Yes, tres sad. I guess the majority of these famous types don't stumble
into the spotlight they work and work to be in it. They must believe (to
some extent) that they have something of value to contribute or else they
wouldn't leave their basements. (Don't get me wrong, all artists have to
have a healthy ego or else they would destroy everything they produced.)
So leading on, in my usual garble.....maybe it's a matter of opportunity,
the opportunities of fame where this essential ego snowballs out of control
without the old checks and balances and starts knocking out loyal fans with
its bad decisions?
And, maybe its the way we perceive them - project our own ideals onto them?
And then they sabotage these ideas of them with various antics etc and we
hear about the negative stuff because they are famous and famous people
make news. And they were always this sort of person but we hadn't realised
it yet?
I haven't been a Moby appreciatee long enough to draw any
parallels........anyone?

Not to offend but ppl, why do we care? I try to not get into what my
fav musicians believe anymore. It just clouds the music, which is why
we buy the cd's right (I hope :-)
I was so bad and especially about NIN. When I was in school, my best
friend and I did an hour presentation on NIN for a Study of Rock class
(that we weren't in but we had done a similar presentation on NIN the
year before and the teacher thought that we embodied what a good
presentation looked like). We brought tons of mags with Trent on the
cover, all of the Halos that had come out at the time, shirts, huge
posters and the Broken video collection (that we got from a bootlegger
for $25). We were so obsessed. But now, I just think Trent is a
s*e*x*y guy who makes cool music. (But I like the old stuff...but I'm
getting old and I'm trapped in a time warp! :-)
So, don't let obsession happen to you! Don't let what your fav musician
is into totally cloud your own judgement. I mean, gosh, they're just
cool ppl who make music we like, they aren't Gods (to believe I used to
think Trent was! :-)

I think that Trent has always "bitched" about hating himself. Simply, he is a
vulerable man with issues and lots and lots of abadonment issues. I think it's
what he does and in a weird way, he makes it sexy. And I can empathize with his
sense of loss (now and even before I had suffered loss of my own). He *is* a
genius but sort of an evil genius...he's still in the same mode of
loss/hate/obsession but it's something that speaks to some (like me) over and
over again in interesting ways. It can fit just about any mood too (but evil
moods and sex moods seem to work the best. :-)
I don't really like what he's doing now. I think he's matured mentally but
somehow became sort of imature in the way that he's sort of less catchy and
less intellectual/lost/obsessed/strong than he was in the Pretty Hate Machine
days. But that's how I think of it. I'm speaking for me.
Love Trent...aaahhh.

i was also obsessed with trent for a long time for many of the same
reasons...but i don't think that he's lost it...the fragile i believe is his
best album by FAR. he's evolved. that's all. and about whining, i think
you should listen to fragile more. it isn't all about whining about
himself...i think pretty hate machine was written right after he was really
hurt, and he was just beginning as a musician, which is why it is so poppy
and simplistic (not bad, just simplistic). Then Broken came out ( in my
opinion the least best of his albums) which was just an outpouring of hate
filled emotion. Probably the next step of what he was going through. He
probably sees began to see the world without whoever he lost in pretty hate
machine as a cold empty place, and was disgusted with it. in the downward
spiral, i think most of that hate got turned into himself, and he became
more introspective, and didn't like what he saw--maybe hypocrisy and the
like, and that in turn became the downward spiral. in the fragile, as i
said earlier, i think he's lost some of his cynicism (not so much with
weverything, but with some things). Songs like we're in this together and
la mer, really express a sort of beauty (sure, in a messed up trent reznor
kind of way).
phew, so in conclusion, i think he has just evolved into someone better, and
more mature and his music has followed him. He only makes music from what
he knows and more importantly, feels. What more can we ask of any musician.
If someone starts making music that they don't feel, then how are we
supposed to feel it? I don't think he's worried if someone thinks he's
whiny. He's more worried about his own opinion of himself, which from his
music is much harsher than anyone else could possibly be.
sorry about the lecture...i'll step down from my soapbox now. thank you and
good night.
Josh

