Subject: (lds-yw) Father's Day
A few years ago I saw the cutest boutenier (SP) that was given out on
Father's Day. It
was a small sugar daddy and a tootsie pop fixed together with a saying
with it. I would love to have our YW make these to give to all the
priesthood on Father's Day. If anyone has the poem that goes with this I
would really appreciate a copy. Thank's in advance!!!

Does anyone use camp song books? I know when I went to camp they gave out a
little booklet of songs... it was really nice for the little 1st years who
didn't know all the songs yet. Songs were a big part of camp -- they hold a
lot of good memories. I'm going to try and dig mine out....
But, if anyone has one handy, would you mind listing the songs??? I'd love to
have it! Maybe there is even a website with lots of camp songs. I'll have to
look...
Thanks,
Jen

Hi there!
I joined the church in the fall of 1995 and find myself the YW President

I need all the help I can get but your interview format is exactly what I
have been looking for. I would love a copy! The fax at my husbands job is

Thanks for your idea!

The wooden boxes you order from church distribution, along with manuals,
jewelry, etc. They are not cheap... about $7. if I remember correctly, but
they are nice... an oval wood box with a lid that has the torch engraved in
it.

The Starfish"
Once upon a time there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his
writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.
One day he was walking along the shore. As he looked down the beach, he saw a
human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself to think of someone
who would dance to the day. So he began to walk faster to catch up.
As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man and the young man wasn't
dancing, but instead he was reaching down to the shore, picking up something
and very gently throwing it into the ocean.
As he got closer he called out, "Good morning! What are you doing?"
The young man paused, looked up and replied, "Throwing starfish in the ocean."
"I guess I should have asked, why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?"
"The sun is up, and the tide is going out. And if I don't throw them in
they'll die."
"But, young man, don't you realize that there are miles and miles of beach,
and starfish all along it. You can't possibly make a difference!"
The young man listened politely. Then bent down, picked another starfish and
threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves and said,"It made a difference
for that one."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is something very special in each and every one of us. We have all been
gifted with the ability to make a difference. And if we can become aware of
that gift, we gain through the strength of our visions the power to shape the
future.
We must each find our starfish. And if we throw our stars wisely and well, the
world will be blessed.
Subject: Re: (lds-yw) Power of One
There is a great little book that tells the story of a man who plants trees...
he devotes his entire life... he plants so many that it actually changes the
environment in that barren, remote area of the France Alps where he lives. It
speaks of the power of the one... and how we can make a difference and that
each of us can do a work that is worthy of God.
It's too long to tell the details here... but not too long for a quick read
(less than 1/4 inch thick). I have used it before, once when I was asked by my
baby brother to talk at his mission farewell. I told the story in detail, and
then picked a quote or two from the book at the end of my telling the story...
P.38
"When I reflect that one man, armed only with his own physical and moral
resources, was able to cause this land of Canaan to spring from the wasteland,
I am convinced that... humanity is admirable. When I compute the unfailing
greatness of spirit and the tenacity of benevolence that it must have taken to
achieve this result, I am taken with an immense respect for that old and
unlearned peasant who was able to complete a work worthy of God."
This story is the author's testimony to others of the influence, of the power
one person can have in this life to make a difference in the lives of others
and in the world. THat there are no boundaries, no limitations, that no one
can foretell the vast amount of good each of us can do, if we set our hearts
to do it.
I went on to share a quote by Elder H. Burke Peterson ---
"Do you think for a moment that Heavenly Father would have sent one of His
children to the earth by accident, without the possibility of a significant
work to perform?...
You are preserved to come to the earth in this time for a special purpose. Not
just a few of you, but all of you. There are things for each of you to do that
no one else can do as well as you..."
I then went on to tie this back to my brother's mission... that he was called
to that specific mission because he had a mission to perform there that noone
else could accomplish in the same way. I said that he wouldn't be planting
trees... his seeds would be of a different kind. And like the acorns in the
story (you'll have to get the book and read it all), not all of the seeds will
take root and survive. But some would grow tall and beautiful and actually
change the environment around them.
I also brought up that not only my brother had a specific mission, but each
one of us have our missions in life, etc. & ended praying that we each would
do a work that is worthy of God.
I know you weren't specifically asking about a missionary theme... but I think
the story & quote could be used in the same way, without the references to
missionary work, to motivate each person you are hoping to reach.
The book is called The Man Who Planted Trees by Jean Giono. I came across it
by accident (?) after praying fervantly for help with this talk for my
brother. When I saw it, I KNEW it was the answer to my prayers.
Hope this helps ▄
Much love, Stacey
