He probably just got dusted by someone on a Ninja 750, then realized he
could have had one for $500-$1000 less than the VFR.

I'd like to extend my thanks to those on the list who responded to my query
regarding brush guards for my KLR600. It just so happens that I was just
leafing through my Chaparral catalog, and there are actually brush guards
MADE for that bike (Acerbis).
Thanks again.

Thanks for the reminder that even at our worst, we never sink to these
depths on this list... As for replying to flames from another list...,
well, I got tired of responding to the flames, so I dropped a lot of
those lists...

My experience says that switching to syn oil after
extended use of conventionals tends to lend itself
to higher than usual oil burn. Also, I've found that
syns used in engines used to convs causes oil pan
gaskets to go away (probably other gaskets as well).

How do I respond, since I have a VFR and a KLR?.... I also have a Yamaha and used
to have a BMW and have concluded that all of these companies are capable of making
quality products and I am more worried about finding time to ride them (other than
back and forth to work, well lately I have been able to ride the KLR to Lowes a
lot) than worrying about which is best. I think both of these guys should log out
and ride!

For the lister inquiring "bout the use of SJ oils in motorcycles:
Motorcycle Consumer News did an article on the negative
effects of using SJ in bikes. But only the lower weight multi-
grades. At the time, the higher grades still contained the
zinc/phosphorous packages...Since then though, the higher
grades are now dropping the additives that bikes need.
Hence, Mobil 1 "tri-syn". Back issues of MCN are available
at www.mcnews.com (I don't work for them, just a MC
consumer). Darrel, A12 "avenger"

Hey guys I'm new to the list. I have a 1984 KLR 600 that I put handguards on
about a month ago. I looked at the Acerbis and the Maier. I bought the Maier
Universal XC Pro Handguards (www.maier-mfg.com) and I like them. They
mounted really easily I only had to trim a bit of plastic off them where the
brake line comes off the master cylinder. They look just like the acerbis
ones and the white color matches the white plastic on my bike perfectly.
They seem very strong and there is no way you would break a lever if it fell
over as they do not flex at all ! They provide pretty good wind protection
although I'm thinking of adding the spoilers for them for even more
protection. They only cost me $40 Canadian so that's about $10 American
(just joking) (their probably about $30 American)

Will KLR's run in the year 2000? I hear they may have a problem adjusting
to a four digit year. I hope my gas tank doesn't explode on New Year's
day. With all the other Y2K disasters pending, I hope Kawasaki was on
their toes with this one.

You only had to go once a night?! You must be very organized! When I
get done I am thinking about having a gathering for a ride at my house.
It will be titled "Come See Why Mac Didn't Ride This Year". The 45L
Givi top case works great on trips to the lumber yard or the carryout,
both important parts of any remodeling project!

A1 = 1984 kickstart-only model.
B1 = 1985 (and up) had electric start and better alternator.
B2 1986 up to B9 1994 had colour variations and a different ignition
advance spec.
