Actually ties into the Mystic Knights idea. The clergy, knighthood, and
such of Medival Europe tried to appear virturous in public, but were mainly
liars, cads and scoundrels.

No, you don't. You'll laugh just as hard no matter if you saw the
first.

Actually, from what I have heard (we thought about going tonight, but ran
out of time), it is more important to be familiar with James Bond, The
Avengers, Monty Python, and the 60's in general (as well as a firm
understanding of British humour) than it is to have seen the first movie:-)
Sounds like a great movie. Can't wait for the reviews.

Imagine a Jesus christ gone the route of "the last temptation." He was
immaculately concieved (jesus) and is the "chosen one" by Qui Gon (john the
baptist, who was, incidentally, killed by the romans, who are represented by
the sith). But in this version of the bible, jesus gets pissed and goes on a
dark-side kick.

Maybe this is just wishful thinking on my part, but my theory is that
Anakin's mom maybe wasn't being completely honest when she said there was no
father. It really reminded me of when Obi Wan told Luke that Darth Vader
murdered Luke's father. Anybody else think she might have been covering
something up? Her expressions in the film indicated to me that she knew more
than she let on.

And, they have no problem cheating either........ note how Qui-gon tries to
snooker Watto into taking Republic money. As in further agreement to Gerry,
remember how Obi-Wan actually stayed hidden on the desert planet Tatoonie
for many years by the time of A New Hope.....
Hey, you realize that technically, Anakin did stay put in the cockpit of
that fighter. Qui-gon just didn't say to keep the fighter laying around.

Agreed.
Personally, I would rather see it revealed that Schmi Skywalker was
impregnated by an inebriated Yoda after a drunken night of Banta Tipping
than see them continue with the "immaculate conception" arc.
In other news, did anybody hear that DeForest Kelley died?? I just saw it
mentioned as a footnote to a "This Is True" mailing list I am on. Anybody
know if he really died? If so, when was it??

He died Friday in LA, and it's no secret. Been all over the news then.
Didn't say of what but that he'd been sick for a few months.

Subject: [MV] Movies that never have been made
Friends,
A list of favorite movies which have never been made:
1. The Iliad. This has been sadly neglected by Hollywood. I only know 2
movies which skirt the topic: Helen of Troy, very ambitious and so close to
promising but sadly mismanaged and misguided; and The Trojan Horse, with
Steve Reeves, which actually begins where the Iliad ends. My big project is
a 4 part movie:
Part 1: Paris and Helen. Starts with the whole mythology about the apple of
discord, whi is the prettiest, etc. and ends with a great gathering of Greek
kings and prince, shouting "To Troy! For Menelaus and Helen!" and the armies
embarking...
Part 2: The Iliad proper; begininng with the war and ending with Hector's
burial; full of great scenes, like Diomedes wounding Aphrodite and Ares...
Part 3: The Fall of Troy: all the post-Iliadic incidents, like the death of
Achilles, all the other happenings, the horse, the fate of Ajax,etc.... ends
with Ulysess on one side and Aeneas on the other starting their long
journeys...
Part 4: Ulysses and Aeneas: the happenings of the Oddissey and the Aeneid
told paralelly and maybe, using some poetic license, some intersection.
Culminates in Ulysess great triumph on one side and, perhaps, Agammenon's
son Orestes avenging his father on the other.
If I were a director and had the means, fortune, and imagination.
2. The 3 Musketeers (!) No movie has ever done justice to the greatest
swashbuckling book of all times; the Disney movie was appaling, the 1948
Gene Kelly had so much promise and nice spots, the 2 part comedy of the
1970s was not serious and mangled the second half of the book (as have all
versions), the others are so poor, too! The Count of Monte Cristo has been
blessed with a plethora of adapatations which are from good to great and do
their subject justice; can anyone ever do the same to the D'Artagnan saga?
3. The Foundation Trilogy: This will probably be made and surely will be
mangled. If only the Spielberg/Lucas connection were interested...
4. Rupert of Hentzau: The sequel to The Prisoner of Zenda of the 1930s was
promised and never made!
5. The Justice Society of America movie serial (!) Yes, the ultimade movie
serial was never made and will never be made unless I get $1,000,000,000 .
Then, it will be like a new version of old times: a 2 hours chapter 1 shown
the first week; 10 half hour chapters showcasing the individual JSA'ers (Dr.
Fate, Horman, Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Wonder Woman, Atom, Starman,
Superman, and Batman) and a final 2 hours finale. Each chapter would include
a capsule origin of the hero and show their supporting cast: Lois Lane,
Robin, Steve, Hawkgirl, etc. . They would go vs. the Injustice Society with
their classical villains (Fiddler, Shadow, Wizard, Luthor, etc.) and a
mysterious leader which would be unmasked in the last chapter. Ah, to
dream...!
I love the old serials, and was thrilled through the years to discover so
many (and, alas, so few) superheroes protrayed in them - Superman (2
serials) Batman (2), Captain Marvel, Spy Smasher, Captain America, Green
Hornet (2!), Zorro, the Shadow (a great discovery; do not miss the Columbia
editio), and so on. One of my earliest "creative fantsasies" consisted of
discovering a Justice Society serial. This has turned in my mature (?) years
into the fantasy of making the JSA serial, the 1st in over 40 years!
I hope I have not bored you at all! And, please, share your comments and
"fantasies" on your favorite movies never made!

