Date: 01 Jul 1999 15:33:53 EDT
OOBE gives me an oobe every time
especially the old AND new pool mix
anyone else care to comment on the extreme difference between these two songs
with the exact same names?
In the newer one , I get an oobe and all of the sudden I am a futuristic pool
hall located in some space-hub........
during the older version , i am transported to an ancient
ritual ceremony....it is nighttime , and there are people and spirits dancing
around a huge fire.....tribal drums everywhere.
Uh Oh..................I can feel an OOBE coming on right now , here at
work..........where will I go this time ?
........ and what will they think when I am slumped over in my chair mumbling
about a time long forgotten?

Hi!
I have been gone for months now so now that I am back I was wondering
what is going on with the Orb right now?? What's going on with their new
stuff? Anything?
Also I am looking for Anthology and Morphology. Those are 2 that
I don't have. Are they any good? Maybe someone can copy them for
me, I can trade something of mine.
Sorry for the dumb questions, I haven't been around.
Thanks!
=)

thank you very much for participating in my research project. You really
helped me a lot, since I didn't have too much data before. I gave my report
yesterday and everything worked out pretty good.
Last but not least: Any news concerning the release of the ORB's new album?

However, I've developed quite a tolerance to it lately so perhaps I should
experiment a little.

maybe it's a terrible shame - but could someone PLEASE fill me in on
what an OOBE is. I never knew the title of first track from UFOrb had a

It's an acronym actually: Out of Body Experience. An OOBE itself can be
difficult to describe, as it's a rather broad term, but often associated with a
feeling of floating or travelling outside the body.
It falls in well with the extraterrestrial feel of UFOrb. ;]
Enjoy the trip,

Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but thought someone might
be interested that Kris Weston / Thrash is thanked on the absolutely and
completely superb new Plaid album, "Rest Proof Clockwork"...
Big Orb influence in parts as well, "Ralome" sounds like something
straight off "Chill Out" and "Buddy" could have slotted seamlessly into
"U.F.Orb" what with it being an excellent slice of ambient dub.
Anyway, thought some of you may be interested,
Chris.

Wow, I'm sitting here reveling in the lack of Orb list messages. Since
there's no real thread going aside from the bios thread, I'll ask those
dire questions I've been meaning to get off of my chest. Now, what were
they?
Oh yes, thanks to Sergio I've gotten the chance to listen to 'Once More'
and I must say it has grown on me, I like hearing it but to each his own.
Pertaining to this track my question is; Will this be the first single off
of Cydonia? [did I spell that right?] And who can we expect to be doing
remixes? Also, one of the tracks Sergio put on the CD with 'Once More' was
the film mix of 'Oxbow Lakes'. Anyone have any info on this? He told me
that he got it off the web, and that was about all he knew. It is a pretty
good remix, but leaves me wondering...
Lastly, can anyone recommend a good starting off point for Gong?
Thanks for your time and please remember to listen to the ORB...

I hope somebody on the list has had the oppritunity to see the Orb in Japan.
I imagine that the live Orb experience in the orient must be astounding!!!
I have seen the Orb only in my home state of Florida. Can some "Orbie"
out there explain what the venhue / event / site is like for these mythical
"Mt. Fuji Festivals"????? Thereis another one coming up and I feel left
out. Besides this Damn Fl heat is getting my scrambled brain to thinking
about moving soon to chiller environments.
Please take it slow this summer. Think of Orb while drinking iced teas.

well, I'm currently studying in japan, but I'm probably not going to frf,
because it costs $350 for all three days of the festival, and at last
check, the orb gig is still TBA... This years frf is going to probably be
the biggest rock festival ever... it's being held at a ski resort (off
season), and is featuring over 100 bands covering every possible genre.
Pretty much everyone's favorites will be there. The big deal this year is
Phish is playing a 3 day show on a stage built just for them in a valley
called fields of heaven. I'm really ticked that I cant afford the tickets
as it seems this will be one for the record books.

