Happy Holidays Orbsters!
I have a little project I've been working on for quite some time:
http://www.migoto.com/orb/ There's still a few holes, especially in the
artwork department as I haven't found an easy way to scan my 12", but I'd
love your feedback, input, and most certainly any additional info for any
of the items which seem bare.
Hope you enjoy it!
=)

My report didn't turn up in Orb digest - maybe it's too long. So here it is FYI.
And tonight is another Orb concert in Melbourne!!!!
http://www.12am.com.au/news/dec2001/bliss2-sunproject.html. So if your ears get hot sometime between GMT/UT 12:30-2PM when Orb is due onstage, that'll be me making a special wish that you could somehow be there too :)

Hello Orbsters,
Preamble:
I haven't posted for years. Old-timers might recall me wishing that Orb came to Australia, because we can still have legal outdoor parties, and there's strange lizards and tropical beaches and rainforests and snowy mountains and all sorts of things esteemed visitors would enjoy. And that post attracted a personal reply from an Orb member... oh look I still have it in my mailbox, 17-March-1996. He hoped they could come to Australia as well, and only lamented bad promoters cancelling their plans.
Alex Patterson did two DJ concerts in Melbourne in 1999. They were thoroughly amusing, because he was abit sloppy in parts - but always followed through with some impeccable selection or spoken sample that was just perfect. A friend and I said hello at the bar abit later but he was preoccupied. He also did a sloppy lunch hour on radio and I got the log tape haha.
Anyway -- thanks to lurking around these digests, I heard Orb were finally coming out here, and yippeee - an outdoor concert! For me, the timing was perfect. 1. I'm possibly relocating to Korea and doubt Orb would tour
there. 2. I was overseas just recently, very reluctant to return home to Australia's re-elected neo-liberal, racist political regime - but Orb concert gave me the courage (and the hedonism :) and 3. This is my favorite
"band" for about 10 years, so attending their concert -finally- at age 29, is really nice.
So a big thankyou to everyone here for keeping the list alive. Thanks Bbbrooo encouraging me to post. Thankyou also Orb people for coming here.
Report:
The event was held in a lovely state forest about 90km from the city. The organisers have been doing outdoor parties here since mid-90s. They've lost alot of the older trance hardcore supporters over the years, but still manage to pull off big budget outdoor events with a ripe crowd of clubber youth. Interestingly, in all my conversations with strangers you meet, very few knew who The Orb were, or perhaps they'd heard of them but were mainly just out for a party. Ah, kids today :)
It was difficult to guage numbers. Maybe 5,000? Just a Saturday late spring afternoon around a forest with lots of cars, tents, colours, car stereos, toilet trucks, people wandering around... a marketplace, 3 or 4 sound stages (I got abit lost in counting or finding them later :), an outdoor cinema, etc. At night-time, there were lots of projections in the trees, flouro installations etc.
Orb were due on the main stage at 3-5:30am. After 2, it got increasingly crowded there. And it rained lightly for 5mins. My partner kindly offered to videotape the concert, which is quite a challange - holding the thing
above your head for 90mins, buffeted by people. We found a high patch by a tree, about quarter of the way back. Quite a few people were videotaping.
It was nice to see the viewfinders held up above people's heads throughout the crowd - abit like mini-televisions repeating the view of the stage for people behind that couldn't see. Tiny LCD screens at night and outdoors can be abit mesmerising.
It was a very tight set, complimented by very tight video on the stage backdrop. The video was long loops rather than transitions. Lighting effects were nice. They played some classics like Fluffy Clouds, Perpetual Dawn, Blue Room... some misc filler stuff... a really funny bondage version of Sound of Music - "my favorite things".., and some new things. I could see someone with I think a blonde spikey hairstyle doing live guitar, so made my way to the stage. Being at the front didn't help viewing. Anyway,pre-recorded sound and some embellishments, The Orb were finally playing a
live concert outdoors in Australia and everyone seemed happy. Super. In my head at the time were all sorts of profound thoughts, and the sample "the music was fantastic".
At exactly 90 minutes, the set ended. The crowd cheered loudly, earning an encore. The encore was extra special. Unfortunately I can't remember exactly ("the music was fantastic"), and we only had 90mins batteries for documentation and later review.
I wandered off after the encore, but one member of our camp reports dancing by the speakers at the left of the stage and being joined by Alex Patterson wearing a kilt and dancing madly into the dawn. Haha.
Outcomes:
Well, we watched some of the video. It's good for review of what they played, and the sense of it being live. I'd like to put some snippets online for list members, but unsure of the legalities.
Also, theres another Orb concert in Melbourne this friday night. Some club/hotel venue, not sure where, but I won't miss it.
It's now summer here, but cool miserable weather. Sorry Orb members (if they read this) but Melbourne gets summer in February. Further up the east coast, Sydney is having terrible storms, but Brisbane is warm and sunny.

OK. That's all for now. Thanks for reading.

I have quiet an extensive collection of ORB and KLF mp3s. Plus I have about
8 gigs worth of Trance and 3 gigs of Rock and Roll (60's-2000) and 2 gigs of
Solid Steel and 3 gigs of Videos. MY FTP is acting funny in the fact I have
to turn off my firewall to let people in. So I would like to be contacted

Thankx and sorry for the inconvenience, but this is how it has to be. I am
home from 6 pm central standard time and on most Fridays, all day long. I am
here on the weekends also, but will be out over the next 2 weekends for the
holidays.

Subject: (orb) CR's ftp: an update
Dear Music Friends,
First of all, I would like to thank all the people who offered to donate one or more hard discs for the 'new' CR ftp. The old hd on my colleague's computer (10 Gb) has now been replaced with a new one. Since 10 Gb hds are not available anymore, they put in a 20 Gb hd (what a bummer, eh). With this new capacity there's no need for additional hd space. I'll try to start up the new site as quickly as possible, meaning this or next week. I'll see you all then...
Grtnx,
Steph...
P.S.: If people already sent me something I'd be happy to return the package if you wish. Just let me know, and I'll send it back.
