In a message dated 98-06-20 00:37:58 EDT, you write:
<<
I just went to a wedding reception and they had the best punch they told
me it was in the Lion House recipe book it was a slushy raspberry punch
(I think) Does this sound familiar to anyone out there?? If you have the
recipe can you please share it. Or if you have any other good punch
recipes please post them. When the young Women in our ward get married I
make the punch for there receptions and I would appreciate any good
recipes. Thanks for your help.
>>
I have the Lion House Recipes book... I'll be happy to copy the punch recipe
for you. But, I'm not sure which one it is! (I haven't tried any of the punch
recipes). Here are the ones they've got... there is not one that has raspberry
anything in it.
This is what they've got listed... (the title of recipe, & the main fruit
flavors in it)
Ice Cream Apricot Nectar (apricot & vanilla ice cream)
Banana Freeze (orange, lemon, banana, apricot or pineapple)
Grenadine Freeze (grapefruit, grenadine, lemon, lemon-lime soda)
Fruit Freeze (grapefruit, mandarin orange, cherries, pineapple, lemon-lime
soda, lime
sherbet)
Three Fruit Slush (banana, lemonade, orange)
Fruit Punch with Sherbet (pineapple, grapefruit, lemon, lime, ginger ale &
lime
sherbet)
Do any of those sound familiar??? Could it be the Grenadine Freeze... could it
have been the grenadine that you tasted rather than raspberry? I'll copy any
of them you want.

I hit the send button before I was finished. Let me know if you need more
info. on any of those to be able to tell which one... and I can copy as many
as you would like.
I was also going to look in my Lion House International Recipes cookbook. I
don't know if there are any punch recipes in it. I think Jennifer mentioned
having the Christmas one... and there is a Lion House Light cookbook too.
Sorry I don't have those.
OK the International Lion House has just two punch recipes...
Watermelon Punch that has watermelon, sugar & water in it (that's all!)
Sangria (Fruit Punch) with grape & orange juice, peaches, orange & lemon
slices &
club soda (sorry, no raspberry)
Hope that helps ▄

Hi!
I just made the BBQ recipe on Thursday and mine turned soupy too. At first it
was really thick and sauce-like -- but after being in the pot for hours it
turned really thin and like you say "soupy". I was surprised, but I guess
that's how it's supposed to look. Anyway, it turned out to be DELICIOUS!!!
Hope you liked yours, too! You'll have to let me know if the crock pot way
was good.

Subject: Re: (lds-yw) 3 Punch Recipes
Well, I'm looking in the Christmas one and there is one called "Holly Berry
Slush" -- it does have raspberries in it so maybe this is the one:
2 cups sugar
3 1/2 cups water
1 10-ounce package frozen raspberries
1 cup orange juice
1 20-ounce can crushed pineapple, undrained
1/4 cup lemon juice
Red food coloring (optional)
2 12-ounce cans carbonated lemon-lime beverage
Combine sugar and water in saucepan and heat till sugar is dissolbed. Remove
from heat and stir in frozen raspberries. Add orange juice, crushed pineapple
with juice, lemon juice, and a few drops of red food coloring, if desired.
Pour into shallow pan and freeze. Remove from freezer one hour before
serving. Break up with fork till slushy. Fill punch cups two-thirds full
with slush. Pour carbonated lemon-lime beverage over slush. Makes 20 half-
cup servings.
WELL!!!! As I look further on in the book, lo and behold, there is anothe
recipe! This is most likely the one you are looking for, just check out the
title:
Raspberry Slush For a Crowd
3 packets unsweetened raspberry punch powder
4 cups sugar
4 cups warm water
1 46-ounce can pineapple juice
1 12-ounce can frozen lemonade
1 6-ounce can frozen lemon juice
3 10-ounce packages frozen raspberries
1 2-liter bottle carbonated lemon-lime beverage
In a 2-gallon container, dissolve raspberry punch mix and sugar in warm water.
Add pineapple juice, lemonade, lemon juice, and raspberries and enough water
(about 3 1/2 quarts) to make 2 gallons. Stir till blended. Pour into large
freezer containers and freeze. When ready to serve, thaw till slushy. Poour
into punch bowl or individual punch cups and add carbonated lemon-lime
beverage. Makes 75 half-cup servings.
In the Lion House Lite book it looks like there is a good wedding punch
recipe... I'll just give you that one too. Maybe one of these will work!
Imitation Pink Champagne
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 can (6 ounces) frozen orange juice concentrate
1 can (6 ounces) frozen grapefruit juice concentrate
1/3 cup grenadine syrup (check label to be sure brand containes no alcohol)
1 bottle (2 liters) ginger ale, chilled
Combine sugar and water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring until
sugar is dissolved. Cool. Pour into large (3 quart capacity) glass or
plastic container. (Do not use a metal container.) Add orange and grapefruit
juice concentrates and mix well. Chill in refrigerator. Just before serving,
stir in grenadine syrup and ginger ale. Makes 16 servings, 1/2 cup each.

This is the Punch that we have been using for the receptions we have
done this summer. The girls call it "Wedding Punch" it is very easy to
make and I use a big pot and make 4 batches at a time. The last wedding
I did I make 16 batches and it served close to 200 people. But I live
in Tucson Arizona and it was very hot out so people tend to drink more
the hotter it is.
Wedding Punch
Boil
2 cups water
2 cups sugar
take off heat and add
2 cups cold water (cold out of the tap is ok)
1 cup pineapple juice (I use canned)
3/4 cup lemon juice
(this makes a pale yellow punch you can add food coloring if you would
like two or three drops makes a pretty pink or one prod of red makes a
nice peach color)
Freeze when ready to serve break the punch up with a fork and pour 3
liters of lemon lime soda over the slush. If it appears lumpy don't
worry as it sits it becomes slushy.

