I've been using them since last summer and am on my second rear, the rear
seems to be good for about 4000 miles for my riding style. The tires are
definately a compromise on the street as regards handling. The reasons I
like them have to do with the 6-ply construction with 4-ply sidewalls, in
several baja trips I have not had a sidewall puncture. They also have good
rim protection molded in. Because of the stiff sidewalls I have had no
problem running 15 lbs front and 18 rear pressure with out rim locks when
riding off pavement. Another reason is price, a rear costs me $53.00 mounted
and balanced from my local shop when I take the wheel in off the bike. Front
(I use a 3.25) costs $31.00. This tire is not for someone who runs mostly on
pavement but for my usage I am very pleased. For an opposing view I know
that Alex expressed dissatisfaction with these tires for his Alaska trip.

No, no, no... Modify the KLR to accept two carburators - then run a
scottoiler from each. This would eliminate splicing the vacuum line.

Now, why didn't I think of that??? Maybe because the carburators are on
back order and I have the Scottoilers in stock.... ;<\

No doubt here that their reality IS what you see on the big screen huh?
It's the same thing I deal with when someone sees me on my KLR and says
something to the effect of: "You're gonna kill yourself on that THING"
or
"Gee, I sure hope you don't go off road with the THING"
Uh, No. I just bought it to look cool on the highway!
and it's not a THING it's a bike.

Dan the Man,
Best of the Best on your adventure. It is a good
time of life to be doing what you are. Hotter than ell though in Mex
right now.
I had the pleasure of meeting a BMW rider who had
just finished a three month, 12,000 mi, solo tour of Mexico. He had left
credit card info with a trusty shop who sent him a tire at one point,
other than that he just camped before dark, and had no problems.
If you go through Puerto Vallarta there is one bar
downtown run by an american named Mike Schaeffer.....tell him I said
howdy. The only Gringo Cantina Patron around I'm told.
Perhaps you could get us some trip reports....???
Good Luck....... Toby Lampson

Let's not forget that the gentleman who called DualStar wasn't even a

growing each day. I appreciate people spreading the word, there are a lot of
riders out there who haven't heard of us yet.
Peace to all,

Subject: (klr650) hard case saddle bag for KLR-650
Hello!
I'm planning to do some touring with my 99 KLR-650, and I'll need some hard
case saddle bags. I heard that GIVI doesn't make racks for my bike and the
rest of the manufacturers are a little too pricey for me. (Honestly I just
got my car crashed and almost all my money is gone now) I'm also thinking
about some home-made hard saddle bags, but my big concern is that the 3 (or
4) bolts I can use for mounting the rack is pretty much ON ONE STRAIGHT LINE
instead of a nice stable triangle. Does anybody have a suggestion how to do
this, what to make a hard saddle bag from, how to fix it in a way that if
get over-excited and fall, it won't bend inward. I believe that home-made
rack & hard saddle bag is not necessary a bad solution.
I'm new on this list and I realize that this topic must have been around for
about a thousand times, but I just can't deal with 1200+ items on the
archive. If you can point me in the right direction, that would be much
appreciated. If you don't wish to bother the list with your answer, then
e-mail me directly to szlanyi@novachem.com. I'm in Calgary, btw.
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
istvan

You, my friend, are a pontificating windbag with a propensity towards
