Canadian UFOff release date is October 20th, yes, in about a week! and yes, the double!!
I'll believe it when I see it, but I do believe it's earlier than the US release, which is the reverse of the usual.
Yay!

According to DotMusic (www.dotmusic.com), the new album entered the
charts faster than a speeding bullet, before finally resting at No. 38
in the Top 40!
Hurrah!

Perhaps this money making opportunity has backfired on Island?
I can't see sales picking up too much from LFC 98, although I'm betting
that will reach the Top 20 of the singles chart.
Any thoughts?

Another thing that makes me think it WILL come out is that MTV have it
on their playlist at the moment, I haven't seen it so don't know whether
its the 98 video (i.e. a new one) or the old one.

Hi,
Sorry for not paying attention, but is there any difference between the LFC
98 mentioned above, and the LFC promo people have been talking about? Feel
free to email me privately if you don't want to clutter the list.

Subject: (orb) Rare Orb Remix CD?
Greetings all,
I'm new to the list and would welcome any comments as to how rare the
following CD is.
Titled "The Orb, various mixes 90-93" it contains the following:
Spanish Castles in Space
Satellite Serenade
Towers of Dub
Waterford Remix
Robinson Crusoe
U.F.Orb
Orbular Bells
All tracks are full length and mixed together with excellent sound
quality. It seems to have been marketed by "Chop Em Out", based in
London. It was sold to me by a well known second hand record store as:
"various mixes 1990-93, rare studio only CD featuring 7 Orb mixes. This
is mega rare - promo 274"
Is it a rarity, or just a bootleg? Any comments would be gratefully
received...
regards'n'little fluffy clouds
Peter

Anyone else want to expand on this project / rumor? There's nothing in
Lazlo's discography, so what's the haps?
Speaking of Brian Eno, I heard someone mention that the steel guitar on
"Chill Out" could have been from Eno's "Apollo," but it sounds to me like
it'a all sampled from Presley's "In the Ghetto." Anyone know for sure? I'm
a huge fan of steel guitar which makes both "Apollo" and "Chill Out"
favorite albums of mine, can anyone recommend any other albums that have
heavy steel guitar on them without being pure country?
Thanks a million,

If you like Erasure there is a remix of Blue Savannah (I think it's the Mark
Saunders remix) that has steel guitar all through it. I thought of the KLF
the first time I heard it. I think it's quite good.

Skidoo here,
I sent an e-mail to the list. I didn't get it so here it is again.
I'm looking for a copy of "U.F.Orb" on vinyl. If you have one or maybe a
copy of "adventures beyond" on vinyl. I will trade my copy of "ULTRAWORLD
EXCURSIONS"
for a copy of either record in good condition. (no scraches!) (If you have a
copy of U.F.Orb with the vinyl "Patterns and Textures" that would be the one
I'm really looking for.) It's an Caroline version. So the paint is coming
off. It plays perfectly and is in near mint condition. No mail card tho' as
I sent that in. Didn't get anything back however. :::::::Serious Offers

===>Two come to mind, both by Pink Floyd: Meddle ("One of These
Days") and Dark Side of the Moon ("Breathe").
Oh, and the Stray Cats do a tune called "18 Miles to Memphis" from
the album, Rant 'n' Rave With the Stray Cats...which is bascially
rockabilly, but may be too close to country, I suppose....

If you're in Sacramento (or just visiting!) you must try THE BEAT on J
Street. They've always got lots of interesting goodies - that's where I
got my "1987" CD oh so many years ago before I learned about the Marshall
connection. :) They stock loads of imports, both albums and singles, and
be sure to check out their clearance imports too!
I haven't been there since I moved to the Bay Area, which probably means
they still have everything that only I would have bought. :)
Thanks,

The soundtrack to the movie "Sling Blade" has steel guitar in it. It's
written by Daniel Lanois who co-wrote Apollo with both Eno's. A good part
of the album is ambient and the rest is sort of countryish (yes, a vert
strange mix). But I think, overall, it's worth getting. Rent the movie
first, if you haven't seen it yet.

Hate to be a tease but I have my copy of UF ORB (two discs) still sealed
in its
plastic package. This would be the limited version with the "Live at

Thoughts? Hmmm, from my point of view, from the amount of people I have
personally introduced the orb to, plus the fact that virtually all of my
friends thought they were excellant at the Reading Festival, I reckon that
LFC would probably sell quite well, it reached number 10 in 93, I think it
would do better second time round as it's always the track that Radio One
play if they do play an orb track, about summer time last year, R1 played
LFC loads of times, it was quite wierd, I made me think they were releasing
it again, but now they I can't wait!