OK, I just found my copy of the BBQ Roast. I'm going to try it... maybe for
Father's Day (my husband would LOVE it!)
I have a thought about how soupy it is... but since I haven't made it yet, I
may be WAY off base here (I often am ▄).
I make spareribs that slow cook 5 - 6 hours in a covered dish in the oven at
250 degrees, then I DRAIN out all the liquid (fat) that has accumulated, which
is a lot! THEN I add barbecue sauce (from a bottle). And pop it bake in the
oven just while I'm putting together the rest of the meal. It's really tender
meat that just falls off the bone. (And couldn't be simpler)
Could the accumulated fat from the meat be making it soupier than it needs to
be?
What if the meat was cooked by itself (in the oven or crockpot) & then drained
& then the BBQ sauce part of the recipe was made on the stove (and could
simmer quite a while there as long as needed to mesh flavors) and added at the
end, like during the last half hour or so after you drained the meat first?
Just ignore this if I don't know what I'm talking about ▄!
Sounds yummy. Can't wait to try!

Last year at camp we did the scout version of smore's. Instead of dealing
with graham crackers and chocolate bars, the scouts buy the packages of
Keebler cookies that are chocolate frosted on one side. Toast a marshmallow,
place between two cookies (chocolate sides together) and you have a non-messy
smore. They are really good.

Two quick questions--I asked if I could get the pattern for the PP house
and have not yet heard a thing. Is the person with the pattern available
to send me it? I'd really appreciate it.
The other question, could someone please download the Father's DAy
fudge poem again? I can't find it and I'd like to do it tonight for the
fathers in our family.
Thanks in advance for all the help, Susan in Palmdale, CA

Oh, it poured and it rained
and it rained and it poured,
I moped 'round the house
feeling lonely and bored,
'til Father came over
and gave me a nudge,
and said with a smile,
"Let's make chocolate fudge."
Then he gave me a bowl=20
that we filled to the brim,
it was fun making fudge
in the kitchen with him.
I stirred and I stirred,
but I wasn't too neat,
I got fudge on my hands,
I got fudge on my feet,
I got fudge on my shirt,
I got fudge in my hair,
I got fudge on the table
and fudge on the chair,
I got fudge in my nose,
I got fudge in my ears,
I was covered all over=20
with chocolate smears.
When the cooking was done,
Father wiped off my face,
and he frowned as he said,
"What a mess in this place!"
He was not really mad
and did not hold a gudge,
and we both ate a mountain=20
of chocolate fudge.
(Excerpted from "Rainy Rainy Saturday."=20
Reprinted by arrangement with Greenwillow=20
Books, a division of William Morrow & co., Inc.
My friend found this in a family magazine over 20 years ago.)
We bought some of the large cookies (at a discount since it was =
nonprofit and we bought so many) and individually, cellophane-wrapped =
them and put a father face (as a sticker) and then did this article on =
brown paper, tri-folded it and sealed it with a father face like on the =
cookies.
When God Made A Father by Erma Bombeck (from Reader's Digest, Sept. =
1973)
When the good Lord was creating Fathers he started with a tall frame.
And a female angel nearby said, "What kind of Father is that? If you're =
going to make children so close to the ground, why have you put Father =
up so high? He won't be able to shoot marbles without kneeling, tuck a =
child in bed without bending, or even kiss a child without a lot of =
stooping."
God smiled and said, "Yes, but if I make him child-size, whom would =
children have to look up to?"
And when God made a Father's hands, they were large and sinewy. The =
angel shook her head and said, "Large hands can't manage diaper pins, =
small buttons, rubber bands on pony tails-or even remove splinters =
caused by baseball bats."
And God smiled and said, "I know, but they're large enough to hold =
everything a small boy empties from his pockets, yet small enough to cup =
a child's face in."
Then God molded long, slim legs and broad shoulders.
"Do you realize you just made father without a lap?" the angel clucked.
God said, "A Mother needs a lap. A Father needs strong shoulders to =
pull a sled, to balance a boy on a bicycle, or to hold a sleepy head on =
the way home from the circus."
God was in the middle of creating two of the largest feet anyone had =
ever seen when the angel could contain herself no longer. "That's not =
fair. Do you honestly think those large boats are going to dig out of =
bed early in the morning when the baby cries? Or walk through a small =
birthday party without crushing at least three of the guests?"=20
God smiled and said, "They'll work. You'll see. They'll support a =
small child who wants to ride a horse to Banbury Cross or scare off mice =
at the summer cabin, or display shoes that will be a challenge to fill."
God worked throughtout the night, giving the Father few words, but a =
firm, authoritative voice; eyes that saw everything, but remained calm =
and tolerant. Finally, almost as an afterthought, he added-tears.
Then he turned to the angel and said, "Now are you satisfied that he can =
love as much as a Mother?"
And the angel said no more.
Another idea that we used in FHE, but could be used by Primary or YW is =
to make a certificate that says the following:
DADDY of the YEAR
Awarded to
(father's name)
_____________
For outstanding achievement in the fields of toy fixing, piggy back =
rides, good-night kisses, hugs, and most of all-LOVE!
Bestowed this ____day of _____19_____