Well, I've seen The Orb in 97' for the Rainbow 2000 festival in Mount Fuji,
I have to say it was the worst Orb concert I've seen... EVER !
Not because of the lads (who did a good job), but because of the REALLY bad
weather during the whole show.
Fog everywhere, rain, storm ! And it was on July !
We also had lots of trouble to come back to Tokyo because no one accepted
Credit Card !
Hopefully, we saw Andy for a few minutes : he told me he didn't enjoy the
gig, he had problems with his gear.
That's it for my Orb Fuji Experience...

it was from a Radio 1 web site back in 1991/92, afair.
there were various 'web-only' mixes available as part of a promotion. they
were only there for a few weeks, and then disappeared.

Subject: (orb) origin of huge evergrowing
Date: 08 Jul 1999 09:49:24 EDT
13. What is a Huge Evergrowing Brain, as described by the song with the same
name?
The huge evergrowing brain we speak of has a past/origin
which I believe has escaped many. Thank you for letting me
tell the story , and I welcome any
corrections by Alex or Jimmy.
---origin of "a huge evergrowing brain" --- A very long time ago ,
on a planet different , but not entirely unlike ours....
there was a race of humanoids who excelled in all areas of life.
They were prosperous and peaceful with a desire for learning
and understanding.
Little did the people know of the horrible
truths that lay below the surface of their seemingly innocent lives.
In the quest for perfection , the leaders and scientist of this race
performed genetic experiments in order to better and further their people.
Many of these were failed attempts at creating an advanced creature
with impoved mental or physical powers. As a result ,
many horribly mutated beings and creatures were created ,
and seen by the people , rejected by their brothers and sisters.
These sorrowful beings were cast away to live underground ,
in barren wastelands , and dense forests far from normal civilization.
One of the experiments however , was a human brain.
This brain operated at extremely high levels , and was constantly
evolving with any chance the scientists gave it.
The brain started to grow , gaining intelligence and size exponentially ,
outsmarting its creators , yet having no mobility.
The scientists had created a monster they didnt know how to do away with ,
so they built a huge platform far away , out in the ocean.........thinking
they were disposing of their failed attempt , they left the brain to expire.
Little did they know that expire it didnt , and thinking they had
rid of their experiment was the worst mistake they could have made.
Now , the brain has opened a hole in time ,
able to control the future ,
by affecting the past ,
draining it of human life......The one thing it needs to grow and survive.

Wow, this is shockingly coincidental to the history of Divinia!
It's not exactly Orb-related, but the site was developed by Orb
fans, and features a strange and prosperous subterranean race
prone to genetic experimentation....

I've got an idea for Universal Island Bollocks.
a) Split the album in 3 CD X 2 Singles to be released every two months.
That's for the fans...
b) release the entire album in Xmas 99. That way, the large public will
have the possibility to get all the tracks from the singles (minus the
remixes) on one CD.
I hope "Cydonia " wont be the real title of the next Orb album. It's not
very clever...
The Orb should release some tracks under a hidden name on a little label.
Or remixes... I'm Orb starved !!!! :)

hey smiley -
i can't believe it! i almost coughed up me corn
flakes! pass this sentiment along to mr. hughes tha
next time ya see him if you please - it's obvious that
the new universal-island configuration is gonna have
little time for our beloved semi-trio. u-i is just
buying time to figure out how to screw 'em. sad, but
true.
many u.s. artists however are learning how to bypass
these bastard labels by offering their new material
via mp3.com and other online outlets. the labels
aren't happy about it, but artists like tom petty and
public enemy are allowing their FANS (who they realize
are more important than these corporate fuckers)
access to their material.
the orb seem perfect for this type of medium. the
album is for all intents and purposes DONE, so why
not? i realize that lx prolly h8s getting involved in
the biz aspect of it, but he should take a note from
frank zappa and use the system to HIS advantage
instead of the labels'. do you think that it's
impossible to get rare imports here in america because
of island's gung-ho promotional team? ha! it's because
they have an extremely loyal fan base that's gonna
seek out their material NO MATTER WHOSE FUCKIN' LOGO
IS EMBOSSED ON THE SLEEVE OR WHAT MEDIUM THROUGH WHICH
IT IS DELIVERED. i seriously doubt whatever copies of
u.f. off that sold in the u.s. sold becuz island was
able to place a 1/8 page ad in rolling stone or spin
or whatever.
the orb has always been a 'band' that relied on
independence of thought. mebbe a little independence
of action wouldn't be a bad idea.
or mebbe it's 'cos i got the news b4 my first bong hit
of the day. i like all of u just love the orb and h8
to see 'em (and us) get the 'sticky end.'
now where's that damn bong?!