Hang on, have you only just heard UF Orb? What?
By the way, Charlie, the tapes are still waiting to be posted, just run out
of money again though, I had a rather expensive party last Friday and also
bought UF Off as well, I've seen the video but I only want it if it comes
with the free CD, can anyone help me with this?

Let's just do a check, I have the double cd, right, on the back page of the
booklet does it have that round logo on it with the spaceship finger, and
the names of the orb members going around the edge? If it does, there is
nothing wrong with you booklet.
I bought mine from Virgin Megastore for =A316.99.

no, I didn't like the fact that it didn't have the single version of Oxbow
Lakes, the secret mix of it a few minutes after the end of the cd is quite
frankly, crap.
To me it's a load of noise, and I think it's rather messy for the orb's
high quality.

What's the current status of the Orb Audio Archive, anyway?
We need a good, solid, stable site where we can store MP3's (and RealAudio)
of rare Orb stuff. I would be the first contributor - I've got FFWD,
Aubrey, Orbscure Trax, and other stuff. I wouldn't mind MP3's of it all and
uploading it if we just had somewhere to store the stuff.
Any ideas?
Send me e-mail.
Thanks,

Interesting Orb mention in the November issue of CMJ New Music... Techno

"Hailing from Amsterdam, Yaco Vyn, who works under the moniker Silicon
Attic, produces and spins an aggressive mix of techno, breakbeat and trance.
"The Gas," which is a bit softer than his typical fare, is taken from the
compilation _More Signs Of Life_ (Blue Room Americas), which also features a
remix by techno lords in The Orb. Vyn will have his debut LP released early
next year."

So, are you looking for CDs or Vinyl? I only buy CDs, so I can't vouch
for any store's Orb Vinyl collection, but for CDs:
Amoeba Music is in more ways than one a Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Entity
Which Recently Divided And Now Rules From The Centre Of Berkeley And San
Francisco! (I guess these 2 cities must be the Ultraworld ;)
Seriously, the enormous Amoeba Music at the end of Haight street, on the
East end of Golden Gate Park has the best collection of used and rare CDs
in the area, and also has the best prices. The Berkeley Amoeba Music on
Telegraph is also great, but they've been pulling good stuff from that
store to get the SF store started, so the SF store is currently better.
Both Amoebas have a lot of Vinyl, but I can't rate it...
Most of the other stores in SF pale in comparison, especially for Orb
stuff.
Rasputins in Berkeley on Telegraph (1 block from Amoeba) is as big as
Amoeba, but higher priced, more disorganized, and has a worse selection of
used stuff.
Mod Lang on University by Shattuck in Berkeley ismainly good for new
imports on CD and Vinyl - I know that they have UFOff on both Vinyl and
CD...
There you go, good luck!

Bassix is the _most expensive_ place in vancouver, by far. They've had a
regular copy of Orbus sitting in their CD case since the day of the
release. $31 canadian. Back when Orbus was released, I got it for $14.

Sup!
Got my copy of UFOff today. Absolutely perfect, except the segue
between Pomme Fritz and Toxygene.
Those samples in Mickey Mars, though, are definitely, undeniably,
unquestionably from the same disc Enigma used for Return to Innocence.
I know it for sure. The vocals are identical (as I sit here and
transfer back and forth from my computer to my stereo where one and the
other are both playing).
IDENTICAL.

I just wanted to vent my frustration to the list about U.F.Off being
released with the limited edition disc in other countries. Before the
initial UK release, I heard it was limited to something like 10,000 or
15,000 copies, and ONLY the UK release would have the second disc. Now,
After special ordering the UK release and $35 later, I hear that the ltd.
edition is going to be released in Canada and the US, making my
hard-to-get-here-in-the-US copy of the UK ltd ed. release less of an
accomplishment. Is this some scheme by the label to hype up the initial
release and get guys like me to run out and buy it right away so the damn
thing gets on the charts for a week? After telling all of my Orb friends
that they HAVE to get this UK release because they won't have the
opportunity to get the 2nd disc in the much cheaper US release, I'm gonna
look like a fool when they're browsing the Orb section and see an $18 copy
of the same set.
OK, I'm done now, and to be perfectly honest, I would have shelled out the
extra cash to get it a month earlier anyways -- it's just a principle thing.
PS - Thanks, everyone, for all the tips on albums with good steel guitar,
but nobody's said anything about Orb vs. Eno?
