I gave up on the Grammys when I was a teenager and watching the telecasts would make me tremble with rage. They are by far the biggest joke of all the major awards shows. Now I only watch when there's a decent performance scheduled, like Moby's. The rest I try to ignore as the meaningless self-congratulatory tripe it is.

| as a musician myself, i know that music is the
| number one priority. getting paid is second.
That's naive. If you're strumming your guitar in your bedroom in your
parents house, then, yes, it's all about the music. But, like it or not,
money keeps the music world going. Have you ever released a CD? It costs
money. A lot of money to put it all together, artwork, mastering, etc.
Forget about the Britney Spears of the world and even Moby (to some degree)
for a minute. A ton of indie bands out there are doing it by themselves,
paying for everything, promoting themselves, and not making a dime in profit
for their efforts. Best case scenario: they're making enough to have their
music pay for itself. If you put out a record and selfish kids are
downloading it for free, that's a direct blow to your record sales. The
idea of Napster as a promotional tool is great in theory. In theory. I
think if you decide to release something at some point and realize that,
unfortunately, it can never just be about the music, you may not think of
Napster in the same favorable light.
| I absolutely abhor mp3's I think it cheapens music... do you think
| we would feel the same way about moby if his music was given away free? I
take it you don't go around doing work for
| other people and not getting paid for it??
I think it cheapens music as well. I hope Napster turns into a way for
people to hear clips of songs maybe and then decide if they want to buy it
rather than a f***ing free for all download service. I can't think of
anything comparable to Napster in the rest of the art world.

Cool, I didn't know that he was going to team up with the Blue Man Group.
That performance was great. I got it all on tape, so perhaps soon I will
vid capture it and host it on my FTP, in case any of you people missed it.

Hey wasn't that cool?
the mysterious man himself Moby + the Talented mega singer Jill Scott and
who knows what the Blue Man
Group. That was a spectacular performance!! too bad moby didn't have his
usual back up band. I would've loved for Spinbad and also Drummer was his
name Scott? to be up there. but any way a damn good performance. I was
worried at first!
Well too bad Moby couldn't win his category.. fuck Baha shit.... they suck
that's not even dance music ....
another sad thing.. DEEP DISH !!! THE talented and SPECTACULAR DEEP DISH!!
didn't win in the best remixer cat - A - gory. damn Hex Hector....
well this tells Moby Kicks some ass. but I want him to "reprazent" more
elements of Dance music.

Like Tom Jones, they're a famous Las Vegas performing group, I've heard.

All in all, what an awesome thing to see! Moby getting a standing ovation.=
Such a nice thing to see. However, yes, fuck the Baha shit. What a=
joke. Whenever I hear that song I want to gouge my eyes out. Don't mind=
my frankness, I just wanted to add to the vulgarity :)

You know, i was a bit nervous myself to see moby up there onstage in front of
all those "important" people...jill scott's voice could not have been more
powerful and the blue man group added a whole new dimension to the song...i
do agree with matt in stating that i wish moby could have had a bti more
exposure during his set...if a person did not know that it's his song, they
could have easily mistaken it for a blue man group piece...
i was in awe when they gave him a standing ovation..i could help but to clap
along and just scream at the top of my lungs in admiration for the set they
did...even my parents loved the idea and the song...overall, best performance
at the grammys...
Biggest hype as expected goes to::: EMINEM AND ELTON JONH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, Moby playing bass guitar? And was it just me, or
was Jill Scott flat at the end there? Kinda made my
ears throb a little. At first I thought all the
performances were getting standing ovations, (I just
tuned in about 5 min. before Moby came on,) but then
as I watched I realized it really was for him (or at
least the performance as a whole with the Blue Man
Group and Jill Scott). It was thrilling! I had
butterflies in my stomach I was so excited to see him
get that kind of praise. I loved how the blue man
group shot that confetti out of their instruments.
And I LOVED Eminem's performance with Elton John.
(C'mon flame me!!) But it's weird hearing and seeing
so much of Moby in the media. He made a comment about
style at the Fashion Awards on the Style Network, (I
work the night shift so on my nights off I'll pretty
much watch anything on tv.), I've been at Jury Duty
and while sitting around, I noticed Moby being
interviewed by Access Hollywood on one of the tv's in
the waiting room, but sad, the tv was on mute. THEN
on the radio this morning, I heard them quote Moby as
saying that Eminem is good at what he does but he is a
misogynist, homophobe, and a racist. ouch. That
Moby, he's so SCANDALOUS!!! Anyway, when Elton John
was asked why he decided to perform with Eminem, he
said that he would rather break down walls then create
them. Is Elton John ever going to do that
collaboration with Moby? And last, who gives a shit
who won at the grammy awards, who cares!!!! It's just
another award show. People arent' THAT influenced by
them. Alright. Enough ranting now. I think this is
the most I've ever written in the 3 years I've been on
