OK, it's Mr.T here..... I'm in for the Western Canadian Tour, and would be
more than happy to help out.... not run it but I can put together a ton of
routes that are KLR worthy - plus I don't mind giving write ups and giving
difficulty ratings of the trails around here...Central to Western British
Columbia has well in excess of a couple thousand kilometres of pure KLR
pleasure...so there is no shortage to keep a good group busy for a good five
days... Now I have seen numerous mentions of riding in Banff Lake Louise and
Canmore area... I lived there some time back - and if you are familiar with
the Canadian National Parks System there is no where to ride up that way...
Most trails start in the Kootneys and go westward, and if we make it a central
location i.e.. Kelowna then we have a large city and the facilities it
supplies (camping, food, parts) and it is a great location to start in any
direction from at the beginning of each day...that is if we want to meet a
central base each night... so I know who 'Face' is ;^) , but we need the guy
that 'Loves it when a plan comes together' -- Murdoch you out there.... we can
start planning now and maybe make for mid next year - Canada Day (July 1st)
maybe ? .... BA 'out'....

Andy,
Having worked in the UK a bit, would definitely agree with Vik and Kurt, you
may want to go for the 45L version (nuff space for 2 helmets)... a GIVI
would also be good if you ride to work so that you can carry it off with you
into the office to avoid it being nicked or pryed into...

GIVI. M&P does 'em and most other dealers too.
OTOH, I use the super cheapo Nonfango one. 30 ltrs. Fits one helmet. Also
comes with its own fitting bracket. 40 quid at M'cycle City. I like it,
but I don't really need to lug around loads of stuff.
I also got the Oxford tank bag that is supposedly curved specially for
sloping tanks. Supposedly, because I can't see the difference from any
other tank bag out there.
Cheers,
Yus

Nope... The MR T I'm talking about played a character called "BJ Barrackus".
There was also 'Face", "Murdoch", and George Peppard's character "Hannible".
The name of the old show was called "The A Team", and they used to save the
day and blow shit up on a continual basis. The funny thing about it though
was that for all the explosions, bombings, automatic weapons, etc.. no one
ever got hurt.

I would think that this would increase the stresses in the sprocket,
especially intensively around the new holes, or around the existing hole in
the sprocket, which could result in stress cracks. The sprocket isn't
subject to extreme torques, but the torque it receives is pulsed, and I have
seen camshaft sprockets crack before where they bolt onto the camshaft.
Bottom line, I wouldn't bother unless you plan on blueprinting everything
else on the motor at the same time, and even then I wonder what performance
would be gained. Also, if the cams and sprockets are a little out when
blueprinting, I'd be suspecting the cam chain, as there is a lot more
potential for imprecision there. Just a thought.

120???? Here in Phoenix last week we had a guy stopped for 143mph on a city
street. It was the highest speed ever clocked by radar in the state.
$1,000 and up to 30 days in jail. He also agreed to get rid of the bike.
It was his first ticket and he WAS a limo driver.
CrazyDave (not the one with a 143mph KLR650)

Juan-
I asked this same question when I purchased my KLR this summer. The
majority of responses stated best success with using kerosene or Simple
Green.
My experience showed that the kerosene was necessary to get the really
stubborn chain lube and grime off. The full strength Simple Green was fine
for normal mud and dirt but didn't really do much better than regular soap
and water.

In a message on 13 Sept 99, Matt wrote that he was looking for the
cheapest lockable store-bought hard bag possible.
The cheapest way I have found is to use Pelican Cases (World's Toughest
Watertight Equipment Cases) with Dave "Jake" Jakeman's mounting
brackets. The whole set up can be had for less than $500.00. Jake has
been using these on his own KLR for a few years and has never had a
problem with them. You can contact him at Sagebrush Machine Shop,
Milford, UT (435) 387-5575. Jake is an unlimited wealth of knowledge
on the KLR, motorcycle and camping equipment. Some of you might
recognize his name from the articles he has written in the DSN
newsletter. If you go to www.dualsport.org and read the article
on highway pegs for the KLR 650 in the archives, there is a picture of
Jake with the Pelican Cases mounted on his KLR.
Jake loves to talk about his KLR and will spend as much time as needed
to answer any questions you might have.
I am ordering two sets of his mounting brackets and he said that if we
could get more people to order at this time, he would be able to give a
break on the price. He has found the cheapest place to buy the Pelican
Cases. He has some great KLR Hints, Tips and Recommendations that he
is willing to share.

I've heard people talk about these as replacements to the (rather
weak) stock hand guards. I also remember that they can be a pain
in the butt to get on around the brake master cylinder. Moose makes
aluminum hand guards with plastic spoilers. Has anyone tried these?
Are they any easier/harder to mount? Do they do as good/better/worse
job of keeping stuff off your hands and keeping your hands out of the
wind. I mostly use my KLR for commuting and occasionally some light duty
fire roads. Any help is appreciated