===>Or maybe they should take ANOTHER cue from Zappa:
Maybe the Orb should have a "Parental Advisory--
Explicit Lyrics" label slapped on all their albums, just to
boost sales.... ;-)
According to Frank Zappa in his autobiography, the only
album of HIS that ever got a Parent Advisory sticker was
his Grammy Award-winning album, Jazz From Hell--and
it was 100% instrumental!!! :-)
I believe it was his best selling album ever...or one of the
best selling....
Later!

Weatherall is god like though...
As far as I can tell, when he played the Haywire residency in Nottingham
it was a Two Lone Swordsmen thing so it was 5 hours of scary, tuff
electro and techno.
However, the "Live @ The Social" volume 3 mix album was released
recently and Andy's disc was chock full of deep, deep, deep house.
Mind you, I got a tape of him DJ'ing at the Social from a few years ago
which is a wonderful mix of reggae, hip-hop and The Clash...
Basically, your guess is as good as anyone's, though I'd expect a more
housey set if he's on his tod as opposed to with Keith.

just a little clarification wanted...
in smiley's last infoblast we learned that cydonia's release had been
pushed back because of some issues with record company...but didn't it say
something about the "US release has been pushed back"? may have mis-read
that, or misunderstood ('course i foolishly deleted it now, so i can't
check)...but if that's the case, does it mean it'll get released as
scheduled for september in the UK? that wouldn't be such bad news..i'd
deal with import prices for new orb :)
also mocker.org OAA site should be back pretty soon (hopefully) better
than ever...

Is it anygood? Is it a bad copy, bootleg or a board plugged 'relish it

Spanish castles in space 13'18"
Little fluffy clouds 8'03"
The blue room 11'25"
Towers of dub 8'51"
Star 6&789 4'11"
Earth gaia 14'00"

Is this worth the 30,000lire (18$) or much less?

I can heartily recommend Penguin Records just off Queen St. W., across

Two things at a local vancouver record shop just showed up (well, 3, but I
bought one ;-P )
Orbvs Terrarvm Promo Vinyl (4xLP?)
LFC '98 (very good condition!) (3?xLP)
i already have a copy of the latter, so i figured i'd offer to pick it up for
someone on the list.. it's $12.99 + 14% tax (so about $15?) canadian, plus
shipping, but i won't add anything to pick it up.
i think the orbvs promo is $30 or something, but i can double check if someone's
interested... that's why it's not in my collection ;-)
keep in mind that these prices are in CANADIAN dollars, and thus are consider-
ably less when translated into US$..
(for anyone in vancouver, it's at Otis records on davie street, around bute.)

