<html><div style='background-color:'><DIV>i'm usually just a lurker here, but i feel like saying something...</DIV>
<DIV>terrorism can strike at any time in any country. we're not the only ones who've been touched by violence. however, it certainly is the first time in my lifetime (i'm 20) that something of this magnitude has happened here. i'm minoring in political science in college, and planning to go on to law school soon. many of our politicians are thinking in the traditional vein of things-that a strike back, retaliation, and revenge is necessary. i tend to think along different lines. i think at a time like this the entire world needs all the positive energy that it can handle. it's been needed for awhile, and these events helped open many eyes to that fact. </DIV>
<DIV>please pray for peace, and a calm and peaceful resolution. and if prayer isn't your thing, please send some good thoughts into the world for victims and their families and associates. pray for or think of those in politically powerful positions, not only in the united states but in the other nations as well where war and unrest is prevalent, that they will at the very least attempt a peaceful resolution instead of the expected violent one. </DIV>
<DIV>i KNOW that there are mostly good people in the world. i know because this has been seen in the past few days everywhere in the world. on this very list alone, people from all over the world have shown that they are kind and good-hearted, and that is touching.</DIV>
<DIV>americans, we can do something else that could make a difference. write or email your congressperson, telling them that war isn't what the country needs right now. i have, and i think a wonderful way to close is by saying that nothing comes from violence, and nothing ever could. </DIV>
<DIV>thanks for reading this, guys...</DIV>

<BR>i have no idea who wrote this, but it hit the spot for me.
<BR>
<BR>"It's my job to have something to say. They pay me to provide words that help make sense of that which troubles the American soul. But in this moment of airless shock
<BR>when hot tears sting disbelieving eyes, the only thing I can find to say, the only words that seem to fit, must be addressed to the unknown author of this suffering You monster. You beast. You unspeakable bastard.
<BR>
<BR>What lesson did you hope to teach us by your coward's attack on our World Trade Center, our Pentagon, us? What was it you hoped we would learn? Whatever it was, please know that you failed.
<BR>Did you want us to respect your cause? You just damned
<BR>your cause.
<BR>Did you want to make us fear? You just steeled our resolve.
<BR>Did you want to tear us apart? You just brought us together.
<BR>Let me tell you about my people. We are a vast and quarrelsome family, a family rent by racial, social, political and class division, but a family nonetheless. We're frivolous, yes, capable of expending tremendous emotional energy on pop cultural minutiae -- a singer's revealing dress, a ball team's misfortune, a cartoon mouse. We're wealthy, too, spoiled by the ready availability of trinkets and material goods, and maybe because of that, we walk through life with a certain sense of blithe entitlement.
<BR>
<BR>We are fundamentally decent, though -- peace-loving and compassionate. We struggle to know the right thing and to do it. And we are, the overwhelming majority of us, people of faith, believers in a just and loving God.
<BR>
<BR>Some people -- you, perhaps -- think that any or all of this makes us weak. You're mistaken. We are not weak. Indeed, we are strong in ways that cannot be measured by arsenals.
<BR>
<BR>Yes, we're in pain now. We are in mourning and we are in shock. We're still grappling with the unreality of the awful thing you did, still working to make ourselves understand that this isn't a special effect from some Hollywood blockbuster, isn't the plot development from a Tom Clancy novel. Both in terms of the awful scope of their ambition and the probable final death toll, your attacks are likely to go down as the worst acts of terrorism in the history of the United States and, probably, the history of the world. You've bloodied us as we have never been bloodied before.
<BR>
<BR>But there's a gulf of difference between making us bloody and making us fall. This is the lesson Japan was taught to its bitter sorrow the last time anyone hit us this hard, the last time anyone brought us such abrupt and monumental pain. When roused, we are righteous in our outrage, terrible in our force. When provoked by this
<BR>level of barbarism, we will bear any suffering, pay any cost, go to any length, in the pursuit of justice.
<BR>
<BR>I tell you this without fear of contradiction. I know my people, as you, I think, do not. What I know reassures me. It also causes me to tremble with dread of the future.
<BR>
<BR>In the days to come, there will be recrimination and accusation, fingers pointing to determine whose failure allowed this to happen and what can be done to prevent it
<BR>from happening again. There will be heightened security, misguided talk of revoking basic freedoms. We'll go forward from this moment sobered, chastened, sad. But
<BR>determined, too. Unimaginably determined.
<BR>
<BR>You see, the steel in us is not always readily apparent. That aspect of our character is seldom understood by people who don't know us well. On this day, the family's
<BR>bickering is put on hold.
<BR>
<BR>As Americans we will weep, as Americans we will mourn, and as Americans, we will rise in defense of all that we cherish.
<BR>
<BR>So I ask again: What was it you hoped to teach us? It occurs to me that maybe you just wanted us to know the depths of your hatred. If that's the case, consider the
<BR>message received. And take this message in exchange:
<BR>
<BR>You don't know my people. You don't know what we're capable of. You don't know what you just started.
<BR>
<BR>But you're about to learn."

