Sofer ever return full-time to General
Hospital? This upcoming guest appearance is not
enough -- especially since Wally Kurth isn't even
going to be on the show when she returns.
-- P887P, New Orleans
Dear P887P, New Orleans,
The buzz on Miss Rena is that she indeed wants to
return to the show on a permanent basis (well, as
permanent as a soap-opera diva can be...), and I
wouldn't be at all surprised if it happened before the
end of '97 -- just as Ned and Alexis should be getting
real serious.
******************************************************************
from logan's chat (tvguide online, 9/16/97)
Anglee: Do you know when Guza's material will start to air on GH?
Logan: Plan to see some stuff starting to kick in in November, but we'll
talk about Guza in detail next week at this time.
- -------------------------------------------------------------------
semi_angel: Do you think that Guza can save Stefan, especially after that
incest fest yesterday?
Logan: He damn well better. Stefan, don't forget, was Guza's creation, so
he's got a real investment.
- -----------------------------------------------------------------
fb: Do you think that Billy Warlock may have been one of the greatest
recasts in recent memory?
Logan: Sure, I'll buy that, and I ain't too proud to say I was one of those
who knew it from the beginning. I notice that the griping over Sean Kanan's
departure seems to have died down and Billy's popularity is really
growing....
I'm so glad this didn't turn into another Susan Batten situation, with the
show responding to fan pressure, but then Wendy really doesn't listen to
the fans, so I guess there really wasn't much danger of that, was there?
The same goes for those crabapples who don't like V, who I find more and
more charming everyday. If GH ever decides to drop her, I think Lisa
Cerasoli could have a fabulous sitcom career.
- ----------------------------------------------------------------
Celestial: Genie Francis... any news on that front, Logan? We miss her
beyond words! Can Guza woo her back into the GH fold?
Logan: I bet he will; nothing official yet. But Genie was telling folks at
the Soap Update Awards that she wants at least six months with her baby,
which, as I recall, was born in early June. Which means we shouldn't look
for her any earlier than December, which may mean on air in January. And
don't forget, she's made it clear she will not return unless she has an
extraordinary story for Laura (which Guza can certainly deliver).
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
b: Do you think Steve Burton will wash as Mr. Gangster?
Logan: Eventually, yes.
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
IluvSonny: How do you like Rex's madness on Port Charles? Don't you think
that the character is just written out a bit too mean ?
Logan: It pains me to agree with you, but I must. I hope Lynn Latham will
have the wisdom to tone that down. But I still love watching Northrop.
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
that's about it on the gh/pc front--the chat then degenerated into a
fight about who were the best couple of all time. (somebody asked logan to
pick his three faves, of which luke and laura were one, and the rest were
unrelated, and then people just started saying, "but what about...")
just thought i'd share, especially since the rena sofer update made me very
happy! (that, and the line about wendy not listening to her fans, which
just made me laugh!) it is a dilemma, since i'm kinda starting to like ned
and alexis...but LOIS! i'd DEFINITELY love to have her back, no matter HOW
messy it would make things for n&a!

No kidding. Yuck. Where is the Brenda who used to get in Sonny's face
until he would tell her what was going on? Who would back him in a corner
until he either (a) told her the truth or (b) lied to her? The Brenda who,
after she first found out about everything, was furious at him only for
LYING to her? Pod Person Brenda is painful to watch.
As for Karen and Joe -- I liked them all right before. But that scene --
YEOUCH! That one blew my mind. I suddenly like them much better now.
That was a very hot scene.

Logan is a personal fave. I disagree with him a lot, but I like that he
doesn't take anti-soap snobish crap from other people.
>Dear P887P, New Orleans,

Hhhmm... well, even though I am liking Ned and Alexis, I do miss Lois --
and not just because of her relationship with Ned. I prefered Q brawls
with her involved. And I love her relationship with Emily.