Here's one that has never been made and, sadly, certainly never will be...
A.I.
For those of you not familiar with it, it was to be Stanley Kubrick's next
film after Eyes Wide Shut, and was to be his first foray into epic science
fiction since 2001. It undoubtedly would have been incredible, and it died
with him.
Also Mannequin 3. (oh, I'm just kidding for God's sake)

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Yeah, baby! "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged
Me," the swinging sequel to the surprise 1997 comedy hit about the
oversexed man of mystery opened with a groovy gross of nearly $54.7
million to blast "The Phantom Menace" out of first place, according
to industry estimates Sunday. On a huge weekend at North American
theaters, the "Star Wars" prequel did continue to pack in audiences,
bringing in $25.4 million Friday through Sunday to bring the George
Lucas film near the $300 million mark after just four weeks. But the
Force was no match for the retro silliness of Austin Powers. "Notting
Hill" collected $11.2 million for third. "Instinct" had $6.8 million
for fourth and "The Mummy" had $5.1 million for fifth.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - DeForest Kelley, whose portrayal of the
cantankerous and compassionate Dr. McCoy on the original "Star Trek"
series highlighted an acting career dating to the 1950s, has died
after a lengthy illness. He was 79. Kelley died shortly after noon
Friday, said Carol Pfannkuche, a spokeswoman for the Motion Picture
and Television Country Home and Hospital, a retirement facility in
suburban Woodland Hills. Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy was one of the
colorful crew of 23rd-century space travelers that helped make the
"Star Trek" TV series a lasting cult favorite. The program aired from
1966-69 on NBC.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - "Friends" actress Courteney Cox wed actor David
Arquette Saturday while hundreds of fans stood outside the church
hoping to catch a glimpse of the couple and their celebrity guests.
The marriage took place at Grace Cathedral, followed by a party at a
1930s speakeasy-style club where the newlyweds and 250 guests drank
Dom Perignon and dined on steak and lobster. Cox wore a white
Valentino dress. Among those who attended were "Friends" actress
Jennifer Aniston and her boyfriend, Brad Pitt; actor Richard Benjamin
and his wife, Paula Prentiss; and Paul "Pee-Wee Herman" Reubens.

1) Stranger in a Strange Land. Robert Heinlein's classic novel of a
young man raised in an alien culture and returned to Earth. I'd cast
Sean Connery as Jubal Harshaw and Leonardo DiCaprio as Valentine Michael
Smith.
2) A Confederacy of Dunces.... perhaps the funniest novel of the last 50
years. Just offhand, I don't know who could play the lead character,
Ignatius J. Reilly.... Ken Hudson Campbell, maybe ?
3) Atlas Shrugged; would have to be at least a two-parter.
4) Earth Abides; another multi-part epic.

not sure of the date, but I do know that he died sometime last week. maybe

A friend of mine suggests that since Tatooine is on the way from Crusanant
to Naboo, that perhaps Senator Palpatine had stopped over and impregnated
her, either as part of her duties as a slave or maybe he actually seduced
her. "Luke I am your father." Then Luke freaks out so bad that Darth Vader
decides not to break the rest of the news that the Emperor is his
grandfather.

My thoughts...
Good Omens by Niel Gaiman and Terry Pratchet (though it is in certain stages
depending on who you are talking to) - very funny!
Sandman - also by Gaiman - this one would be difficult because it is not
just one story arc that made the series so amazing but how they all fit
together - so this would have to be a multi part thing - or (shudder) TV
mini-series.
A book that I'm reading right now called Anubis Gates - which is really cool
so far about time travel and ancient Egypt...neat...
The Yattering and Jack by Clive Barker - a story that isn't horrific - but
about a goblin-esque creature who created havoc for Jack - very funny!!
The Dark Tower series by that Stephen King guy! Good series - especially
the second one!