I hope this isn't a repeat, but it probably is. As always, I'm having trouble checking my email from home.
Vh1 is playing part of Fragile from Tuscany. It includes Sting's comments before the song and the moment of silence afterwards and words of rememberance on the screen at the end. But it's not the whole song from the webcast, I don't think. It doesn't include the chorus. They've been playing it A LOT.
I also just saw the Mad About You video. Vh1 is playing songs of "comfort and inspiration." Vh1 has also been playing a lot of U2. Some artists just rise to the top when meaningful music is needed.....

your absolutely right, kinetic kid. sorry to use the forum, but i didn't
have anyplace else to vent.
we are thinking about immagrating to canada, just to get away from all the
violence. i think there's gonna be alot more in the next few weeks.
just to explain what i percieve some of your comments/questions were as to
"why?"
The US has funded isreal, iran, afganastan thru the years, when they asked
for help to defend against their various enemies. (palastine, iraq, russia,
etc.) Bin Laden and those who are followers or similarly aligned view this
as 'american agression' (we tried to flush some terrorists out of Sudan and
other places in the not to distant past, and these are fundamentalist muslim
area's too.) From what i have heard in the american press, the islamic
terrorists are just fed up with the US giving their enemies money, influence,
corrupt moral exposure (it sounds silly but the way women are portrayed in
the west is extremely offensive to them, ie., uncovered heads, arms and legs,
let alone a woman in a bikini or loungerie advert) alcohol and drug use, the
list goes on. they don't want it in their 'holy land' and even though the
moderate arabs sell us oil, and make money off of us, they (fundamentalists)
consider westerners, jews etc 'infidels' that further corrupt the holy land,
which they don't control anyway. its as if we give our money and weaponry to
various entities so they can fight it out all over the middle east and north
africa, and then we act all enraged when we loose 5000 in one day. they cite
things like the 1982 attack in libya that killed something like 17,000 in a
very short period of time, and the US never even blinked. no one here lit
candles for their dead, or sang songs. we just kept buyin the oil, and
desicrating the idea's that they hold sacred.
Recently, i heard that the US funds Isreal with 5 billion dollars a year,
and continues to do so. the US was the first country to recognize israel in
the early 1970's, and we did that to support the holacaust survivors, not to
enrage the palestinians. but it makes it a little bit more clear, why they
hate us so much.
i know that we are not really like that. its easy for them to percieve it
that way, but we are so insulated here in the US from these terrorist acts
that go on every day in the middle east. We just see it on TV like the rest
of the world does, but they blame our government for not stopping it, and in
their view, even promoting it by funding and armement exchanges.
anyway, i hate to be so soap boxy, but i'm scared to death. i hold dual
citizenship in the US (native) and the UK (by marriage) and my son is dual
citizen by birth. We have discussed what may happen here, and knowing what i
have read about biological weapons, we are very afraid to stay here. (I live
3 hours south of chicago and about 36 miles north of Indianapolis.) we are
currently making arrangements to get to the UK if it becomes necessary.
in 2 weeks we are hosting the american formula one race, and its a major
international affair. if its not cancelled, i fully anticipate some sort of
crazy shit to happen. some guy in an over coat with 40 pounds of TNT
strapped to his chest. The indianapolis raceway would be sort of hard to get
out of if something like that happened in the infield, and people could be
trampled.
I live on one of the city's reservoir's that supports the east side of
indianapolis. i dread that the water supply could be tainted.
i'm maybe just being paranoid, but i think the US is naive if they think that
they will be able to 'smoke the terrorists out of their holes' and not have
the multitudes of terrorists that are already positioned around the world,
not do simultaneous terrorist actions, (and i don't think that its gonna be
air travel related.)
any body have a gas mask?
thats just what i think. i hope i am wrong.