I am a HUGE Pet Shop Boys fan and collector, have been since their first
single back in the mid 80's. No they have never released an "a capella"
version, if you will, of "It's A Sin". All that's been released are various
mixes, but none where it is just vocals with no music. I checked the 12"
singles I have for it and nope.
> Hey, aren't Pet Shop Boys touring? Anyone seen them yet? I'd love to.
So cute,
> so wonderful. Ah.
Actually, their brief North American tour is now finished, they are touring
in Europe now. I saw three shows, Chicago, Detroit and Toronto all in 3
days. I had never seen them live, never thought I would get the chance and
sure as hell took advantage when they came this year. Great shows.
My first "Moby" related purchase came without my knowing when I bought
PSB's CD single with Moby's Electro Mix of "Miserablism". Original song is
of course the best version but I always loved that mix, so relaxing. This
was long before I was introduced to Moby's genius, but hey. Better late
than never! :)

the downward spiral is a character. like a david bowie record its not trent
reznor the person speaking its trent reznor the actor. the fragile is his
return to writeing from trent reznor the person. [ witch is why lyricly its
more simmilar to PHM ] i belive that as mr reznor has grown older he has
become more spirtual and refllective.
but what does religion matter? to each their own. if it gets you through the

i would definately say he has his own style. i like the man, and on a level
can connect wholly to him, but i hate the fans (much is the case with
marilyn manson). what i also like about him is the fact he's not preachy.
he doesn't tell people to hate themselves (or do anything), he merely makes
music. and his music definately has the kind of power to make people move.
i think it's very sad his music is so popular though. when nin was
"underground", you didn't see 14 year old kids wearing funeral garb to
school. trent's music is generally egocentric in the purest form of the
word, so the listener has to bring their own meaning to the words. most
people don't see that, they just think "trent reznor, black clothing, break
stuff, break myself, gothitty-goth-goth." at least that seems to be the
stereotype. i try to avoid things like that like the plague (except maybe
the break stuff part).
now as for his new album, to say i don't like it would be a little rash, cuz
i haven't heard more than the single "we're in this together". i'm a little
loathe to pay $20 for it, although i'm sure i wouldn't be disappointed. he
does the kind of stuff with samplers i would do if i was a millionaire.
and to his credit, trent did work with david bowie...

* Jim Biscuit - Moby is called Jim Biscuit on a very rare punk 12" called
"Shopwell" (only 200 pressed I believe)
* Voodoo Child - VC used be known for his hard techno, but also released
an ambient album called "The End Of
Everything" in 1996
* Barracuda - In May 1991 Moby released a 12" under this name. It features
a more down-tempo and commercial dance sound of
1991.
* UHF - Moby released only one self-titled EP in 1991 under this name.
The tracks are banging techno all the way.
* Brainstorm - Also a one-time alias, Brainstorm only released one
self-titled
12" EP in April 1991. Nice dancable techno.
* Mindstorm - Brainstorm was changed into Mindstorm probably because there
already was an act on the Belgian R&S label with the
name
Brainstorm. The name Mindstorm was only used for one
European
CD single with the same tracks as the original
Brainstorm 12".
I think these were all... I hope that helped you.

a friend of mine from the front 242 list said he saw them and hung with them
about a month ago. the talk of the list was that the pet shop boys saw
242's current tour and were heavily influenced by it, being fans themselves.
so influenced as a matter of fact, that they:
1. all bought silver metallic jackets like richard from front 242
2. use cordless mics to dance and jump around the stage like 242
3. all dyed their hair red like richard from 242
4. the keyboard guy uses the roland jp-8000 like patrick from 242
5. all have mirrored sunglasses like...well...242
i didn't see them myself, but as i recall the similarities were virtually
endless, and the whole list got a kick out of it. if anyone has seen PSB
live on their current tour, check http://www.front242.com for photos and see
for yourself...