This is one of the reasons I am most looking forward to Guza's return. I
may not like a lot of other stuff he does, but he sure does make Stefan a
cool character to watch. Much more so than he has been lately.
>I'm so glad this didn't turn into another Susan Batten situation, with the

I agree with that. I thought the recast was a little odd, but I was
willing to give it a chance. And considering all the bashing the internet
was taking over the Susan Batten situation on ATWT, I was really afraid of
a repeat performance with the recasting of AJ.
>The same goes for those crabapples who don't like V, who I find more and

I agree. Maybe it was because I never really watched during Jax and
Brenda, but I am LOVING V. And I really loved Monday when we found out her
first name. Those scenes were really sweet.

I'm still in the minority, obviously, because Rex irritates the daylights
out of me. Or maybe I'm more irritated at the way that no one stands up to
him.

ITA! i LOVED watching lois and edward go at it!!! other than lila, i
think she's the only one i've ever seen who REALLY stood up to him. what
fun to watch!
>I agree with that. I thought the recast was a little odd, but I was

i'm the first to admit--i was definitely anti-billy warlock when he first
started. i was (and remain) of the opinion that if they're going to
attempt a recast, they should at least TRY to make it physically
consistent, especially if the recast is taking over the very next day.
(like the new karen and the old karen. it's been so long, quite frankly,
that i can't entirely remember--but it seems to me that the new karen bears
at least a PASSING resemblance to the old one. at least the same coloring
and stature and whatnot. and if not, at least there was time off in
between--not going from light to dark and losing six inches of height
overnight.) that said...he's definitely growing on me. (then again, most
recasts do...eventually. i think i just hate change in general!)
>I agree. Maybe it was because I never really watched during Jax and
>Brenda, but I am LOVING V.
well...i DID watch during the j&b days, and i STILL love v! (but maybe
that's not a fair comparison, since i was also an s&b fan!) i'm
getting worried, however, that they're making her character a little wishy-
washy (hmm...seems they have a tendency to do that with ALL of their female
characters...perhaps it's a conspiracy. where's stefan?), especially with
all of her insecurity around jax, when she USED to be this authoritative-
type person who never backed down. (come on--she got sonny to put down the
gun he was holding on the tin man, for god's sake!) however, with that
gripe aside, i have hope for her. (after all, if i were in her situation,
alone with jax (in malibu, no less!), i think I'D be a little nervous too!)
>I'm still in the minority, obviously, because Rex irritates the daylights

well, if it's the minority, count me in too! i remember back when logan
first wrote about pc in his column, he raved about rex then too. i STILL
don't get it. i can't stand him, and i don't buy him as a villian. he has
no depth whatsoever--he's like a comic book character. on second thought,
some of THEM have more depth of character than rex does! i suppose it's
probably one of those things that can largely be blamed on the
writers...but i'm with you--irritating at the very least!

It all evolved out of that delightful, "Blow it out your ear!"
And even though I agree that Ned and Alexis have (a) great chemistry and
(b) more in common than Ned EVER had with Lois, the fact remains that for
me, Ned and Lois were a lot like Kevin and Lucy, in that this dynamic gave
the long-time Port Charles resident the chance to evolve into what they
wanted and break the mold that the rest of the world always tried to put
them in. And, for me, Ned was less pathetic then.
These days he's seeming so desperate and sad and forlorn and generally
pathetic that it gets really hard to watch sometimes. I always loved Ned,
since he first married Dawn (if I was older I'd worry about dating myself
with that comment <g>), even when he was being a perfect jerk. But
lately... I dunno, that's one of my writing objections on GH lately: the
over-playing of the 'gate-keeper' thing. It makes Ned this hapless martyr,
which is NOT a role that suits him well or that I like him in at all.