I wanted to take a moment to thank everybody for prayers and thoughts for the
entire USA during this tragic time. I cannot believe how united we have all
become and how ironic that statement truly is. I think we need to keep
praying and come to understand that no maniac is going to ruin our lives.
I cannot express how deep my sorrow is and I have done nothing but cry since
last Tuesday. My birthday was the 11th (hence the 911 in my address) and at
first I kept thinking how this ruined my birthday for the rest of my life.
My grandfathers birthday was Pearl Harbor day and he actually changed the day
he celebrates his birthday to Dec 14th. Then I realized that "My God its
just a birthday and that is nothing compared to that tragic loss of life that
has occured. Its nothing." I didnt even want to celebrate and just feel
like an empty shell of a person. When I saw what Sting did by cancelling the
webcast I came to realize what a truly great human being he is. He could
have continued on and reaped millions of dollars by doing so but he didnt and
I think that was actually the greatest gift I got that day.
I am sorry to ramble so much but again thanks to everybody, Please support
the American Red Cross. They are asking people to please donate money, as
they no longer have storage space for physical donations. You can visit
www.amazon.com to make a contribution.
I live right outside Philadelphia (which is a scary place being right smack
between NYC and DC) but locally Acme markets and WAWA stores will match
donations dollar for dollar up to $100,000. Also, blood is only good for 42
days. Make an appointment in about 2 weeks to give blood. The current rush
of donors is amazing but they will need more in a month!
I am praying for us all.....
Thanks again and God Bless!

I know that this is off topic, but in light of recent events I thought
that this might be a refreshing break, and I would really appreciate it.
My friends and I have started a band, but we can't think of a name.
We were going to be called Wiggum, because we're huge fans of The Simpsons,
but that name is apparently taken by some punk band in DC. We're a three
piece acoustic cover band at the moment, with two guitar players and myself
on bass(and rather poorly i might add, but i've been playing for less than a
year). We mostly play radiohead/weezer/bob dylan covers, but I'm pushing to
put walking on the moon in the set. We haven't had the time to work on it
yet though. Well, I would appreciate any suggestions you might have, or not.
I was just trying to put some happier news on the list. Thanks.
Ross
PS. Right now we like to call ourselves Aaron and the Aardvarks, so we
really need a new name.

Calling fellow Sting fans - if you go to www.webshots.com and click the tab 'photo search', then type in 'sting', you will find 20-30 pictures of Sting (some of which I've never seen, and believe me, I've seen most of them). You have to download the Webshots application to have the wallpaper, but believe me, it's worth it. It will change wallpapers every 10 seconds or however often you want. I have 'searched the world over' for such wallpaper, and never have I found anything like this. You HAVE to check it out!!!! Rock on!

This Friday, my bandmates and I will be playing our second gig.
Thanks for all of the band name suggestions, but we really haven't found
anything we like. It's much harder than we anticipated it to be, because I
thought it would be easy to pick a band name, or someone would have thought
of one. The reason I'm emailing the list is to let everyone who may be
interested in knowing that we're going to play a medley with So Lonely
included. It's a song I really wish Sting would bring out of retirement.
We're starting with No Woman No Cry(of course the obvious choice.
even Sting said it was a rip-off), then going into the song Crazy Game of
Poker. It's by a band called O.A.R. I'm not sure how many people would know
of them, because they are not incredibly huge. Then we're going back into No
Woman No Cry, then to Let It Be, and then into Farmhouse by Phish, and
finally climaxing with So Lonely. It's such an easy arrangement, because all
of the songs share the same C G Am F change with some small variations, and
the nice touch is that Let It Be and Farmhouse slow down the song, so So
Lonely starts off slow, and then picks up for the chorus. We're not playing
all of the song, but it's enough to make me happy.
Well, i know this really has very little to do with the list, but
we're so excited about it that I had to tell someone, and we want it to be a
surprise for our friends. Well, it's 12:00, and i haven't started my paper
yet. Gotta go.
