no posts in 11 days?
i think we need another one of Paul's Pointless Polls
;)
anyway, some news: from nme:
MOBY joined US punk band MISSION OF BURMA onstage at a
show in NEW YORK, an event which the dance star claims
completed a childhood dream.
The group performed two shows (January 12-13) at the
New York Irving Plaza, as part of a short string of
dates that will also include an appearance at the
forthcoming All Tomorrow's Parties festival in the UK
in April.
At the second night (January 13), Moby performed
guitar during an encore of 'All World Cowboy Romance'.
The dance star has been a fan of the group since his
youth, and also paid tribute to the group when he
covered their track 'That's When I Reach For My
Revolver' on his 1996 album 'Animal Rights'.
Writing on his official website, www.moby-online.com,
he compared playing with the band to when he worked
with his other heroes, New Order and David Bowie. He
wrote: "Now I've played with three of my childhood
heroes, New Order, David Bowie, and Mission of Burma.
I'm the luckiest new-wave kid on the block.
"They (Burma) were great. What an amazing band. And I
had a lovely time playing guitar with them, even if a
couple of my friends in the audience did yell 'Moby
sucks'.
"I had received a call from my manager earlier today
wherein she said 'Mission of Burma called and they
were interested in having you onstage to sing 'All
World Cowboy Romance''. I was flattered, but
confused."
Moby plans to release a new album later this year.
odd, cause i thought MOB hated Moby for changing the
lyrics to "Revolver" in the video... but whatever,
this is cool.

this should be fun...
1. what do you think Moby's next album will sound
like?
2. how do you think it will be received?
3. what if moby worked with n sync or britney or
somebody?
4. will you buy the Pork Guys album the day it comes
out? ;) or will you buy the new Moby the day it comes
out?
5. guacamole: yes or no?
6. there is no number 6.
7. top whatever albums of 2001, please.
8. do you think the best Moby is yet to come?
9. do you think Moby would ever do a straight
old-school rave album? like, maybe, a Barracuda album
or something?
10. are you sick of harry potter?
11. if you have a website, or mp3.com site or
whatever, plug it here.
12. could you live on ramen noodles?
13. do you miss when Mobility was flooded with posts?
;)
alright, there's a lucky 13 random questions. now,
answer them!
mine:
1. well, he's said it would be more "soulful" or
something... so what does this mean, Motown samples?
hmmm. i can't really imagine right now what it would
sound like. it'll probly not be what i expected.
2. it'll be interesting to see if it'll do better than
South Side. i think people like Spin magazine won't
give it as good reviews as last time, there'll be a
little bit of a backlash. i'm sure he'll definitely
come up with something catchy enough to have at least
one hit.
3. well, i guess its not that likely, cause moby seems
to like to work by himself. i probly wouldnt like it
if he did work with them tho.
4. Pork Guys: will this only be available at Yates'
website or something? i kinda doubt an album called If
You Dont Masturbate Yr An Idiot will have wide
distribution, hehe. if i can find it, and the radio
station doesnt get it, i'll definitely buy it. as for
the new Moby, probly wont get it the day it comes out.
unless the first single(s) totally reaffirm(s) my
faith in him. if i dont like it immediately i'd just
copy it from the radio station...
5. yes. i never used to like it, but we got some good
asparagus guacamole recently, and its awesome. and i
hate asparagus, which is blashpemy in my house (mom's
been obsessed with it forever, and please do not
ask...)
6. blee.
7. in rough order: of montreal, avalanches, sidecar,
weezer, radiohead, spiritualized, aphex, squarepusher,
beta band, his name is alive, circulatory system,
yesterdays new quintet, lots more i'm forgetting...
8. probly not.
9. probly not, tho it would be awesome if he ever did.
10. yes. he looks like my little brother, but dorkier.
11. i tried to register with macomega but i guess
theyre down or something. but when possible, it'll be
there. i'll let you know, if anyone cares ;) i neeeed
somewhere to post all my damn playlists...
12. yes, and sooner or later i will.
13. yeah. but i have lots of other ways to waste my
time now, so...
ROCK!

