the book and seen the inferior product released for theaters, this

I agree with you. I saw Jaws in the theater after having read the novel and
it made both me and my friend "jump" a few times. I did not mention it as
there is probably no one who frequents movie sites that has not watched it.
And the other is very good for a TV production.

I was born in '67.  I saw Jaws when it came out and loved it so much I went

oh yeah, one of the things I found most absorbing about reading when I
was younger, I can remember James Herbert's books being a fountain of
such forbidden knowledge. My vote for Scary film though goes to a film
whose title I am not 100% sure of. I think it was called Equinox and was
a story similar to the Evil Dead film where a bunch of college students
go out in the woods looking for their professor. They all ( bar one) get
possessed by evil spirits and the only survivor winds up in hospital at
the end where as the camera pulls away from her room and then from the
hospital we get a bird's eye view of one of her friends ( still
possessed) on the way to kill her. the end.
if this film sounds familiar to anyone I'd appreciate if you wrote me as
I have been looking for this film for years and I might have the title
wrong.

this is a comment that i have to agree with.  poltergeist came out when i
was 3 or 4 years old, and somehow i watched it with my parents when i was
about 4, and it absolutely terrified the hell out of me (i had nightmares
about skeletons in bathtubs for a long, long time).  i dont know whether
its that experience that caused it or not, but i have never liked horror
films/gore.

i find the idea of ratings ridiculous to begin with, but given the system
that is in place, it is pretty astonishing that poltergeist was given a
"pg" when it came out, much less that it has retained that "pg" for the
18-someodd years since it came out.

I saw Stigmata last weekend.   I can honestly say that it was the first
movie that I've ever seen in a theater that almost made me throw up.   I
was expecting it to be scary, it wasn't really scary, it was just bloody.
It made me very queasy.  There were some parts that I liked, but for the
most part, it was just disgusting!

I live in Eastern North Carolina in an area that was recently devastated by
a flood.  My brother lost everything he had.  Many people need assistance in
putting their lives back together.

My nieces, ages 13 and 7, lost their entire collection of Disney VCR tapes.
If anybody knows where we might be able to find tapes that are no longer
produced, classics like Snow White and Cinderella, please let me know.  Most
of their belongings can be replaced but tapes out of circulation will never
be replaced unless I can find them.  These girls have lost all they have
ever known in their lives, their dolls, their clothes, their furniture, and
over 150 tapes.  We can buy them new Barbies and the such but I would like
to get them replacement tapes.

I would have to say there are a lot of movies that are scary at first
when its a new idea such as scream, halloween and urban legends. It's
usually the second time you see them you realize they're not so scary.
Same with favourite movies, the ones you can watch a million times

Never watched Desperate Measures.  This is one of those "locally filmed"
movies that you are SUPPOSED to watch and pretend is not at all bad (like
Striking Distance and Sudden Death), but have thankfully been able to avoid
it so far.

By far, the absolute worst movie I have ever seen (and I have seen more
than my share of bad ones) is Speed 2.  It was like a bad accident.  I
enjoyed the "eye candy" that was Speed, and thought that the sequel could
NOT be THIS bad and HAD to get better.  It was this bad.  It did not get
better.  Those are two hours of my life that I will NEVER get back.

Coming in second is Cops and Robbersons.  The only time I even considered
walking out of a movie theatre.  That is $15 that I will never get back
(why didn't anyone tell me that you could request a refund back then??:-)

There are other movies that are so bad, they are fun to watch.  Death Race
2000 and DefCon 5 (two cult classics) qualify here.

the problem that i have with "desperate measures" (and with "face/off", for
that matter), and that i have with the vast majority of action films, is
its inability to create its own world.  for an action film to work, since
unrealistic things occur in action films, it has to create its own world,
in which the action can take place.  one particular contrary to this that i
can think of is "payback".  unlike most action films i've ever seen,
"payback" does a spectacular job of creating what is essentially a cartoon
universe, resulting in a thoroughly entertaining film.

i've never seen "speed 2", but i thought "speed" was pretty atrocious in
and of itself.

and then of course there's always the poorly-dubbed, silly-action asian
martial arts films.  there are a few that i can think of that are great
examples of ridiculously bad films that are so bad, they are pretty damn
good.  first and foremost would have to be "prince of the sun", a movie
from about 1990 starring, actually, cynthia rothrock (an american martial
artist/actress).  the plot of the film is quite disjointed (even for an
asian martial arts film), the action is absolutely insane (more than
probably any martial art film i've seen, this movie employs the technique
of having people climb walls and poles and things of that sort), and absurd
dubbing (there is one line in this film that i will never get over: the
"master" is talking to this child who is the next, i guess, dalai
lama/prince of the sun.  he tells him about one particular technique he's
mastered: "concentrated power.  its means you have to concentrate all your
power and focus.  once you do that, you'll be able to move all objects at
will.  and change reality according to your own wishes."  dont we all wish
we could do that!)  and then there's "shaolin vs. lama", "mafia vs. ninja"
(one amusing thing in this film is when the names of two characters are
exchanged!), "shogun assassin", "the meteor killer/the killer meteors" (one
of jackie chan's 1970's movies: the two main characters are the meteor
killer, and the killer meteor - i still dont know which one is which)  you
gotta love encore's action channel - if it werent for that, i wouldnt have
ever watched lots of highly amusing martial arts films.
