  6. i need to know if any of you have a way of getting a hold of moby
  7. directly. if so, i need you to get a message through to him to get in
  8. touch with me. his over-controlling management has sent their
  9. flunkies at warner chappel to try'n shut down mobymusic.com's search
  10. resources in the name of moby, which goes against everything moby himself
  11. has publicly said regarding provision of audio materials online. it's
  12. especially rediculous since it's all streaming, not downloadable, purely
  13. promoting the material. i need to talk to moby about this and get it
  14. straightened out, because his management would prolly keep him in the
  15. dark about it all until it's too late.
  16. if all my work gets killed off by controling beurocratic bullshit it'll be
  17. the end of all this for me, and that might just finish me off for good.

  83. .hqx files first.

  150. As much as I love Moby, I don't want to give peronal data to VH1 just to be
  151. able to vote for him, sorry.
  152. By the way, to be honest, the video for Southside is pretty good, but not
  153. the best, and the collaboration with Gwen was cool, but not that impressive
  154. to be called the best..  But Moby still is my favorite male (musically
  155. speaking of course, hehe :), although Maxi Jazz from Faithless comes close
  156. too... Am I the only one who thinks Muhammad Ali is shit? And I'm not a
  157. person who only likes Faithless for the dance music, Reverence is one of
  158. their best tracks, Bring My Family Back too, but the most recent single
  159. doesn't do anything for me, pity.  Oh oh I'm drifting off topic, sorry 'bout
  160. that :)

  182. You lucky b... :)  I also have the interview cd, but had to pay $$$ for
  183. it... It seems there were not as much Play interview CDs made as interview
  184. CDs for EIW and AR.  The last two are also pretty rare nowadays by the way,
  185. but I got them both pretty cheap a couple of years ago. I also have a lot of
  186. exciting moby stuff on the way, I could tell you guys about it when I get
  187. it, but then again, who's interested...

  280. they totally re-did the whole structure of the song was amazing! moby and
  281. gwen must of spent weeks in the studio getting their harmonies to match so

  348. Tribute - What's going on" with a brand new Moby remix on it! Has anybody
  349. heard it yet or has anybody bought the CD yet? I would be very interested in
  350. some discography info :) There are as far as I know 2 versions of this CD
  351. with the Moby remix on it, a US and a European one.

  354. moment (I have a nasty eBay habit :), so I was wondering if someone could

  424. can't believe V2 just replaced the original, in all of its shimmering, rough
  425. edged, buzz saw glory, with the shiny, sexless celebrity version!!

  427. Here's a marketing idea for V2 - how about reissuing the album with the
  428. tracks in reverse. The cover shot could be Moby lying under the debris of
  429. the broken bed, the title could be 'Yalp' and - this would be the genius bit
  430. - it could come with a limited edition second album of people like Sting,
  431. Phil Collins and Elton John doing covers of their favorite tracks from
  432. 'Play'. The cover would be of every one jumping on a giant bed in the
  433. grounds of one of Elton's mansions. It could be called 'Over Play'. And
  434. then, for a very limited time it could also come with a CD of versions
  435. recorded by the female singers that Moby has tried chatting up. Obviously
  436. this would be called 'ForePlay' and would have a picture of Moby in the bed
  437. - alone. Finally there could be hip hop version called 'Play-az' and....
  438. I've got to get a new job.

  440. Seriously though, I still love Play, but it just amazes me how blatant
  441. record company rip off machines are these days. But surely the artist can
  442. say 'no' at some point. Surely someone has to say 'no' at some point. Would
  443. that be down to us, the fans - the consumers... or is this all we have to
  444. look forward to. Reissues, best of compilations, and more reissues with
  445. added tracks. Hang on a minute... a quick look at this weeks music press
  446. would suggest that 'yes' this is all we have to look forward to.

  448. So, has anyone else got any marketing suggestions for the re-re-reissue of
  449. Play? I'm sure the folk at the label are so bankrupt for ideas that we could
  450. help a little. Or are they all more interested in closing down mark's site?

