That would really be the shits if your rounds went off in the plastic boxes
while you were out on the trail on your KLR. Remember to pack your
explosives on the left side of the bike away from the exhaust I guess.
OTOH, exploding rounds should probably not be carried in the cooler luggage
either...

I use outlook express (bundled with Win'98) and it has a "reply to author"

replys/posts to automatically go to the list every time. That would only
get me in trouble and Kurt would be forced to kick me off =^).

Congratulations and to answer you question... yes. Actually, there is only
one way. The straps are designed so that the top door of the lid opens away
from you. Now that you have the front and rear orientation, fasten the rear
straps first by feeding the two long straps, which are mounted in the middle
of the bag, under the front of the rack - beside the seat - as far towards
the back as they will go. Take care to go above the turn signal wire so as
to not put ant pressure on it. The two ends will almost reach the back
(underside) if the rack. Connect the other ends and cinch tight. Once this
is done, the other two sets of fasteners (set cock-eyed near the front)
attach to the "grab-handle" parts at the front of the rack.

Arne,
I had my 15T with me, but decided to try the 16T off-road a little. If I
was going to be doing a couple of days or even one solid day of off-road, I
definitely would prefer the 14T. I was just
showing that just because someone has the 16T on his bike, it shouldn`t stop
him/her from doing a little light exploring. I didn`t experience any clutch
slippage and always had plenty of
torque ( surprised me) but keep in mind that I only weigh 153lbs
but I had a set of panniers and around 20lbs. of gear in them.

Bruce,
I drove for two days in hard rain without any problems, but my wife`s
F650 was having fits. She had two problems. One was that water was seeping
through the filler neck flange and blocking the vent orifice. We put tape
over it and it cleared up until we were riding in heavier rain with standing
water on the interstate. This time it was the vent line. I would put a rag
over the open end and blow from the tank side and I was catching water in
the rag. I re-routed her vent line to terminate higher on the bike and put
the end behind her frame. After that, no more problems.
The reason I relate the situation with her bike is that after the trip
and seeing similar complaints from this List, I looked to see where my vent
line terminated, and was surprised to find that the previous owner ( or
someone else) had virtually done the same thing with my bike. My vent line
has been raised and moved.
From appearances, it looks better protected and apparently works as I have
done a lot of riding in the rain with no problems.
Of course it could have no effect at all.

Bill,
It`s not happening from the tank side
( if the vent is the problem) but at the drain end of the vent line.
There is a light vacuum here as air is drawn in to replace the
consumed fuel. If water is indeed being drawn or blocking this end, the
engine will starve for fuel, due to the lock.

The input shaft is the one with the clutch on it.

Dan,
I put a pair of 20MM rocket cans on my wife`s F650. These are much
lighter than the 50MM boxes people are used to seeing. They are a little
shorter, but longer than Touratechs. They weigh about 3lbs. a piece more
than Touratecs. Solid, super strong and definitely waterproof. The best
thing was the price, $12 apiece from our local Army-surplus store.

>Gino
I agree with Gino here, in principal. I personally don`t have a problem with
the KLR`s vibration characteristics, except for the resultant mirror blur,
which is what pushed me to find a cure, although I must admit it was the
challenge, more than anything else. I myself refuse to accept the vibration,
IF there is a practical remedy . I tried everything, including the Honda
mirrors, weights and filling my handlebars, with no satisfaction. In my
experience, the mirror problem was not only an irritant, but dangerous. I do
a lot of riding at night and it`s very hard to judge traffic and distance
with blurry mirrors. Also, when I would ride with others and leading, I was
never able to see their hand signals or any movements on the bike. Another
factor is that vibration is always detrimental with eventual work hardening
or fatiguing of metal and parts. I know this is not a big factor on most
motorcycles, but is doesn`t help. Plus, I`ve ridden enough bikes over the
years to know that the KLR does have more problem with vibration than a lot
of other singles, especially based on the complaints of the List. I`ll put
it this way: my trip to and from Moab, despite the rain, was one of the most
pleasant and less fatiguing than my previous trips, before I got rid of the
vibration. Vibration, just like wind buffeting and wind noise, is very
fatiguing on a long trip. Also, I bet I won`t have as much of a problem with
fasteners coming loose either.
Keeping that in mind, don`t believe that the F650 is without vibration.
Unless my wife`s 99` F650 is the exception, it has a good deal of it also,
just different. Most of the F650`s vibration is felt in the foot-pegs and
seat. To be honest, I`d rather have it in the handlebars.
If the vibration isn`t a problem, that`s great. But if someone IS
sufficiently bothered by it that it ruins their enjoyment of the bike or
numbs their hands, as many complain of, then a solution is worth working
toward, especially since the KLR has so much more to offer. One less
complaint of the bike just makes it that much more desirable to others, and
that much more endearing to those of us that already own one.
Climbing off the soapbox.