Rap Metal. Definately Rap Metal.
2. how do you think it will be received? as revolutionary.
3. what if moby worked with n sync or britney or
somebody? Am I detecting BT references? I think it would be cool. He's already done a remix of the King of Pop.
4. will you buy the Pork Guys album the day it comes
out? ;) or will you buy the new Moby the day it comes
out? Moby album yes.
5. guacamole: yes or no? Yes
6. there is no number 6. Tease
7. top whatever albums of 2001, please. I refuse to answer this question because no more top lists are needed. 2001 is gone.
8. do you think the best Moby is yet to come? I hope so.
9. do you think Moby would ever do a straight
old-school rave album? like, maybe, a Barracuda album
or something? Please no.
10. are you sick of harry potter? Not really, I ignored all the hype, so it didn't sicken me.
12. could you live on ramen noodles? God no. I would be a not happy camper.
13. do you miss when Mobility was flooded with posts?
;) Yes.

1. what do you think Moby's next album will sound like?
Probably like nothing he has done before or else it could be play mark
II
2. how do you think it will be received?
Probably very badly as all the new fans will hate it as it is not like
anything they have heard b4.
3. what if moby worked with n sync or britney or somebody?
If it is half as good as the song he produced for sophie ellis bextor it
will be a treat for the ears as that was the best song on an otherwise
dire album
4. will you buy the Pork Guys album the day it comes out? ;) or will you
buy the new Moby the day it comes out?
I will have to buy both and try to get my hands on the promo versions
and hopefully the interview disks as well
5. guacamole: yes or no?
If I knew wot it was I still would have to say no
6. there is no number 6.
Yes because 7 8 9 and it ran away
7. top whatever albums of 2001, please.
Alabama 3 (a3 in usa)la piste
8. do you think the best Moby is yet to come?
He always is gonna innovate he is way ahead of the pack when it comes to
new styles so yeah
9. do you think Moby would ever do a straightold-school rave album?
like, maybe, a Barracuda album or something?
I would love more of the side line projects like voodoo child, or
another rock album
10. are you sick of harry potter?
Yeah the lord of the rings is far better
11. if you have a website, or mp3.com site or whatever, plug it here.
No I shant
12. could you live on ramen noodles?
No the foundations would never set and the house would topple of

Probably both, I like the pork guys.

I had it on a Mac Spain menu at Mac Donalds once during the "European weeks"
action. It looked aweful, but it tasted quite good, so I guess a yes :)

Nice of you sharing that with us :)

2001 was shit musically. However there's one great album I purchased:
Alphawezen - L'apres midi d'un microphone
check http://www.mole.nl/catalogue/molecd035/molecd035_right.html for sound
samples. Especially check out track 1, 5 and 10!

Most of the news NME posts is right from the Moby Updates =
(http://www.moby.com/cms/viewalldiary.asp) at Moby.Com. Like when he was =
"attacked" by that cat, which wasn't even that newsworthy (that's what =
Moby said, anyway).
And recently, when BT's stuff got stolen, RollingStone.com took their =
info right from the BT Network main page (http://www.bt-network.org/), =
which is a fantastic BT site and even BT posts to the boards there =
sometimes, but it's not even official.
Keep that in mind when you read this stuff. And, if you want to know =
about Moby before NME does, just read the Moby Updates like they do...

As usual--critical success, mixed feelings from long-time fans, however,
unlike Play, it will NOT be a commercial success.

Both: YES.

Sometimes yes.

There is no number 6 answer.

Tricky's Blackout (I think that was the title); Bjork's Vespertine.

Dunno.

Nah, I think that phase of his musical career is over, but you will
definitely hear influences yet to come.

No.

The MOBILITY FTP, but its down right now pending a new computer and better
server software.

Yes, but not for long.