Seems like I see it for $10 to $12 every so often. I don't think its
considered that rare yet. (Like the CD single versions) It's often listed
in catalogs I've received from British mail order shops. If it's a must

Orbitians,
Many music sites are owned or run by someone with a
direct interest in a product. SonicNet and MTV,
WallOfSound and Disney, and now CDnow and Sony Inc.
All magazines are influenced by its advertisers.
Emailed
newsletters contain links and links of ads. And MTV?
Well...
We need a site where real music really matters.
http://www.hypeless.com/contribute/
Hello, I'm Winslow Leach. And I'd like to introduce
Hypeless.com, the site where YOU become an inside
source. Where you post your thoughts an opinions under
a nom de plume. As a result, you can say anything
you'd like.
I've been on a number of mailing list for some time
(Orb-Digest included, of course), and there are a
select few getting this email, because you care, but
mostly because your genre or band is not getting the
attention and respect it deserves.
We'd like to change that.
winslow@hypeless.com
For a long time, hypeless.com has heard you gripe
about what is not getting enough attention. We know
you like good stuff. Here's your chance to talk about
it.
We officially go live with your news at
http://www.hypeless.com July 19, 1999. Take 5 minutes
this weekend and contribute:
http://www.hypeless.com/contribute/
So far, as a result of mass emailings to industry
insiders and fans like yourself, we have gotten
hundreds of submissions. News/reviews/stories dealing
with U2, Eric Bachmann, Orbital, Kim Deal, Modest
Mouse, Chemical Brothers, Sheila Divine, Cafe Tacuba,
2 Lone Swordsmen, Guided By Voices, Sunny Day Real
Estate, Sleater-Kinney, Sonic Youth, the Killingtons,
and many more.
We'd like to hear what you have to say.
I'm asking you to become a founding source for a new
web site, a site where what you write is shown to the
world and industry insiders... anonymously.
winslow@hypeless.com
This is the way it works: You hear of some hot news,
You hear a record advance, You see a show. You have an
encounter with the music industry.
Then: You write about it. However you'd like. Rant,
poem, punctuationless, spell-checkless, without
commas. I don't care, write like you feel.
Finally: You submit it to Hypeless, either through the
web site: http://www.hypeless.com/contribute/ or by
emailing me.
I recommend emailing me. (winslow@hypeless.com)
For the skeptics, I'd like to restate the authenticity
of the site. We are not out to make a profit, not out
to capitalize on my contributors. Hypeless is a site
where insiders can speak honestly about the industry,
the music and independence. You get information on
tour dates? New albums? Events? Share them with
Hypeless.
Hypeless.com is an Independent site for new music
news. And we'd like to highlight the kind of music you
work with and love.
Hypeless.com is a site centered around a group of
music fans who live within the music industry. We are
looking to post news and information about bands and
albums with a clear intention: to change the industry.
You must give me an alias. NO ONE will know who you
are. From now on, you contribute as that alias,
contribute to a new paradigm in the industry,
contribute to the beginning of the revolution. You
become a SOURCE.
winslow@hypeless.com
Whatever you'd like. I trust you. The world will read
your news. Your taste. Your true passions. And they
won't know it's you.
Ready to change things? Ready to influence thousands
of people? Let's do it.

rundown of exactly what we're up to. Please contact me

0:1 :: [FAQ] What is Hypeless?
Hypeless is a Web site where you can post any
congruent, relevant story you'd like -- and have the
world see it.
If you'd like, it can be done under an alias, so you
are allowed the freedom to say what you'd like.
The site is divided up into four categories: News,
(P)reviews, Live and Encounters. Pick a category and
write your latest experience, maybe a new CD, a live
show, a first-person approach -- we'll print it.
And please, feel free to write however you'd like. A
rant, a couplet, with or without commas. We've
misplaced our style books. Sorry.
http://www.hypeless.com/contribute/
_______________________________________
0:2 :: [FAQ] Who posts to Hypeless?
The contributors to Hypeless come from all sections of
the industry, from the CEO to the consumer. They are
journalists, music directors, devout fans, managers,
vice presidents and artists themselves. We think.
http://www.hypeless.com/contribute/
_______________________________________
0:3 :: [FAQ] Why should I post to Hypeless?
Because other sites are run by amateurs. Check into
it. All music bulletin-board type sites allow anyone
to post anything. As a result, an intelligent, pointed
contribution is lost. That is all you will find at
Hypeless.
Want to tout your favorite music, an upcoming tour or
rant about the industry? Post to Hypeless.
Let's say you had an extraordinary concert experience,
or a disappointing one. I've got an idea, post to
Hypeless.
If you'd like to review and album before unethical
print mags and misshapen Music Channels get a hold of
it, please post to Hypeless.
I bet you know something and you'd like to release the
information untainted. Am I right? Hmm... Post to
Hypeless.
http://www.hypeless.com/contribute/
_______________________________________
0:4 :: [FAQ] What makes Hypeless different from other
music sites?
Most music sites kowtow to labels for exclusive
interviews. Most music sites tread lightly within the
industry. Most music sites force-feed you hyped-up,
dry information mechanically designed. We're Hypeless.
As a contributor to Hypeless, you assert yourself and
your tastes.
http://www.hypeless.com/contribute/
_______________________________________
0:5 :: [FAQ] Can I email my contribution?
Certainly. Hypeless stakes its entire being on keeping
its sources confidential.