  473. at 4:36, features typically Moby strings (quite raw), minor chords, hip hop
  474. break, sounds like a version of a track from "I Like to Score'... can't put

  580. recognition he deserve there is a backlash

  582. Sold out I hear you cry... What do you expect Moby to do? He is in the
  583. business to make money everyone is. As long as the songs keep coming I
  584. don't care where I hear them, it still runs a chill down my spine when I
  585. hear a Moby song in an advert or movie, am I the only one who likes to
  586. be caught unawares by his greatness? Albeit it is an advert or a movie
  587. but I have to work for a living and I cant spend all day listening to
  588. the one artiste that I would like to (I know that seems sad but that is
  589. life.  I have probably spent enough money on Moby over the last 10 years
  590. that a lot of you put together but that in it self does not make me a
  591. better fan, it does not make me a worthy fan.  I could argue all night
  592. with friends who just don't get Moby but I only do that for fun I know I
  593. am never going to convert them (for want of a better word) to just how
  594. much I enjoy listening to Moby how his music touches my soul, how
  595. hearing just the tiniest snippet of a song can brightening up my day how
  596. there are so many times I have cried and laughed to music I could go on
  597. to tell you how I played now I let it go at my grandmas funeral how at
  598. my birthday I always play thousand just because it is my night and I can
  599. ;-) and there are so many occasions where Moby's music is just
  600. integrated into my soul it just feels so natural.

  731. out!" at moby. he certainly did sell out, in-and-of the fact that he
  732. apparently owns none of his songs, and therefor doesn't seem to get much
  733. say in anything dealing with them (which pretty much fucks me over), but
  734. whatever, that's not the issue oat hand. the issue at hand is primerally
  735. mocking v2 and mct.

  792. backlash? what backlash? we're merely pointing an accusatory (middle) finger
  793. at the record labels who exploit artists, fans and anyone else who gets in
  794. the way.
  795. has moby sold out? well, his moral stand has changed. he has said he's grown
  796. up and altered his perspectives accordingly. i think he enjoys winding
  797. people up which may offer insight into why he embraced many of his earlier
  798. beliefs. 
  799. a cynical perspective would be that he got a lot of interest and notoriety
  800. from the media and public alike because of what he stood for in the early
  801. days. He made a decision to become a techno-star when all around him
  802. championed anonymity - which wound a lot of people up - and helped him to
  803. sell records. So it could be argued that he sold out back then, certainly he
  804. went against the code of the underground to become an overground, almost
  805. mainstream pop star from the release of 'Go'.
  806. However, if the call of 'sell out' is centered around his decision to allow
  807. his publishers and record label to rape the catalogue and license tracks to
  808. every morally corrupt corporate machine on the planet then the question has
  809. to be, how can any one person change their views to those extremes? did moby
  810. suffer any kind of culture shock when he shifted from one ideological
  811. hemisphere to the other? if moby has ever considered his songs to be his
  812. children - as many artists claim - then how can he sit back and watch them
  813. being abused? or is he just winding everyone up still?
  814. Personally I don't care how many records he sells. As with all artists that
  815. I admire, I like it when they become popular - it means that'll be able to
  816. record more music and put it out. Some of my favorite artists have
  817. disappeared because they never sold enough product to survive.
  818. At least Moby will be able to keep putting albums out (which might not have
  819. happened if he'd continued to record stuff like 'animal rights' or dance
  820. stuff even). 
  821. Finally... this kind of debate has always been encouraged by moby himself.
  822. criticism enables growth in a true artist.
  823. And who knows... maybe with his next album he'll turn down all requests for
  824. licensing, just to wind the corporate up. What d'ya reckon?

  988. Not very likely... I don't see Moby making another hard techno single a la
  989. Voodoo Child, and he said so himself that he won't be doing this kind of
  990. music in the near future. All Moby's musical talents have merged into one
  991. 'style' kind of like on Play where there are the guitars in Bodyrock and
  992. Southside and some dance stuff in Machete. But all is mixed now. I don't
  993. want to call myself a genre purist, but I think the next Moby album is going
  994. to be a lot like Play, no surprises, just those breakbeats with this time
  995. perhaps other samples than blues samples... I sure hope I'm wrong though..

  1029. musically. My guess is that he'll bring in the real strings, real singers
  1030. and real band, but it'll still sound like Moby in the mix.

  1061. not in it at all as far as audio goes, stricktly joe cocker and bessie

  1304. didn't like Moby anymore I wouldn't still be on this
  1305. list.  I've gotten over seeing Moby in countless
  1306. exaggerated angles (a pair of holes in his neck, etc).
  1307.  In my own gramma way I have the right to long for the
  1308. small shows, artsy/abstract videos - the good ol days.
  1309.  Even though a track well used in a really good film
  1310. has been really cool.  Anyway Moby is still Moby, and
  1311. April still feels too damn far from now :]

  1313. It's just sad that what it takes to break a genius
  1314. wide into the minds of some lemmings is not the music
  1315. alone.  That might come a little later.  First you
  1316. kinda have to hammer it into familiarity, then, to
  1317. make sure nothing fails, put a pretty face on it. 
  1318. Whatever it takes for more people to buy buy buy, even

  1320. never really liked this; it was a bit weird for

  1581. me explain my point of view:

  1584. of the memory that comes along with it (that one time you met Moby, or like
  1585. me that cool contest right here on Mobility I won the cd in etc.) Without
  1586. the memory, the CD becomes a 'damaged' item, with writing on the cover, it's
  1587. the memory and the story of how it got written on that make it cool. So why
  1588. would you buy a signed CD on eBay? Buy some fandom? I think that's sick. You
  1589. are fan or you are not a fan, you don't need material stuff to prove you are
  1590. a fan. If you want signed stuff, enter contests, go to concerts, but buying
  1591. some on eBay everybody can do...

