Subject: long time bloomin goat
Date: 04 Oct 1997 17:29:32 -0600
Heydey all-
it must have been moons and ages since I have posted anything.
where are all my old nm-l friends?? ;-)
This just has been from a lack of time, certainly not from a lack
of good noises coming out these days. This is going to be a hodge
podge post.
first off, I am thrilled with Anomalous Records, Manifold Records and
Ear Rational for having up to date catalogs and web sites at all times.
Makes it fun and easy to dig around, find new noise, and get it into my
house pronto.
I have purchased some CDs lately, all worth of XBScale reviews.
however, in the interest of time and the uninterest of others I'll keep
these real short:
Eric Lunde "When You Wish Opon a Scar" (Povertech) cd
It's hard to explain how a release of 1980's material can be my favorite cd of
1997. But it is, hands down- no contest. The mid/late '80s material of
E. Lunde, Boy Dirt Car and others holds a special place deep in my soul for
it's inventiveness, clarity of function and depth of execution. I hold E.
Lunde on a pedestal for his metal installations and tape cut wieldings.
Would someone please get to releasing all his other material (and all Boy
Dirt Car) material on cd please before it's lost forever?
XBScale = +1.0
(I think this is the first time I've given a perfect score.)
K2 "The Rust" (KMI) cd
This man has quickly become my favorite junk metal noise bomber of the
year. It clangs, clunks, whips and whurls a whole ton of iron and tin
sounding crashes around in your head. There's nothing streaming about his
releases, hell it could all be clips thrown together off the floor.
Somehow it comes off greatly expressive and torturous at the same time. I
think his previous cd titled "Metal Dysplasia" could be a bit more
gratifying, but this release holds the weight as well.
XBScale = +0.7
m/s "Pertubation Fields and the Equilibirum" (Wrk Japan) cd
sshhhhh. quiet. they are making some sounds in mid air and you can barely
hear it! actually there is a scratchy, hummy thing going on and it moves
like mollasses. perhaps a slow molecure by molecule building of some
matter heretofor undiscovered. This experiment is best digested while on
your stereo, in a large dark room with some volume. see if it can fill the
air as it barely moves. 1 track 74min and I could barely detect a single
phase change.
XBScale = +0.3
Aube "Quadrophenia" (Self Abuse) 4x7"
4 seperate colored 7" pieces of vynil in a nice box make up my favorite
Aube release in some time. a lot of Aube releases are starting to gell
together in my mind as a new land mass, but this one sticks out like Mount
McKinley.
little green vynil 7" contains my favorite aube track to date "Para-lux"
and "Cold Blinker". Some of his best electronic hole manipulations to
date, and the wet knot Aube creates on this box set it worth the annoyance
of vynil.
XBScale = +0.8
more when pigs fly.

Subject: help with Intransitive East Coast Tour!
Date: 07 Oct 1997 13:44:11 -0400 (EDT)
That's right, kids, the first ever INTRANSITIVE EAST COAST TOUR is
looking for places to play, bands to play with, and floors to sleep on. If
you would like to be a part of this historic event, this first ever forray
into the snowy unknown by two Floridian (and we accept that distinction
with a big wince, believe me) noise bands, read on:
DJ Slappy Brown and the Storm Windows
live collage for tapes and turntables by me and the Amazing Mr.Slug.
The Organ Triumphant
duo from Tallahassee, guitar and homemade gadgets.
Yes, that's right. Guaranteed entertainment and FUN for cynical arty
types... and YOU!! We would like to play with other noise bands, though
this is not neccesary. We would like to play in Atlanta on Dec 19, Chapel
Hill on either the 20th or 21st, DC or thereabouts on the 23rd, and New
York any time from the 26th til the beginning of January. If you always
dreamed of making your life useful, here's your chance! Don't miss out on
this GREAT OPPORTUNITY to have strange men make strange sounds in YOUR
hometown! Act now. I beleive in you. Really.

Gratuitous self-promotion dept.,
I am opening for a show of new music on Saturday Oct 11 at the Paradiso
Cafe at 1005 E Pike. Show starts 9ish. Following me are Kore's Lament
(solo flute I think) the Drums and Bass stylings of Wonderstump and
headlining is Ffej (combine the words fridge and wedge), a folk singer
sporting only a solo analog synth.
I'll be doing a brief set of improvised ambience on custom-burned cds.
Pretty darn sure its no cover but it might be a buck.

Subject: Intransitive Review 10/97 now available!
Date: 11 Oct 1997 15:49:49 -0400 (EDT)
The new issue is now available to any who want to know what the charming
folks at Intransitive have been listening to lately, and what we think
about it. Also, we give you tons of useful and fascinating information
about our label so that you can know where to spend that money you've got
just lying around.
To recieve this document that is indispensible to your busy urban
lifestyle (oh, how have you managed this whole time?), just ask to be added
to the list. Then, melt cheddar on some broccoli, because it is so
delicious. You might want to steam the broccoli, then melt the cheese in
the microwave. Okay. And wash those dishes already, they're going to
attract bugs.
