Yup, as far as I know all the Listening Excursion discs are really just
locally-repackaged copies of the US "Blue Room" promo CD5 (CDP 804, as
included with early copies of U.F.Orb).  I don't have the San Diego promo
handy so I can't compare the printed tracklist...

               The first time I heard with my brother 'CID' Pomme Fritz was
automaticly dubbed the album that remixes itself.......You know when sometimes
you listen to music and it takes you on a journey?   The vision I see alot
when I hear 'Pomme' is alot of multi-colored wires criss-crossing away from me
over a never ending landscape of sand dunes.
I will admit the clocks of Assassin are very cool and atmospheric.  When it
comes to great Vitamin 'A' music tho'..... Pomme fritz just does what YOU
want.  I have the video too, so that may have something to do with it....
anyway got to go to mail something for a friend...(U NO WHO U R) and go to

I must say.....please keep the lists coming.  It is always good to hear
about bands that you would usually not hear about.  Since this thread
started I have gone out and bought : BT, Boards of Canada, and System 7.
 All of which I had never heard, but after seeing how many people mentioned
them, I had to go and buy them.  Please, RJ, remember that not all of us,
especially those here in the states, have a chance to hear about ALOT of
bands that those people in the UK hear of.

Anyways..........do you have anything you would like to discuss about the
orb that we havent talked about in the last couple weeks? Didn't think so..

i had similar expierince myself when i listen to Orbvs Terrarvm.  i owned for
like a year or so <actually used it as a final pick on a columbia house
order:: i believe the blurb underneath the album picture said "Sounds like a
rainforest on Mars">
and the first time i listened to it under the influence of a psychedelic:: it
was not the same album.  This happened to me for the next few times i listened
to it.  It had taken me that long to fully map out all the subtlties of The
Orb's work.  <

Actually, I think the last track of Pomme Fritz sounds like an evil
intergalactic circus invading another planet, forcing the inhabitants into
submission with freak shows, space clowns, and trapeze artists (think

This is really interesting because I remember Alex one time commenting on
Orbus Terrarum.  He said that he tried to make that album so dense and
thick, so that every time you listen to the album you hear it in a different
way. He also spouted out other things about influences on Eno's no linear
music ideas and interactive music (I might be imagining these things it was
a long time ago when I read this.  I think this is from in interview in
Keyboard magazine from '95, Alex I believe is on the cover... and the Nord
lead was reviewed for the first time).  And I truly believe it!  Every time
I listen to that album, I get sucked in and surrounded by all kinds of
noises, and every listen seems to be a new experience...

But best of all is that climactic moment in Montage D'our... And I was quite
happy with the remix of this song that appears on U.F.Off... A great way to
end the album... This version is even more crazy and chaotic, the main
reason I love the Orb.  There music practices chaos, even in their more
simpler pieces.

And their music is so visual.... But doesn't force you to think any one
particular image... This is very obvious when you hear people descriptions
on the list, they are so diverse.

Sorry but I'm a little more interested in the musical tastes of fellow Orb
fans, and not those of the girl in the supermarket.  I have learned about
more interesting bands from this list than anywhere else; but hey, maybe
your into Hanson or the Backstreet Boys or Monica -- and if this is the case
the girl in the supermarket or your neighbor might be an incredible untapped
reservoir of information.

It probably took at least 50 people to post those 70 messages you didn't
like, so something tells me you're in the minority.  In my opinion these
lists we've all posted are Orb related because we are Orb fans and this the
other music we like -- the intention is to turn people on to bands they may
have never even heard of before, but will possibly like because another Orb
fan likes them.

Hey!

I was watching a show on PBS last night about travelling to Mars.  It's called
Scientific something or other, and has a guy from M*A*S*H as the host.

Well, they showed this NASA video that was released in 1989 that was
animated pictures of the surface of Mars.  When I saw it I immediately
recognized having seen it in Patterns and Textures!  I can't remember which
part of the video, though....it may have been (ironically) from the Earth
(Gaia) part but I'm not sure.

Just thought I'd post something other than a list of band names.

worship its members in ways that could probably be diagnosed as some sort
of personality disorder. That said:

    Am I the only one who's noticed that alex sometimes seems like
he's a little bit full of shit? Non linear music? I dunno...

    Did anyone download that interview in MP3 from the OAA before it
went down?

you know, i never really thought of either of these, as i had my own
theories for them both.. here they are..

his immortal logness - referring to "Log" in the cartoon Ren & Stimpy
(which is sampled in the track, as well as 'mudslickers')

sticky end - now this is only for those orb fans who are smokers, but here
goes..

UFOrb = big phatty spliff.. lets light it up..

starting slow, kind of chill, and very interesting as things begin to
pick up.. (oobe)
as things start to pick up, you get a bit more upbeat, and start groovin
(uforb)
the initial groove wears thin as you start to chill, and set down the big
chunky stick of dope, then attempt to grasp reality as you find yourself
deep within your mind (or within the track.. blue room)
you recieve a phone call.. its a buddy of yours.  this grabs you from
your journey in which you were attending, so you think nothing better than
to pick up that twisted morsel and start smoking once again, this time in
a great groove (towers of dub)
as you get further down this huge joint, your high becomes massively
intense, and you go into a vision (close encounters)
as your visions stop, you cant help but let out the biggest grin you've
ever let out, as you get up and start cuttin up the floor in your own solo
discotheque (majestic)
as your body starts to tire, you sit back down and grab what is left of
your spliff, just in time for the STICKY END!
