Even though all 3 shows were totally sold out, I was fortunate enough to go to both the Saturday & Monday shows here in San Francisco.
Moby was excellent though he played the same set, including atleast half of Play. Monday he replaced "James Bond" with "That's when I reach for my revolver" (a request) which totally revealed who was a hardcore fan (girls in tubetops looked lost during it). Also people went wild over his commercial songs (Porcelain, Find my Baby). I guess commercials help some people like songs better, maybe because they're more familiar, maybe Tiger Woods playing coffeecup gold enhances it... ok so I'm a bit bitter.
There were other requests, but they couldn't play them. Then Moby wanted to play "White Rabbit" for San Francisco, but Gretta needs to learn the bass line (she must be too hardcore for Jefferson Airplane). So he did a short acoustic version of "Me & Bobby McGee". Also he performed some heavy metal, complete with yells & calling us all "motherfuckers" (that's a quote). On Saturday though, Moby felt a little more speed metal and performed 1 minute of it.
I agree that there were a lot of drunks at the beautiful Warfield unfortunately, many of them extremely rude, spitting drinks & yelling through the whole show.
As for the guy on Monday who climbed the speakers: he not only got on stage, but mooned the crowd and, when climbing the speaker cables, made the actual speakers move around a bit 'cos they were hung from above. If he had continued, people could've been endangered by the huge speakers. Moby didn't appear to notice any of this until security got a hold of the guy roughly, though they knew the danger of what the guy was doing & were fully freaking out. Moby asked if he was ok & having a good time, the guy just mostly looked pissed & disturbed. I don't think he was all there to have fun or dance with Moby.
Greta was beyond punkrock, wiggling her tongue & throwing water bottles, the Drummer was from San Francisco (is he without a home, cause he's from everywhere), DJ Spinman was subtle but amazingly talented, and the Diva (she's from Manchester & I wonder if she used to be with the Happy Mondays) sung more than "Go go go" on "Go", I caught her singing "yeahhhh...yeahhhhh...". She interrupted the show to bring on another friend (both black) to realize her fantasy of making a Moby oreo. They proceeded to freak Moby - it was great.
Monday I got to actually go in the front which totally enhances the experience, just heightens it immensely. Moby was more involved with the audience, which some people didn't exactly make the most of (getting his attention only to not repeat what they'd said, to show him their "my friends are better than yours" shirt). The whole balcony was dancing wildly. Overall it was a fun show, better than Saturday's.
Then on "Thousand" on both nites, people tried to dance only to learn what "Thousand" is all about (the 1st time I heard it, I thought it proved Moby's sense of humor). Moby got on his keyboards, but this time he looked to me like he was being cryogenically frozen - to a nice soundtrack (with the mist & icy blue lights). He also appeared to be wearing dockers. Nice pants, indeed (I just wanted to say that). And doing the arm thing with him is intense & afterwards painful (but he has pretty buff arms for a little idiot :)
I got home drenched (from sweat + the security was spraying way too much water) & aching completely. That's it, end of my story.
love&salsa to all,

I'm writing for Dr.Killpatient who is recovering from his last mix.
He was having trouble with his email & therefore got bounced off from mobility.
I, his assistant, went with him to 2 of Moby's shows here in San Francisco (last Saturday & Monday - yesterday). He recorded both, the first being much
much better than the second (the recording, not the show).
Last thing, Radio Free Underground (irfu.com) is getting more kick-ass so go & order a free sticker.

Hi Paul,
I'm writing for Dr.Killpatient who is laying on the couch, recovering from his last mix.
He was having trouble with his email & therefore got bounced off from mobility (which hasn't been the same since more than a year ago).
I, his assistant, went with him to 2 of Moby's shows here in San Francisco (last Saturday & Monday - yesterday). He recorded both, the first being much much better than the second (the recording, not the show).
And yes "Run on" is an excellent video, though it's so charming for a pro-death view don't you think?
Last thing, Radio Free Underground is getting more kick-ass so go & order a free sticker.

Sweet Matt. If you know the dj well enough, see if he will
loan you the master DAT or MD or let you come to the station
to copy it. I've had great success getting to know on air
people at the local stations and often, if they like you
well enough, it's far enough after hours, and you bring your
own media, they will let you borrow materials or use their
production room to copy stuff. A lot of them will even give
up collectible syndicated programs with great live
recordings on them from Westwood 1 and outfits like that.
