I am simply bothered that most of the bands I hear on
'alternative' radio are stale. They are quickselling cookiecut filler, in my
opinion. Somewhere during the last 3 years the filler became dominant andnow I
can't listen to the radio because I only hear something interesting every two
hours or so, if that.
you're right steve, i read an article the other day about how the consumption
habits of youth are changing. they don't buy bands, but rather songs - hence
the abundance of one-hit wonder groups. there's this attitude of "i already
have a (fill in band) cd, so why would i wan't another?" that's a pretty big
shift from just a few years ago. kind of sad that people aren't connecting as
much anymore.

Right on, Steve! Radio here still hasn't gotten over "Walkin' on the Sun"
or "Fly" by Sugar Ray. Perhaps what all us fed-up ex-radio listeners should
do is apply to the FCC for a broadcast license and set up a (possibly)
nationwide "alterna-alternative" (by this i mean new music that isn't
getting radio play otherwise, such as Moby, Pulp, Blur, Pilfers, LTJ, etc.)
radio station. (Before i get flamed to a nice golden brown, let me explain-
I mean this in all sincerity. Radio today sucks.) Unless someone does
this, we'll just get more Smash Mouth, Everclear, Sugar Ray, and Eve 6.
btw, i actually have very few close friends and am very quiet in person,
despite my efforts to change this.
>>Enjoy the silence.
Cool quote. I'm going to their show on Dec. 2

Most of the radio stations in the UK are awful too.
However, we had a very good 'indie' station: 'X'fm which
was started by good ole' Bob Smith and a few others to get
some decent alternative airplay. Unfortunately one can only
pick it up in the London area, where I no longer live (too
far North). My London friends tell me the station has now
been taken over by Capital, which is really bad news.
Capital is bloody awful. Why do good things always have to
come to an end!?
However, BBC radio 1 has your man John Peel, doing his Peel
sessions, Steve Lamacq, etc. so I do get to listen to some
decent radio waves, depending on the time of day.

Let me know what it's like, I've never seen them live in
person, though I've seen live shows on tv, etc. I saw
Bauhaus in Brixton Academy the weekend before last. They
was pretty damn out there! I've never seen so many goths
'dancing', especially when Dark Entries came on - there
were even a few Doc Martens in the air!

The fact is, I don't like a lot of things. Fake people, reckless drivers,
driving TESTS,
tests in general, the fact that i have to go grade 13, green peppers... the
list goes on and
on. On my homepage I used to have a death list... which was a sarcastic
look at
everything that bothers me in some way or another.
but *gasp* the truth is out! I don't like MTV! Well, I don't like much
music all that much
either (and don't get me started on much more music aka Elton John TV), but
I still watch
it if I want some mind numbing entertainment. (on a side note
much played "Hangin Tough" by New Kids on the Block on the weekened while I
was on
the phone with one of my friends and we spent almost 5 minutes laughing non
stop)
Anyway. Back on topic. Much Music I can deal with most of the time
because they actually
play MUSIC and because of the whole Canadian Content thing, they play a lot
of local bands too.
MTV, from what I've seen when I go visit my American friends, hardly ever
plays music.
Although I do remember a few years back I saw this really interesting
documentary on cults
and another on the seven deadly sins which much music NEVER would have
played.
I don't like this whole MTV culture thing that's going on. The whole, "you
have to look this
way and dress like this and listen to this to be cool" and "this" changes
moment to moment.
But then, a lot of things geared towards a younger audience (i.e. not
adults) have that
attitude. A guy I know had this whole thing against Dawson's Creek because
it
was next to brainwashing in his mind. Things like BH 90210, Melrose Place,
Full House
*urg. must think of more mind numbing dramas laced with psudo-values*
Well, you get
the picture. I think a lot of people are lazy in this generation. They
want everything pre packaged
and ready to go. No one wants to think anymore. But that's just my spin
on things.
I'm forever being told I'm too old and that I should act my age. So, can
anyone tell me
how a 17 year old gurl should be acting?
Wow... another rant by me... *ahem* I dislike MTV. And that's that. If
you like it,
right on. Whatever makes you happy. What will make me happy right now is
listening to some Tori and eating microwave popcorn, so i think i'll do
that now :)

Blah. Stereotypes suck. And they're not just in commercials.
But, c'est la vie. They I dunno... maybe I'm desenstized or
something, because I deal with them all the time. For example, at skool
many
(and i mean MANY) people think I'm pure evil. Why? Hmm... because I like
the
colour black... I had dyed black hair for over a year... I listen to "dark"
music... and
some of my former friends were really into the whole "lets make everyone
think
we're satanists" thing. My fave rumor about me was that i was a speed
freak, which i found
quite funny. i dunno. my sense of humor is pretty morbid.
I personally don't like people judging me, but it happens so
I say whatever and just let it slide. To me, the biggest f*** you is being
happy
and moving on with your life and not letting the little things get you
down.
Man I can't wait till university *sigh*

Hmm... I agree... TV isn't a place to talk to people one on one. Someone's
gotta
tell all these talkshow hosts that too... By bringing on the lowest people
they
can find they try and make their audiences feel better about themselves,
while
at the same time reinforce the stereotype of a typical north american
person. *shudder*
I heard from a thread in alt.gothic.fashion the other day that Maury did a
make over
show and he made over goffs into "normal teens". Is it me or is that just
wrong? I
view talk shows as the downfall of america. someone help us all.

degrassi is on every weekday on showcase here in southern ontario. i've
seen all the junior high
and high episoides at least 3 times a piece so i'm normally watching kids
in the hall or ER instead,
but its nice to know that they're still on. Degrassi: schools out was
horrid and be glad if
you've never seen it. BTW, I'm still pissed at showcase for replacing my
so called life with
party of five *barf* that's just wrong. I miss my daily dose of claire

Okay. This is stupid, but it's been bugging me for a few days.
Moby took some of the pictures used in the booklet for Animal Rights,
right? But isn't photography a non-vegan activity? With the use of
gelatin
in film, isn't that baaaad when it comes to veganism?
{Gelatin is made from the boiled bones, skins and tendons of
animals. } Or does he use the vegan-friendly film avalible that's
avalible?
I'm curious, cause i'm an ex vegan turned lacto-vegetarian and the idea
of spending every day in the darkroom still bothers me because i avoid
gelatin
everywhere else in my day to day life, but I really don't know what to do
about it when it
comes to photography. Photography is one of the things that i'm proud
to say that i'm damn good at, and considering i've been told i'm a natural
andi could persue it at a professional level, (ego ego ego!!!)
its not something i want to give up. Anyone know how moby got around this
mini crisis?
