Subject: (mobility) techno/trance/dance music - recommendations wanted!
My hometown (Fort Wayne... yawn...) now has a
dance/techno radio station and a club it's affiliated
with, so I'm able to hear more of this music, but I
still don't know who the artists are behind my
favorite tracks.
I'm looking for some great DJ compilations or
individual artists and I'm really not sure where to
start. Browsing Amazon.com led me to names like Paul
Van Dyk, Christopher Lawrence, Sasha & Digweed,
Underworld... compilations like the Dream Dance series
(a rather expensive import series),Global Underground,
and the Gatecrasher club disks. It's hard to tell much
from the 30 second sound clips though.
My favorite tracks usually have high tempo, driving
baselines, maybe some nice keyboards, usually female
vocals, especially those that have an almost ethereal
quality to them. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Any digital empire release is great. I also have an affinity to the 3
volumes of the Hacker's soundtrack, but that's just how I got my start.
I would stay away from DJ mixes, especially Global Underground, but I just
don't like DJ mix CD's, it skews the original song.
Also, the Plastic compilations aren't too bad, but that's a Nettwerk label
specific series.

Late response but get Mobystuff at low prices now. If you love Moby and
want it, have it! These things will get more rare with the passage of time
and thus more valuable. There were 500+ things on e-bay (not all our Moby)
and some stuff was cool and some common. Be careful at auction, you can get
ripped off easily. I was a "country" auction addict when I lived downstate
and auctioning is really a skill to be learned. So be careful and have fun.

Maybe it's so low because most people know that Moby is almost always more

Just a thought...

I replied to Matt on this: if you want it, bid on it and have it! We love
Moby and want his stuff so get it now at low prices. As things become more
rare over time, their value will increase. I auctioned for a long time
downstate (country auctions, outside, someone's estate or just their stuff)
and it's the same on line-who cares what the other person wants and will pay
for? Not everyone is as refined as Mobility members. Anne

I hope not. It's shit like that that keeps intelligent

I love these guys. They make me laugh harder than
anything since the Simpsons, or when Sifl & Olly was
on. If we got them to do full radio adaptations of
these, with full production, it would rival The
Firesign Theatre.

you're so bloody lucky.

As much as I hate to admit it, the review is spot on
about that!!
I have never seen anyone with more energy that Moby
(and he went on to run around in the same at Brixton
the following night.
Whilst the subject of this review, I must point out
this fact:
'As he introduces the band, prior the finale, Moby
tells us that a man dressed in a bizarre animal
costume is his "secret love child". Mmmm. Super and
furry.'
This actually refers to a 6 foot Little Idiot Moby!!!!
It was the coolest thing I have ever seen!
Thanks for your time

I can't cut and paste on this computer, but I saw at
nme.com a story about Moby wanting to collaborate w/
Sophie Ellis Bextor, former lead singer of
theaudience. Anyone heard this band? What are they
like? I heard they were like St Etienne or something.
Am I in the right direction? Course, I'm at WPKN right
now, I could just look for their stuff... but I'm
having too much fun listening to old Fall records ;)
Slates is awesome, and Stereolab stole the bassline to
"Freestyle Dumpling" from "Slates Slags Etc."... and
they stole the horns from Sun Ra... and NOBODY knows
what I'm talking bout cause that's one of S-L's rarer
songs... but anyway,
ROCK!
DJ PAUL
ps: I also found an extra promo copy of an old David
Gray album in the back so I'm taking it ;) But we
don't have the new one, I want to play Babylon on the
air....
