  35. most likely you've never heard of the Philistines Jr
  36. but they are an amazing band from right here in ct...
  37. they're sort of like They Might Be Giants or somebody
  38. but they do a lot of experimental synthy stuff like,
  39. say, the High Llamas or somebody... and anyway,
  40. they're part of the Tarquin Records clan (Happiest
  41. Guys in The World, Zambonis, James Kochalka Superstar
  42. etc.) and of course Moby used to be in the Pork Guys
  43. with a bunch of these guys. so anyway, i found
  44. Philistins' new lp "analog vs stereo" at wpkn
  45. yesterdya, and Moby appears on it! only for like 11
  46. seconds tho. what happens is, the last song on the
  47. album, "55 M.P.H." is like 10 minutes long, and it
  48. goes thru tracks 18-52 on the cd. 18 is the first few
  49. minutes (like, the SONG part) and the rest are
  50. "solos". they get all of their musician friends to
  51. contribute, like basically, they give them 4 bars or
  52. so of the song, and they "solo" on top of it. in the
  53. dance world, this would be called "remixing" i guess.
  54. ;) but anyway, Moby has one track, and basically what
  55. he does is turn the beat into this slow dubby techno
  56. groove, and adds scratching on top of it. sort of to
  57. emphasize that, like, he is a "techno" guy now or
  58. something. anyway, it sounds really funny in the
  59. context of the song... and oh yeah, Paul Yates, James
  60. Kochalka Superstar, Guster, members of all the Tarquin
  61. bands, and even members of the Dylan Group and Mice
  62. Parade contribute "solos" too. and there's also a song
  63. on the album called "The Ballad Of Paul Yates".

  94. last night's north jersey show @ PNC was really cool.
  95. from what i understand [by my looking outside the tent every once in a 
  96. while], there werent problems in getting into the tent to see Oakenfold [on 
  97. time], as was the case at the camden, NJ show.

  99. personally, i think carl cox did a far more superior show @ the PNC center 
  100. than at the Camden, NJ show.  loved it!!

  165. the tent situation was a total fiasco, there were twice as many people on
  166. line for the tent as in it by the time i left it (in need of water, having
  167. the choice of missing oakenfold or collapsing from deyhdration).
  168. rinocerose was especially amazing, great video show. derrick may spun a
  169. cool set, including "you make me feel" by sandra bernhard which is a
  170. peculiarity that i spin sometimes. carl cox spun a great set including
  171. some amusing teaser drops of the new jaxx single, and he was full of
  172. personality. orb was cool, tho a bit cacaphonic at times. i had to bail
  173. durring their set.
  174. water was $350 for a small bottle, vegiterian buritos were $10, but the
  175. meat was being served up the same as the beans, so i got my money back.
  176. outkast was mostly loud with too much mid-range, but were okay, i really
  177. liked their last song, "bombs over baghdad" i think it's called. moby's
  178. set was pretty cool, really great light show, especially for "the sky is
  179. broken". he played fer about an hour and a quarter, left out some things
  180. that would of done well to be in the set (like next is the e, revolver,
  181. find my baby), but oh well.

  205. moby was pretty much inaccessable after the show, maybe just 'cause that's
  206. how he is now, or maybe it had to do with the venue. didn't manage to get
  207. a word with him at any rate. we took some pics, maybe i'll put them up for
  208. viewing if they come out and we can get a working scanner together.
  209. overall, i'd have to say rinocerose was the best act, tho this show lacked
  210. things like new order and the tom tom club.
  211. oh yeah, if any of you have a recording of this show, hook me up.

  251. But if you have a warez/cracked version, the mods must be cracked also.

  282. Last week I mentioned that Best Buy had the Play DVD in their weekly
  283. ad.. well since then I went to Best Buy and I saw a poster as I walked
  284. in advertising the Area One festival.  I also noticed that all
  285. throughout the store they had signs  in various places with the Play
  286. color scheme and one sign with Moby's picture from the cover of Play.

  288. Not sure if any of that makes sense to but if you check out the weekly
  289. ad for Best Buy almost the whole thing is in the Play color scheme.
  290. You can see it on the Best Buy web site when clicking on Weekly Store
  291. Ad.  I think it's kind of strange!

  449. that all depends on if there are any moby fans in the store.  i know for a 
  450. fact that i have dibs on the stuff in my store seeing as i'm the biggest fan 
  451. there, and i'm sure that if you go in and talk to any manager, they'll let 
  452. you have the stuff when it's all over.  the promotion is gonna end a little 
  453. bit after the huge back to school time is done with, seeing as it's a back to 
  454. school promotion thing.

  466. hey, i haven't posted much lately, but i've seen several complaints about=
  467.  the tent issue at area: one.  which i'd be very pissed off if i didn't get=
  468.  to seek p.o. or cox.  anyway, i just read this on moby's site:

  473. So this is a sort of apology/explanation about the dance tent at area:one.=
  474.  I'm sorry that people have had to wait to get into the tent, and I'm sorry=
  475.  if people, after waiting, haven't been able to get in. The tent holds=
  476.  3,000 people, and we were not expecting it to be so popular in the middle=
  477.  of the day. In general the success of area:one has kind of surprised us=
  478.  all. In the future we are going to pull up the sides of the tent if it=
  479.  gets crowded and if there are people waiting to get in. but for the first=
  480.  3 shows we didn't know if we'd be allowed to do that by the local=
  481.  authorities. As far as I know we now have permission to lift the sides. So=
  482.  I'm sorry if anyone waited in line and wasn't able to see carl or oakey.=
  483.  But thank you for your patience (and your enthusiasm).