No, most of them were pointless random and non-moby related. I think we've
finally thinned out the play bandwaggoners.

he has said romantic, but i have a feeling it
will not have progressed past the simple (yet
elegant) dance music that he has produced in the
past. people who are expecting something
strikingly different, i think, are bound to be
disappointed. i just hope it's not littered with
tons and tons of needless pop star appearances.
> 2. how do you think it will be received?
the new moby fans will rave about how great it
is. the old moby fans will bitch about how it's
not old school. the moderate moby fans will buy
it and enjoy it. the moby haters will find some
excuse to hate it. critics will be much along
the lines of radiohead 'amnesiac' release, by
saying it seems too much like 'kid b', or in this
case 'overplayed'.

i would lose about as much respect as i lost for
bt. that being said, my respect for moby sinks
with every promotional stunt he is doing.

pork guys i'll pass on. the new moby i'll pick
up because i am a cd buying lunatic. and i do
like his music, if not his ethics/ambitions as of
late.
> 5. guacamole: yes or no?
no. too fattening.

this is because 'number 6' = 'spoon'

complete with pictures and everything!
> 8. do you think the best Moby is yet to come?
no. i have found nothing to top his work on
'little idiot' yet. that rarity has shown more
artistic merit and creativity in it's
metaphorical pinky than 'play' did. if he is
continuing along the same vein, i can't see it
getting any better. of course, i will be happy
to be surprised. :)

once he gets sick of being a corporate weasl.
can we say 'animal rights'? :)
> 10. are you sick of harry potter?
i love harry potter, actually. the stories are
great and the movie was fantastic. the hype i
could do without, but good is good is good.
> 11. if you have a website, or mp3.com site or

http://www.project-aristotle.com
> 12. could you live on ramen noodles?
no - there is not enough nutrients in ramen
noodles to make some survive for a very extended
period of time. of course, i couldn't do it
anyway since most of the flavors have some kind
of animal product in them, not to mention
chemicals i can barely pronounce. however,
westbrae puts out a great selection of baked, not
fried ramen noodles for those willing to venture
into the temple known as a natural foods store
that has any merit.

questions? answers. (well, opinions and guesses anyway)
>1. what do you think Moby's next album will sound like?
1: like crap. no, i'm kidding (i hope). it'll prolly be more on the song
oriented side than on the dance tracks side. there was talk of orchestra
use. that'd be interesting. don't think it happened tho, press prolly
would of gotten out about it.
>2. how do you think it will be received?
2: quite well.
>3. what if moby worked with n sync or britney or somebody?
3: if done right it could be cool. i've got some backstreet boys dubs 12"s
that really aren't bad. re-produced and re-mixed so it's mostly throbbing
groove bass lines, tight beats, and bsb samples in an almost amusing
fasion. and moby has torn up songs nicely in remixes in the past. of
course, the "what's going on?" remix doesn't bode well for the future
(we'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume it was a rush-job).
>4. will you buy the Pork Guys album the day it comes out? ;)
>or will you buy the new Moby the day it comes out?
4: pork guys - maybe, if paul doesn't send me a copy beforehand.
moby - prolly not. and i doubt i'd get a copy before-hand 'cause moby's
management hates me for whatever reason, and he doesn't seem to actively
do anything without their permission.
>5. guacamole: yes or no?
5: yes. and it's good with ranch dressing mix powder in it. really.
>6. there is no number 6.
6: bruce, a song!
>7. top whatever albums of 2001, please.
7: whatever? whatever. i dunno, i'm more 12" oriented. "bombay 2: electric
vindaloo" (c1's a great d'n'b set started) and "the faint - danse macabre"
(a2's a great house party dropper, tho a bit short) are both quite good.
there was a new freestylers album, but i dunno if it ever came out in the
states. their website has it all in realaudio tho.
>8. do you think the best Moby is yet to come?
8: prolly not, but it'd be nice if i'm wrong.
>9. do you think Moby would ever do a straight old-school rave album?
>like, maybe, a Barracuda album or something?
9: maybe. it'd be nice if he did. i wouldn't mind seeing some more lopez
or voodoo child releases.
>10. are you sick of harry potter?
10: i guess? seems more bearable than it was a year or two ago tho. even
tho it's all over theaters and merchandise and whatnot, it's not as fresh
a craze.
>11. if you have a website, or mp3.com site or whatever, plug it here.
11: www.phonicoid.com , www.oniongod.com , www.mobymusic.com
and while i'm at it, i'd like to plug chris shepherd (who i think's on
this list still?). i still listen to the ep he sent me, and it still kicks
ass.

13: no.
there it is.