Rest Proof Clockwork has got it all. Ambience, Grooves, Funk, Scratches,

This is absolutely true - go get the new Plaid, it's really ace! Not as
weird as what they used to do as The Black Dog but definitely worth a
smooth drift-off. Their stuff has a "friendliness" I often find in Orb
tracks, too.
Let orb rule!

Hiya, just letting you all know I've put a spare copy of the Aubrey Mixes
up for bid on Ebay - there's no reserve price and the minimum bid is
$4.00. Nobody's bid yet. I'm just lettin' you know since I'm a listmember
and have bought some great Orb stuff courtesy of tip-offs from some of you
about things you were selling (KLF stuff, too). Who knows? Perhaps no-one
will bid on it, thinking everyone else is bidding on it, and it might end
up going for $4.50 or somesuch.
Good luck and all.

p.s. What does everyone think of the Orb's contribution to the Gary Numan
2CD tribute album? Just curious, I got it recently and think it's pretty
great.

in order for the band to continue to exist, they need to at least cover the

pity...
so...BORING LEGAL FACT ALERT...
...island/universal cannot release the album in the uk and europe without a

trust me, everyone involved with the band is as pissed off about this as

a straight european release would not be an incentive to the company to

Date: 19 Jul 1999 18:39:17 -0500
Did any of you check out the quality of the various brands of CDs that are
available to make audio copies?
I made an audio copy on a MAXWELL CD at the end of May. And over the
week-end, when I wanted to listen to it, my CD player did not recognized it
at all.
A friend of mine told me that MAXELL has the worst CDs to make audio
copies. Supposedly, VERBATIM also give suboptimal quality.
He did not have any problems with other brands of CDs so far.
Did anyone on the list find that other brands of CDs also make poor quality
audio copies?
Or, is there a brand known for its superior quality of audio copies?
Thanks,
Maggie
PS. I am talking about audio copies and NOT mp3 copies.

Also please note that most older and some newer CD players do not recognize
CD-R's at all. This is due to the different reflective properties of the
materials used in pressed original CD's and recorded CD-R's. Did the CD
in question ever work in that particular CD player?

i just don't understand how our heroes end up in these
straits - lx WORKED for a record company so it's kinda
ironic. first the whole wau/mr. modo mess, then the
u.f. off situation, now this. christ, every time
richard james wipes his arse he releases a record out
of it! i DO remember something like this happening to
orbital (i think they wanted to release their last
record last winter), but the delay was only a matter
of a couple of months. it may be related to island's
new situation. it may also be a conspiracy perpetrated
by the dread illuminati in conjunction with world
governments and aliens ... oops, too much x-files. ;)

I have experienced similar results with MAXELL even their special
"music CD-R". The best results I've had so far are with the cheap
FUJI CD-Rs, as sold in Software etc. As for the age of the players,
it doesn't seem to matter a whole lot, in fact SONY seems to have the
hardest time recognizing CD-Rs period. Incidentally, my portable
PANASONIC player, made in 1991, plays everything (it's been living
in my bathroom for the past 6 years!).

