If I'm not mistaken, they're friendly with Mad Professor. It makes sense--Neil Fraser (aka Mad Prof) is from England, not Jamaica, so they've got some proximity to him.

Turns out that the new Orbital (which from friends' talk is supposed to be AMAZING) isn't coming out domestically!! Can you believe that?! Oh well--my guess is that when underworld debuts at no. 2 on the Billboard charts--or at least in the top 10--it'll get out here. Meantime we have to buy the import...
BTW: I now officially love Play. Really. Stayed away from it a few days and put it on again and it's WONDERFUL. I really underestimated it. I have a feeling this will happen with some of you as well. It's a new thing, especially for Moby, and it's worth the time it takes to appreciate it. Really.
PS: I am now (semi) officially going to Chicago and Cleveland to see the Little Idiot DJ. Haven't hammered out details, but it looks like I'll buy a 7-day Ameripass on Greyhound ($199 for unlimited mileage) and take an overnight to Chicago, get the next one to Cleveland, and then go to NYC for a day or maybe more, if I can get the time off work. (My friend Jason is doing a radio show--webcast--and wants me to help him interview rave historian and critic Simon Reynolds, author of Generation Ecstasy/Energy Flash, a great great great book that only mentions Moby once, unfortunately...)
Moby Collection: Rare, Everything is Wrong, Animal Rights, I Like to Score, Early Underground
1st Time Hearing Moby: I heard "thats when i reach for my revolver" on the radio about 2 or 3 years ago and went out and bought animal rights. im not really sure what happened after that. i just went out and started buying every moby cd i could find.
Other artists i like: guster, sleater-kinney, jets to brazil, phish, bad religion, jimmy eat world, portishead, tricky, the propellerheads, weezer, nerfherder, the promise ring, air, tilt, ben folds five,
blah blah blah, i could go on forever. . . .
Interests: i like photography, frisbee, kicking my car because its a piece of crap, going to see live music(ive yet to see moby, had a chance last year but i missed it for uncontrolled reasons and im pissed and will tell you about it if you ask me).
>Michael, I'm really interested in hearing more about that Moby
>interview you did... what did you ask him?
> Also, do your reviews get published in anything I'd know? How can
>I get ahold of some of them?
I did the interview this past Friday, it lasted about a half hour, I didn't prepare questions (very unprofessional), but it went fine. I probably won't get around to transcribing the interview for awhile--the album isn't out for another month, and he's not touring till July or August, so that's when it'll run. I will probably do two very different pieces based on it, one for Creative Loafing in Atlanta, and another for Mpls City Pages. I'm anticipating that the ATL will be a straight Q&A and the Mpls will be a profile with quotes. They sort of have to be different, because CP is pretty strict about reprinting stuff that runs in it.
I did find out some great stuff, though. He's usually disappointed by outside remixers' work on his tracks ("I spend so much time when I do remixes, and it seems like other people just bang them out"), he's planning a Play remix album (EIW-M&R-style) for next year and will be doing a DJ tour for it (these are tentative), and I thought this was interesting: he doesn't really hang out with musicians. His friends are normal people and he likes it that way.

okely...it's been a bit since i've posted...it's mainly because i am one of those types that loves moby for his music...i don't know much about his side stuff...never been able to see him play...but i still am very glad to be able to hear all this stuff...hell...with the people i have the opportunity to talk to...i'd have never found out his new album was on the way out until i made my weekly trip through the stores to see if i can find any new music...but anyways...about my reply's....yes...i remember the sesame street songs...the two mentioned atleast...and jayson, it's called "Sesame's Treet"...the band is the Smart E's...in my personal collection it's one of my most listened to albums...i challenge everyone on here to go out and find a copy of the album to listen to...one song in particular will kick your ass...it's called "The Law"...
i've not got the run on mp3 (i forget who posted that dj's link, but thank you!!!)...admitedly it's different...i was also surprised (like i'm sure many might have been) when i first heard it coming out of my little pc speakers...but i think it's fairly spiffy...i can't wait to hear the normal version (.mp3's always seem to sound a little off to me..or maybe it's just winamp)...but i think that so far i'll have to give it a thumbs up...i don't care if Play supposedly sounds like moby just made it to make music...isn't that what people have to do sometimes...you don't want to particularly stick with one theme or try to get out a really heavy message to the world about something...sometimes it's just fun to let loose...create...and share...so i can't wait to hear the rest of what moby wanted to share with me...
reading always, posting rarely, my ear is always open
