->But it comes on 2 CDs. Even if they're both only half full, you'd
->need 10 64DD disks to store the same amount of data. And you
->lose all the lovely FMV sequences. And the music.
Dincha mother tell you it isnt size that counts ;)
Size always comes up when this subject is discussed, I dont know much about it so could be talking out my arse but with PSX games surely the amount of space
available means that minimal effort is expended on compression so to say
10dd disks maybe true but thats with no compression. As for FMV yes its pretty
but if I want to watch a film then I will, real time "movies" were quite
effective (if short) in GE.
Anybody with good compression knowledge wanna comment?

->RE2 just isn't suited to the N64, a lot of the atmosphere is generated
->by the music and the cut scenes. But an N64 game in the style of
->RE could be excellent, esp. on 64DD. Real time 3d environments,
->moveable cameras, and the whole game environment could be
->stored on the writable portion of the DD disk, so anything you
->change in the environment would stay changed for the remainder of
->the game. It would probably be closer to TR meets RE though.
At the end of the day if you get to shoot zombies I'm happy, although its
implied that to make a game with atmosphere you need to use shite loads of
space. Thats not true unless your a PC programmer then it would seem to be
the norm. PC's those fuckers have a lot to answer for shitey ares things that
they are (no I'm not typing this on one).
Hang on tho, surely the cut scenes could be done using polgon people rather
than FMV, like that bit in the first one where the shotgun/taking/crushing
ceiling/saved by the other bloke scene takes place. Yea, it could be done
just needs imagination rather than throwing resources at it.

> That being said, I will agree that Nintendo is not likely to sell. As for Sega however, they are looking for some new muscle to push Sony and Nintendo around and will take anything that Gates has to offer.

> As much as I love my N64 I am going to go with Katana/Dural/Phoenix. Sega has created quite a system. The new Hitachi SH-4 can produce 1.5 million polygons per second, all with their 64-bit treats (like anti-aliasing and mip-mapping) turned on. Better yet, Katana will not be limited to the size of carts. Katana will definitely by CD based and is said to use 1 gig special CD's.
>
> Nintendo will have great titles in the next year. Zelda ill surely kick butt, and there are many others like it. But the reality is that more powerful systems are coming down the chute. The idea of playing perfect ports of Virtua Fighter 3, Daytona 2 (already confirmed even though it hasn't been released yet), and Sega's other mega arcade titles is enough to get me hooked.
>
> As for the 64DD, it is too little too late. Nintendo should scrap the 64DD and look towards making their Nintendo 2000 machine. This way they could compete directly with the PSX2. There is no way that people are still going to be interested in the N64 when the PSX2 and Katana are in full swing. Despite Nintendo's brilliance, developers will choose the newer more powerful systems in a heartbeat.
