That's the *other* rumor out there, except they would be putting the TL1000
engine in the Gran Canyon. It is the rumor that makes the least amount of
sense since the Ducati engine used in the GC is really a pretty good mill.
Cagiva's bigger problem is just trying to get a dealer network established.
While we are on the topic of rumors, there is the new Suzuki DR400 which is
almost a certainty.

Thanks to all that replied it seems there is a wide variance of oil use
all the way from little to none to 16oz....1k so at this point it seems
there is no reason to get my undies in a knot just the same I am a bit
disappointed with the amount of oil my bike is using I don't think a new
bike should be using any oil at the 5k mark oh well....thanks again.

This year we went more hardcore, even allowing two-strokes because the
trails were tougher. Sorry, no BMW on this ride. Our poster-boy Helge
Pedersen rode an XR650L this time. He attempted to make it as heavy as his
F-650 but he only had 40 lbs of camera gear. He would have needed another
60 lbs to even get close to the F-650.

That was great. But, reading that story bums me out because as vast and
forested as Massachusetts is, there's NOWHERE to ride (legally). Still a
great read, tho'.

You have to use the Velcro of the large front vents to fold the
flaps open and Velcro in place, which makes pretty large scoops
there. Also, you have to make sure that the back vent is open.
I don't zip the main zipper all the way up the collar in summer
either. As for the collar, my neck is size 18, and my XXL fits
just fine. Its snug, but it has to be, or else it would flap
around at highway speeds. This jacket can be warm around town
when stopped at stoplights, but on the highway it's just fine for
me in the high 90's.

1. List disappointing - you don't pay us, take what you can get and be
appreciative of others' efforts. Some times you can ask a question that no
one has an answer to. This isn't some magical realm here. Yea, Gino, Kurt,
Fred, Jeff, etc.. seem to have answers to pretty much everything, but it is
clear to me they do not devote 100% of their lives to the list. I plan to
have a talk with them in the future about their lack of dedication. ;)
2. Off-road helmets - buy the Arai VX Pro! Sooo comfy, and, well it looks
really bitchin', even in plain white. I have run my KLR up to 100 mph
indicated without any noticeable lift, but, I have an 18.5-inch neck, so
your results may vary for you pencil-necks out there! The peak is
adjustable.
3. Do not subscribe to MCN. I have gone through numerous rounds with their
subscription department since May and I still have not received an issue. I
finally gave up. Hopefully they will not screw up my subscription refund.
4. How the heck do you mount a Chase Harper 1150 tank bag (non-magnetic) on
the KLR? The sucker is huge! I bought it at the MAW clearance thing, so I
can't return it. I only found two posts about the 1150, one guy who had
been using it for quite some time. I thought that it was a highly
recommended bag for the KLR, I may have been hallucinating again. If anyone
wants to buy a brand-new in the bag 1150,. let me know.

Scott,
On my 11,000 mile trip north I used very little oil. I changed the oil at
4000 and then 8500 miles of the trip. Both times the window was full. I
didn't measure the oil that was in the oil drain pan, but needless to say
I didn't have to top off at anytime during the oil change intervals. BTW,
I started the trip with 9,000+ miles on the engine.

i generally don't need to add any oil between 3000 mi changes. however,
one three-day trip at highway speeds (or, at least between 55 and 75 on
average) of about 1900 mi caused about 1/2 quart oil loss.

My helmet has a "peak" on it, and I use it on highways all the time,
with about the same speed you do. No problems with it. On the other hand,
when I was riding in a canyon and looked up, ... well, you guessed right,
it's hard on the neck. ... It's your call, Andy. I think, it doesn't
matter what do you want to use, as long as you are aware of the limitations.
Question to the List: does anybody know what the "PSB Test" checkmark means
on a helmet? and how does that compare to DOT, Snell95 and other
requirements. Thank you!
Cheers,