Although I'd hate to perpetuate this Off Topic Thread, i feel i need to jump
in also. Maxell's I've known to be the worse... Some Burners can't even
burn to them... And the Thing that Wierd about them, is that they change
from package to package.. Once at work we had to do a bulk Copy of CD's to
Distribute Training information. And we had been shipped a supply of 10 -
10pk of Maxell CD-R's, and Each box had a different Kind of Coating..
Silver/Blue, Green/Gold, Gold/Gold, Silver/Green. The CD-R'skept spitting
them out (almost Literally) the were complete crap.
But I use to have alot of luck with these Bulk CD's I used to get from
MEI/MicroCenter. They Were Bulk Memorex CD's for about $1.17pc. But after
about my third bulk order, they switched the Brand to Mitsumi.. And I've
been having to throw out every other disc.
Also I had an Old Panasonc that played anything..(i miss the poor sucker,
the best portable I've had, Took a bad Spill, No one makes portables like
that Anymore). And my roommate HAd a new Sony Carosel that had a hard time
playing most CD-R's (Memorex worked the best). The thing that was wierd
though. Is that he took a Disc that didn't work in his to Best Buy where
they had the same model.. And it worked...
I just think the problem is that there is a lot of sub-quality production
going on in both CD-R's and Stero Compnents (Sony's consumer line tends to
be the worst, I've never seen a sony portable last longer than a year).

I dont recall seeing this here yet, but the August 99 issue of Future Music

Included within is a 90 second movie clip of Andy Hughes mucking about with

similar Korg praisings from Apollo 440 and Orbital. Nothing earth shattering

Hi guys,
I was wondering if any of you have or have heard all of the CD's in the
dsotm series by Namlook and Schultz? Which are the best and would it be
worth the effort of trying to get them. I have a lead on getting the series
on CDR and was wondering what a good price for all 8 of them would be.
Thanks,
Andrew

I was reading some old digests and I have a question:
WHY DOES EVERYBODY KEEP DUMPING ON SLUG DUB?
I used to hate Orbus Terrarum when I first bought it used, but a month or so
ago I put in back into rotation and now it's one of my favorite Orbs (Valley
and Oxbow Lakes are great)--admittedly, Slug Dub's not the greatest track,
but it's not all that bad!
I was introduced to the Orb by a Borders clerk who suggested it to me
when I was looking for ambient stuff, so if he's reading this list--thenk
you veddy much....

I personally love that song. One of my all time faves for them.
if not for the music which is brilliant, but the pure genius of

in fact Orbvs Terrarvm is one of my fave orb albums.
incidentally, could someone tell me what the difference is between the

