I don't think you can describe Moby as pretentious or naff! I see what
you're saying but once we're in the position of having millions of T-shirts
printed with our names on maybe we can pass judgement. Maybe Moby baby is
just trying to fit in with the trend ;)
On this subject: Xfm (UK radio available on Xfm.co.UK) have a 'Highjack'
session to which famous bands and others (the creators of South Park were on
it once) are supposed to present songs from their favourite artists that
have influenced them.
When Moby was on it he said, "The good people at Xfm [he knows he corporate
lines, aye] have asked me to come in and play music from my favourite
artists, I will be playing music from my one favourite artist...*me*! I hope
that doesn't sound too self-indulgent but I don't think I'll be playing
anything too obvious."
He then proceeded to play all the singles from 'Go' to 'Porcelain' (well not
all). Now that struck me as a great marketing ploy and heightened his
already over-blossoming exposure and record sales. I thought it was great
though and he said he had interpreted the lyrics to 'Honey' as someone whose
husband had gone away and she was going to make love to a neighbour until
her (or the neighbour's (can't remember which)) back was broken!
Another highlight was his cover of The Clash 'Straight to Hell', but it's
not near the original. It was all moody, must have been from the 'Ambient'
era, rather than AR.
Does anyone know when 'Moby Dick' was written as I have been told that Moby
is so called as his grandfather wrote it! Or have I just been
'Knob-touched'?
I am glad Moby still plays well 'upside-down'
Peace-out
Ali

Last posting today - I promise!!!!!
Just came across a 1995 MTV review of an Irving Plaza concert where the
reviewer goes into into great detail about the closing song.
It's a little ditty called "thousand" and yes, I'm afraid he does the
keyboard thing just like he did last night.
I shouldn't be disappointed.
(But I am)

On the pretention subject: If I wore a Moby T-shirt to a Moby concert, to
me, that would be naff!

Just as a note to that, moby.org has pictures of "thousand_end.jpg" and
"thousand_beginning.jpg". Not that I hold anything against them of course.
I too feel a tad let down, still it must have been pretty moving (I've only
seen it in the picture, I couldn't make it to the concert, long story) none
the less...

Great review I love to read these! Even though the experience is much
similar wherever you see him.. reading it makes me feel like I'm there
again.
The song he played at the end was Thousand. You can get it off of the Rare
double CD compilation (it's titled Rare but it's not rare I don't think).
It's also on the UK version of his self titled Moby album (but it's called
The Story So Far).. I believe it's on a single as well (Next Is The E?
someone correct me.. or just check the discography at www.moby.org :)

Right on! I took those pictures... hope everyone enjoys them. I personally
have seen moby 4 times in the last year. Two were him headlining, 1 was a
festival show and the last was that nasty Bush ordeal. He did thousand for
his two shows but not the festival and bush show. I'm rather glad that he
didn't waste the dramatic closing song on bush fans. :) (no offense to
bush fans... i just don't think they would have cared much.)

hey why not. I think we should get Moby + the rest of
the band to do an ALL 80S tour, with full costumes and
makeup, and all 80s covers!!!!!! ok maybe not. but it
would be fun to hear Moby sing "867 5309" or
something!
or of course, he could go back to the 70s and play us
a little CONVOY!!!!!!

yeah, moby has done the christ on a keyborad thing for at least 6 years.
i saw him do it around 95 on the everything is wrong tour. i don't think
he's really changed anything about is stage show, other than changing a
couple songs and adding a few people who just stand out of his way.
it was amazing to dance like a madman to feeling so real and next is the
e, but all his new stuff is so depressing and kinda slow. good to sit and
watch, bad to try and dance.

a lurker. Somehow i got unsubbed a few weeks ago. I dunno how it happened. :(
Anyways, so who's with me @ Rolling Rock Town Fair?? Like i posted several
months ago the venue is only about 1/2 hour for me, so i'm looking forward to
meeting listess. I know it's been sold out, but if you want tickets still,
several of the local papers are selling them in their classified section. I
don't know the exact websites but the papers are The Tribune Review, and The
Pittsburgh Post Gazette. Hope this helps anyone in need.

Subject: (mobility) Introduction
Hello, I am new to this list and I thought that I would actually do what was
asked and introduce myself. I know I have already posted something before
introducing myself. This is a new one for me, Actually following
directions. Not so sure I like it, but here goes anyway.
* Name
Tim
* Age
27
* What is in your Moby collection
Play, mobysongs, some other songs on soundtracks and compilation
CD's
* Where you first heard Moby, and how much of a fan you are
I actually heard my first Moby song on the Saint Soundtrack and I
thought that is pretty cool. Then I heard "Go" and was very much pleased
with his style of music. He actually has a variety to his music. Some
techno/electronic/house artists or whatever you want to call it, their music
all sounds the same. Take Alice Deejay. Pretty much all the music on that
CD sounds exactly alike. Same beat same stuff different words. No
creativity.
* Other artists you like
Crystal Method, Rabbit in the Moon, DJ Icey, Fatboy Slim, Phish,
Pink Floyd, Chemical Brothers, Sandra Collins, Enigma, Tony Allen to name a
few
* Any other interesting information you wish to share
At this point I am going through this techno music stage where that
is about all I listen to. I am a pool player who is trying to someday go
professional. I live in Naples, Florida.
Sorry to bore you all with this.

The times I've seen Moby in the last year were a
good mix of old and new cuts, danced like a
banshee to Machete, Honey (118), Why Can't it
Stop, Bodyrock, Bring Back My Happiness, Next is
the E, Go, James Bond Theme, and chilled out to
Porcelain, Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad, Natural
Blues, Everloving, etc. His shows, regardless of
whom he was with (either as a headliner or an
opener) had a great flow of moods and never let
the momentum ebb.
