If I had one point I was trying to make, it would be there is a
qualitative difference between the earlier and later stuff that allows
me to toss Ultraworld and UFOrb into one bucket, and Pomme and Orbus
into another ( singles, re-mixes, live, and peel sessions aside ).
Those "easy relationship with both music and sound" are very appealing
and placid; however the excessive and traditionally unrelated sonic
layers of Orbus are extremely monotonous to me. I guess Ultra-UFOrb
represents a goof balance of ambiance and musical direction.
Maybe I should smoke a bowl, put on the black light, and lounge to Orbus
:)

I bought Peel Sessions ( Strange Fruit ) from Tower a few years ago. I
don't know if that's the same disk your referring to, as there is no 2
anywhere on the sleeves. But if that's the one, it isn't that rare here
in the NY area.

Oh yea that would be cool, that's one of the really cools things about the
earlier Orb tracks, because they were in a sense modular the Orb could mix
them to suit, anything, the newer stuff is more like traditional tracks
rather than extensions to an albums theme. Then again I must admit I have
played "a huge ever to death lately", I'm sure LX must have more than enough
material for a complete CD mix though. I remember reading that Slug Dub was
a 45 minute mix that was cut down.

I have been lucky enough to find a copy (on vinyl no less!) of the new
sun electric while digging around in Vacouver BC (canada) and it is
really satisfing in a way that few things - even some orb things are! It
is called 'Present'. My copy was made in Belgium & comes with this code:
5 411659 90431C
It is just really lovely. It has an orb like 'sweet spot' when driving,
or sweeping or sleeping!
I also found a single related to this release which is quite tasty too.
I have not seen 'present' *at all* in where I live (Seattle).
Since Sun Electric worked with Orb on the little record 'pomme fritz' I
thought it was fair game for the list.
Has anybody elese seen or heard this release?

Wow!
I ordered the Spherical CD from Sean mainly to support the people
on the list who I have come to think of as friends. I never expected
such a level of quality. As Sean said earlier, there is an amazing
amount of diversity in the tracks included. Several tracks are very
well done, and the entire CD has a very professional feel to it.
The packaging is also very nice. Congratulations to all involved.
A very worthy tribute indeed.
Hey, Smiley - did you order your copy yet? I'd love to hear Andy's
reaction to an Orb tribute album compiled by list members.

find out how remarkably different the version of Star 6 & 789 is.)

Ohh... Yes... This is a great album...! It's tough setting it up to listen
to, but once you get it going... It's pretty damn amazing. I really like
the song about the Dying vegtables looking for fresh soil... That song is so
great. There's this really cool keyboard part that surrounds you, and
suddenly out of one stereo comes this crazy drum solo.. And eventually grows
into all the stereos...
And some of the songs where he sings on all the discs, is really cool and
spine tingling. Because the discs will be slightly out of sync, it sounds
like his voice is swimming around you... kinda like a spirit...
Great to listen to LOUD!!!!
Unfortunately I don't listen to it too much because it's a whole deal to set
up.. and you should be with one or more people when listening to it.
Maybe one day the orb would do an experiment similar to this.
What I'd like to see is have a bunch of tracks but could be played in any
order. Such as One time maybe i can Listen to Track 1 on CD one, Track 5 on
CD 2, Track 3 on CD 3.. ect... and then change them around next time you
listen to it.. or put on all the CD players on random... So you can get a
new arrangement every time.. Now that would be really cool.. That's
something I could see the Orb Doing..

Thanks Rich. You don't know how much this means to me. I've worked really
hard to make sure it was of the best quality possible. Even though the
results are great, I still think there was so much more that could have been
done. But due to the amount of time it was taking, and Money (not to mention
all the people wondering if it will ever come out), I had to leave it with
what it is now. Which In no way i believe is short of professional.
For you who are interested to obtain a copy please e-mail me.
Or for you Chicagoans, you can pick it up at the following record stores.
Reckless Records
Armaggedon's
Evil Clown
And please.. Support the musicians who are primarily responsible for such a
great album to exsist.
Thanks

Hi,
actually PRESENT is not that new... It was released back in 1996.
I have the CD version of the album (AMB 6943 CD) made in Austria.
Well, I don't like "ambient" releases on vinyl, because every time
you lie down on the floor and relax it makes *KrzzzzTonKkk* and
you have to turn the record hehehe...
SUN ELECTRIC releases are also hard to find here in Germany, although
SE is a german project and they are located in Berlin hehehe... Strange!
But now let's talk about the album... Maybe it's not their best album (I prefer
Kitchen)
but it's worth buying for sure. It's more instrumental than The ORB because they
don't
use that much samples but it's very trippy. But Alex rulz! Nothing even gets
close...
cheers,
Michael

Whoa! you're evaluating the orb in terms of music theory? granted,
traditional harmonies are something they do, but dude, that's not the half
of it. what keeps me coming back to the orb and good dub is the easy
relationship with both music and sound. challenge: record any sound. any
at all. from radio, your body, household appliances...listen to it a
couple times...now think, would this fit in an orb track? if you're
answer's not yes, think again. the genius isn't a songwriting type of
mindset at all, it's way easier than that. (these guys are potheads, at
least lx...would you really expect anything more than three chords?) i
could fill pages trying to point at what the orb is (as if i knew), but
i don't think conventional, or even classical, songwriting is something
they're up to (selected moments aside...).
have i missed your point?

