Hmmm, dude ... sounds to me like you want to be a rock critic
when you grow up, or at least you've read way too much rock
journalism.

Boy this baffles me ... considering that what the Orb and FSOL
play in large part grew out of dance music, and you can still dance
to it, even while O.O.B.E. chugs along in 3. Dance music (all
forms of it -- dnb, trance, jungle, trip hop, acid jazz, and yes even
hi-nrg house) is a huge part of my life. Maybe you should go to a
few parties and dance half naked with 2000 of your closest friends
and see what a blast the stuff can be. My current fixation is happy
stuff, and I can't get enough of it.

Oh yeh? Well, there's everything coming from Thrill Jockey for
one. Then there's all the stuff coming from Recommended,
Cuneiform, Table of the Elements, Duophonic, TEC Tones ...
there's plenty of stuff around that no one else is doing. I check just
about everything out and I hear very little I *can't* get into, except
maybe the new hippie jamband thing ... Phish, Dave Matthews,
etc. Or the hair metal thing enjoying a resurgence. And even
those have some moments I think are cool that don't sound like
anything else. And of course just rediscovering the history ... all
the EEC prog bands going on in the 70's and 80's ... I find new
great stuff to listen to all the time. Current new(ish) stuff is
Coldcut/Steve Reich and Golden Calves Money Band, current oldie
is West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band. It's not MTV's fault.
Radio was nothing more than a giant commercial before MTV
existed, and if you think there's no alternative, well, you're just not
looking hard enough.
> Back then, there was punk
> and "new wave" to turn to....
Like it (other than than Blondie and the Knack) was on the radio. I
remember the 70's quite well, thanks, and no you didn't hear the
Pistols on American radio.
How about jazz and newmusic/avantgarde stuff? There's plenty of
it around too. Or how about lounge? Or maybe the Incredibly
Strange Music thing? How about the noise thing from Japan? I
could go on and on.
> Nowadays, the "alternative"

Well, if you'd stop compartmentalising and actually listened to it for
something you like rather than something you don't, you can find
there's something in everything that you do like. If nothing else you
can appreciate that whoever made the record actually finished it
and got it to conform to the Golden Rules of Pop Music. The more
I hear music the more fractallike it gets, and it's just infinite. I
never get tired of anything because I keep changing what I'm
listening to all the time, and it could be literally anything. In the CD
player now: Stereolab/Nurse With Wound, Bonkers 6, Boredoms,
Controlled Bleeding, a Ninja Tune comp, Tool, Stars Of The Lid,
Julie London (two of her 60's albums), Porcupine Tree, Dolly
Parton (one of her 60's albums), Alice Cooper, a Charles Ives disc,
a Hindemith disc, Skeeter Davis, Al Hirt, Perry & Kingsley,
Diamanda Galas, a gay Hi-NRG disc, a comp a friend made me of
old really camp hilarious queer rock songs, a gabber comp, a Soup
Records comp, Gus Gus, Faust, Lamb, and of course Orb vs.
Oldfield. And yes it's on random. And that's just right now. Next
week it'll be something I've never heard before.
If you're impatient with the radio and the mainstream, why should
you care? Don't listen to it. Who really gives a fuck what the top
40 songs are? Go out surfing for toonz on the web. You can find
new and different stuff. It's out there. You just have to go check it
out, but don't sit and bitch about not doing it because those of us
that do check it out regularly will think you're lazy.