I'd guess that's because they are from different factories? There's a nice
page
about blank cds & factories and quality etc on one of the warez pages out
there.
don't remember the url offhand, but you should be able to find the link via
http://www.gamecopyworld.com (or .org .net or whatever. don't have my
bookmarks
handy). very interesting page. don't remember if I read on that page or
somewhere
else that aparently it's better to write audio cds at higher speeds
otherwise you
might end up with lower quality (both because of media and because at lower
speed,
the head is longer on same space with lot of heat, and can cause the
chemicals to
muck up a bit *shrug* all I know is, that my traxdata 4120 cdr reads audio
at up to
12x speed, at no loss of quality... I was impressed when I bin compared the
same
track ripped twice and got NO differences between the 2 wav, I was also
impressed
when it ripped the tracks of a badly damaged squarepusher cd I had which I
could
not play on other players, and there was NO drop in sound quality, and no
errors
or hiccups that I could hear (!). I do all my writes at 4x speed, no probs.
I've mostly used traxdata gold & silver cds and pioneer silver (because I
could
get them fairly cheap here :) and have had no problems with them at all so
far.
>about my third bulk order, they switched the Brand to Mitsumi.. And I've
mitsumi or mitsui? (there is a difference :) I havn't seen mitsumi cds yet.
but
mitsui *shudder* I havn't had problems burning mitsui cds, but I and other
people
I know have had problems with them being recognised in some cdroms :P
(branded
mitsui gold, in case someone was wondering)
(my setup: my old p133, 32mb of ram, 1.2gb ide quantum fireball hd,
traxdata 4120
pro scsi cdr with an advansys scsi controller (fast or ultra, I forget, it
was part
of the 4120 package), win95 osr2 & Nero v4.something_recent. works like a
charm.
aparently the cdr drive is a teac cdr55s, which ranks quite highly amongst
copy fiends ;) *coughcough*
>I just think the problem is that there is a lot of sub-quality production
>going on in both CD-R's and Stero Compnents
sadly I agree :( cheap labor, cheap parts, cheap productions, cheap
everything.
then again, I tend to think that they sorta do it on purpose, because if
they all
made robust quality stuff, then they'd run out of customers soon... why not
make it
cheap so you can sell the people the same product many times over and keep
the money
rolling in? let the buyer beware...
that's one reason why certain companies are small and make quality products
in low
volumes. they make quality items which last and they care about customer
satisfaction. it also serves as a great indirect advertising.
>(Sony's consumer line tends to be the worst, I've never seen a sony portable
>last longer than a year).
think about it, it makes sense. I forget who said it or where (maybe on
irc?) but
some guy had bought 3 discmans in 3 years, because never lasted more than a
year
each. geez, they sold him the same product 3 times, because it was "cheap".
if it had been of decent "lasts-a-lifetime" quality product, they'd only
been able
to sell it to him once...

The company that made these, Volume, stopped producing new things in any
of their series in 1996 or thereabouts. They were up to 17 in their
regular Volume series, 5 on Trance Europe Express, 2 on Trance Atlantic
Express, 1 on Trance Pacific Express, 2 on Breakbeat Science, and a
bunch of one-offs.
Oddly enough, there's still a web page for them. It hasn't been updated
since they stopped producing, but it has lots of track listings and
such, so it's a decent resource. They produced a lot of top stuff; it's
a shame they're no longer in the business.

On November 15'th 1995 Alex Paterson DJ'ed in Atlanta for a radio show. I
believe this broadcast was also played live at a club the same night - could
be wrong about that. The radio station was 88.5 WRAS
The set opens with the Bonanza theme song, the next track has someone
saying "ROUGH" every so often in a really low voice. (sounds to 'rough'
like me anyway) The second side has the original track the Blue Room vocal
lines were ripped from (I believe so anyway) and an interview with Alex .
I'm DESPERATELY LOOKING FOR THIS SET. I've had 2 copies so far....the first
one was recorded very well (for a cassette with little hiss) This tape
broke a long time ago - and since then I've aquired another copy. This
second copy is horrible. Way too much hiss and you basically need to BLAST
your stereo to hear the music. Too much hiss for me.
Nevertheless I've just found my "bad" copy of this set and would really like
to replace it with better recording. I hope to burn the set onto CD so I
won't have to worry about my car stereo eating my favorite tape again.
Just so everyone knows I'm sending this message to the orb mailing list and
I've bcc'ed the 2 names that were printed on the cassette JCARD (on the
original , good quality copy)
If you have a good quality copy of this set or know who does please email me

I have two different 12" singles of "Hotel California" by Jam On The Mutha.
The first is On M&G Records. Cat. # MAGXR 3 from the UK. It has the "Orb In
Cali Mix" and "Orbitally Ambient Mix". The second one is on Logic Records,
cat. no. 613.494 from Germany. It has the "Ibiza '90 Mix" and a instrumental
mix ( or "version" side as us old reggae collectors call it) Both are listed
in Lazlo's Orb Disc orb aphy. There are also a couple of different CD singles
listed as being out there. I wasn't too popular when I played one of the
versions at a party where some people kept requesting something by the Eagles.

