Subject: (orb) orb remix of Anesthesia & stuff
got the press thing for UFOFF. it has a 8x10 of LXP holding a toy vw?=20
bus. hmm...theres also a 4.5 page bio. the quote it starts off w/
"I walked into Trancentral (The KLF's South London studio/squat) in July=20
'88 and Jimmy (cauty) had just bought an old OBX synthesizer. I knew a=20
bit about it, so I got on it and started making these weird noises and=20
Jimmy said 'I want to record this'. And that is literally how The Orb=20
came about" Dr. Alex Paterson
- ---
I was wondering if someone could clear up the new releases of LFC, I=20
wasn't paying attention when it happened. was it ever fully released, or=20
was it just a UK promo? it sounded like there were at least 1 or 2=20
bootlegs w/ different mixes. could someone list out all the different=20
versions?
- ---
I got the Blue Room Released comp More Signs of Life (BRM1002). its got=20
the orb remix of anesthesia that Smiley is selling, cept he's got the=20
unedited version:
More Signs of Life - Album Sampler (Blue Room; BR 075)
UK PROMO 12" vinyl including;
Anesthesia 'Dirty Hiss' (ORB Remix) - this clocks in at 15m40s,=20
and will only be on the full album in an edited form
Minimum Bid: =A38/$15
the comp has:
Anesthesia 'Dirty Hiss' (ORB Remix) 07:47
I can't figure out what the sample is saying, 'oh my gosh, my 1st...???'=20
the remix is cool, but I wouldn't call it essential.
also of note
Toires 'Hipslow' (Greg Hunter Remix) 06:27
any other recent remixes?

hey all!
amoeba IS great. another one to try as far as vinyl is concerned is
soundworks on valencia just south of market. their selection is great
(and cds too). i don't know how often they restock orb, but i got my
vinyl copies of pomme fritz, live 93 and their remix of tangerine
dream's "evening star"! so i'd give 'em a try. also there's a great
falafel stand about five blocks south! ;)

Hi,
I have a relatively simple question: What is Morphology?
I keep hearing about it, but I don't know what it is.
Also, does anyone have the Orb Peel Sessions that they could copy for
me?
Everytime I find it somewhere on the net they tell me they don't have it
anymore. If I can't get a copy maybe someone could tell me a place
where they still have it. I'm looking for both Peel Sessions.
Also, sorry for including something personal in the post, but Skiddo,
please email me, I can't find your address!
Thanks!

Hello All. My original copy of the video Patterns and Textures has
gone defective. I was wondering if somebody might be able to help me
out and dub me a backup copy. The criteria I request is:
*Hi-Fi to Hi-Fi dub from an NTSC Master(store bought) copy
*RCA cables (not a coax "channel 3" dub)
*a premium Hi-Fi vhs cassette (Maxell XL HIFI/TDK EHG)
*recording speed set to SP mode
If you have the ability to do so, please email me privately so we can
set up a trade or whatever you might want in exchange.

Are you serious? I dont know if you know this, but there are many free sites
out there with some really good rare live stuff. Maybe you have some things
other people dont have, but most good people on this list would gladly try

Werd! Besides, anyone look at this stuff? There's nothing there
that wasn't on Scott's incarnation of the OAA, so none of the people on
this list care anyways, as though who use MP3's already have all that
stuff. :)

<snup>
thought i'd mention that those OAA guys who caused trouble a few months
ago don't have anything to do with this :)
in other news, there's another place to get orb mp3's at:
ftp.mocker.org/pub/orb (it's anonymous access)
there's gonna be a web-version too, at www.mocker.org/~orb but the
links aren't updated yet (but the pages are there)..hopefully that'll be ready
soon...
i believe that scott was kind enough to replace most (if not all)
of the
mp3's we were missing with his vast collection...so, uhh, there's quite a bit
of stuff.
if you've got more live/rare goodies, feel free to contact and we'll
hook you up..more live stuff would be especially nice :)
ok. thanks.