DVD would be very cool. I'm dying to here someone like The Orb release a

Vision Four 5 did that sort of thing for the last quarter of their CD
'Humid'. The track was called "Lighting the fire of oneness in a furrow
between two waves of the mercurial sea"...it was great.
I think ORB could do it well...and not make it seem gimmicky. They play in
Surround at live shows don't they????

Actually, as far as I know, the Strange Fruit "Peel Sessions" is actually
Peel Sessions #1 - there was another one released on Island in 1994
or 1995... I've come across the Strange Fruit Peel Sessions often, but
have only once come across the other one (and was too dumb to buy

Well, this can get a bit confusing. Both Peel Sessions albums were put out
by Strange Fruit. The first one was distributed by Dutch East
(DE-18119-2). The second was not (SFRCD138). The spine of the second says
"John Peel Sessions." For all the other pertinent info check the discog.
May the Orb be with you!

I forgot to mention. The second disc was never released here in the US.
And I can pick up a copy of the first if anybody is interested. Let me
know if you are.

Sorry about the crossposting..but I figured a few(maybe more) people from
each list would be interested in what I've done:
I've taken all the interviews and/or videos I've recorded over the years and
put what I wanted to save on one tape...Here's what's on it(in order):
Orbital: Halcyon, The Saint(2nd version I believe..the one w/ the 9
different screens), The Box
Meat Beat Manifesto: Helter Skelter '97, Interview on 120 Minutes("120
Minutes of Nothing), Asbestos Lead Asbestos
Orb: Perpetual Dawn
Electronic: Interview of Marr and Sumner on 120 Minutes, Forbidden City,
Disapointed
Pet Shop Boys: West End Girls
New Order: World
Electronic: Feel Every Beat
New Order: Regret
Electronic: Getting Away With It
Pet Shop Boys: Opportunities
FSOL: We Have Explosive
Orb: Asylum
Coldcut: More Beats & Pieces
Moby: James Bond Theme, Interview on 120 Minutes(1st time), That's When I
Reach For My Revolver
Pop Will Eat Itself: Interview of Clint on 120 Minutes("120 Minutes of
Nothing"), Ich Bin Ein Auslander
Public Enemy: Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos, Bring The Noise(w/ Anthrax)
A few words..I don't exactly have the best editing tools..so there are
mistakes here and there..but every video is there(in all their entirety,
almost)..Since I did get some videos from Amp..some of the videos of their
weird mix/spin on it. Anyways..if anyone wants a dub of this..I'll be glad
to make them(sorry though..you'll get the whole thing..I don't have time to
take out bits and pieces for people)..I'm just asking for a few dollars(to
cover getting blank tapes and s/h)...Also..if anyone sees videos not here
but have them in their possesion(for example, Moby's "Go" or the first
version of "The Saint")..I'd be glad if I could get them :)..No copyrighted
material though..I'm still debating whether I want to put the MBM videos
from the Black Box Video Comp on a tape...Anyways..email me privately..and
we'll get this thing going...Thanks.
BTW, another tape is in the process..the EBN video remix of Coldcut's
"Timber" was on Amp recently..I want to save that. Lastly, if anyone has
questions..don't be afraid to ask :).

Damn right! Easily my favourite Orb record by a long way. The new stuff
is okay, but doesn't really do it for me.

This confuses me a little - what *kind* of surround? As in what kind of
gear do I need to extract the four (or more?) channels?
Thanks.

The rare peel sessions or peel sessions 2 has oobe, no fun, montagne
d'or, and valley. It's fairly rare in that it's difficult to find just
at any store, but if you check the web, I'm sure you'll find many
copies. In my opinion, only the oobe sounds very good. I like the album
versions of the Orbus stuff better and no fun sucks.

umm, Dolby Surround....i assume?
so, i guess a Pro-Logic amp, or something along those lines (plus requisite
speakers) should do the trick...

For those with Dolby Surround & Pro Logic...
I listen to all my music in full surround...but how many of you with
surround sound use your center channel?
I listen with it on but some people like it off or just really quiet...I
thought the center chan was for movies only, but some electronic stuff
sounds super with it on.
Thoughts??