Skidoo here,
"FOR THE PLANES THEY WILL SPLATER, THE PILOTS WILL DIE...WE'LL STAY IN KOREA
AND NEVER MORE FLY."
That's always been one of my favorites. Marajuana bomb is real good too. I
also always liked: "Man your the best boyfriend a girl could possibly have."
The Towers of Dub intro is also too good...I have to stop now before I just
name them all! :o)

Snap! Jeff you took one my favorites. I also like the Mr and Mrs. America
sample from "Delta TK II" on the ToxBox. Chilling as it is, I also like the
Jonestown sample from "More Gills Less Fishcakes". It is very effective and
the meaning seems to be turned aournd completely, especially, I imagine, for
someone who is not old enough to remember that tragedy. Suddenly out of
context, it becomes a clarion call for using love as a weapon; not to
mention the squelch put on it is pretty sweet when you have your Buddha on.
Also, I quite like the Were So Happy to be with You sample from the
beginning of "Montagne D'or" on the second Peel session disc. Above and
beyond, however is the Hammond B3 sample from that sixties classic
"Peppermint Twist" on "Perpetual Dawn" both on Ultrabass II mix and on Live
93. I bust up everytime I hear that.

Nonononono. Don't get that one unless you want some jazzy drum-n-bass
stuff that doesn't really sound much like K & D. DEFINITELY track down the
2CD "K & D Sessions" - the best damn thing you can buy for $14.99. Amazing
stuff, I can't believe they could turn such a wide variety of stuff into
their sweet loose trademark jazz-bossa-tripped G-Stone sound.
Oh, yes, the "G-Stoned" EP is sweet, too, of course.

I know I've mentioned this track several times in the last week or so, but
Bang 'er 'n Chips (Song 4) is one of my favorite Orb tunes. I tink it would

my drugged memory may be flawed. however, i did see
them play 'alles ist shoen' at organic '96 ... i

When sharks get feed, they have at times, I believe, get into such a frenzy
that it excites them to the point that they procreate? that's what I've
always taken it as...
And now that we are on the subject.... in this same song, towards the end
after the breakdown, does anyone know what that crazee squeaky voice says? I
always thought is says Joely Joely... which is cool, cause that's the name
of my FiancΘe's son! We always trip out on that, and to this day call it the
'Joely' song..
Fave orb sample? well besides Salt (I love spoken word) and "It's really
just the Sun" I love the sample on U.F.Orb (album)
"There is no such reality as suh suh something from nuh uh thing"
and the whole "Third world or world three" thing on O.O.B.E. ....> that
shits the bomb.... but I guess I can be cerebral at times <grin>
oh, and the 'bonus' track on Orblivion (besides the 'America on LSD' sample)
I love the sound of the guy's voice when he says "I can't take it no more"
and that phat jungle flavored beat drops back in....
and the.... HELL I LOVE THEM ALL, that's one of the Main reasons I listen to
the Orb.... and like them so much... Call me Shallow :)

not necesarily, considering that the Tape-Beatles' CDs are pretty heavily
sampled and thrown all over the Orb's records. I wonder if LX knows them, or
just likes their stuff...
BTW, are there any other Tape-Beatles releases other than "Music With sound"

Alles Ist Shoen was more of a segue than an actual live track, and was
mixed very beatheavy (IMHO). From what I've heard of 94 shows, they
only used some of Pomme fritz's samples, but not nearly as much as they
used Orbus Terrarum samples. I have yet to find any Pomme fritz songs

I've seen the second Peel session/s on vinyl, fairly recently too...
As for the first one, I'm not certain but I think it was released on vinyl
as well as CD and cassette, as I said I'm not certain.
Bye,
Chris.
P.S. - On topic, the K&D stuff is amazing. The recent remix album (K&D
Sessions) is good stuff, but I'm not too keen on them when they go drum 'n'
bass (a genre I find mostly boring). I haven't seen the "G-Stoned" EP yet
though, unfortunately.

