I thought I'd alert everybody to the following
link(http://www.hallucinet.com/cleopatra/ravefilm.html)..Seems as if
Cleopatra Pictures(part of Cleo. Records) is or has made a documentary on
electronic music(yeah..the title of it, listed as the subject, made me horf
too)...As they put it, "a feature-length look at the burgeoning electronic
dance music scene."
Anyways it seems that our hero Moby is part of this, "Camera crews have
already shot interview and performance footage of Moby, DJ Spooky, Alec
Empire of Atari Teenage Riot, DJ Frankie Bones, Electric Skychurch and
Rabbit in the Moon. Other key figures from the techno scene who have been
interviewed include Todd Muellor, producer of Amp, MTV's landmark weekly
series of electronica videos; Tony Prince, founder of the seminal dance
magazine MixMag, and Scott Richmond, the New York promoter who organizes the
legendary Sputnik parties."
I emailed Cleo Pictures(asked if doc. would be made available to the general
public) so as soon as I hear from them..I'll let you all know :)

I've picked out the groups that I like as well :) And I agree...Experience
is much better than Jilted or Fat(if you're going back THAT far :))

Hmmm..is it a sign that the Wink mix of BBMH is playing right now?? Just
curious..do you hate Wink's remix..or Moby's treatment of 1979?
Also..has anybody heard Moby's remix of Metallica's "Until It Sleeps"? Any
good?

hello everyone
a few questions...
has anyone heard of BT? I have this single of his with Tori Amos "Blue Skies".
I wondered if his other stuff was any good...
and what about DJ Keoki? (sp?) his name keeps popping up.
let me know.
Moby stuff: The people who I took a picture of in Chicago (you know who you
are) is here...it turned out lovely. I know I have some of your addresses
somewhere, but could you e-mail me personally with that info again if you
would like a copy....thanks!

BT(Brian Transeau) is a New Age artist from Maryland, and "Superstar DJ"
Keoki did a song called "Caterpillar". Keoki is hailed as one of the best
DJ's in the world. His name sounds Japanese, but I think he's from the U.S.

I wouldn't call BT "new-age" exactly...he's more along the lines of
progressive trance. I was reading an interview with him talking about how Tori
Amos sang what is now called Blue Skies while on a bus with BT (or something)
and she was singing it freestyle to another one of his songs. She never said
the words blue and skies next to each other...in fact the whole song was
pasted together vocally and he wrote the music around it....THAt is talent...

Experience is a superb album, although somewhat crude. Jilted wasn't too
bad; many of the tracks were great on that as well. Then came Fat... ;P

To tell you the truth, I've never heard the 1979 mix. My intolerance of Josh
Wink comes from the fact that someone needs desperately to yank the 303 away
from him. :) His mix of BBMH is just like the rest of his stuff. Yes, Moby
uses the 303, but not to the point of absurdity...

BT is good stuff. Leans more on the melodic side and stresses this over
rhythm. Ima is a great CD, don't know about the new one..
>and what about DJ Keoki? (sp?) his name keeps popping up.
Keoki is a DJ with a damn big head. :) His Ego Trip CD isn't all that bad,
quite jazzy in a few parts, actually. The famous little "Magick" song is a
neat single, but the remixes surpass. It's more of the same, yet different.
Listen before you buy.

Quick note about the Chicago show; if any of you saw a kid in big cords,
Orbital shirt and a Chem Bros. cap jumping around like a frenetic child in
need of Ritalin, chances are it was me. :) I was there with my friend Matt
(substantially taller), and it was his second exposure to Moby (his only
other experience was with Oil'1 on The Saint). Needless to say, he's now a
dedicated fan. :)

Speaking *as* a layperson, I'd say it's a synth box that allows you to
program different musical patterns at varying speeds with different effects
(ie. get your hands on a 303 and you'll be better than Daft Punk or Josh
Wink in a couple of minutes)....

Agreed. does their exist a decent Winx song that does not use it?

I agree about that about Josh Wink and Daft Punk, however I like the
few Wink songs that I've heard by him, "Higher State of Consciousness", and
"Are You There?". I agree, though, that he uses the 303 a bit too much.
A question also, where did Daft Punk come from? I've heard and read
about them, but they rarely (if ever) get played on the radio and I don't
believe I've ever seen one of their videos. Like I said, a lot of people in
the media talk about them, but they don't seem that talented to me. Their
song "Da Funk" is decent, but it sounds TOO plain. I bet Moby could do some
damage with that song!
Last question, has anyone ever heard of a Soundgarden song remixed
by Moby? I heard about it, but it was a while back and I haven't heard
about it since.
Later,
D.

The Roland TB-303 bass synth. Commonly one of the most overused, yet rare
and revered synths in techo/acid house history, it's sound has often been
compared to "a fart on acid". ;P The synth has recently experienced a major
resurgence in use ever since Propellerhead's Rebirth RB-338 came out, a
program that emulates two 303s and a Roland TR-808 drum machine. Chances are
you've heard the 303 many times; the synth is the prominent part of every
remix of All That I Need Is To Be Loved that Moby has ever done. It's also
in the break of Bring Back My Happiness. As you can see, Moby uses it in
moderation, probably the best way to use the 303 as it tends to get annoying
after so long.
