i'm sorry about that typo. (rollingstone.com)
i don't know what happened about moby not being listed there, but go to

i'm pretty sure they have him listed.

Subject: Re: (mobility) Non Conformity? (NMR)
I think there are too many levels of comformity going all at once, no matter
what social group or class or age or gender or belief you are a part of. So
I think it's inescapable. There's the vision of the wife & 2.3 kids and the
fence and all that as being a way to comform, but who does that and sticks to
it? With the gay/lesbian population, divorce rate etc etc, not many. The
norm (and maybe the way to comform now) is something else, actually many
different choices. So either way you chose, you're gonna comform to
something. And the same goes for the example of the poor people having no
choice but to comform. I was poor all during my childhood. I was totally
non-comformist to all the rich kids who were comforming to the trends (like I
wanted to be at the time), but I comformed to the other poorer kids and their
views and preferences.
I agree that the best thing to do for yourself, and the toughest is to
believe what you believe, all the while knowing why you do whether it agrees
with anyone or not, and doubt what you doubt and admit that you don't know
tons of stuff. It's so hard to define things for yourself when all during
your formative years you get your information from other sources outside
yourself, often valuing the authority of the person telling you what they
believe and in some cases acting as an example. And it seems to me that it's
impossible to be yourself completely, humans being social animals and all.
We're always going to try to please someone other than ourselves at some
point because that, in a round about way, pleases ourselves and our egos.
I hope I made some sense and sorry for keeping the topic alive -

I don't live in NYC, but maybe this could be helpful for some of you:
My friend emailed me this bit of info:
I think Moby is spinning here in nyc on October 10 at a party called BOO!
but from what I hear the people who throw this party never organize things
well and they always get shut down or they turn people away... A 35
dollar ticket is a bit steep for me to take a chance on.

Non-conformity CAN be done, depending on what you want to
conform to or not, as the case may be. I never said blanket
conformity/non-conformity, was possible. I was referring to
a specific topic. I didn't think there was a need to be so
pedantic about it! So, if the norm was to jump off cliffs
by the time you're 30 because corporate America or the
European Union told you to, because it would benefit big
corporations and governments and fuck everyone else up,
would you conform?
I don't think so, unless you are totally brainwashed!

I don't believe in God or Gods. What I meant about Moby being a God was
just an exaggeration ( a hyperboly if you will). Since I don't believe in
God/s then It would mean in my mind that I think Moby makes me feel
absolutely powerful, and The charge I get when hearing his harmonic tunes
is sadly missed by most of the world.
One day however it is my belief he will become recognised for the Genius he
is.
Did I clear that up, oh well
Non-Conformity.
Who the fuck cares what group you hang out with, if you go down the street
wearing Tommy Shit then you don't have the same taste as me. You are still
a cool person (maybe) i don't know. It is wrong to judge but everybody
does it. EVERBODY has a first glance and makes up their mind. It is
natural. I don't really conform to one group as I see it. I like every
kind of musik, I surf, but I don't Skate, I play Rugby and I study
economics, I have surfie friends and I have Football friends. Basically
I'm a friendly guy, BUT I admit that it is impossible not to conform, as
stated (I think) in Malfunction Girls email.
Everything we do has been done, are we copying?

ok dug out my ETIW cd today.
and i was reminded again from moby's
WHAT LOVE, something i've always wondered.
Has anyone heard what his thoughts were on this
song?
Does anyone think that the beginning sorta slow
acoustic part was like a parody of all the rock bands
out at that time?
I dont know, moby's voice there first off doesnt sound
like his other songs, and then right before the chaos
of that song kicks in, he says "u know what im sayin"
when i first bought this album, like 3-4 years ago i
always imagined it was moby making fun of pearl jam for
that section of the song :)
anyone??

I was listening to Play this morning and notice a weird thing...at the
beginning of both "The Sky is Broken" and "If Things Were Perfect", there is
a funny whirring noise at the beginning of the song(s). Anyone know what
this is? Maybe Moby himself can answer that one. Also, it's kind of cool
how during "The Sky is Broken" you can hear the page being turned when he's
reading off the lyrics. Back to work now...

I always thought these were the demo type tracks he included on the cd and
that the whirring is like the drum machine he used, the microphone or the
recording equipment he used. Just my thoughts on it.

Geez kids, whatever happened to watching Melrose Place and Bev Hills 90210? At
least those shows have a sense of betrayal and hatred about them. Isn't Dawson's
Creek generally a teenage girl show? I've seen a lot about it in girls mags. Oh
well, do what cha do do what cha do.

NO, please say it ain't so?! I'm a huge PJ fan, well, at least of their
pre-no code days. Ten is like so up there w/ the greatest albums of all
time! I'd have to say, for me at least it's something like this (but in
no real order):
TEN
Little Earthquakes
End of Everything/Ambiant
Violator
Every Tool Album
Pretty Hate Machine/Purest Feeling
Morrissey (self titled!!)
I can't think of anything else. What does everyone else think? Any one
agree w/ any of those. I know there are more really quality albums but
those are a few of my top, top faves. Maybe throw some Annie Lennox in
there, some more DM, some Smiths...

Just so you know, the Armory is VERY old...has sort of a 1950's old airport
hangar feel to it. Usually that's where they have the circus when it comes
to town. I'm not sure how it will sound in there. I went to a show there
once about 5 years ago and it didn't sound great, but hopefully Underworld
will bring a kick-ass sound system with them. Unfortunately, I'll still be
in Chicago (Thanksgiving weekend) and so I'm missing Engage and also FILTER
at the 9:30 Club, which I'm pretty bummed about. I love those guys.
Interesting fact about the Armory...I think it was when Marilyn Manson
played there that one of their roadies died when he fell from some lighting
rig. Wooo...spooky.