I own the first one on vinyl. So I guess that means they both are... :-)

Hi,
The rumors are true! There are beings that live in the Ultraworld! I
have proof! Last night I was laying in bed with some light reading by Robert
Anton Wilson when all of sudden a girl lacking any physical features joined
me in room. This girl wasn't beamed down like Star Trek, nor did she fly
through the window like Tinkerbell. No, she had been there for an eternity
waiting for me to catch up with time. I felt no surprise that she was there,
nor was I curious as to how she got into my room. Her being there with me
made all the sense in the world. I wish I could say that she brought good
news but alas the truth must be told.
Some many years ago the Ultraworld used to be a bright and cheery place
filled with colors, sounds of children laughing, and of course Orb. To the
chosen few Earthlings, who are privileged enough to hear them, the Orb is
music. But what the Ultraworld dwellers discovered along time ago was that it
also provided a link to a parallel world. That parallel world being Earth.
After discovering the gateway the people of the Ultraworld were excited to
find out that they were not alone. Finally, they thought, someone to share
the wonders of Orb with. They began furious preparations for first contact
with the people of Earth. When the day finally came thousands of Ultraworld
beings gathered to bring peace, love, and Orb to the people of Earth. With
the sacred five albums locked securely in a gold chest, the people of the
Ultraworld descended onto Earth.
The people of Earth, unready, maladjusted, and full of hate turned violent on
the strange beings who lacked physical features and glowed with an eerie
incandescence. The only peoples who extended a warm greeting to the strange
beings from the parallel world were a small group of people from what is now
present day Jamaica. Unfortunately this small group of people were greatly
out numbered by the masses and thousands of Ultraworld beings cried out as
they were mercilessly slaughtered. Those who were not slaughtered were driven
back without their sacred vinyl. The portal has been sealed.
Since the scattering of the sacred five albums the Ultraworld has been a cold
and lifeless place filled with fear and paranoia. My quest is a simple one.
Return the sacred five albums and in turn bring the Ultraworld back to
prosperity. I know you can find it in your hearts to help my cause because
without you the ultraworld does not exist. Since my quest has began I have
only been able to obtain two of the sacred five albums the other three are
listed below. Please help us in our cause. No price is to high to bring the
Orb back to the Ultraworld.
The act of exploration is not so much one of seeking new landscapes but of
fashioning new eyes.
1)#1 most important - Pomme Fritz
2)#2 second most - Adventures
3)#3 third most- Orblivion

Whatever happened to the track the Orb were supposed to have done with
Robbie Williams?
Wasn't it for a tribute album of some sort?
Was it ever released?
If it was (the album, that is), was there perhaps a single of the
Orb/Williams track?

It had been released 9 months ago on the album "Gotta get a message to you
- - tribute to the Bee Gees" in UK.
Thanks to Smiley, I had a copy of it.
The Orb / Robbie Williams track is brilliant. It's a song AND it's an Orb
track.
The other tracks are sometimes cheesy, but some are OK (the lightning
seeds, monaco and some others I dont remember).
You can buy your copy at :
http://www.audiostreet.com
for 11.99 UKP if I'm correct.
It might be pricey, but it's for a good cause (the funds are for a children
foundation), so don't hesitate !

Subject: (orb) OT: hear(s) the new Art of Noise album
Since I've finally gotten my hands on an advance copy of "The Seduction of
Claude Debussy," the new Art of Noise album, I'll be broadcasting it in its
entirety tomorrow morning (Thursday 5/5/99) between the hours of 6:00 am and
9:00 am Central Standard Time interspersed with other tracks (remixes
mostly) that showcase the studio wizardry of Trevor Horn.
To tune in from anywhere in the world using RealPlayer G2 (or, if you must,
Windholes Media Player), tap on http://www.wmse.org/ and follow the link at
the top of the page to the live feed.
(Of course, if you're within a 20-mile (or so - I'm guessing) radius of
downtown Milwaukee, you can hear it at 91.7 FM.)
If you weren't previously hip to the fact that original ZTT-era Art of Noise
members Trevor Horn and Anne Dudley had hooked up with Paul Morley and Lol
Creme to put together brand new material for release, once again, on ZTT,
get the full scoop at http://www.theartofnoise.com/
The album is due out in the US on June 15th on ZTT/Universal.
Trust me, you want to hear it. And after you hear it, you'll want to get it.
Enjoy!