Methinks we are. According to everything I've read, the over-whelming
majority of fans and critics REALLY love Rex.
I don't know... I haven't quite been able to figure out what it is about
him that I don't like yet. I think he's been a bit over the top, for sure.
But I didn't like him even before that. I think the thing I hate the most
about him is that he's a bully. I was always the kid in school who would
get recruited into beating up bullies on other kids behalf because I hated
seeing someone being picked on by someone else <g>. I think that's what I
hate most about Rex. I can't stand Danielle (and usually Jake, either) to
be sure, but it's mostly because she won't stand up to Rex. So I end up
hating them both.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the ep. I actually had to rewind

You have hit it the nail on the head with this. It is, indeed, Rex's
bullying that gets me. That and the fact that he seems to be absolutely
everywhere with his evil little smile. Danielle was sick to get involved
with him at all. All of that drives me nuts. I don't think Rex will ever
have a downfall, however. Some guys on soaps are just meant to go on and
on and I think he is one of those.

how true. if i had to watch one more "monica and ned hovering over emily"
scene during the dorman mess... and with a.j. too. i just can't STAND
watching ned in any of those roles. he definitely needs more to occupy his
time than "protecting" the family. and somehow i think trying to juggle an
attempted relationship with alexis and the return of lois would fit the
bill quite nicely! :)

oh my...i remember that one too! i had forgotten. gee THANKS, taiyin!

that's definitely part of it for me too. he's just so SMUG! i can't stand
it. and danielle is just an all-around wimp. and SO dumb...talk about
giving women a bad name! whoever it was (sorry...i forget) who commented
on her brilliant move of choosing, among all the places in the world to run
away to, the one place where rex would be sure to check...how true! sure,
it seems like he would've been able to find her anywhere...but couldn't she
have at least TRIED to make it a little more difficult for him???

rather on the magnitude of lucy's miscarriage. in fact, strikingly similar
in that i ABSOLUTELY REFUSE TO BELIEVE IT UNTIL I DON'T HAVE A CHOICE
ANYMORE. after all, it's secondhand. thirdhand, actually. read it on pc
online, from someone who read it in a soap mag. and they've been wrong
before. RIGHT???? but anyway, if you care to proceed, don't say i didn't
warn you...because it's ugly.

ok, that's got to be enough. i hate this. but i read a post that said
sonny is not even going to show UP at the church. that something is going
to happen and he's going to send jason to explain to brenda why he has to
leave.
which means, not only will there be no wedding, but that yesterday's scene
would be the LAST S&B SCENE. which i can NOT, WILL NOT accept!!!!!
yes, i can see how they could be setting it up for that--with the hands on
the door and whatnot. but it's BEYOND UNFAIR to have brenda invoke stone's
memory, bringing streams of tears to my eyes, AND THEN HAVE SONNY LEAVE
JUST LIKE THAT?!? no no no no NO! i'm sorry, but NO. it's not FAIR! i
had resigned myself to there not being a wedding. truly i had. but for
there not to be a farewell scene between s&b is just cruel. yes,
realistically i know there probably CAN'T be one--because if the two were
in the same room, brenda would convince sonny to take her with him. but...
I JUST HATE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS!!!!!!!
and of course, i read this before i saw yesterday's ep, so i was just
CRYING throughout the entire s&b scene...
PLEASE let that post be wrong. PLEASE?
but with lucy's premonition...oh god. i don't like this one little bit.
just had to share my frustration.

Oh my god. That is hideous! Ohhhh... I hope that is wrong.
Ugh. That does (I hate to even say it) make sense considering the wedding
promos the show has been running, though.

No kidding. When she was praying to Stone I almost lost it entirely.

Gods, I sure hope so.