WHAT?! Where did THIS album come from? I've

Anyone else hear of this before? Anyone actually HAVE
it? Was it a limited release, or what? HELP! :-)

i have decided to be crazy. I am taking the bare necessities , and drive all

, and see amazing sights. Anyone who can offer a place to stay for the night ,
or knows of cheap nearby campgrounds , please write me. I will be with one

I'm new to the list, so I'll go ahead and introduce myself...
Derek Daniels
19 years
Orb CD's: 'Orbus Terarrum'
'Orblivion'
CD's with Orb on them: 'Urbal Beats comp.' ("Toxygene"-anyone
noticed this version sounds different than the album one?)
Meat Beat Manifesto-'Original
Fire' ("Radio Babylon-Beach Blanket Bimbo Land-The Orb Remix")
...and that's all I can think of that I have off the top of my
head. I first saw the video to "Blue Room" on M2, so I'm relatively new
to Orb music. Anyone suggest anything?
My favorite song by them is either "Fluffy Little Clouds",
"Asylum", or "Oxbow Lakes". Another song I like, but can't think of the
name, is a remix they did that's titled "Gone With The Wind".
I'm on the Mobility mailing list as well, and am still waiting
for a collaboration by the Orb and Moby, or even a remix.

don't hold your breath! from what I have heard in interviews, these two
artists are at very different stages in the whole music game... i think moby
would LOVE to collaborate, but I'm not so sure about the Orb... In my very
humble opinion, naturally

I didn't go check and see, but I'd be willing to bet the sara mclachlan song
is one of the two from the plastic compilation (probably fear - luna sol
remix)

Subject: (orb) An Historical Note to Orb Maniacs
Hi Folks
It was Little Fluffy Clouds (LFC) which changed my life, turned me onto
the existence of Dance music as a genre that I could take seriously and
was part of a complete change in the way I looked at many important
issues in life (I'm not saying the Orb where solely responsible - but
they played a major part in the recipe).
Anyway, that's MY excuse for being a fan <G>. It's also my excuse for
laying out major cash for the 10 CD box set of 'Steve Reich - Works'
[via Nonesuch] (which contains some excellent ambient tones, BTW). Some
Orb fans might not be aware that Steve is the source of the superb
jangly guitar-like sample for LFC.
In fact, it's on disk 8, if you ever need to know. Played by a guy
called Pat Metheny, it was recorded in 1987 and is known as Electric
Counterpoint. The whole piece is just under 15 min long.
Reich knew full well that the piece had been sampled and The Orb who,
apparently, never sought permission - well, you were more likely to get
away with it in those days. Reich doesn't mind, though. An attitude to
sampling which I admire. Well, it got a sale from me so it was a good
decision I reckon!
Anyway, for what all the above's worth, thought you might like to know.

Except that <G> was an AOL thing, no? That is, it first started
appearing/was spawned on AOL... I remember using smileys in like 9th grade
and that was in 1992. So I think smileys might actually pre-date <G>
Could be wrong, this is just my recollection.

Hmmm. Sorry for continuing an off-topic subject, but why don't you try
(if you don't read it already) the IDM digest at Hyperreal? Lots of
Autechre/Gescom content, as well as Fat Cat, Boards of Canada, Bola,
Skam, Chocolate Industries, Orbital, Coldcut, Ninja Tune, Chain Reaction
and lots of other cool shit.
There was a review of the Autechre gig in Manchester last week on the
web. Apparently throughout the entire (long) gig about 2 or 3 minutes
could be described as "song like" - I'm guessing that they improvise the
majority of the stuff there and then.

Indeed, I love Steve Reich!
And I got one question: there's a rare promo vinyl of Reich tracks. I
recently recorded a song by coldcut from the album "Reich Remixed"
(1999). The song's called "music for 18 musicians". Is it true that this
promo vinyl will soon be released on cd? Will it be limited? Where will
it be sold?
Sorry for bringing up an off-topic again but the list is such a grand
knowledge base!
Paul: thanx for mentioning Reich
Y'all take care,

i thought this record was quite easy to find... but i could be wrong... I've
def. seen it on CD...
as for coldcut, they would have to do that one, after releasing "music for
no musicians" on their latest album!
and for all orb lovers, track down and watch "an electronic odyssey: the
Theremin story" because it is truly amazing... our wonderful SBS TV channel
showed it on sunday.... see and hear what inspired a whole century of
artists, including the orb themselves :-)
cheers all :)

A little problem : there is the lx paterson mix from Mixmag and the
Textures CD2.
These are CDs easily available. I suggest you remove them from the ftp.

At the risk of starting another war, :) for those of us who don't live
in london or paris, the textures and mixmag cds are _not_ easily available
The first time I even laid eyes on the textures cd was when i was in london...
Besides, both of these are long out of print - the orb aren't making any money
off of them anymore, and i think that was the intent of alex's comments...
just my humble opinion..

Using Yahoo shop, I found that
http://www.towerrecords.com sells Textures for 24.99 USD
and Amazon.com sells the Mixmag Lx mix (with the excellent Mixmaster Morris
mix) for 28.49 USD.
So you can find it on the net.
I dont want to start another war, but these tracks should be removed from
the new OAA.
