Subject: Re: [MV] The Man Who Should Know Better...
I really enjoyed The Man Who Knew too Little...I though Bill was in top form again (but I guess I am a fan of Mr. Murray)...also - being an actor myself I find it even a little bit funnier! The ads promoted it wrong - they made it look like he was a bumbling idiot - which is all wrong...check it out!

What I was impressed with, was how the movie was able to sustain the
audience's interest until the final moments. few movies are capable of
that...

Subject: [MV] I'm Back! Lots of stuff to yap about.
Hi Guys,
Glad to be back. I'm a little exhausted from the road but will try
to not bore you too much with my addled brain.
Father's Day-I frankly had no desire to see Father's Day. I get the
impression that those guys made that movie for no reason than that
they are buddies and wanted to work together.
For the psycology question, a Clint Eastwood movie comes to mind that
I cannot place my finger on. He is a New Orleans cop chasing a serial
killer. It explores his own sexual peccadillos as he struggles with
the case. Of course One flew Over the Cuckoos nest and Snake pit
come to mind.
Mimic-I thought Mimic was a big bore. It seemed a direct rip off of
several other films the most obvious being Aliens. I haven't taken
the time to count the similarities but they are there. If we haven't
discussed this before, I suggest everybody get the prior release by
the same director. Its called Chronos I think and is really cool.
That is the reason I even bothered to see Mimic.
An Actor that I think is perhaps the best working today is Robert
Duvall. His abilities transcend the typical actor working in
Hollywood. I think Jodie Foster is a helluva actress. I just don't
think she can direct.
Sam Raimi-I was one of his biggest fans with The Evil Dead movies
(Except 3) but find myself less entertained with his gimmicky camera
tricks now. They worked great in the monster genre but were simply
distracting in a western.
Starship Troopers-My interpretation of this movie was
SPOILER-SPOILER-SPOILER- At the end we find that the bugs are not
the bad guys after all. Instead we have been watching a onesided
view of a war and have not considered the other side's point of view.
The Bugs are only protecting their territory which earth has invaded.
I went to see He Got Game last week and have to say Spike Lee
continues to drive me batty. He has a wonderful eye and ability to
choose compelling subject matter but I just don't buy his writing.
Being the rascist I believe he is (Why isn't he called on the rascist
crap he and his movies spew?) I don't think he is capable of making
his characters speak in an honest manner. There were some good
moments and I can always watch Denzel Washington but cannot give this
a recommendation.
Deep Impact opens today and I think I'll check it out.
bye,
bb

I would have thought that list etiquette usually stopped ppl copying a
whole email to add a one line reply at the end, I won't repeat the
transgression but you know who I am talking about. Most email prog's come
with a great ability to cut and paste.

(cue intro music)
The Return of Movieman! I have not forgotten my obligation to all of you to=
bring you the reviews of all the current movies...it's just that there have=
been no movies worth the dough recently. This kind of creates a paradox=
and makes me look like an oxymoron as Deep Impact was definitely NOT worth=
the money either. Nope - sorry to report that summer movie mayhem will=
have to wait until the inevitable bonanza of box-office bucks that is=
Godzilla. This movie is everything you'd expect it to be. But that's the=
problem. Too many disaster movies have laid out what the formula should be=
- show everyone on earth (in most cases this just means the States - as=
that's all that really matters) really happy and enjoying life, Show mass=
confusion and histeria when news of disaster hits, show 10 minutes of=
amazing special effects disaster and then in the midst - someone somewhere=
will find some sort of solution and saves the day. When I watched Dantes=
Peak I felt the same way - "who cares about the preamble - let's move on to=
the amble already!" So this movie receives the unfortunate rating of a=
fail - it could have barely passed if the FX were at least worth watching -=
but even that was too computery! Well this review is too long already -=
so until we meet again...

Seems Godzilla is not living up to its expectations

*** 'Godzilla' still a tough sell
Movie theater chains appear to be decidedly unimpressed with
"Godzilla" and all the hype preceding the sci-fi thriller's May 18
launch. Some company executives were underwhelmed by a screening of the
film last week, and now many chains are reportedly refusing to give in
to Sony Pictures' demand that it receive an unprecedented 80% of the
first week's box office proceeds. Sony has much riding on its version of
the Japanese sci-fi classic. In addition to an estimated production
budget of $160 million, the company is reportedly spending nearly $50
million on domestic prints and advertising. Yet despite all the hype
surrounding the release of the picture - or perhaps because of it -
exhibitor reaction at an April 30 screening was mixed. See