  1852. bidding on it, but look at the discription, it comes with a "certificate of
  1853. authenticity" that is issued by some random guy, "me personally".  Unless
  1854. this guy is Moby's agent, or some official from his label what the hell is
  1855. that worth?  Nothing.  I'll type up a certificate of authenticity that a bag
  1856. of shit in fact came from Moby's own personal toilet and sell it to you for
  1857. 300 bucks, does that make it so?  I don't think so, besides you're still
  1858. buying a bag of shit.

  1873. reminded of those days when I look at my autographed cd's... but I can also
  1874. see why a fan would want to buy the framed autographed disc.  Not everyone
  1875. has a chance to meet Moby in person or get his autograph.

  1964. accepted), my hero, Weird Al Yankovich never came anywhere near to where I
  1965. was.  A poor little 10 year old boy and all he wanted to do was meet his

  2275. Personally I think that the only version that's worse than Moby's Version is
  2276. the original Dupri Mix. I especially like the London Version (the first 30
  2277. seconds really sound like the beginning of Moby's Graciosia!) and the Junior
  2278. Vasquez's Club Mix which actually turns this tune in a happy 9:34 min. vocal
  2279. dance mix with catchy bassline.
  2280.  
  2281. I think that what some people arleady suggested is true, the Moby Mix was
  2282. probably done in a hurry. This tribute CD was originally recorded on Sept
  2283. 5-7 for Artists Against AIDS. And perhaps because Moby lives so close to the
  2284. disaster area of Sept. 11 they decided to add a mix from him. But then
  2285. again, when did this CD come out? A two weeks ago? Or to be safe, let's take
  2286. the beginning of November. That would still leave Moby the whole month of
  2287. October to work on it. Hmm...
  2288.  
  2289. Or perhaps there is no excuse and Moby was among the original artists on
  2290. Sept 5-7 and just made a really crappy remix :(
  2291.  
  2292. I'm really curious what Moby's up to lately musically. He should post short
  2293. soundclips of stuff he's working on on moby-online.com or something, we
  2294. could give comments and prevent him from releasing crap :)

  2360. world is getting crazier and crazier.. I don't know if there are any other
  2361. good tracks on it, but if there are, give it a listen, the Moby mix is
  2362. pretty cool in a weird twisted techno banging dub reggae kind of way :) Nice

  2383. collection is quite extensive. The number behind the year is the total
  2384. number of releases (singles+albums+remixes for others) of that year:

  2541. plugin for winamp, try this:
  2542. Put on The brotherhood - Time's Up.mp3  and set the tempo to +60% and the
  2543. pitch to +0.08 octaves, You'll get a great jungle / 2 step track with speedy
  2544. Craig David like vocals :)  pretty cool for the Dj's among us..

  2615. through the mail today and damn, that's good stuff, one would almost
  2616. forget... So if you ever think Moby is dull, dig up some old Moby
  2617. compilation/album/single and be supprised how cool this stuff it when you
  2618. haven't heard it for a while. (My best tip would be Hymn (This is my dream))

  3133. songs not on the album are "Undersea Community" and
  3134. "Run DNA".
  3135. And yes, they're like recycled music, taking LOTS of
  3136. old stuff & gluing it back together.  Madonna let them
  3137. use the beat from "Holiday"; there's animal sounds,
  3138. old school, 50's instructional audio, real world
  3139. music, lounge, disco, rap in Japanese, kitch, even
  3140. Debbie Reynolds.  I really felt crazy for liking it at
  3141. first.  
  3142. All the tracks blend into each other.  It was perfect
  3143. to listen to when I went on summer vacation.  But it
  3144. makes me want to rollerskate.

  3179. of their DJs, Dexter, is quite possibly one of the best turntablists I've
  3180. ever seen (as an ex DMC employee I've seen a few). There is a mixed version
  3181. of the Avalanches album that Dexter did which is a million times better than
  3182. the original. It was only a promo so v. hard to get, but worth splashing out
  3183. on if you see it anywhere.
