  155. We went this weekend to see One True Thing with Meryl Streep.
  156.  
  157. I have always enjoyed her movies and her performances but this was an
  158. exception. At no time during the movie did we feel any sympathy or
  159. compassion for the characters. Thought the movie was relatively poor. The
  160. theater was fairly full and the few comments that we heard from others
  161. leaving the theater were similar to ours. Even William Hurt was not up to
  162. his normal acting. The only good thing in the movie was the daughter
  163. (forget her name).

  179. I have seen The Dear Hunter for more than five times,and still feel like
  180. it.I have seen Apocalypse Now just one time,but I think it's disgusting,and
  181. never want to see it again,though they have the same theme:antiwar.
  182. The charactors in The Deer Hunter are quite normal guys ,no heroes,but they
  183. seem to be friends of mine,they seem to be living somewhere in this world
  184. .When they are happy,I am happy,when they are sad,I'll feel bad.They are
  185. someone with flesh and blood.This movie told you a miserable story,but still
  186. let you see the hope.It is not pessimistic.
  187. But in Apocalypse Now,every one seems to be sick,seems to be unreal.I don't
  188. like the officer and also don't like soldier who killed the officer.They
  189. seem to be picked up from the lunatic asylum.I can't forget the scene of the
  190. officer being cut in half. It's a movie showed no depth,after seeing the
  191. movie,nothing but the disgusted feelings remained.It's not only
  192. pessimistic,but also not persuasive.

  204. I will agree that Apocalypse Now was much of what you attribute to it
  205. but I think that was precisely the point.  In fact that is why I
  206. appreciate it so much.  By creating such a surreal world it allowed
  207. the viewer to somehow imagine the madness of it all.  
  208.  
  209. The Deer Hunter on the other hand committed the ultimate sin in my
  210. book and that was it bored me to tears.

  223. If you have the chance to get your hands on "Walk in", a chinese movie 
  224. made in Honk Kong (if you don't mind the english subtitles), I am sure 
  225. you would love it.  It's the story of a policeman who loses the use of 
  226. his legs and borrows the body of a man in a coma by trying an old 
  227. spiritual technique called walk in.  So, he has to live the life of a 
  228. real jerk who only has enemies and three or four wives.  You can imagine 
  229. the rest!  It's a really original comedy full of action. Maybe hard to 
  230. find but...if you do find it, you won't regret it.

  267. driving the Jackie Chan/Chris Tucker action comedy to a spectacular
  268. $31 million sendoff. New Line's Brett Ratner-directed buddy picture
  269. marked an opening weekend record for the studio - topping the $25.4
  270. million 1990 launch of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." It also set a
  271. new record for any September opening, surpassing the $18.9 million
  272. debut of Paramount's "The First Wives Club" in 1996. Opening in a
  273. distant second was Universal's critically acclaimed domestic drama
  274. "One True Thing" with a studio-projected $6.6 million. Last weekend's

  294. "The Haunting of Hill House." DreamWorks is tentatively planning to

  296. name, at Christmas 1999. Jan De Bont ("Speed") will direct. The
  297. original 1963 feature, titled "The Haunting," was directed by Robert
  298. Wise and starred Julie Harris, Claire Bloom and Russ Tamblyn. The

  300. house to determine whether a ghost is inside.

  305. DreamWorks SKG, agreed with a land developer Monday on terms under
  306. which its headquarters and studio will be built on environmentally

  308. Playa Capital Co. comes just three weeks after DreamWorks threatened
  309. to pull out of the development in a dispute with the land's owners.

  338. Oh, this is a great film ... to borrow some criticspeak, it's visually
  339. arresting. I almost picked up a copy of this movie, but opted for a Doris
  340. Day/Richard Widmark movie instead.

  368. I'm curious about this movie, though it's not to my usual tastes, because
  369. it's directed by Carl Franklin, who did what I think is one of the best
  370. films of the '90s ... One False Move. See it if you haven't; it's a great
  371. mystery starring Bill Paxton and Billy Bob Thornton (also co-scripted).