I had heard something, though, about an explosion. I though THAT was what
Lucy's premonition was about?

i know. that's what scares me.

that's the first i heard of that. but ANYTHING would be preferable to what
i read. but truly, at this point, i am so depressed i don't even WANT to
speculate. i don't have the heart for it anymore. if yesterday was truly
it, all we're going to get of s&b, forever, that's just pitiful.

tell me about it...
i'm heading down to my parents' house straight after work today for the
weekend, and ordinarily i would just wait until sunday night when i get
back to watch my tape--now i'm trying to decide whether i should call up
mom and ask her to tape gh for me this afternoon, so i can watch it
tonight, or if that would just ruin my weekend ENTIRELY.

just to let everyone know, i MAY be incommunicado (for email anyway) next
week. i only get email at work, and i've been called for jury duty next
week. it's one of those call-in systems, where i call up the night before
to see if my group number has been picked for the following day, so i don't
really know for sure yet. but in case i'm not around to discuss what i'm
sure will be the heartbreak of today and next week's events (god, the one
week when i'm going to NEED to commisserate!)...you'll know why. see you

Subject: GH/PC: Almost forgot
I meant tom say this yesterday, but I got distracted:
I *loved* the interaction between Lucy and Bobbie at Kelly's on Wednesday.
It reminded me of their really nice interaction at the Nurses' Ball (when
Bobbie was trying to cheer Lucy up). I wonder if, now that they aren't in
the position of having to run into each other nearly as often anymore, they
might let them settle into a friendly truce.
Seeing Bobbie express her condolences about the baby was also really sweet.
Normally I have a very low tollerance threshold when it comes to Bobbie,
but I actually liked her there for a minute.
And, of course, yesterday in the church when Brenda went in and prayed to
Stone... <blubber><sob><wail>
And, lastly, normally I really dislike 99% of all wedding dresses. I
always feel like Fee in "Four Weddings and a Funeral." Snide comments
about over-sized puff pastries come to mind while I groan at yet another
flouncy, puffy, whipped cream wedding dress.
So, I must say, that considering how I *generally* feel about Brenda's
taste in clothes <shudder>, I was shocked to watch the wedding promos and
actually rewind them *just* so I could take a closer look at that REALLY
nice dress. I love it.
And Lucy and Brenda were making me laugh yesterday, because I had been
thinking pretty much the same thing (what Lucy was saying about brides
choosing ghastly bridesmaids dresses). I even liked the bridesmaid's
dress. I was stunned.

Sorry to leave so much copied, but I felt it was necessary.
I watched today's GH live and then went over the tape to watch again to be
sure my eyes hadn't deceived me. Today, the Portland area GH show really
left a cliff-hanger, the first real cliff-hanger I can remember in a long,
long time. The last I saw was Brenda turning around with a smile
(slow-motion) after someone came through the church doors in the back
(truly, the first time I ever really liked the portrayal of Brenda--my
heart was breaking for her and I was nervous that Sonny was NOT going to
show up). After that, Jax's voice said to stay tuned for scenes from the
Next GH. That was it. NOTHING. No promos, nothing. Not even the closing
credits. Whatever happened, they didn't give us a clue.
I make it a rule not to watch soap weddings. For some reason, I hate
them. I always hate that they always end with the couple in some sort of
danger. For some reason, though, I thought I would watch this wedding,
knowing that this one may be different for a lot of things (not that it
would be happy). I actually LIKED the pre-wedding stuff. Lucy was great,
looking terrific in that blue dress that I could never do justice to unless
I was well padded. The look on her face when Brenda was at the altar was
priceless, as she expected the worst and looked like it. Edward asking
Brenda not to go through with it. Everything. Their wasn't a single thing
about today's episode that I didn't care for, with the possible exception
of Lizzie, but not much spent on that. Edward's look when he was asked if
he had an invitation and the looks on the guards face when he asked them if
they knew who he was, was also priceless! My favorite GH wedding so far
(and I am glad that it was a cliff-hanger as I did enjoy the episode so
much). Kevin was cute because he was worried about Lucy's premonitions.
My question to others who watched this show in other areas... did you get
previews for next week? Did they run the closing credits?
I am not destroying this tape. I may have to put it on another tape so I
don't tape over it, but I am going to keep this tape!!!
