Could you elaborate on how a stand alone DVD player is better than using a =

difference between a $100 DVD player and a $500 one.

Playing DVD's really has nothing to do with the actual console itself in
how it is a GAMING machine. And quite frankly I have nothing against
the PS2 or Xbox but the quality of their DVD players is absolute Sh*t
compared to what you can get these days for a few more dollars.

You won't have to fight over the PS2 with your brothers;-)
From my knowledge, a $100.00 DVD player will have less quality parts and play
DVD's at a lower quality. The $500.00 player may have a better bufferer which
will not let the movie pause while it changes layers.

Well let's say you have a really nice TV, and surround sound. A game console
or a $100 DVD player will simply play DVDs. You will need a redeiver to
decode surround sound and I don't think that the game consoles would display
an image that a nice TV could display. A $500 player may decode surround
sound straight from the DVD player (depends on what on-board decoders athere
are), and would have progressive scan output, meaning your really nice TV
would be put to good use displayed an HD image. This kinda glosses over
things, I'm sure Stryder or Geoff will explain in more detail ...