It's not a disc, it's a tape. I don't think it's widely circulated, and it
hasn't been bootlegged to CD that I know of. "Music To Funk To" is on the
Anthology II/Ultra Rare Trax 3/Visitor boots, though.

Despite all of that, I still like the Orb. I have the most recent album of

I'm also curious if the French Single of Toxygene has a different
cover and 4 different remixes from the regular Toxygene Singles. I have been

For Nate Udel :
The French single of Toxygene has the same cover as the UK ones. It's just
printed in French "contains all the remixes", which is wrong. All the
remixes have been released before.
For Gavin Miller :
It's not Thomas (who is bald), but Fil le Gonidec (most known as Le
Gonidred), their great roadie and co-writer of Toxygene.
Hope that helps,

===>I don't know who the second dude is, but I've only seen
one picture of Thomas Fehlman (in the Trance Europe Express
booklet, I believe), and he was, well, bald. Rather dignified
looking, too, if I recall correctly (but glasses will do that to many
people).... ;-)
By-the-way, Fehlman *IS* an official Orb member, if I'm not
mistaken, starting with either Pomme Fritz or Orbus Terrarum.
He was featured on Adventures and UFOrb, too...he co-wrote
several songs on those two albums.

just to confirm JC's email, this WAS fil. he has green and red dreads.
he did co-write 'toxygene' and also worked on 'a mile long lump of lard' on
the next album...

As anyone on the Kraftwerk list can probably testify, "New-release-is-coming"
information gets into the computers a lot faster than "new-release-isn't-

There is a special chemical you can get called something like "GooOff"
(I distinctly remember "Goo" being in the name.) This stuff works really
well. After the techno fad wore off in '92 (at least in southern california)
I bought a lot of techno and house from The Warehouse for dirt cheap because
they didn't know what they had in their hands. All of their used stuff had
HUGE stickers on them that were impossible to get off unless I used this
stuff.

This works, but a cleaner solution is simply vegetable oil (or any oil,
really) on a paper towel. The oil will soften almost any old gungy
glue, and remove it quite nicely. Less likely to leave a cloudy residue
(or even dissolve the plastic) as can happen with other strong solvents.

I'm glad someone finally came to the defense of Orblivion. While I must
agree that Orbus Terrarum is overall the best Orb album I've heard (no
one mentioned Plateau, also a classic), the more purely electronica
Orblivion is still a fave of mine. Asylum, molten love, and that last
track that has 5 minutes of silence are all great cuts. But, as my
first Orb purchase was the Asylum 2 cd box set, followed by Orblivion,
perhaps I'm a little opinionated...
By the way, I'm in Shanghai, PRC. Any chance someone can tell me where
to go to hear some good music?
Why did they call it U.F. Off?

Don't confuse GooGone with Goof Off or Goo Off. The latter contains zylene
which actually melts the plastic jewel case. It's also a very dangerous
cancer causing chemical.

Well, maybe I'm different but I've gotten many used CDs with annoying
price tag on them, and I've never resorted to using chemicals. I can
usually scrape off most of the pricetag leaving behind a little yucky
sticky residue. I then use a thin little cloth I've kept from an old
blanket and just keep rubbing it really fast. After a few seconds
the goo gets warm enough that it just rubs off. The gunk comes off
completely! This method works pretty well on paper-type cases too...
Oh well

PS, does anyone by any chance have any rare Seal songs? I've been
going nuts trying to find as much rare/live Seal stuff as possible.
Maybe it's from Orb-deprivation... =)
PPS, cool find of the week, LFO "We Are Back" CD single in the used
bin for $2. Hooray! I like the warning on the back about Tommy
Boy not being responsible for speaker damage. Coincidentally
enough, the cover artwork is of a speaker... ? Oh, it also has
a gunky sticker on it too. Time to get out the blankie!
