  116. ep. 4 that his dad was killed, anakin tells qui-gon he'll "stay put" in the

  320. Actually, from what I have heard (we thought about going tonight, but ran
  321. out of time), it is more important to be familiar with James Bond, The
  322. Avengers, Monty Python, and the 60's in general (as well as a firm
  323. understanding of British humour) than it is to have seen the first movie:-)

  413. Anakin's mom maybe wasn't being completely honest when she said there was no
  414. father. It really reminded me of when Obi Wan told Luke that Darth Vader
  415. murdered Luke's father. Anybody else think she might have been covering
  416. something up? Her expressions in the film indicated to me that she knew more
  417. than she let on.

  466. Hey, you realize that technically, Anakin did stay put in the cockpit of

  867. A list of favorite movies which have never been made:

  869. 1. The Iliad. This has been sadly neglected by Hollywood. I only know 2
  870. movies which skirt the topic: Helen of Troy, very ambitious and so close to
  871. promising but sadly mismanaged and misguided; and The Trojan Horse, with
  872. Steve Reeves, which actually begins where the Iliad ends. My big project is
  873. a 4 part movie:
  874.  
  875. Part 1: Paris and Helen. Starts with the whole mythology about the apple of
  876. discord, whi is the prettiest, etc. and ends with a great gathering of Greek
  877. kings and prince, shouting "To Troy! For Menelaus and Helen!" and the armies
  878. embarking...
  879.  
  880. Part 2: The Iliad proper; begininng with the war and ending with Hector's
  881. burial; full of great scenes, like Diomedes wounding Aphrodite and Ares...
  882.  
  883. Part 3: The Fall of Troy: all the post-Iliadic incidents, like the death of
  884. Achilles, all the other happenings, the horse, the fate of Ajax,etc.... ends
  885. with Ulysess on one side and Aeneas on the other starting their long
  886. journeys...
  887.  
  888. Part 4: Ulysses and Aeneas: the happenings of the Oddissey and the Aeneid
  889. told paralelly and maybe, using some poetic license, some intersection.
  890. Culminates in Ulysess great triumph on one side and, perhaps, Agammenon's
  891. son Orestes avenging his father on the other.
  892.  
  893. If I were a director and had the means, fortune,  and imagination.
  894.  
  895. 2. The 3 Musketeers (!) No movie has ever done justice to the greatest
  896. swashbuckling book of all times; the Disney movie was appaling, the 1948
  897. Gene Kelly had so much promise and nice spots, the 2 part comedy of the
  898. 1970s was not serious and mangled the second half of the book (as have all
  899. versions), the others are so poor, too! The Count of Monte Cristo has been
  900. blessed with a plethora of adapatations which are from good to great and do
  901. their subject justice; can anyone ever do the same to the D'Artagnan saga?
  902.  
  903. 3. The Foundation Trilogy: This will probably be made and surely will be
  904. mangled. If only the Spielberg/Lucas connection were interested...
  905.  
  906. 4. Rupert of Hentzau: The sequel to The Prisoner of Zenda of the 1930s was
  907. promised and never made!
  908.  
  909. 5. The Justice Society of America movie serial (!) Yes, the ultimade movie
  910. serial was never made and will never be made unless I get $1,000,000,000 .
  911. Then, it will be like a new version of old times: a 2 hours chapter 1 shown
  912. the first week; 10 half hour chapters showcasing the individual JSA'ers (Dr.
  913. Fate, Horman, Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Wonder Woman, Atom, Starman,
  914. Superman, and Batman) and a final 2 hours finale. Each chapter would include
  915. a capsule origin of the hero and show their supporting cast: Lois Lane,
  916. Robin, Steve, Hawkgirl, etc. . They would go vs. the Injustice Society with
  917. their classical villains (Fiddler, Shadow, Wizard, Luthor, etc.) and a
  918. mysterious leader which would be unmasked in the last chapter. Ah, to
  919. dream...!
  920.  
  921. I love the old serials, and was thrilled through the years to discover so
  922. many (and, alas, so few) superheroes protrayed in them - Superman (2
  923. serials) Batman (2), Captain Marvel, Spy Smasher, Captain America, Green
  924. Hornet (2!), Zorro, the Shadow (a great discovery; do not miss the Columbia
  925. editio), and so on. One of my earliest "creative fantsasies" consisted of
  926. discovering a Justice Society serial. This has turned in my mature (?) years
  927. into the fantasy of making the JSA serial, the 1st in over 40 years!
  928.  
  929. I hope I have not bored you at all! And, please, share your comments and
  930. "fantasies" on your favorite movies never made!

  1086. LOS ANGELES (AP) - Yeah, baby! "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged
  1087. Me," the swinging sequel to the surprise 1997 comedy hit about the
  1088. oversexed man of mystery opened with a groovy gross of nearly $54.7
  1089. million to blast "The Phantom Menace" out of first place, according
  1090. to industry estimates Sunday. On a huge weekend at North American
  1091. theaters, the "Star Wars" prequel did continue to pack in audiences,
  1092. bringing in $25.4 million Friday through Sunday to bring the George
  1093. Lucas film near the $300 million mark after just four weeks. But the
  1094. Force was no match for the retro silliness of Austin Powers. "Notting
  1095. Hill" collected $11.2 million for third. "Instinct" had $6.8 million
  1096. for fourth and "The Mummy" had $5.1 million for fifth.

  1103. after a lengthy illness. He was 79. Kelley died shortly after noon
  1104. Friday, said Carol Pfannkuche, a spokeswoman for the Motion Picture
  1105. and Television Country Home and Hospital, a retirement facility in
  1106. suburban Woodland Hills. Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy was one of the
  1107. colorful crew of 23rd-century space travelers that helped make the
  1108. "Star Trek" TV series a lasting cult favorite. The program aired from
  1109. 1966-69 on NBC.

  1142. 2) A Confederacy of Dunces.... perhaps the funniest novel of the last 50 
  1143. years.  Just offhand, I don't know who could play the lead character,

  1288. depending on who you are talking to) - very funny!

  1290. Sandman - also by Gaiman - this one would be difficult because it is not
  1291. just one story arc that made the series so amazing but how they all fit
  1292. together - so this would have to be a multi part thing - or (shudder) TV
  1293. mini-series.

  1296. so far about time travel and ancient Egypt...neat...
